Right of the bat, the park scores a 4.25. Its a city park, nested in the city of lake forest. And next to it, a horse stable park is visible and can be visited. There's a small kids park and a very lengthy inner trail that surrounds the park. Such a mixture of trails - from creek running, to wooded forest running, to open trails. Great for walks, jogs, running, biking and horse riding. The park itself is lengthy , visible and ample street parking quiet but well visited. As you exit north of the park, the trail jumps the street next to Edisons PowerPlant and continues towards portola highway and towards whiting ranch or portola hills. Crossing over a few underpass and a few parks along the way. Its a gradual incline, that will meet up with mountain trails. Only thing missing would be the water stations or bathrooms... unfortunately, be prepared. Great thing, ever so often your have a picnic table and benches available along the way. This trailhead can be as short as a 3 to 4 mile round trip around the park, but the trail leading out can be definitely extended beyond 15 to 20 miles if your a cyclists- as the incline can be gradual until you meet up in the hills. read more

This park is so peaceful - I love how you can explore the trees quietly. Even though it's next to a street, the trees do a pretty good job at insulating against the noise. Plus, you might see a horse or two (or maybe their poop)! You never know what else you might find - we saw a few human-made enclosures made up of larger branches and bark set up along some of the bigger trees. My toddlers were on a bear hunt and were fascinated by them If you're not into walking on dirt, there's plenty of paved trails around the area as well. Several dog walkers, a few bikers, but mainly nice people who are just enjoying the fresh air. There's also a bathroom and a playground. But with the toddler-led bear hunt, we didn't check the playground out this time. Next time! As for parking - plenty of street parking. read more

If your looking for a nice quiet park with walking trails - this would be a great choice - there it is in the middle of South OC surrounded by many many tall eucalyptus and a few palm tree's tucked in - you will find trails for you to walk on or walk or the dirt paths ( there are many choices - under the tree's where there is shade or along the little creek where you can listen to the babbling brook - you can't lose . You will be walking along and see others walking their dogs or horse lovers enjoying the trails as the trails have lots of horse dropping left behind ( doesn't bother me as I had horses growing up ) and love seeing them out on the trails . This park offers a small play area for younger children and it's shaded and has a bathroom near by but none further in the park . There are tables for lunches and very little grass area - it's mostly a dirt park with trails - for walking . We stumbled upon a couple huts made by the local Boy Scouts and wanted to share the pics with you . Hope you enjoy them! read more

Parking: There is street parking on Serrano Rd. (off Lake Forest Dr.). There's a cement path that winds down next to the Serrano Creek Ranch Equestrian area, past a playground and restrooms. From there, there are numerous cement paths, dirt paths through the Eucalyptus forest, and at least 1 trail that we could see along part of a creek. However, since I drove from the 5 fwy to Bake Pkwy to Toledo Way to Serrano Rd, I just parked on one of the residential streets off of it. Came on a weekend morning. So fun for kids to explore and to see all the horses walking by. We even saw a donkey. I love that this park is in part shade. The cement paths and even some of the dirt paths are god for strollers, but they are semi-narrow so if you don't want to be too close to passerby during the COVID pandemic, you might not like it. read more

This park is great for all ages. There are two play areas for different age groups, which I appreciate since I have a 4 and 2 year old. This location is also next to the stables so most of the time horses are walking by. When the kids get tired of the sand and play equipment you can always walk the park which is beautifully filled with Eucalyptus trees. Major plus...there is lots of shade for summertime. read more

I LOVE this park! It's my neighborhood and we walk it routinely. It's such a great Park to walk through. There are dirt trails and there's also a paved walk ways and there's more than one trail so you have options as you go through this park. When you're walking through all the eucalyptus trees, it's a complete canopy so it's nice and shady. That makes it nice on a really hot day and still want to get out and walk. There are benches in the shade also that are placed at different areas of the park if you want to sit and enjoy the views of the trees. Many people bring their dogs to walk and little kids too because it's so shady and tolerable of a walk when it's super hot. There are birds galore everywhere and sometimes you may see the occasional coyote but they never really bother anyone. At the end of the trail/park there are some horse stables and a kiddie park (also in the shade). There are picnic tables and BBQ pits for an out door party. If you go just beyond the horse stables, it takes you over to Bagels n Brew (the neighborhood hang out for breakfast!) where you can enjoy a nice breakfast or lunch. The other end of the trail brings you to bake Parkway. On the opposite side of the park there's an equestrian Trail that you can walk and it will actually take you all the way up to Home Depot in foothill Ranch if you want a good hike. That hike starting at Serano park round trip is about 6 miles. read more

Living nearby affords me the opportunity to walk the dogs through this park. Although it's a bit small in size, it's not real wide, but it is long. It's an excellent park to walk the dogs. More often than not you'll find people riding their horses through the middle on a trail I believe is for horses. The cool part about this park is that there's not a lot of grass, but there's lots and lots of trees. Although it's in the middle of the city, it feels so quiet and far away! This is a must go to if you want a change of scenery while walking your dog, or just walking yourself!! There's a small area for parties, and there's also a small playground for the kids. Hidden gem! This park is scenic and peaceful. It was fairly quiet on a Saturday morning except for a birthday party that was being set up on the tables next to the playground. There is a playground which is shaded by tall trees. One of my best experiences in a children's park as I sat there watching my son play in the playground amidst the sounds of birds chirping, the smell of eucalyptus trees and the sight of horses walking by. It was rejuvenating. Swings, slides and climbing structures are the main features of the playground. Needs a bit of maintenance as the foam floor was coming apart at one part Bonus - The horse stables are next door so you do see horses being ridden along the park. read more

By far the best place to walk your dog in suburban Orange County. We parked by the playground and started walking on the trails towards Bake. Once you get away from the playground you're on well-groomed (but not paved) trails with plenty of shade. You don't get tons of noise pollution from the streets so it's a nice peaceful walk. When you reach Bake you can turn around and walk back the same route or loop around and walk by the residential areas. Some Pros: Shade, plenty of trail options, good distance, decently groomed trails Some Cons: Can get a bit crowded As I said, wonderful place to take your dog for a nice long walk. read more

I think I have been spoilt by Irvine. This park opened in 1991 and it shows. It has definitely seen better days. I did come at 5pm on a cloudy day. so that added to the somewhat dank atmosphere. Pros - The park is paved and has lots of different pathways - great for strollers, kids on bikes, pulling kids in carts and dog walking. It's not a huge park, but more like a long strip of land with woody areas. It's shady because of all the trees. The play area has two structures, one for 2-5 year olds and the other for 5-12. The 5-12 wasn't very big and is probably more appealing to 5-8 years old, but it is shaded by trees. The 2-5 doesn't have any cover. There are swings for infants and older kids. There is also a really cool spiderweb/rope climbing thing. I haven't seen one of those for a while. The playground area is very nice. I would give it 4 stars. There are benches round the edges for parents to supervise from. Next to the playground there is a small concrete gazebo with one picnic table and another two table just outside of that. There are a couple of BBQs next to the tables. Slightly further up are the toilets, I didn't go in, so cannot comment on the cleanliness, but they exist. Behind the toilet there are a couple more concrete tables and a grassy area, but I wouldn't want to roll around on it as it looked a bit muddy. Cons - The park feels run down. The trees looked dried out, so I don't know if they get any water. There was horse poo in the middle of the pathway. Hardly any grassy areas, and the small bit they had wasn't very inviting. Street parking only, and boy do those cars come down the road fast. I was a bit worried as i took my 7 month out. So that could be a concern if you have more than one child to get out. read more

Really nice, wildernessy, dog friendly park! If you want to feel like you're going outdoors (not the green manicured lawn kind of park) but don't want to travel too far, this park is for you. The play ground at one end is so cool, it makes me wish I was young again. For the walking paths, on one side is Serrano creek, on the other side are tons of eucalyptus trees. There are paved and dirt paths (for horses, but you can walk them too) that mostly parallel each other, as the park is not very wide but it is long. The whole trail is about a mile long, but it feels way more fun (scenery varies) than the boring Borrego "trail". After all this time, we finally made it here... 'And it was nice; paved walkways, hiking/bike paths, horse trails and eucalyptus grove for a real rancho feel. Serrano Creek Park sits behind the Heritage Hills Shopping Center @ the corner of Lake Forest Dr & Trabuco Road. The park runs all the way to Bake Parkway lined with eucalyptus & willow trees along the creek. There seems to be two sides to this trail, the paved, roadside one and another on the opposite side of the creek bed. HAPA & I stayed on the paved, roadside of the creek, that snaked through and around the eucalyptus grove, an easy walk. Next time we may try the other side but summer time is flea & tick time so I hesitate venturing into the brush. Being that there's also a horse trail that runs through the center of the grove be careful where you step. Serrano Creek Park had a re-grand opening several years back in March 2008, after a yearlong renovation; it still looks good after nine years. The park has 44 acres of eucalyptus groves and winding sidewalks - is wedged between Serrano Creek, an equestrian center, homes and Rancho Canada Elementary School. During our visit, we saw two teenagers on the swings; a mother and her young son; two middle aged ladies walking the path; a few owners & their dogs; a lone, older gentleman in business attire on the phone walking the horse trail. I also heard a handful of teenagers somewhere in the brush not too far away; probably up to mischief as kids should be. (Just not too much mischief, all things in moderation.) Serrano Creek Trail is a 13.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail, it features a small creek; rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is great all year round. Street parking only; you have to walk down a small incline to get to the trails and children's playground. The only restrooms available are located halfway between the play area and the road. On my visit, I saw a single water fountain located about 50' from the restrooms, just across from the children's playground. A great aspect of the park is the viewing area of the children's playground area; benches available for parents to supervise and watch. Serrano Creek Park has a few nice picnic areas with grills. (Check for reservations @ the official city website) Park highlights: Rustic western setting near equestrian center; eucalyptus grove Artificial sandstone rocks for climbing There is a walking trail that runs the length of the creek all the way to Bake Parkway Renovated in 2008, the play equipment appeared to be in good condition You may see horses on the trail, depending on the time of day Note: Sometimes, there's a breeze that will carry the adjacent "stable scents" through the park Windy days can also be hazardous with falling debris from the eucalyptus trees (i.e. - Bark, branches) All in all, another great SoCal park. When I left Orange County and moved to Solano County for a the longest, two years I've ever had, I went through SoCal withdrawals. True story. (It wasn't so much the area as it was my situation but the two combined could lead a strong man to meth; thank god I only did crack.) One of the things I missed about Southern California along with the eclectic mix of restaurants and beaches were the great parks; HAPA missed them too. At Serrano Creek Park you won't find a lot of lush green grass commonly found @ most local parks but you will find paved walking trails, dirt paths, horses, and a nice, cool, eucalyptus grove. Now that I've found this park, think that I'll be here more often especially on sunny, warmer days which will be upon us soon. If you're looking for a nice place to take the dog out to, a place for the kids to burn of some energy, a walk/run, or maybe a bike ride, check out Serrano Creek Park; think you'll like it as much as we did. REVIEW OF THE PLAYGROUND AREA: This park is our go-to! It isn't too big but has swings (for littles and bigs), 2 play structures with slides, a giant rock for climbing, a rope climbing structure, a sand pit, and a good size shelter area for parties and such. Our 2 year old especially loves it when someone rides by on the trail with a horse. They always stop and let the kids pet and visit with the horses and one gentleman even let him ride on the horse for a little bit...he was ecstatic! No shade cover built over the play areas but there are large trees that create a good amount of shade. Super close to a shopping center and has never been overly busy the times we have been there (mostly on weekends). read more

This is a cute walking park with plenty of trees and shade that has a small creek, an open meadow of plants and wildflowers and bunnies galore. You will be greeted by adults on long walks, children in the playground area and folks barbecuing in the park. What a fantastic place! I didn't know this was 10 minutes away from my house and I am SO happy I found it. I took my dog for a walk here and he absolutely loved it (and was nice and exhausted afterward). There are so many trails you can venture down, with a nice mix of paved and dirt trails. I really enjoyed the beauty of this park! I love all the eucalyptus trees! I came here with my parents, my son and daughter-in-law and my granddaughter My granddaughter (3 1/2 yrs old) had a lot of fun on the playgrounds. It is a very peaceful place to go and enjoy with family or alone time. The one thing I did notice that I think needs to be addressed is the bathrooms!
