Joe, my service advisor, greeted me very quickly and got me set up for the recall service as well as a last minute oil change and tire rotation with no problem. I elected to sit in the waiting area which is a nice quiet and clean space, TVs, couches and tables. There is complimentary coffee and WiFi, and a few stocked vending machines. There is also a free shuttle within a 5 mile radius. I was especially impressed by the kids' play area and dog water bowls, although I brought neither my kids nor my dog with me today. There was a sweet golden retriever also waiting with his owner right inside the waiting area. Subaru really is a dog-friendly company! Joe kept me posted with timely text messages during my service which I appreciated since I was on conference calls. He proactively notified and replaced stripped wheel studs that were found during my tire rotation. Car washes are also complimentary here which is a nice touch - Carlsen in Redwood City charges for a wash, while Putnam Burlingame does not offer one at all. After initially encountering some poor customer service on the showroom floor, I had the pleasure of working with one of the sales managers, Jack, who did his best to understand what had happened and asked how he could make things right. He apologized after our discussion, and spent the better part of the afternoon/evening finding the exact car I was looking for, an Impreza sport w/ 5-speed transmission (very rare, from what I was told). He was even willing to bring it in from Sonora, which is 3+ hours away. We agreed on a price that was fair for both of us, the car arrived the next day, and I have enjoyed it ever since. Despite the misunderstandings encountered during the process, I really appreciated Jack's willingness to be fair and flexible, two traits that are not commonly attributed to the industry. First of all my Sales person Steven Wu was great. Very friendly and responsive. Spoke with him almost 4 months ago and asked if he can match a quote I received from Carlsen (not beat it), he said my manger says we can match it but only on an ordered Outback, not in stock. Although I wanted a car asap, I thought ok the savings is worth waiting 3-4 months, so I filled out the order form. car arrives, and drive 45 min to come pick it up. After waiting all this time the manager Carlos tells me oh we can't do that price anymore. It will be 1k more. If we were to honor that price I have to charge you 3% more on your interest rate. HUH? Isn't interest rate based on credit score and the bank? Why are you marking up the interest? Couldn't this be disclosed before I waited 3-4 months? Carlos gave me this attitude like this was somehow MY mistake and said "do you want it or not? We can sell it to someone else for more money, last week someone else paid 6.99% interest." How is this relevant to the promise that was made to me? Anyhow I didn't appreciate this bait and switch and mainly his attitude, but was in desperate need of a car, so said look instead of the 1k, just give me like 50 bucks off the car as a "gesture" for breaking the promise, and lets do the paperwork. I took the car in to fix a recall issue. The advisor said it will be done by the end of the day and he will call to let me know. He never bothered to call. I called in and he said it will be done by tomorrow morning at 10 am. I came by at 5 pm and he said the car is still not ready. He did not bother to check on the status during the day and he said that he just found out. He again said it will be done tomorrow. That would be three days.... Customer service is really bad.
