A donut is $1.50 (*cash ONLY) , and there's quite the variety to choose from. I got the applesauce donut and while it was on the sweeter side, the texture was immaculate! I had surprisingly never been, we popped in around 10 am - still had plenty! This is definitely a locals/no frills spot. I had been craving a cinnamon donut - I got it! The long version of the jelly's were awesome, so much powder. I know the dogs loved their plain one! CASH ONLY! read more

Just the best! Don't just think about going here, go here! I've been in and out of here since 1996. Always wonderful smells and delicious donuts. Nikki is a fantastic donut maker, ask her, her story and you'll realize that she just took up this art in 2015 to keep the lights on and the family business going. Wonderful shop and proprietor. Funny thing. Though I've been going here since 1996. Both Nikki and I realized we didn't know each other's names until last week, when stopping in for some donuts and coffee I said "you know it's funny, I've been coming in here for over 28 years, as long as I've been married. You've watched my son grow up and given him donut holes for 20 years. We've talked about your son Dino, your husband and my wife but I just realized that we've never introduced ourselves to each other." She said "come on, we know each other". I said we do but we don't know each other's name. We looked at each other, she said "Really ? You're right, we don't, oh my gawd!!" We laughed, introduced ourselves for the first time. I picked up some wonderful artisan donuts (because they're more than just donuts) and said "See you soon" Great smells, great person, wonderful donuts. Stepping into Serres is like entering a time warp or strolling into a movie set. The diner booths and counter give off an old time feel, yet everything looks clean and brand new. Serres isn't the kind of place that refuses to change with the times, but rather, the kind of place that doesn't have to re-invent itself because it got it right the first time. I keep hearing that This place has the best donut in Syracuse, so I had to check it out. The price is certainly right- $1 per donut, less than $10 for a dozen. I ordered the apple cider donut & the peanut donut- both were delicious, but the latter was definitely my favorite. This shop has been around for 40 years, and I can definitely see why. It smelled so good the second I walked in here, I ask the woman behind the counter what's her favorite donut and she replies, " I make them all myself and I love them all." And you know, I trusted her and from what I've tried I believe they're all good. I ended up trying the peanut donut and the chocolate glazed. The peanut donut was so so tender and crumbly in a good way and the flavor was not like any other donut I've had before. It was vanilla-y and just really yummy. The chocolate glazed had a super yummy chocolate flavor that was perfect and not too dense or rich. They're light cakey donuts, not super heavy cakey donuts and they're perfect. This place is cash only and there's a small lot on the side perfect if you're grabbing yours to go. It was $5 for a large coffee and 2 donuts, so the pricing is also great here! The coffee was also solid :) Plenty of seats inside very old dinery vibes in a homey local way. Would definitely return. read more

I visited this humble and unassuming bakery for the first time this morning and picked out 2 donuts new to me - a peanut donut and a banana donut - from their 15 or so variety selection. Once home, I could fully appreciate each donut's size and heft! Half of the peanut donut was plenty for me with a cup of coffee. Most intriguing was how the crushed peanuts stay attached to outside of the donut - they were sweetened peanuts but not overly so, and the coating was substantial. The donut itself was a delight with a pronounced vanilla flavor and dense and distinctly not-greasy crumb. I'm hardly a donut person (pretty much the opposite actually), but I will go out of my way to pick these up for special occasions! read more

it was terrible, i got a donut and dry and brittle and there was flies all over. and in my donut box they gave me a have eaten donut and a cockroach inside of the box!! it was disgusting and it was so dry and brittle it crumbled all over my mercedes i wish i never went to this place ever! it was disgusting!! read more

Apple Sauce donut - My 2nd favorite! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I heard of this classic donut shop through the grapevine so I had to pay Serres a visit. All the donuts are made in-house and there aren't anything artificial about anything there. All the donuts are traditionally flavored and colored, they're all a dough color. I tried a sampling of 6 donuts and all of them were super delicious. I love that these donuts aren't overly sweet and they have a doughy taste to them. Super authentic bakery with magnificent donuts. mom and pop shop straight out of a movie. i stopped at Serres on my way home from Syracuse today, and I will definitely be going every time i'm in the area. The chocolate peanut donut was the best donut i've ever had (and i've eaten a lot of donuts). $5 for half a dozen. i'd recommend this place to anyone in the area who appreciates a quality donut. can't wait to go back! read more

Textbook definition of a mom and pop shop. Walking into the shop is like stepping back in time, perhaps on purpose or perhaps from it not being updated since the 70's. I point this out as a positive--it gives the place undeniable charm and character. This place is no frills, and so are the donuts. You'll get your standard cake with a few variations in toppings--like peanuts or coconuts. The glazed chocolate is to die for. Worth a stop if you're in the area as it's quick and cheap and delicious. Reminder, it's cash only but a donut is less than a dollar so scrounge up some change and stop in! read more

I love this place, they have the best homemade donuts around. The jelly stick without powder is my personal favorite. It's a family owned place and the woman behind the counter is always so nice and will spend time chit chatting with my niece when I bring her. Serres Donuts is a tiny little old-fashioned gem, tucked away in East Syracuse. Their donuts are so light and fluffy! A dozen of their filled donuts are only $6 - what a deal! Their jelly filled and boston creme's are my favorites. I go back to visit my grandmas each year, and stopping by for a box of their yummy donuts is one of my highlights. What a great hole in the wall. Seems like a great place to sit down, read the paper, and socialize with the regulars. A very hidden Gem in Syracuse. This donut shop is well worth the trip, but be sure to get there as early as possible as the donuts and other bakery items go quick and the owner only makes so much everyday. Anytime between 7:30am-8:30am you should have a very good selection of freshly made donuts that are easily some of the best I've had being from Washington DC. Also the owner is a very sweet woman who operates the shop everyday. Definitely give this place a try if you enjoy donuts!!!! read more

This is the real doughnut deal, y'all. I try to avoid sugar and don't get to the east side of the city too often, but sometimes my mother-in-law stops here on her way to our house and delivers a fresh batch to us. What am I going to do? Let these perfectly crispy, crunchy shells and crumbly insides go to waste? Give them all to my kids? What kind of parent do you think I am? I *have* to eat them -- especially the powdered and cinnamon ones, which are by far the best in upstate NY. The place itself is worth a visit, too -- a very classic, no-frills doughnut shop, with 60s/70s interior, lots of seniors drinking coffee, scratching lotto tickets, and talking about the daily news. I have really been digging this spot lately. The woman who owns this place is lovely and makes a delicious product. THere are a lot of chocolate chip cookies out there and I think these ones are some of the best. Not greasy, but substantial and good chocolate chip distribution and flavour. Try the apple strudels - yummy and nice tender but cooked properly puff pastry. A nice crisp top and perfect throughout. I'm looking forward to trying the homemade baklava next !! read more

Disappointed in myself for never stopping in here until now. Probably the best classic style donuts in Syracuse. CASH ONLY, however the women assured me that the $2 I found in my wallet was plenty. My fav doughnuts in Syracuse. Now if your into DD this probably won't be high on your list as nothing is mass produced and delivered by a truck. The doughnuts are more cake style. Not Krispy cream and that's a good thing by me. The lady that runs is place is super nice and the people there are usually pretty talkative read more

This shop sells 2 things: Paul deLima coffee and homemade doughnuts. The owner told me they've been in business for over 34 years with those 2 items, which speaks volumes about how well-loved this place is. The doughnuts are made absolutely fresh every morning by the owner. My favorite? The coffee roll - a big fat cinnamon roll just right for breaking apart and dunking in coffee. They only make 3 kinds of doughnut holes - powdered sugar, raspberry filled and cinnamon sugar - but you can't beat the price, 12 for $2.00. The service is very friendly, and I always feel welcome. This little shop with a private parking lot, nice! They are open seven days a week. We were greeted with a big smile by lady behind the counter. I'm guessing she's the owner. They has all these goodies, oh my! I wanted all. I got peanut, jelly and Bavarian cream filled, powder sugar, plain and jelly/cream donut holes. All is super fresh and really good. If you live in Syracuse or are visiting, it is a crime if you don't visit this little bakery. Homemade donuts and strudel at prices that simply cannot be beat. I wish this place existed where I live. We stopped here when visiting Syracuse on someone's recommendation and we weren't disappointed. Small local place. Cash only. Great donuts and good black coffee. And the proprietor and customers alike were all friendly. My sour cream donut was lovely, but I realized too late I probably should have ordered a jelly stick, as a gentleman who had come in from Tennessee said he came in just for those and bought two dozen. My go to is the cappuccino. To me is like judging a good Italian restaurant by how good they make a lasagna. To me, Kubal might get the edge over Recess for its distinct taste, but it's close, in the end you cant go wrong with either one. I'll give Recess the nod on ambiance, much more comfy and inviting. If you are bouyei with your coffee, give Kubal a try. It's a solid option.

I recently discovered Serres Donut Shop, and I'm so glad I did! This small, family-owned shop near my house has quickly become my go-to spot for donuts. The donuts are always incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor, with so many delicious options to choose from. The owner is also very friendly, making each visit even more enjoyable. The line to order moved quickly, employees were friendly, and our food was made relatively quickly, and we enjoyed our food - my only complaint was my bagel was a bit too toasted and crispy for my liking, but that's all preference and there was nothing wrong with the sandwich itself. We did think it was a tad pricey (over $12 for each for a bagel sandwich), but they were a decent size and were filling. We'd definitely return.
