My only complaint is that the store is not bigger/there is no room for more toys.

I mentioned it to the owner and she said they usually have more. I thought the prices were quite good. I ended up buying a small kit to start that was only $5.99, that made a ton of bracelets. While I was there, another customer came in looking for something she couldn't find in other shops. They had the exact toy she wanted and she was so excited. It was a sweet moment to witness. Plus, my almost 5 year old wanted to check it out as well. Looking around, I found an old Leapster Explorer with a bunch of games (pre-owned). I inquired on the price and apparently the person selling it was not around. I waited a good 10 minutes before the mid-aged woman came around to give us a price quote. Here's the kicker: while I was still browsing my fiancé approached them as the girls were telling each other that the Leapster may not even work. Any ol' who, the woman quoted me $10. I didn't hesitate as I thought, my daughter turns 5 in a few weeks and she would love the entertainment nonetheless. So I purchased it and she DID end the transaction with "if it doesn't work, at least you have all of those games". Fast forward to RIGHT NOW - 9pm and my kids are both asleep and I decide to change the batteries on the Leapster Explorer. It works beautifully. No complaints. Then I proceed to get in bed so that I can play some of the games. Now, there are at least 15 games in total. Only 3 fit the Leapster Explorer. The other games are for another Leapster. I feel mistreated and abused. She could have at least let me know this. No wonder my daughter kept asking me to help her with the games. We were in the car when she was sort of playing with it and since the baby was crying, I wasn't fully attentive of this. The problem is not the $10. It's still a great deal. The problem is the lack of communication overall. So glad that I can do my normal thing of YELPING! I have no shame stating the truth and revealing who I am. I just don't like trickery. I don't like to be treated like a dummy. That's how I feel. Luckily I'm a huge online couponer and deal finder. I already found the proper Leapster for $5 and will be waiting for it to arrive so that my daughter can have access to the other games.

You'll find everything from modern fandom pieces to classic toys from the '80s, which adds to the fun of browsing. Some of the more common items can feel a bit overpriced, but it's also clear that some of what they sell is harder to find, so pricing likely reflects rarity on certain pieces. I have a special love for this place because every Saturday during the summer, they put out a beautiful lemonade stand (designed by the talented owners Lori & Trish) and give all the profits to different charities! They even do a call for local kids to run the lemonade stand - a terrific way to introduce the volunteering bug to kids. My own boys were thrilled to help raise funds for Make-a-Wish. Hip-Kid also does cute kids' parties and runs classes like dance, paint, and STEAM science. I heart this place because it *has* heart. A wonderful store with so much more than meets the eye.
