Pretty okay brunch spot in Greenpoint. The interior is beautiful and drenched in sunlight. Service was a bit lackluster but fast enough that I had no real complaints. I was feeling healthy and decided on the harvest grain bowl, but I sadly forgot to request no cheese and they sure do dump it on. It was good but I was looking forward to tasting the cinnamon maple dressing that came on it and I didn't get a hint of either of those flavors. Maybe the cheese drowned it out. I think I'd rather come here for dinner instead of brunch honestly! But not a bad choice for a date or with friends, but it was pretty loud at brunch time on a Sunday. read more

Came here for a birthday brunch with the spouse. PACKED!!! .... but she made reservations :D. Very active, very energetic, but never felt forgotten by the staff. They were just as attentive and helpful as ever. I went with buttermilk pancakes and the breakfast burrito. Superb. That sausage is the star of the plate. Potatoes were also really crisp and seasoned well. All in all a great birthday meal! I intend to make my way back if I am in the greenpoint area. We had just finished up at vessel floats which put us in a calm, positive mood looking for a nice brunch to start our rainy Sunday on Jan 28th 2024. Per the recommendation of the staff at VF they told us we had to try Sereneco. Wow, that was a mistake. Our experience at sereneco was akin to a meme of Brooklyn. Pretentious, poor service where they seemed to treat you as if you were lucky to dine with them. The space was nearly empty at 9:30 AM when we arrived. They asked us if we had a reservation. We said no, and the hostess made this noise with her lips akin to sucking air quickly with through a straw as she informed us that SO MANY PEOPLE would arrive within the hour. Bet. They offered the bar as an option, my wife has had multiple knee surgeries and high tops are uncomfortable. Despite my wife expressing this, the hostess just stared at her then recommended the chefs bar (still a hightop). We took it because we were hungry--not because we wanted to. We then proceeded to order the mildly overpriced food and drink spending nearly $80 on a pretty simple avocado toast (more like guacamole toast as the scallion was far to pronounced and the very small side arugula salad was far too salty and peppery. The bloody mary was tasty and simple but not worth $14 and while the mixed berry bowl was delicious it wasn't $12 delicious. Maybe 8 at best. We had to ask for our check twice because the waitress was busy chatting it up with the manager (normally wouldn't care) but when your meal + tip was $82 bucks you expect a better overall experience. It felt like a $50 to $60 experience as i've had better experiences at a cheap diner. Overall would not recommend and will not be back. I had a great experience at Sereneco! My partner and I ordered two small plates (octopus and whipped ricotta) and then shared the braised ribs and a side of polenta. Everything was SO YUMMY!! My only complaint is that the octopus plate was too small for the price... it was one tentacle, so not worth it in my opinion. The whipped ricotta was perfection, and the polenta tasted like a parmesan cloud. Finally, the braised ribs were incredible and well worth the price as they came with garlic mash, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. Cocktails were also really yummy - we had the mezcal negroni and the Greenpoint cocktail. As far as the ambiance, the tables are close, so it gets loud and hard to hear your date. It does help that the ceilings are high, which preserves the open and airy vibe. I would definitely return, and I felt this was one of the best new restaurants I've tried in my neighborhood of Greenpoint so far this year. read more

Service was excellent and attentive, regardless of whether you were sitting inside or outside. We sat outside. Good drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. Nice restaurant with great service and good food. The steak was perfectly cooked medium raw and flavorful with the salsa verde. The only thing they need to focus on is providing fresh lettuce on their ceaser salad. I'll be back to try more things in their menu. read more

Very high ambitions, very low on execution. Prices way too high for the portions, though the food was decent. And most importantly, while service was quite good, I overheard staff talking about the owners, and they are constantly in fear of getting fired, though they did a great job. Meanwhile, the owner is sitting at the bar on his laptop doing nothing. Full disclosure, I work in the industry, so I pay attention to the way staff operate and are treated. It's time to start treating restaurant workers properly, and when ownership doesn't, may they serve and clear the tables themselves, cook and clean the kitchen, etc.. read more

My experience with Sereneco was very disappointing. I made a reservation on a Saturday morning, however, we had to wait for over 30 minutes (with the reservation!! Unbelievable). Let's say that is OK even though should not be acceptable.... once we were seated, there was another 30-minute wait till our server brought water and took our orders. We saw other people arrived after us getting helped before us, which was unacceptable. I waived at our server a few times, but he just looked at us and did not come to take our orders. The ambiance is nice, but the service is not great. Their food was just OK which was another huge disappointment to us. I ordered their breakfast burrito, and it wasn't good at all. Been here several times. Great vibe. Solid menu. Good value. The food never disappoints. We've tried the salmon, chicken, scallops & burger. All excellent. We also love the appetizers, especially the ratatouille, the whipped ricotta & the crispy brussels sprouts. If you have 2.5 hours to kill and two good friends to catch up with then this could be a good ambiance. For me, this will only be a last resort. We arrived and the floor was not quite full. Ordered promptly two burgers and a cauliflower steak (a piece of cauliflower with seasoning). Food took nearly 2 hours to arrive. Our server was kind and it was clear that the kitchen was out of order. We were brought two complimentary appetizers which was a nice gesture but for a $24 burger, you would expect that they could produce a decent product in under 2 hours. The food was decent but very comparable to the countless other "New American" chic restaurants popping up all over. Due to the kitchen not being able to function properly, I would not recommend this place. The server we had was great and the ambiance was welcoming but overall the experience was diminished due to the nagging feeling that it was insane our food was taking so long. read more

10/10. This is a must try- we're so glad this gem of a place just opened in Greenpoint! The interior is incredibly well done with a soft and upscale yet humble ambiance, fitting for date night, a work dinner, or a casual dinner and drinks with friends. The veal meatballs were amazing in a delicious romesco sauce and topped with parmigiano reggiano. For the main, we both had the Arctic Char- I've never had it cooked so perfectly before. It was melt-in-your-mouth smooth and buttery, while the perfectly seared skin added a light crunch to the flaky char. Served over a bed of greens and beans, we both noted that it felt like we had a farmers market on our plate. For dessert, the creme fraiche ice cream was phenomenal. All in all a superb dining experience and a great addition to our neighborhood. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be back soon! Great music too :) read more

RACE TRIGGER WARNING: Let me start off by saying that the food was phenomenal not to mention I am a neighbor of this restaurant and was very excited to go for Thanksgiving. I'm giving Sereneco 1 star because of the service we received . While half of our party was met with phenomenal service over the Thanksgiving holiday, the other half of our table which coincidentally only consisted of minorities was made to wait over 30 minutes for each course to come out. It was incredibly uncomfortable because every person at our table felt the awkward tension of a group of POC watching a group of white blonde women eat their meals. I do not believe that there was some racist vendetta the restaurant had towards the second half of the table... that being said in real time it felt the way it looked. It was incredibly uncomfortable for both sides of the table. The prefix was $75 with standard priced cocktails. We ordered several drinks and ordered bottles of wine. We were there to spend money. The tales of how this restaurant handles seating and service is not of my interest, the point is we were a group with a reservation. We paid good money and were met with an awful dining experience. The few servers that did bring us our drinks could barely garner a smile when speaking to the second half of the table which really planted a seed of prejudice considering the other end of the table received glowing service. When the two black members of our party brought this to the attention of management we were offered no restitution on the matter. It was very much so swept under the rug naturally leading the minorities in our group to feel like all of a sudden we were the issue here. The owner reached out and spoke with a member of our party who left a review asking him to take it down and I cannot stand for this injustice. We absolutely paid and tipped gratuitously and as a member of this neighborhood, I will not be silenced after a holiday that had a huge cloud over it because the POC sat and watched a table of white blonde women (who are our friends and all felt equally the same about this matter) receive different service then the opposite end of the table. The owner was young and pretentious; yes Billy, I see you. Upon walking into Sereneco, we weren't greeted with so much as a smile. The restaurant was not full. During the time of service for our entree the table next to our party received their food first as we watched half of our party eating.... That table came in after us. The service was deplorable here. The food was absolutely incredible. The owner is disgraceful. In conclusion, minorities receiving poor service in fine dining is nothing out of the ordinary. I'm making this post because I cannot stomach going to one more dinner where the minorities in our group are made to feel less then. When we left Sereneco, that is how we felt. It was a subject that consumed the rest of the evening and when I heard today that the owner asked our friend to remove his post I just about lost it. Billy, you get one star and no, I will not be removing this review nor will I be returning. This is the impression we left with and I will not be silenced on the matter. For the sake of the chef who prepared such an appetizing meal, do better. As opposed to offering some defense it's my hope that you can see that customers of yours who came in on a holiday left feeling terrible.
