I just moved here and am trying to find my place to get my bi-weekly cuts. I really wanted to like this spot. The staff was very friendly & professional. they have parking & the shop is clean with a great vibe. And it was easy to make an appointment online. Alas, the haircut was a miss. I asked for a low taper and was told I wanted a low fade, I did not know that entailed a bald fade with shaving my sideburns and beard completely down to the skin. I would think the first question should be "how much skin do you want to show" and "do you want your sideburns". The shape of the top doesn't even flow right, it's not at all what I wanted. It will grow back is the good news, but I don't have that fresh cut feeling :( My search in LA continues... read more

Today is the soft-opening of Wolf's Brew Co-Op Space inside Service & Supply Barbershop. They have plenty of parking inside The Lucky Corner shopping center (entrance to the shop is near a Wells Fargo ATM). Wolf's Brew serves great coffee (highly recommend a cappuccino with oat milk), 16oz cold brews, and limited edition tees with bad ass artwork. I can strongly say that I have never gotten a haircut that I have been satisfied with until I came to Service & Supply. You really get what you pay for when you come here. Before, I went to several different barbers (price ranging from $15 to $25) all with the same result - mediocre. At first, I thought it was me such as my hair, head or face shape, etc. However, ever since going here, my haircut is just better - flattering and the best version it was always meant to be. My face no longer looks funny after (you know the way when you get a haircut and it changes the way your face and head shape look). My girlfriend can attest to this and she no longer dreads when I get a haircut having to wait a week until my hair and face adjust together. I'm happy and she's happy too, which makes me more happy! Austin gently, yet firmly, seized hold of all the flaws and misdeeds in my hair and transformed them, shears in hand, into a masterpiece, like Alexandris' Venus de Milo. My hair, like a head of a steel scrubber, was reined in and tamed by a performance as eloquent the London Symphony Orchestra at their best. There is something that feels so good about a barber that gets you. I sat in River's chair and didn't say much other than "mid fade with a drop in the back." She really took everything from there. I have a pretty protruding occipital bone, my hair is thinning in one spot, and I didn't have to mention any of that. She brought it up before I could, and explained how she would cover those up. When it comes to barbers, I am rather picky. I'm my 33 years of life, I have only had three cut for to barbers. By far I must say Austin Rytchmire is hands down the best one thus far. This place is great, I've gotten my hair cut at both Venice and Downtown and I can say that the quality here is consistent in both locations. The vibe when you visit Service and Supply makes you feel very welcome and I've never felt more comfortable asking for recommendations on how to style my hair and for styling products. River was awesome and I can't say enough nice things about her. I hadn't had a quality hair cut for a while due to the pandemic and was expecting to have to buzz all of it but she was able to bring my hair back from the dead. Have been getting the smoothest cuts from Austin for a long time and when he moved to Service and Supply I joined him for the second time. I thought that the vibe at the last place was dope but this is another step up and is definitely worth the couple of extra bucks you'll spend here. It's an oasis of a shop. There's a barber shop, coffee shop, plant store, skate shop, and an art gallery all wrapped into this one space. The coffee is killer and of course if your just stopping through to get cleaned up with Austin, he always has some good whiskey for you on the house! Aaron has been cutting my hair in Venice for a while now and let me tell ya, he does a mighty fine job. I always leave the barbershop feeling like a million bucks. He cuts my hair just the way I like it; razor fade with a drop in the back and a nice trim at the top. Oh! I almost forgot, he trims and lines up my beard as well, he does it all. I have to start by saying I'm not a person to complain on yelp, and the space, the hangs, and the general 'vibes' of this place were great. Definitely feels high end and my barber was very nice and seemed like a good dude. But I came here under the impression it was a place where the person cutting hair would listen to what I wanted and not be more focused on blasting the latest Spotify Featured Hardcore Band of the Week. I specifically told him that I had kept my hair high and tight forever, was growing it out and just wanted to cut down on the poofy hair helmet effect, needed the sides and back cleaned up. I said this as a way to excuse that I didn't know the exact phraseology of what I wanted but I wanted it grown out, but I guess he must have just heard 'high and tight' and immediately went up the back of my head with clippers. At that point I didn't feel the need for conflict - nothing that can be done plus the fade is really clean - but I feel like an idiot for coming here to get the same haircut I could get for $25 across town at my usual spot. In 4 or 5 months when my hair is back where I wanted it I'll be looking for a place where it's a little quieter and the person cutting my hair can actually hear me. read more

I went to the Service At Kuarto and it was one of the best experiences I've had getting a trim. The space is well designed and beautiful. Alex crushed the much needed quarantine haircut. I was looking really raggedy and he was able to clean me up properly while still maintaining the length. The vibes were right and the conversations was engaging. Hard to find a place that can actually give you a decent looking fade, but look no further. Service & Supply's barbers are good with scissors and clippers too. Not easy to come by barbers that are well rounded enough to master both scissor and clipper work. I live near DTLA and I would drive to the Venice location because I loved the haircuts I would leave with. I've been going to them ever since they opened up and I wouldn't go any other place (regardless of the commute). I'm so stoked to have a closer spot with the same folks. The arts district in DTLA is such a cool place to hang out at and now I have more of a reason to be in the area. The best part is there is always plenty of parking.
