I recently moved back to the area (I had been living in NYC for the last 8 years) and was looking for a new salon to go. I needed a cut and color and after reading the reviews on yelp I decided to try Serenity. I have to admit, I was nervous. I had been seeing Senior Stylists at some of the top salons in NYC so I wasn't sure how I this was going to go. Channel is the stylist who helped me and she did an AMAZING job. The color matched perfectly, she cut my hair exactly how I wanted it done, and she gave me a very cute blow out which I am happy to say lasted through the night and I am still rocking today! I felt like Channel really listened to me about what I wanted. I cant wait to go back to her in July for a gloss on my ends and a touch up. The salon itself is decorated nicely and is very clean. All the stylists and receptionists were very friendly as well. I wasn't pressured into any additional services and I felt very "at home" at Serenity. I am excited to try the spa out next! I would HIGHLY recommend this salon (and Channel) to anyone looking for a great place to go. read more

I made an appointment for a Brazilian wax and was set up with Sarah. I have never in my life had a more horrific experience. The room that the waxing took place in was dumpy looking, there were water marks all over the ceiling and the entire area seemed unsanitary. The aesthetician did NOT know what she was doing whatsoever and the waxing was extremely painful. She was ready to tell me that I was finished after 40 minutes of pain when I realized that the waxing was not complete. She admitted to me at the end that she was "sucky", left me with wax everywhere and did not offer anything to soothe the pain. They still charged me half ( like they were doing me a favor). The manager called me to offer for me to come back at a different time for another one. (Who in there right mind would ever ever return after being put through this). It took the management 2 weeks to refund my $ and I was in touch every day until they did. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone for anything. Do not go through the misery I had to. read more

I was excited to find an area salon that offered ear candling as my ears were clogged and tried every remedy out there. One of my friends recommended ear candling so I decided to try it. OMG fantastic I couldn't believe the amount of pollen and wax this service was able to remove from my ears. It was comfortable and pleasant as while it is happening they massage your ears and head. No pain at all and the results were wonderful. The salon was clean and the people were pleasant. I will be recommending this service and this salon to do it!!!i I will be back. read more

Full service salon with lots of experienced stylists. I have been going to this salon for years and have had my hair cut, colored, and/or highlighted by several of the stylists and they are top knotch. I also have had a massage by several different therapists and they have all been fantastic. They currently use mostly Aveda products. Highly recommend this salon. read more

I recount this story as a testament that even after a horrible experience, a place of business CAN make a customer feel compensated and appreciated, and keep them as a client. On Friday, I came into Serenity Salon and Spa for a brazilian bikini wax. I have been waxed there several times by Michelle, an amazing aesthetician who did a phenomenal job. I was sad to hear she was no longer at the salon but booked an appointment with their new staff person. She gave me, what I can honestly say, was the worst, most painful waxing experience of my entire life. It was so horrible, that I can say with confidence that I would have rather been waxed at a nail salon in the mall. It was horrible. While the wax was happening, the very inexperienced aesthetician was very nervous and upset, because the new wax that they apparently started using that day, had caused a huge issue for a client earlier in the day and that client screamed and yelled and walked out with wax STILL ON HER. Well, I wasn't going to do that- but the wax was stuck to me as well and took a herculean effort and a LOT of pain to remove---not a nice place to have wax stuck to you. The aesthetician was horrified and tried very hard to keep her cool as her nerves unraveled- and eventually finished the waxing with MUCH pain and suffering. At the end she was so apologetic and offered me a free facial as compensation for the terrible experience- which I took her up on. The owner of the salon was there when I emerged from my room and I candidly told her how bad the experience was. She was extremely apologetic, offering me a deep discount on the service and insuring me that this new wax (which I do believe was a big part of the problem, not the inexperience of the aesthetician) would no longer be used, and that she would be on the phone with the rep immediately to give this feedback. Her crew was very friendly and tried to appease me as best they could. I would not get waxed there again, but I will be reporting back on the facial when I go in a few weeks. I DO recommend this salon for other services, and do not want to caution you against their hair care and mani/pedis- they have been good! But you absolutely should not be waxed there. A friendly group of girls work here. I've had my hair cut by multiple members of staff here, and they've always indulged my requests - from free unibrow waxing, to sideburn and eyebrow trimming. I don't live terribly far from the place, but one time I was stranded there without a ride home. Their response was to coordinate a ride home for me. It's for these features together that they get the highest rating from me, and more than likely a long future of patronage. I cannot recommend this salon more. read more

I called Serenity because of the positive reviews on Yelp. It was my first time having a wax. I was inspired by the 40-Year-Old Virgin to have my back done for the first time. :-) The front desk was vacant when I arrived an hour before closing on a Saturday. But a pleasant stylist greeted us and said she would be right back, so I sat in the waiting room. The music was some of the most horrible hard rock noise that I've ever heard, so I was happy that I didn't have to wait long! The aesthetician that did my wax was quite meek and seemed a bit timid, almost as though it was her first time doing a back wax on a man. But once she set to work, it was clear she knew what she was doing and her confidence and expertise finally showed through. The treatment was very quick and completely painless. It was all over in less than a half-hour. I would definitely recommend this salon, although their music choice for the waiting area certainly did not inspire 'serenity'! Great service! I have always had a great experience at Serenity! Everyone is very kind and welcoming and I feel very comfortable going there. I go back every four weeks for my hair color and hair cut. I love all the services that they offer! I am very happy going to Serenity for my services and will continue to do so! read more
