I have often left The Lift with hair cut so unevenly that I have had to even it out myself at home. My son just got his hair cut again after his last one there, and the new hairdresser pointed out that there was a huge difference in length between the R and L side over his ears. Heartbroken Bride - A Cautionary Tale for Anyone with Textured Hair On October 4, 2024, I had my hair done at The Lift Salon by Justin, a stylist I had previously trusted. As a South Asian woman with thick, coarse hair, I made it very clear that this appointment was for my wedding day. What should've been a joyful, exciting experience turned into a months-long nightmare -- one I'm still dealing with in June 2025. The salon is very much a white-centered space, and while that shouldn't matter, it clearly did. Just because I have thick hair does not mean it's okay to bleach it to the lightest color possible without any real conversation about the risks involved. As a stylist, it is your responsibility to inform your client of potential damage -- especially when working with textured or ethnic hair. Had I known my hair would end up gummy, stringy, and permanently compromised, I would've never agreed to this. I even voiced concern during the appointment when I noticed the gummy texture. Justin brushed it off and told me it would feel like that for "just two days." I trusted him -- big mistake. After the first wash, my hair was a sticky, breaking mess. It was completely ruined. Since then, I've spent months trying to repair it, and I'm still not even close. When I reached out to the owner, Cristol, hoping for accountability and understanding, I was met with nothing but ego, gaslighting, and attitude. Her exact words were: "But you loved your hair and walked out with a smile." I told her: "I didn't even realize how damaged it was at the time -- check your cameras, I was trying to bring it up to Justin during the service." Instead of listening, she cut me off and said, "I will not have you come back into the salon. I'll just refund you. You can go to my friend, Carve Beauty, to get your treatments done." I was in tears. I had just paid $600 for a service that destroyed my hair and left me completely heartbroken -- and she had the audacity to ban me? As if I'd ever want to go back. You couldn't even pay me to return. Update - End of June 2025 This photo shows the current condition of my hair -- still gummy, breaking, and fragile despite everything I've done to try and fix it. Funny enough, I didn't find Carve Beauty on my own. Cristol -- in the middle of kicking me out of her salon -- actually recommended I go there. The irony? Carve turned out to be everything The Lift is not. At Carve, Tina, one of the owners, was professional, kind, and truly empathetic. When I told her what had happened, she was genuinely appalled. I ended up doing around six intensive treatments at Carve and purchased their molecular repair treatment to continue care at home. And still, after all that, I'm left with long-term damage. If you want a salon that will actually listen, respect you, and treat your hair with real care and knowledge, I cannot recommend Carve Beauty enough. Go to Tina for anything major or corrective -- she's amazing. And for regular styling, ask for Abby -- she's just as talented and sweet. Skip the arrogance. Skip the gaslighting. Skip the damage. Go where your hair and your voice are respected -- go to Carve. read more

The Lift is in a huge old brick warehouse in Easthampton, MA. It's a beautiful white modern hair salon filled with fresh sunlight. Walking in you are greeted by a warm friendly receptionist who asks you if they can get you anything. They don't just give you a paper cup filled with your beverage. You receive a small tray with a nice glass of water or a white cup filled with coffee the way you like it. Magically a delicious cookie appears on your tray. Then you're whisked away to the shampoo station. They have top of the line massage chairs to help you relax as they shampoo and condition your hair. Their products are top notch. Their scents aren't overbearing. I get bad headaches, and I've never had a problem. The scents are clean and refreshing. They give nice pampering head massages as part of the shampoo. Justin's head massage is out of this world! He's a magician with long hair. While every stylist is talented and skilled, I clicked with him immediately. Justin and I joke that he's my hair's baby daddy. That's how much love he puts into the service I receive. He's a whiz at looking at you in your best light, and showcasing your beauty. I've come to know Justin, and now I just let him be as creative as he wants to be with my hair. He thrives using his creativity to its fullest. In exchange, my haircut illuminates my face! Cristal, one of the owners is wonderful. While I haven't been in her chair, I came to The Lift because I couldn't get over how gorgeous a woman's hair doo was when I saw her. She's been seeing Crystal from the very beginning. She couldn't stop raving about everyone at The Lift. Everyone who works at The Lift, and everyone who walks into The Lift is friendly. I went to Lift for the first time today and received a great haircut! The atmosphere is really nice, super friendly staff and I love all the plants around the place. Old school Brittney on the radio was a plus! Savannah my stylist was very cool and good to talk to as well as skilled and gentle with my locks. In this economy the price was quite reasonable too and I like how all the service prices are posted by stylist on their website. They are the worst!!! The hairdresser couldn't analyse my hair. İf she could, she wouldn't process it that much or warn me. When my hair is done she rushed me to pay, didn't show me the back of my hair and even sold me a product. I didn't realize half of my hair was gone until I came home and my sister pointed out that my hair is gone. It's been two months, no other hairdresser wants to fix my hair and I used the purple shampoo Morgan sold me after she ruined my hair thinking it would fix the brassyness and at least make me look halfway decent and now it looks like bird shit. I waited a long time for my appointment at The Lift. I thought it would be a good place for blonde highlights as they were so many pictures of blonde hair on their insta page. I had come prepared, with pictures to show my preferred hair color, which is tawny golden blonde. . The stylus convinced me that I needed some low lights to break up my blonde. She put so many low lights in that my hair turned dark brown. She then asked if I wanted to cover some small gray in the front. I said yes. She used an ash blonde color to cover the gray, nothing like the shade I had shown her, and my hair turned dark brown with ash gray white at the front, making it look like I had more grey hair not less.. This was not my usual look at all. And I was horrified. There was also no blonde of any kind through the length of my hair, and no continuity of color, looking blonde on the top and dark at the bottom. ( didn't ask for ombré) when you have been dyeing, your hair for 30 years, you know what you want. I called the salon to see when I could come back to fix my hair. The receptionist was most unhelpful, and told me "we don't really have appointment time for return clients. Everyone is happy who leaves here." I had to call three times, and then I had to speak with the manager to organize a return visit. when I arrived, I was intimidated by the original Colorist and the manager, who told me."I think your hair looks great." and looked at each other like I was a troublemaker. The colorist, then put clarifying shampoo on my head twice, and added an orangey toner. My hair changed from Ash to orange, and the low lights underneath stayed dark brown. I was so upset. I cried all the way home. Not only did my hair look terrible, I had been pressured into this "dont care much about you cheap fix". I should've just gotten a refund and gone somewhere else. Do not like the back/sides at all. It is not what I asked for or showed in picture. Now I know why I was not shown the back or sides. I specifically asked for the back bottom to be cut straight across but to look thicker at the bottom, not choppy across the bottom, flowing but straight full, so that the back "bottom" looks fuller with more body, naturally turns under. Simple. Jen said she had this technique for straight hair that would work, would feather it a little, and shape just around the face in front chin length. Did not need to loose the length. 1/2 the volume all the way around is gone. In back, I now have at least two layers basically a much shorter one 5"+ above the other "feathered/chopped" over at least one other. The left side chopped out at least 4-5". Very sloppy looking. Back is not straight across full at just the bottom one length. Looks much flatter, thinner, chopped up, no clean line, cut out over the whole thing. Over layered bottom choppy. Was told I had a film on my hair that would tear the hair if it was blow dried and it wouldn't look right. ? Feel that was just making up for being over 1/2 hr. late to catch up, as I blow dry it without a problem. The film is just organic coconut oil, which is like putting henna, gel or mouse in someones hair to style it. $58 that looks nothing like what I asked for, messy, not symmetrical as you can see in the photos. Too many lengths cut out back/sides. Jagged. Ratty. All over the place. Unsophisticated. Cannot be fixed until it grows out a bit. UPDATE 3/7/17: Was called back by the other owner, Kim, who was very nice, issued a refund, and Kim offered to clean it up a bit if I wanted, which I will probably do after it grows in a bit. BRIELLE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! 10/10. She is extremely professional, experienced and wonderful energy and conversation. She not only can do EXACTLY the look you want but she does it with ease and expertise. I am very picky with my hair, change it often and like it to be perfect all the time. Brielle delivers every SINGLE time. She's knowledgeable about products that work for your specific hair type and the type of after care for color and cut type. Not only does Brielle make my hair salon experience awesome, but the Lift Salon is super upbeat and the staff are all so friendly. Despite covid making their jobs more difficult, they have an extremely clean salon with plenty of space between clients and a spacious waiting area. The decor is pleasing and classy. If you are maybe looking into a new Salon, don't make the mistake of going someplace else. Brielle is the best of the best. Side note, I have super curly, long thick hair. I definitely have had trouble in the past finding a stylist who knew how to make my hair look amazing naturally. I went two weeks ago for a cut at the Easthampton location. I arrived a few minutes early, and was offered a drink which I declined. I then waited 30 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment before heading up to the counter to inquire. Why didn't the receptionist keep me updated? I'm sitting right there! I was so confused and a little upset as it was my first visit. Finally after nearly 40 minutes of waiting, I was seen by Wendy. She was very nice and the cut she gave me was great. I'd give her cut four stars. But then she charged me full price ($57!!!!) For my cut! I was in and out in about twenty five minutes when I was scheduled for 45! I did get a bit of hair chopped, but it wasn't anything drastic! She did it so quickly, too! They do not list prices on their site, only ranges. It is $30-57 for a cut. Lucky me, mine was full price. No discount or even acknowledgement of my wait. I will not be going back. What a disappointment! I was hoping to be a regular customer! The Lift is, without a doubt, the best hair salon I have ever been to. As a self professed "salon snob", I am very picky about who does my hair. The Lift has met and exceeded my expectations. Complaining about not knowing any good hair salons in the area, I went toThe Lift at the recommendation of a friend. Located in an industrial looking building (Eastworks), I was not sure what to expect from the outside. This salon seems somewhat out of place in what I know of Western Massachusetts. It has a very "city" vibe. The atmosphere is lively and energetic. Upon entering the salon, you are greeted by a receptionist and offered a beverage. They even have a wide selection of teas to sip on while your hair is being done. The beverage is served on a small plate with a couple of cookies to go along with it- a simple touch which I just love. They even have small laptops for clients to use while their color is processing. Sure, the atmosphere is good, but even more importantly, the stylists know what they are doing! I get my hair done by Courtney, and love it everytime. They are truly a professional, well educated, talented and thorough salon. I'm so glad to have found this place! read more

This place is the best... I was a mom-and-pop barber shop guy for a long time and never realized the difference in a quality cut until I started coming here. I was in the Eastworks building for other reasons, but my hair was shaggy, the place looked nice, so i stepped in to see if they accept walk-ins. Andrew was at the counter, was professional, let me know a stylist, Erin, was available, and offered me a drink and snack. A short consultation between stylist and client to discuss the cut comes next. But perhaps the best part is the shampoo and conditioning. You sit in a massage chair and the stylist not only washes your hair, but does so using a Shiatsu-massage technique. A head, neck, and back massage before a haircut? Yes, please. I only wish my hair grew faster so I could be here once a week. I've stuck with the same stylist that saw me on my first visit because she cut my hair so well. I've worn my hair short, long, shaggy, and clean cut, and no matter what style I'm looking for, she always cuts and styles my hair great. I've actually used one other stylist for a last-minute appointment once and she did a fabulous job as well. My basic male cut goes for $27. At the local barber shop I was paying $15, but for an extra 10 bucks I get a spacious, sleek setting, a drink and snack, wi-fi, a wash, a massage, and a professional cut. read more

Great balayage that is well blended with attention to detail and knowledgeable about different techniques, and knows all the trendy hair styles on Instagram. she has consistently given me a great cut and I trust her judgement. I've been going every 8 weeks for a year now and lightened my dark Asian hair to a med/dark blonde balayage with babylights. I have very thick hair and she thins and debulks it perfectly, where in the past ive gotten a lot of too blunt cuts that look poofy. So far the best stylist I've ever had. Never had a bad experience with them in the 5 years or so that I have been going to them. I went in once for a perm (dunno what I was thinking with that haha), and Kim did it for me. She had warned me that the perm doesn't always work on my hair type, but I went with it anyways. Wellll it didn't hold, and when I went back in to talk to her she offered to either try the perm again for free or to do my formal hairstyle for my prom for free. Thinking maybe the perm not working the first time as a sign that the perm wasn't meant to be, I decided to go with the prom hair. She did an awesome job on it too! I have had my hair cut here a few times now, and give high marks all around. The location in Eastworks is convenient with tons of parking and the space is clean, bright, and modern. They offer you something to drink as soon as you arrive (which always seems to come with bonus cookies) and they're always ready on time for my appointment. Everyone is friendly and generally cheerful (no surly attitudes here), and most importantly, I always like my cut. In the past I've been nervous about haircuts in general, but I trust these folks. I usually see Emily, who is sweet and chatty, works fast, and has great taste - I give her very little direction and she just gets it right. I saw Justin once too and he was also wonderful. At the Amherst location, I saw Amanda once and she gave me another solid cut. Pretty consistent quality so I wouldn't worry about who you book with. Coming from Boston, these prices seem very reasonable to me - it's less than $50 a cut. A+ read more

AWFUL! NEVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN! I went in for what I was hoping would be a trim, color and highlight. The hair stylist seemed argumentative when I told him what I was hoping for... I wanted my grays covered and a few highlights in a lighter color. After a minute of back and forth with him, I just told him to color the grays. Strike one. When it came time for washing, the head massage felt wonderful and all was fine until I went back to wait for the stylist to finish highlighting another person. I still had hair dye all in the back of my hair. I literally took tissue out and was wiping it off. I had to tell the receptionist that I still had color in my hair and went in for shampoo #3 and conditioner #2. Strike two. When I got to the chair, the trim went fine, but I was already in a bad mood and was not in the mood for small talk with the stylist. He made a comment about me not being talkative and I just told him I wanted to get home. It had been almost 2 hours of being there! Believe it or not, I actually was charged $95 for this FIASCO and I did leave a tip... until... I got in my car and noticed an OBSCENE amount of hair dye all along my forehead that had not been addressed! Strike three. I'm used to a small amount, of course, but this was ridiculous!! I called the place back, spoke to the manager who apologized, revoked the tip I had left ($15 which I thought was generous considering how unhappy I was), and will NEVER go there again or encourage any of my school colleagues to either! I feel bad being the one person thus far who is giving a bad review, but I would be remiss if I didn't share my story to paint a more thorough picture of the place. read more

Let me start off by saying I went to the North Amherst location and saw Kim both times. While I was there I observed other stylists giving fantastic haircuts and color/highlights to clients and they walked out looking amazing! The shop is super clean and nicely set up with one wall being all windows. The staff all appear to get along with each other and are friendly which makes for a nice environment to walk into. The place has great energy. The first time I went in, I went for a particular hair style, highlights, lowlights and a cut. I went armed with a photo and clear directions of what I wanted. Kim and I discussed the hairstyle, she looked at the picture and away we went. I thought things were going great. She was friendly, conversation flowed easily, and we had a plan. Well, sometimes the best laid out plans fail. And they fail miserably. What happened next remains a mystery even to me. I walked in a blonde looking for blonder highlights with some dark streaks and some red (I swear it looks better than it sounds) and what it turned out to be was a muddled mess of brownish, greenish with a little black goo thrown in. My hair was about 300 different colors and none of them were on the color chart. I was mortified but optimistic she could fix it. Kim is one of the owners after all and has been doing this for years. No worries, we tried again. And again. Aaaaaannnnnd again. Six hours, burning scalp, broken hair, sore butt and starving kids later, I left looking like I did when I came in - minus a bunch of hair. Still, I liked her and she promised me she could fix it. Six weeks later I optimistically go for round two. This time I don't have high hopes for any hairstyle and I cautiously just asked for a root touch-up. Easy enough right? Kim bleached my roots then uses toner to "blend the roots to the rest of the hair". The end result was a line of demarcation where she highlighted the roots and the hair that wasn't done. And it is very noticeable. And did I mention I start a new job next week?! But I digress. At this point Kim is not so nice any more. She starts scolding me for waiting six weeks for coming back in rather than four. She is insistent that I never wait more than four weeks no matter what is going on in my life and that the problems she is having with my hair are not qher fault. She reluctantly states she will attempt to try and fix only a few pieces on the top but I must sit and wait until she takes her next client first. Her next client got highlights, cut and style. After waiting in timeout for over an hour, I was back in the chair for six foils on the top of my head. Unfortunately, I still have ring-around-the-head and am currently in the market for some great hats. ***UPDATE 04/02/15*** I added another star because I received a call from Kim saying she as troubled as I am by the uneven color and wants to fix it. However, she stated that she will have someone else do it at my own cost. Her call came shortly after I posted my review. read more

I've been living in the area for awhile and have had many a bad haircut. I have given about four different salons a try. This is my new salon!!! My boyfriend and I both had our hair cut at the North Amherst location and they are the best haircuts we both have EVER had! We both had long hair we wanted to donate and we both were nervous. They were all so so nice and from the time you walk in they treat you so well. I have always had a hard time loving short hair and the stylist is like a hair whisperer! My boyfriend has curly hair and his hair will get poufy if it's cut wrong and his stylist tamed and cut it perfectly. We will be going back forever!!! read more

With a husband in the military it's hard moving around and having to find somebody new to color/cut your hair. Normally it takes me a few different places to find somebody. But with a recommendation from a friend I tried out this place. She did a great job! My color was perfect and cut was great! It was $135 for highlights, color and a cut. I think I might be as loyal to Tiffany at The Lift as I am to my husband (let's be clear, that's super loyal). Tiffany makes my hair feel and move different every time. She's taken me from a short bob to long hair, and I've loved every cut. Additionally, today I went in for a bang trim and she had time to squeeze me in for a full cut which made my week. The staff is very accommodating and takes care of you from the start. The massage chairs when you get shampooed are epic and everyone is completely lovely. Love, love, love The Lift. I've had iffy luck for hair services in Amherst, so I was very very pleasantly surprised with how amazing my appointment with Lindsey was last night! She listened to what I wanted and was able to really work with my to understand my wants and my needs (including needing my hair to look good even on the mornings where I don't want to do much with it). I have been going to this salon for over 2 years to see Lauren Boucher. I have had great experiences with cut, color and hair extensions. I have gotten my hair done multiple times for events and have been pleased every time. They really listen to what you want and give great advice on what products to use. You can tell they care a lot about their clients, they aren't just there to sell you on their services. I have recommended many people in to get their hair done for events and everyone has nothing but good things to say about their hair. I love the treatments they provide. The salon is very up to date, everyone is extremely professional and attentive. They do such a great job, I ended up booking them for my upcoming wedding for my bridesmaids and myself. Got a great cut today with Sam in the Easthampton location! She helped me decide what I needed to do to get rid of my dead ends and frame my face. I am really happy with the cut and the blowout. I loved the products they used in my hair (R+ Co brand). The salon is lovely, everyone is very friendly and the lady who checked me in brought me coffee on a little tray with these awesome vanilla wafers. I will definitely go back! read more
