Pro Tip: Try bamboo massage Just Okay - Not Quite the Serenity I Was Hoping For. I visited A Serenity Now (holistic salon) on Sunday evening booking first time client special via Vagaro. I booked 50 minute massage and bamboo add-on. The atmosphere was nice-- simple building, calm music, lots of bird motifs in the lobby (and bird chirping in their large field in the back), clean environment--but the overall experience felt a bit underwhelming. The salon is located inside an office building (with law offices). Parking is available onsite. The salon is another door right by the entrance. There is no receptionist, but your massage therapist will greet you. The massage therapist was polite, though not particularly genuine. The lobby had a small boutique with various products (mostly CBD). The massage room and table were very humble. I did not particularly feel comfortable as a plus size person. The good news is that massage room had two tables probably for couples services. The amenities were minimal--no complimentary drinks (even water offered) or extras that many spas offer to enhance the experience. My massage was good - pressure and the warmth of bamboo. It lacked the personalized touch I've come to expect from similar spas. For instance, when the time ran out and there were non-massaged areas, the massage therapist just stopped the massage. There was no invitation to come back and book another service. Although I received blog link the next day. Massage menu has great specials starting from $40 for 25 minute massage to $110 for 40 minute massage. There are also add-one available including hot bamboo, deep pressure, facial oils, CBD, and Thai flex. There is also elderberry facial which seem very fun and novel. My bill included "$3" local service fee (no idea what that means) which took away from Vagaro discount (overall I saved like $7). It wasn't a bad visit, but it wasn't memorable either. If you're nearby and in need of a quick treatment, it might do the trick. Just don't expect to be wowed. read more

I was so excited to learn they started a Head Spa service, which I've been hearing is an amazing experience! The head spa treatment was so cool. It was both relaxing and therapeutic at the same time! I enjoyed not only learning more about my scalp and hair quality and getting the right products on it for my needs, but also getting the deep head and neck relaxation at the same time! I've been going to A Serenity Spa for many years now, but not anymore. The new owners have owned this place for months and the only changes I see are the rooms were painted. The stool the massage therapists sits on look like a bunch of cats attacked it. There was foam sticking up everywhere on it. There is no hook to hang up your clothes in the room. I was brought to the room at 1:57. She did not start the massage till 2:06. It does not take 9 minutes to undress. She ended the 80 minute massage at 3:18. She asked me specially which body parts to work on. I told her my neck, shoulders, upper back and lower back. Of the 80 minutes, approximately 5 minutes was spent on those areas. The rest was spent on my head, arms, and legs, which I don't really have any problems with. I did tell her twice which areas to work on. Almost no pressure for the massage itself. There is no water to drink in the main area, which is very important after a massage. The room was way too cold. I mentioned it to her and she just turned up the heat on the table. The massage lotion was ice cold. My body jumped every time she put it on me. I've never had ice cold lotion before. I think she was running out of lotion as well. Don't come here unless you want an expensive back rub. Don't bother contacting the owners. They just give you an AI answer, then ignore you. read more

Hot daaaamn, best massage ever! I bought a Groupon for this place, which is just around the corner from my house, so I figured I'd give it a try. The building isn't much to write home about...it's an old, ratty looking single story office building close to the Ford plant on the Avon Lake side. Don't judge a book by its cover though, right? All of Serenity's massage appointments are booked via their website...no call-ins! Their site is pretty informative and allows you to read a bio on each masseuse before deciding which gal or guy you'd like to choose and it also lists their days and hours of availability. Once you book an appointment, they email you a confirmation and they also send you a text reminder the day before or a few hours before your scheduled appointment. After reading some of the previous Yelp reviews, I decided on Jennifer and wow, did I pick a good one! Jen has some magic hands! I enjoyed my massage so much that I referred my buddy, Darren R and he had a great experience as well. Be sure to check out his review. I bought the 90 minute massage and Jen was very professional and asked me where my problem areas were and what kind of intensity I wanted for my massage. Full strength for me! Haha She did an amazing job, but I wish she would've spent more time on my feet since I mentioned that it's a problem area for me due to my plantar fasciitis. It's ok though...she must not be into feet that much. Haha The massage rooms are very cozy and dimly lit to put you into a relaxed state of mind. The massage table was stable and very comfortable. Before I knew it, my 90 minutes was up and I walked out of the room feeling like a new man! They make checkout very easy by posting prices that include the suggested gratuity based on your level of satisfaction. I simply could not believe their lack of consideration. I simply asked IF it would possible for me to move my massage back over an hour before it was supposed to happen and I was immediately charged for missing my appointment. If they had any professionalism they would have told me yes but I would be charged or told me no and I would have made the arrangements necessary to make it there on time. I also went there before and booked for the wrong service accidentally online and was scolded like a child for not realising my mistake and calling ahead and asking for them to switch my service but I now see even if I had I would not have been given a professional response. Erica was the one who gave me the massage. I was afraid because this company had just as many bad reviews as good ones, but the massage itself was ok. She just used too much oil. Before I got dressed I actually had to wipe a lot of the oil off. She said she has been licensed for about 7 months, so she probably needs someone to tell her that she is using way too much oil. I didn't realize there was too much until I actually got up. The oil also was unscented, so during the massage, I smelled more of the softener that they used on the sheets than a calming scent of oil. It would've been nice to have some relaxing essential oils or something incorporated into the massage, even if it was near the temple area. The space itself was very clean, it looks like an old office building transformed into a massage area. The room where you are massaged in is actually an old office space but it was clean. It was dim, she said she put music on, but all it sounded like was a waterfall sound, no really relaxing music. The only other thing I didn't care for was that she talked through the entire massage. I felt bad for her because she was talking about someone that had passed away so I carried on a conversation, but next time I will tell her from the beginning that I like a "no-talk" massage. I've read about how people are turned off at their tip suggestions. The tip postings weren't tacky per se, because I can understand that they do alot of Groupon's, and if someone has never had a massage before, they probably don't know how to tip. But.....when the massage was over, I gave her my money and she looked disappointed that I had only given her a little over a 20% tip. So she asked me, was this for the tax and the tip? And I said yes, and she looked disappointed. My appointment was at 6:00 for an hour massage. She started about 6:07 because she was out in the hall explaining to a customer leaving that they needed to drink water afterwards, etc, etc., and my massage ended at 6:58 so it technically wasn't even an hour long. So that, plus the too much oil, and her talking the whole way through, I felt that a 20% tip was fair. I did use a Groupon for this massage, but I tipped her the amount that the massage "should" have been, not on the Groupon cost. Overall, I would go back again and request Erica, but I would ask for a silent massage, and I'd probably take my own Essential Oils and ask her if she could incorporate those into the less oily massage. read more

I, unlike the other two reviews, had a great experience with Kelly at her business. I purchased the Living Social back in November, scheduled my massage via the internet. I had my one hour massage which I paid $20 for this past Sunday. The place is a little further than my liking, but that is my own fault. It was snowing too which wasn't fun. Walking in I was a little sketched out because it looked like someone's home and not a business. But it was a cute little setup when you walk in, you sign a sheet of paper, she even had the appropriate tip calculations written, which is nice. I didn't have to wait long, Kelly was great with me, felt immediately comfortable, which is hard for me because I'm an antsy type of person. She really beat me up with my shoulder, but that is good! I did knock a star down, only because I felt like the place where she does do the massages is a little dated, don't get me wrong it is quaint and nice, but when the next client came in, I could obviously hear them and knew that they were sitting right outside my massage..awkward, but still not the worst thing to happen. The massage was ok. When someone ask me what I want them to focus on, I expect them to spend more than just a minute on it. My neck and back bothered me the most, problem still unsolved. There's no reception desk. You just sign in and sit there till someone decides to come out and help you, if they even know you're in there waiting. You can't call for an appointment, everything is done online. Last but not least, I felt disrespected. I'm a cosmetologist, I work with lots of chemicals and I accidentally burnt the top of my foot with callous remover so it looks like there's a cigarette burn. Very disappointed!!! Scheduled an appointment online for a couples massage for 11am on Tuesday, October 11th. They emailed a confirmation at 8:30am, I show up with my girlfriend to get our massage and no one is here or answering the phone. Their hours say they would be open at 9am and there's no body here, and it's now 11:15am. Just checked my appointment and it was changed to 25th and at noon. With out anyone calling or emailing to ask if that is ok or even tel us they need to change the appointment. Why would you ever send a reminder and then cancelled with out telling the customer all in the same day? I wanted to like this place, I really did. I received a gift certificate for Christmas and made myself an appointment for a 90 minute massage for a Friday evening . I walked into the studio and was somewhat taken aback at how cluttered and shabby the place was. Nonplussed though I was, I realized that one need not be necessarily in luxurious surroundings to receive a great massage. I decided not to judge a book by its cover. I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment. After waiting about 10 minutes I was checked in by a very friendly woman. A few moments later a very friendly young man came in and told me that he would make sure my room was ready and that my massage therapist would be right with me. I was optimistic. Several minutes later, my massage therapist was ushered into the waiting area by the aforementioned man, who introduced him. My therapist never made eye contact with me... He read my name from the sign in sheet and pointed to where I should go. I was so uncomfortable... I felt like he was irritated that he had a late appointment on a Friday night. The massage itself was OK. I've had better and I've had worse. I was unable to really relax because the entire time I felt like he didn't really want to be there. I like a deep massage that's not necessarily relaxing the entire time, but I have bruises from this one. Also, it seems that the 90 minutes starts when your therapist first talks to you because even though I got on the table at about 715, my massage was over at 830. I would rather spend more money up front to be in a setting that is more relaxing and be with a massage therapist who doesn't give off the vibe that I'm a pain in their side. I realize that we're all only human but it's pretty off putting when your massage therapist is yawning audibly the entire time. You get what you pay for, as they say. read more

I just went for my second massage but my first with Katie. I had just as positive experience as I did the last time. Scheduling is very easy on their site and I received confirmations in my email and a phone text message. I emailed an additional question about my appointment and Kelly got back to me within 24 hours. Actually she got back to me pretty quickly. Katie is wonderful in her personality and technique. She is very friendly, accommodating and very skilled, like Matt. I gushed enough about Matt before, now it's Katie's turn - not that either were better than the other. She also was so personable, I felt comfortable right away. I felt she connected with my personality and my concerns well. Since I was late the last time I went, I arrived 20 minutes early and was the first appointment of the day. Katie arrived within a minute of me - and apologized for her tardiness. She was very concerned that I was waiting too long and I assured her I wasn't. We walked into their space and it was clean and smelled delightful. Before she even lit any candles or turned on all the lights, she asked me if I had any concerns I wanted her to focus on. I told her about my problem. She literally dropped everything to do some exploratory, asked me some more questions, then asked if i could be patient for a minute while she get settled, turn on music, etc. WOW! Also - she concentrated on where I asked to, then other regions connected. I feel great today! I didn't wake up with stiffness or an empty wallet. I'm just floored by their rates and quality. $45 for an hour? That's not a promotion - that's their flat rate. WOW, imo. read more

I purchased 3 of these 90 minute massages for my daughter's and I through Groupon because they were so reasonable. $37/90 minutes. Although the website was a little tough to navigate through, I figured we'd give it a try. We drove to the location, which is in an office building, which seemed a little sketchy. Believe me, it's not the normal spa experience that you would expect, but upon booking our massage, I'm so glad we gave them a try. The masseuse was amazing. In addition to an unbelievable massage, Alexander stretched my lower body and worked out all my tension and stress. Truly, one of the best massages I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Like I said, if you're looking for a totally zen atmosphere with all the bells and whistles, this isn't the place, but if you're looking for an exceptional massage, then go buy your groupon!!! Very dissatisfied! I was referred by two of my coworkers that see Kelly and are very happy with her. I was so excited to possibly find a massage therapist to go to on a regular basis to treat my shoulder pain. I requested Kelly and when I got there a different therapist walked in. When I explained my frustration (mind you I am naked on the massage table) she said she didn't know how this happened that she'd only been there two weeks. I was is so much pain from her massage that I am now seeing a chiropractor this Thursday! I would have been more than willing to reschedule the appointment and seen Kelly had they called me! I've always heard the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Well, in this case the grass was much greener!! I found an amazing masseuse who I was afraid to leave but after my buddy Jason W. raved about Jennifer at "A Serenity Now Massage" I decided to give her a shot. I took his recommendation because we both loved the masseuse we were currently being treated by. I knew if he thought she was great then maybe she is. Upon walking in I wasn't greeted with the same decor as my previous place. But who cares about all the fluff of a fancy spa lobby? You're there for your well-being, not an Art Museum. So throw all the aesthetics out of the window and give your body what it really needs and deserves!! My experience: Jennifer was very friendly and easy to talk to. I immediately felt comfortable upon meeting her. She is very humble and easy going just as I am. She walked me to my room, let me in and closed the door so that I can dress down accordingly in my own privacy. Once she returned she was sure to knock before entering. These things aren't the most important to me but they may be to somebody else so I am mentioning them here. The table was very very comfortable which is important to me. I believe they are memory foam, you can really feel the quality. Jenn asked me how much pressure I would like for my massage. This seems like something that should always be asked but believe it or not some people just give you what they want to give you and not what you want or need. I told her I have a high tolerance and she could put the hurt on me, the good kind of hurt obviously. She went to work and really got deep into the layers of muscles I have been torturing in the gym. I don't know how to explain it exactly but if you are familiar with deep tissue work you should understand the saying "it hurts so good!" She really worked out my knots and kinks. I was pretty bound up and I have been dealing with a neck/trap issue for a few weeks. I believed that I may have pulled a muscle in the gym. Doesn't matter what I did because it's gone now, like it never happened. She found an area I told her always bothered me but my last masseuse never really found it unless I really pointed it out to her. She said "I find everything" and she is true to her word. She found spots that I didn't even know were bound up. She was EFFING AMAZING!!!! I told her she's probably like the Stephen Curry of the massage industry and just needs a mouth guard to chew on to look the part. She's that good that I think she's so good that even other good masseuses would look at her like Clevelander's look at Stephen Curry. So good they hate her lol. If you don't have haters you're not doing anything, I believe in that and that's always been my philosophy. Jenn is gonna have haters, she just stole me and my buddy from a great masseuse, that's not easy to do. Big props to Jenn as I sit here feeling looser than ever and ready to wreck weights in the gym!! As long as Jenn works here this place will stay in business. I will ABSOLUTELY be back in to see her!! Do not choose this place for a massage if you want it to fit you schedule. After selecting an appointment time and date, you will get a text (not a phone call) to change your appointment time to fit the schedule of your masseuse. They also do not accept phone calls or make phone calls. Very disappointing and will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Do yourself a favor and book with any other place...at least you wont have to readjust your schedule. read more

I recently bought a Groupon for a massage here and I was extremely upset with the quality of the massage. I've had GREAT massages, OKAY massages, but the massage I received here was AWFUL. The massage therapist was very sweet, but she spent about 30 min on my arms.. and the other 30 mins on my back. After the massage, she informed me that I still have to pay $3 something for tip.. and I tried to pay with my credit card, but it wouldn't go through on their iPAD and needless to say I ended up tipping with cash where they had no change for... and I definitely tipped more than I should have. For the cost it's a great place. It doesn't have the "extras" (heated massage tables, scented massage oil, receptionist) of a typical spa/massage place but the massage was excellent and at a really fair price. Erica the massage therapist did an excellent job! I would highly recommend going to her! They don't have a receptionist so it's a little weird when you walk in and just sit there until someone comes out to get you. They also do all their booking online which is a little scary because I always like talking with someone. The place has the aura of an opium den and no service........literally. Tried to call to find out if maybe there was a family emergency, and guess what. There is no way to contact via phone because your recording blatently states it will be too difficult to return a call. Two thumbs down for lack of professionalism, lack of edicate, and overall piss-poor experience. After reading some more online reviews of customers using the Groupon, Deal Chicken, or Amazon Local coupons I wouldn't be surprised if this a sham scam. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for over one month. It was for a very special occasion with my fiancé. We had scheduled two prepaid living social in-home massages. Kelly, the owner never showed up. We received no notification that she would not be showing up to our home. We wasted hundreds of dollars in preparation to make this a wonderful experience. After waiting for her for one hour and 13 phone calls later, we received an email from Kelly stating that we were a no-show and that we should reference the no-show-no refund policies. This is clearly a failing business. Beware this is scam. Upside, living social refunded the payment without hesitation because they stated this has happened on several occasions. read more
