I walked in on a Sunday afternoon, and I was greeted promptly. I had to wait while one of the barbers wrapped up with the person in his chair. Then he invited me to sit in his chair. Then we chatted about the photos I had brought in to guide the style for the shaved sides of my hair. He took the assignment very seriously and sketched out some options using a white eyeliner pencil so I could see what he was planning before we committed to it. He nailed it and only charged me $30. Walked in today for an over due cut. I specifically asked for short and spiky on top and short on the sides. The barber was nice enough, I'm not going to review his personality. He was very polite. I did thought I was leaving with bruises on my head. A bit forceful. When I got home though, I realized I was almost bald on the sides and it looked like nothing was taken from the top. 2nd and last time coming to this barber shop. First time it was okay of a cut. But this second hair cut was pretty awful. I asked for a mid taper starting with a .5 and this is what I got. I came in for a cut last night and the whole experience was pretty terrible. My barber seemed in a rush and could not be bothered to make very basic small talk. While trimming my neckline he applied the clippers directly to the back of my neck. It was startling, painful, and unlike any haircut I've ever received before. In reading through some of the other reviews I see that a few people have had identical experiences. When working through the top he made six quick hacks and was done. There was no attention given to following the previous cut, which is what I asked him to do. He greeted me with a delicious beer and took me to the hair washing station to remove my hair product. At this point I have given him full control of my hair (which I never do. Disappointing experience tonight. Had one cut from them in the past. Was excellent. Hoped this could be my main spot. Made appointment for 8pm on a Thursday with Mike Garcia(?). Showed up. AC is off. Muggy. Mike has someone in his chair, and tells me has another client afterwards. He didnt greet me. I had to approach him to find out. I would have to wait 40 minutes for him or wait for the other barber who also had one in the chair and one waiting (not sure if this person waiting had appt or not). No one attempted to make it right, so I left. Huge lack of respect for others' time. Terrible way to do business. Lost my business for good. Glad I didnt pay for parking, which is difficult to find in dtla. UPDATE 8/9/21: Business owner reached out to me and apologized. I appreciated it. She is offering to make things right by me, so I will have an update on this in a month or so when I go in for a haircut. UPDATE 9/24/21: Business owner set me up with a haircut with Vitaly. The main reason I have been coming back to Bolt Barbers for about 3 years now is: Miguel. Miguel is an excellent and capable barber, a hidden gem at this place. He strives beyond what is asked from him and works with you to establish a relationship to find a look you desire. He asks a lot of questions on your needs and provides suggestions on what may look more appealing with the thickness of your hair, shape of your head, and overall look you are trying to achieve. He is also very friendly and responsive when booking appointments via call or text. I have been regularly coming back once a month for about 3 years now just from the outstanding service that Miguel provides for a fair price.
