Canyon View Park - Parks Near Me - Aliso Viejo, California

Love strolling through Canyon View Park but only on weekdays. Parking here is nonexistent. You have to parallel park in specific areas and specific side of the street only. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood and it will be hard to park during the weekends. It's an otherwise peaceful area to walk around in unless you have the unfortunate encounters with unleashed dogs, shrieking children due to the two playgrounds, or inconsiderate people talking extremely loudly on their smartphones. Sometimes you will encounter all 3 and by then, the walk with my dogs are ruined. My one dog is extremely shy and timid so I frequently have to carry her back to the car with another pulling beagle in tow. No fun at all. The poop bag stations are inconsistently filled and the park has dog droppings hidden in any areas of the grass or sidewalk. So if your dogs tend to eat stuff off the ground, WATCH OUT! Mine tried to roll in it and I so didn't appreciate it. The park also leads to several different trails that allows dogs for some of the paths. It will be an extremely steep hill to climb up and down if you access it from the Canyon View Park side. Not for the faint of heart and be aware it has little to no shade. Bring water, and don't attempt to climb if you have sandals on. It will get your feet dusty and good pair of NB or Hokas would really help. In all, I think it's a decent park to go to, but not my first choice due to noise, dog droppings, and ease of access. Avoid on weekends unless you like crowds. read more

This is a good park as it's located in a residential neighborhood, however there can be more improvements to make it better. Some positives of this park include: 1. A lot of Aloe Vera/ other California native plants located in the area 2. There are two sets of Playground and other active installations 3. It has wide open spaces with space to play with others (e.g., Volleyball field) 4. There is an entrance to a bike trail (opportunity to venture to the canyon) 5. It's well-maintained and clean The negatives that I feel can be proved upon include: 1. Only street parking 2. One of the installations that visitors can use is hidden among the plants in the back which makes it less inviting to use 3. No bathrooms in sight (best to use one at your house beforehand) 4. It's still considered a small park as width-wise it's small 5. There seems to be only one entrance to the park via street (it would be helpful to have a more open and welcoming space) Overall, it's a place to bring your dogs and acclimate them to socialize with others. If you live in the area, bring your children to play or walk and take a few laps around the perimeter for some light exercise. read more

The setting is lovely. The park has a well manicured, adequately hydrated, green grassy area, a Portapotty and a trail that leads to the wilderness. Your only option is to park on the street that lead up to the park. We only walked a short distance as I was with a class on botany and edible plants. The first half mile had some wonderful plants to see and smell. There was also poison oak everywhere. We saw nettles, Toyon, white sage, black, sage, oak trees, watercress, mustard, and wild carrot. What most impressed me about the dirt trail was the number of mountain bikers who were poorly prepared for people on the same trail. Now mind you, there were people walking as well. But the speed bent bikers made the greatest impact. It was surprisingly loud, again the bikers, some on electric bikes, were loud and boisterous. And many planes flew overhead. There were gobs of birds and butterflies. Some insects. Not as much as one would expect. Sadly, I did not see a single lizard. I would like to return to walk further in to the beautiful landscape. We were there on a Saturday. I suspect a weekday would be better for this popular location. read more

We had about an hour to do a little hike so we decided to go to Canyon View Park Nice find! Speaking of park, you have to pay a $3 fee to park there, but it is what it is. There's an automatic kiosk where you pay up or pay the piper. They have a couple outhouses in the parking lot, so they've got that going for them too. The trails are very well marked and there are even signs on posts along the way where you can call in and take a cell phone tour! Way cool!! There are signs warning of mountain lions in the area, but fortunately we didn't see any sign of one. That's just fine with me. There are trails only for walking and trails where people can walk, bike or horseback ride. We were there on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't crowded al all. We just saw a couple people on the trail, both runners. We took an easy trail off to the east. My friend said if you take the trail that heads north it's a much more difficult hike. I might try it sometime and find out for myself. read more

Why, oh why in the world did they cut down all of the majestic magnificent sycamore trees at this park?!?!?! I cannot fathom why they would cut down what seemed to be at least 20 mature, beautiful, native California trees and replace them with invasive generic pepper trees. This park used to make my heart sing with joy! I am so saddened by whoever made this god awful decision. It used to be so lush, so serene, and really connected with the beauty of the trails in Aliso and Woods Canyon! When fall comes around I looked forward to the delightful crunch of the sycamore leaves for the children to play in, the oranges and yellows of the rustling trees, the sunlight streaming in through dappled shade lying beneath the branches, those memories are gone!! Now it's a scorching desert with bland generic! The beautiful birds and butterflies used those trees!! What were they thinking!?? read more

We found this gem in a neighborhood my trainer lives in. My husband has really been getting into calisthenics and they have a whole area for it! The best we have seen in OC. A pretty big grassy park with a small playground for the children and a volleyball net setup. There was one porta-potty that we saw, but other than that it seems to be more of a neighborhood park. We also love the fact that you can access Aliso and Woods Canyon Wilderness Park from here! It takes you right to Cholla Trail. A nice park to do mini workouts and maybe set up some type of Bootcamp? Also, a great perimeter to run!! read more

They have a beautiful hiking trail that really immerses you in nature, including a small trickling waterfall. Hikers and children and mountain bikers share it nicely. There's also a playground that accommodates both big and little kids. Nearby is a water bottle filling station, which is new. And volleyball courts and picnic tables for those who want to host a party. With a huge grass field connecting everything together. My only complaint is that the only bathroom is a small porta potty by the entrance of the park. If Aliso Viejo put a bathroom in, then this would be the best park in the city. read more

You could go up and hike the ridge to Top Of The World aka beach or stay low in the canyon through wood trails kind of like something out of Brothers Grimm short stories Perhaps just do a few loops and spot some wild creatures roaming around. This park is awesome because it serves as an entrance to Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park in the middle of a residential area! Just park on the streets by the park and take the big paved path for about 10 minutes until you reach the entrance to Aliso and Wood (you'll see a sign)! You enter Aliso and Wood from the northern end and you're presented with options to hike up to the ridge or stay down in the canyons. The hike in the canyons take you through the more secluded trails along the creek and is quite beautiful. Going up to the ridge, you'll see more people as you make your way towards Top of the World on the Laguna side. Anyways, come and park for free here to access Aliso and Wood instead of paying inside the park! read more

A local gem for hiking, mountain biking, running, or just getting out to enjoy nature. Parking fills up quickly on the weekends, but parking a little further up the hill or in the neighborhood won't kill ya! There's a gorgeous, well kept park at the front of the property, but if you keep walking on the pavement it'll lead you down to a gravel road which takes you into the Aliso Viejo Wilderness Park which houses a variety of hikes and trails. Canyon View Park is a wonderful place to come if you enjoy running, hiking, mountain biking, or simply want to go and commune with Mother Nature! Tip: There's very limited parking that fills up really fast on the weekends. If you don't mind walking a short way, you can park in the nearby neighborhood even on busy days :-) Canyon View Park itself is a very attractive, well-kept community park. If you start there and continue walking on the paved path you'll quickly come to Aliso Viejo Wilderness Park. There, you'll find a number of different hiking trails. read more

This review has to do with the play structures at the park. There is confusion -- sometimes this is called Canyon View and sometimes it is called Canyon Vista. The play structures here (as of 2019) are marked ages 5 to 12. On the Aliso Viejo Community Association's website and pdf document, the structures are identified as "Tot Lot." Well, not quite "Tot" here. Check for other local parks which do have age 2 to 5 structures. The overall condition is quite good and children will enjoy this construction. There is a modern "teeter-totter," and the climbing structure has different ladders, slides, rope climbs, etc. read more

This is a beautiful park not to mention it's also the gateway to the wilderness canyon and top of the world trails. I like Canyon View Park for many reasons. Great spaces, very clean, and well manicured. I always see little improvements in the landscaping which is nice too-shows where all our melo-ruse taxes are going ;) The doggy bags here are scented also. It's just a nice touch. The path that circles the park is wide enough for two to walk comfortable side by side, and it's also kept very clean. There's a small pavilion for people in the community to meet at, prior to their yogo, hike, volleyball, or church group meeting, among other activities. There are two volleyball courts and they're able to keep the sand inside and don't take up too much room in the over layout of the park. There's also a "body-weight" gym at the far end that covers a lot of exercises you would traditionally do with weight. My fiancé and I don't have kids but would imagine coming here for the playground, as it looks really nice. We do however take our dog here, and when no one is around or is looking- we take him off the leash and play long distance fetch! Canyons View Park is great, and I'm glad we live around the block! read more

I come here a lot since it's a trailhead to the Wood Canyon Trail. :) Great little spot! Parking can suck, since it's on-street parking on the side of a hill. But on a weekday or early on weekends it's not bad to find a spot. If you're a runner like me, beware of the bikes though - this is a really popular biking spot and there are always a ton of them! read more

This has got to be the best park in Aliso Viejo. It's HUGE! There a a ton of grass to run around in. There's a playground for kiddos. At the back of the park there's easy access to the wilderness trails. There are sand volleyball courts. There's even a workout station overlooking the canyon. This is a wonderful park to walk the dogs and meet up with other OC mamas. I enjoy walking for exercise so this is a nice place to do that.

This park has such gorgeous views. My dog and I haven't taken advantage of the trails behind it (unlike my husband who has), but the walk to the park and through it is great. It seems to be pretty well maintained and clean except the doggie poop bags never seem to be stocked. The parking is a hit or miss since it's street parking only, but if you are ok with walking a bit more, just park up the hill. There are certain times throughout the day and week where it's busier than others, but overall, everyone we've come across here have been nice. There was one incident where a gentleman had his dog off leash and was throwing golf balls for him/her, but we were leaving so it wasn't a problem for us. We will be back for more adventures here! read more

This park is in the middle of a residential neighborhood of condos, houses, and apartments. It's at the bottom of a huge hill and ALWAYS crowded for parking near the entrance. I do recommend that wherever you park, be sure to exercise caution as bikers AND drivers are flying down that hill at unsafe speeds pretty much all hours of the day. The park itself is REALLY well kept. Everything is green and we really don't experience an issue with dog poop. There is a park with swings and slides for kids and a workout areas for adults. The pavement for walking stretches on and on for a good sized walk long before you get in deep where you'd have to worry about coyotes and wildlife like others have mentioned. My fave is to come in the dark on a full moon. It's empty and just sooooo quiet and pretty ! read more
