Those guys are horrible!!! I had been trying to book an appointment for the employer for weeks, and every time I called, they seemed bothered by someone calling and or a woman calling. Before I finish asking for an appointment, they tell me they are booked and hang up the phone before I get to ask when the next opening is. I even went in person to book that appointment, but they were unfriendly and unprofessional. I told the employer, and he is happy to take his business elsewhere. Luckily, there are plenty of friendly and professional barbershops in this area. I do not recommend you give your business to the Westerner. read more

Look, I love Westerns, and I wanted to love this place. But it's a mess. I made an appointment at opening time, but the barber was doing something in the back and poked his head in to say he would be right in. After 10 minutes, he comes in, but then beelines right for the bathroom. Another couple of minutes of waiting. When he comes out, I shake his hand, and it's wet. Who does that? You don't have towels to dry your hands? Come on. We started 15 minutes later than my appointment. As he's cutting my hair, I smell nicotine on his fingers so I guess he decided to smoke a cig before starting his day while making me wait. As for the cut, I had to lobby for cutting my hair a certain way because the barber said it wouldn't work. After a bit, another customer showed up and waited for a long time and even stood up and asked if he came at the wrong time. This isn't good business practice or considerate. The barber seems like a nice guy, but is timid and odd, and for a whopping $50 (plus more for a tip), I expected a lot better. He didn't even shave my neck, and, when I asked for hair product, he said that guys don't use it anymore. As far as the Western theme goes, it is more like an episode of Hoarders than a memorabilia museum. The shop has been there 9 years, I'm told, but it looks like they have never once cleaned the place. The rubber pads around the chairs are curled up and cracked, hair products are strewn about everywhere, and it's dim and musty. Just depressing and weird. Haircut was just okay. read more

Dont think its a rude question to ask i know alot of hair cutters dont like to work with curly hair so always call in and ask. Two reasons for writing this review... First and foremost, I've been getting my haricut from Ben for 5 years. He is the shit. I always get a great cut and beard trim, and he's one of the nicest dudes around. They always have some cool old western movie on the TV to entertain, and take the time to give you a quality cut. It never feels rushed and the prices are SUPER affordable. Secondly, there's idiots on here that have recently given bad reviews to the place because they couldn't just walk in and get a cut and were butthurt because Ben asked them to make an appointment. There's a reason you need to make an appointment - the place is booked solid because they have loyal customers. This isn't Super Cuts. Don't listen to the trolls on here that love to give one star reviews because it makes their self-righteous ass feel good. I love this place! Right across the street from Guisado's Tacos on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park! It's called the westerner because these guys love westerns with a passion, they play all western movies all day! Plus the shop is loaded from memorabilia from their life and stuff they've picked up along the way. No nonsense, good cuts, great guys, and they can normally find time to slot you in if they can. Nothing pains me more than writing this review and sharing my secret that Dane is perhaps the best barber in LA. I have a difficult head of hair (lots of cowlicks, a horse shoe of a hairline) and I'm no stranger to someone not knowing how to cut my hair. However, within five minutes of sitting down with Ben, I knew the search was over before it began. Total professional with his craft and bedside manner. I just got my fourth haircut from him today and not only does he give a great cut each time, he has also helped me strategize how to get the look I want, and cuts in a way that will help it grow in the desired style even four and five weeks out. He listens, works with precision, and doesn't try to project or sell you on something you don't feel comfortable with doing. Both he and Dane (who I was watching today while he was cutting someone else's hair, and feel confident that all the above can be said for him as well) are truly easy going gents, and just overall great dudes. It's definitely a man's barbershop (though they cut women's hair too) and its conveniently located right next door to Guisados! They take credit card, which was my gripe with Speakeasy, and the prices are definitely reasonable. The best thing is that whoever you get to cut your hair at the Westerner is great at their job. Every haircut I've had has been awesome, which puts me at ease. They can also trim your beard too.
