I live in the same block as Ammazzacaffè and have been hearing about it more and more so decided to check it out when my cousin was visiting town. We came on a Sunday night for dinner and they had two jazz musicians playing in the corner. Super cool vibe, nice interior, and good service. I got the Pesce dish and it was really good. I was debating on getting the chicken parmageddon which is their Sunday night specialty but will probably try it next time. I will say, the jazz music got a little bit loud at times, so they either need to turn it down a little bit or you can ask to be seated in the back. They've also got a really cute outdoor patio in the back that I wanna check out next time.

Ammazzacaffe is truly one of the better Italian restaurants and a hidden gem. My take? To preface, I'm not a big fan of Torrisi (overhyped and too many flavors being mixed), Misi went down the Carbone route and has gone downhill in the past 1-2 years, and Rezdora was really delicious, but they skimp on portions. L'artusi also in my opinion is decent, but doesn't have the wow factor to make me come back. I also tend to lean more toward authentic Italian tastes with less salt and el dente pasta (Alfredo also doesn't exist in Italy...) So, really, Ammazzacafe executed well in regard to portions and being generous. Their sauce with pastas was well seasoned, flavorful, and their pasta perfectly el dente with quality pasta. So far for Italian food, I recommend Don Angie, a Pasta Eater, Piccolo Cucina, a Pasta Bar, Rezdora, Forma Pasta, and Ammazzacaffe. Definitely will return to Ammazzacaffe - there's also a deli/coffee shop/bodega near Frost Street as their sister establishment in East Williamsburg by the way!

AMMAZZACAFFÈ -- A Sophisticated, Brooklyn-Rooted Dining Experience Mocktails that impress, pasta that nearly soars, and service that truly anchors the night. After leaving a deeply refreshing Christian gathering with Public Worship, my friends and I wanted somewhere that matched our uplifted mood without overwhelming it. AMMAZZACAFFÈ delivered a balanced blend of atmosphere, intention, and flavor. Ambiance The restaurant greets you with low, intimate lighting -- a deliberate design choice that creates a warm, enveloping dining room. It's the kind of space that naturally encourages conversation: a post-show decompression, a date night, or a laid-back professional meetup. The aesthetic lands somewhere between rustic and refined, with a quiet hum that makes the space feel lived-in rather than staged. Mocktails & Beverage Craft -- 9.5/10 The mocktail program is surprisingly thoughtful for a restaurant whose reputation leans heavily on pasta. * Three Designated Drinker: 10/10 (with club soda) Adding club soda opened the drink beautifully -- brightening the profile and giving it an almost aperitif-like balance. * Stormy D: 9/10 Clean, well-constructed, and layered without being too sweet. This is a rare case where the mocktails stand toe-to-toe with craft cocktails in terms of composition. Pasta Program -- A Study in Potential (Overall 8/10) AMMAZZACAFFÈ clearly takes pride in its house-made pasta, and flavors consistently showed depth and intention. Texture, however, fluctuated. * Garganelli -- 8/10 Rich, satisfying sauce; noodle texture skewed firmer than ideal. * Reginette -- 8/10 The standout pasta of the night. Sauce was deeply flavorful and perfectly clung to the ridges; al dente in the best way. * Spaghetti -- 8/10 Balanced, familiar comfort made more exciting with added spice. * Agnolotti -- 8/10 Beautifully conceptualized dish, though the pasta edges leaned a bit too stiff. The through-line: the flavor work is excellent. Execution on noodle texture slightly varied, though still very enjoyable. Appetizers -- Creative but Texturally Polarizing * Calamari -- 7/10 Presented in a way I've never seen -- flat, with squid ink and garlic. More intriguing than craveable, but memorable. * Oysters -- 6/10 Flavor was clean and briny, but the texture leaned heavily slimy. A touch of char or firmer finish would've provided welcome contrast. Service -- 10/10 Josh and Nora were the quiet heroes of the evening. Attentive without hovering, warm without performative enthusiasm -- the kind of service that subtly shapes a great dining experience. Final Verdict: 4.5 Stars AMMAZZACAFFÈ is a restaurant with a clear point of view: intimate ambiance, confident flavors, and a beverage program that genuinely impresses. The pasta shines brightest, even with minor texture inconsistencies, and the service seals the deal. We'll absolutely be returning -- especially for the mocktails and pastas.

Thankfully was able to get a walk-in seat at the bar on a Saturday night. It got quite crowded just after we had arrived, so we were lucky. However, the back area is much quieter, so definitely try to get a reservation in advance. The food was great and we were blown away by the pancetta / pork belly appetizer. Wish we had more! The chicken entree was cooked so well, and was super juicy even though it was chicken breast. We thought the vongole special would have linguine or some sort of pasta, but it just came with clams, so we'll have to go back to try the pastas. The toast that came with it was burnt, but the host was receptive to the feedback and brought us fresh bread. Since we sat at the bar, the bartenders were busy both taking food orders from the people at the counter but also drinks for the whole restaurant. Drinks looked good, and it was impressive how many they made in such a short period of time.

I had a wonderful time at this unique restaurant. Originally my friends and I were in the area for a different spot and we changed our mind last minute to come into this place. I definitely do not regret it! The first thing I noticed was the sign allowing pups which I absolutely loved. The place looked very quaint but classy at the same time. The aesthetic was not overwhelming which I enjoyed because it made it cozy for family and friends to get together and talk! The bathrooms were very clean and the staff was very professional and friendly. We sat in the back area which had a chello and trumpet player, totally amazing! I definitely felt transported back to Italy immediately. The menu was great, classic items and we were informed the pasta was made in-house which made our anticipation grow! Once the food came we were all very happy, perfect portions and the ingredients were not overwhelming. We had a salad for appetizer (mozzarella was fresh) and we all got different dishes to get a feel of the entire menu. Afterwards we enjoyed a tiramisu and some coffee and we honestly had no complaints at all about this place. The only heads up I will give is that they have a long table (where we sat) where we were pretty close to the party next to us. If you would like to avoid that I suggest calling before. A PLUS everything else!

Came to eat here with a friend when I was visiting in broken. We went around lunch time and we were seated immediately. The aesthetic was dark brown wooden and cozy. A nice amount of sunlight came through the front window. Although patrons are seated close together, I never felt boxed in. My friend and I talk a lot and it's quite rare to get us to shut up...we devoured that food. it was so delicious! At some point the waitress apologized for the wait, and I didn't even realize bc we were having such a great time. Definitely have to come back for dinner and see what the ambiance is like then. Can't wait!

Came with my date on a Sunday evening, particularly for the live jazz from 6:30-9pm. It was nice to have but we were sat upfront directly next to it so it did become very loud at times. I would recommend asking to be sat in the back if you're looking for a more intimate vibe like I was. Very pretty food presentation. I'm not a huge Italian cuisine fan but I did appreciate the quality. I had to add a couple of items to spruce up our pasta in order to really enjoy it (asked for red pepper flakes and drizzled olive oil from the bread appetizer). I would rate this place 3 stars in actuality, but our two servers (they switched halfway through) were very hospitable and kind.

I've heard AMAZING things + on the Michelin guide so I had very high expectations. The vibe of the restaurant was great as was the service and pace of the meal. The food was underwhelming though. The salad was fine, a little over dressed. The agnolotti was over balsamic-ed and lost a lot of the other flavors I was looking forward to. Overall still a good establishment but less than expected.

A chill spot with a great ambiance -- the outdoor patio on a sunny day was really lovely, plus there's plenty of seating. Their lunch special was great since you got to try a little of everything and get a smaller portion of pasta. The Rigatoni Marsala was creamy and solid, the Tartare was bright and citrusy. Desserts were alright IMO, I've had better Tiramisu and Brownie was heated but not gooey.

Really really good food. Chill vibes nothing too fancy. We walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and wanted maybe 15 min. Ordered meatballs for an app and two pasta dishes. Everything was great. Meatballs were a bit pricy for an app but still good. Interesting drink presentation. Would definitely return and would love to check out the patio

Came here with a res on a Thursday and it was pretty busy! Here's what we got: Do Not Pass Go (cocktail) - loooveeed this drink and so many of the other drinks looked amazing! Don't think you can go wrong with the drinks here Sunchoke - probably my favorite thing we got here! Love the sunchoke with the apple and cheese, the pesto was the cherry on top. This is definitely a must get! Agnolotti - what I was most excited about when coming here but also was the biggest let down of the whole meal. While there was a lot of potential for this dish with the balsamic, pesto, and truffle - this whole dish was just dry. There was not enough sauce and any sauce there was was either overpowered or soaked up by the layer of shredded cheese they topped the pasta with. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, especially with pasta. But, this was just wayyyy tooo dry. Gemelli Verde - this was also just ok, nothing special here. The goat cheese and mushrooms were nice but again, just found the sauce to be bland and lackluster. This was forgettable. Garganelli - my friend got this and thought it was really good! They also gave a good healthy amount of meat which she appreciated. Overall, for the price, this place was kind of a let down. The appetizers and drinks were fantastic so I'd definitely come back for that. However, I probably wouldn't come back for dinner.

Some folks might be quick to assume Ammazzacaffè is some kind of play on words to suggest an "Amazing Cafe" but it's actually an Italian term for a miniature glass with some liquor to mask the taste of coffee. (#1) No one should be masking the taste of the food here because everything is tasty. Add in some excellent service, intimate vibe, and overall quality experience and this is how 5 star reviews get written. The place is quaint with a sexy bar, intimate seating, and a really killer outdoor space. I had the pleasure of attending a special event in the back and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff was on it for every course and was good about directing guests to the back. They were quick to refill drinks, wines, and keep the place looking ship shape while they transitioned for the next course. Every item I sample, I enjoyed immensely. The gramiga, torcia, and agnolotti pastas were fresh and tasty with every bite. Folks who love a bolognese option would appreciate the garganelli, as well as the reginette which features a pork ragu. Bonus points for scoring their campanelle nero, which is their special squid ink based pasta. From their creamy and delectable burrata to their polpette meatballs, I don't think there's a dish where one can really go wrong. The sea trout tartare is an interesting option, as is their sunchoke hazelnut pesto. Their barbarbietole is a summer palate pleaser with roasted beets, smoked ricotta, pistaachio, and pickled fig. Their coppa is a roasted pork collar ($35) but it is still not as mighty as the anatra ($42), a dry aged duck that is their most expensive entree. While folks might love the pollo ($32) chicken breast, I think most everyone else will appreciate the pesce ($37) grilled branzino or the manzo ($40) braised short rib. The latter is so good that it's hard to call it a shared dish when I can easily kill it all on my own. Finish off the meal with one of their extremely extensive amaro + dessert selection. The former is where the name stems from and the choices are flat out overwhelming. No matter the choice, it'll be a great way to end what should be an outstanding meal. ___________ (#1) "Coffee killer." However, I was quickly proven wrong. Not only was the service topnotch, but the drinks were surprisingly delicious and refreshing. There's a ton of options which is also surprising considering the tap only format. Upon further reflection of how tiny the bar is, it makes sense why they would go this route. It would be challenging for one person let alone two to be behind that bar shaking and stirring. I also heard there's a back area with more seating but we didn't explore much further than the front bar stool seating. We were lucky to grab 2 seats at the bar as the rest of the seating actually seemed a bit cramped and uninviting. They advertise a heated back patio but I don't think the heat was on and no one was there, which is a bummer. Regardless, the theme is nice with everything attributable to their "laboratory" ambience. Everything is served in beakers or similar glasses. It can get a bit crowded sitting at the bar as that's where everyone orders drinks but otherwise this was quite enjoyable. Will definitely keep on the list for HH.
