I had my washer dryer serviced by one of there techs. 3 months later the repair burst, and caused $30,000 of damage. They sent out the same service tech and said that the washer dryer was "repairable." Who in their right mind would reinstate the same repair that caused so much damage? This company is a complete scam. I wasted my money. This was my experience last year under American Home Shield with Service Master: It's been over a month and the issue with my air conditioner has still not been addressed. It's impossible to reach anyone because who honestly has time to be on the phone for over one hour and a half to reach anyone with problems which are common occurrences. Oh but when you call the sales department, the phone barely completes the first ring before someone picks up. I guess it's just a part of their business model to reduce the amount of claims and complicated ones at that. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD IS THE WORST! Save your money. My hot water heater went out. They sent 2 separate plumbing companies who both indicated that my 22 year old hot water heater had to be replaced. AHS put my account in pending authorization and it has sat in that status for weeks. I call AHS daily and they tell me the same thing. And there's no way to talk to the authorizations department or to a manager. Today I was told that there are no managers working due to social distancing. 3 weeks and still no hot water. I have used American Home Shield for the past 20 years or so, BUT NOT ANYMORE! It used to be a great company but in the past 2-3 years, it has gone downhill. I reported a leak in my bathroom sink and they sent a plumber out the next day. He said that if I wanted the same type of faucet, that it would cost us $40 more. Aren't they suppose to replace with the same type? I declined. They supposedly ordered the faucet that same day, but it's now been a week and a half and still no faucet. Am reviewing the American Home Shield division of this company after our first experiences with their "service" this year. Our air conditioner stopped working on Father's Day and we were unable to get the air conditioning operating again only after ultimately bringing in outside vendors to replace our system - our chosen contractor came in the day we committed to their services and fixed it for free so we would be up and running while waiting for new equipment to be installed. American Home Shield makes it as difficult as possible for you to actually get in touch with someone who can help you...unless you threaten to quit them as I did. After several 45-90 minute hold times waiting to speak with a supervisor (we were told that they really don't have many supervisors working and that the hold time for one would be 40 min...ended up being 1hr and 45 before I called the contract cancellation number and got someone right away), and after being told after more than three weeks of trying to get the A/C working that they would not be able to cover the repair as they don't cover damage from wildlife or acts of God, we had had enough. Best part was the utterly incompetent, rude and unprofessional vendor they chose to use for our HVAC service (review on them forthcoming). Never encountered anything like them in my life - showing up asking us what was wrong or they can't fix it, not letting us talk when we would call and ask when they were coming (since they almost never communicated generally) and not actually doing what needed to be done to fix it after telling us that was the plan. We recall fondly the manager heard on the phone while talking to the scheduler telling him to hang up on my wife - unreal. We called multiple times asking AHS to change our vendor with no luck until (see above) we threatened to not renew our contract next month. Bottom line - AHS chooses the lowest of the low re: vendors (to save $$) and finds lots of ways to avoid fixing your problem (to save $$), after you give them a year's worth of your money. American Home shield, it's going on 2 weeks with no resolution on my broken water heater. They cant even get their contractor on the line to turn in the repair recommendations. Marine corps veteran, pregnant wife and 4 year old son. I can survive without hot water, my family needs it. I even offered to pay out of pocket and have them reimburse me and I was told NO. I have spoken to 5 agents and 3 supervisors over seas. They all failed to turn in the "special" email to contractors relation and unfortunately they cant transfer me to contractors relation. My insurance company requested their intervention without asking me and they currently have my furniture and will not make a payment plan to give it back. I never signed any contract with these people. The contract was with Travelers Insurance. They lie and say that I signed a contract with them when I did not. They have all my personal items that were in my desk and even a lap top computer which they packed up and took without my knowledge for storage . We have been trying to get the accounts payable department on the phone for weeks. They don't answer their phone, and they don't return voicemail. If you do get someone on the phone (it's from an unrelated department), and they can't help you and they won't transfer you to a supervisor. They'll submit a ticket, but still nothing gets done. This company is a total fraud and a waste of time. When you call AHS you get Service Master hmmmm, and all you get from them is excuses but they didn't have any excuses when they were deducting my payments every month. I am writing about American Home Shield, as is everyone else. There is nothing masterful about the "service" that these guys offer. Just look at Twitter to find out how many others are discontented with AHS's poor service, lack of follow-up, and low quality of contractors that they are fine with using. I mean, I guess if I were a disreputable company, I'd use someone of low quality as well. Easier to loose the less persistent claimants with those types. I called about my hot water heater, which sporadically heats water. I found out later that the company they called (Aaron's Plumbing) had 8 1-star ratings on Yelp. And I am finding out why. Once the "plumber" who came out submitted his paperwork - three weeks after the fact, and only because I had called AHS multiple times - he had to CALL ME. Call me. To ask what it was he had worked on at my house. Wow. I paid them $125 for them to come out. And once he submitted, did AHS call me back and follow up? Nope. I had to call them again. For the fifth time. I am currently on hold for a supervisor and have been for the past 25 minutes. Why am I holding, do you ask? Because if you ask a supervisor to call you back, they won't. Sigh. Live and learn. I am posting this for the next poor sod. I hope you read this before you shell out the $4?? for the policy and then another $125/visit. And FYI the contractors only get some $30 per visit, so if I were them I'd perform poorly as well. read more

I am sad to live in a country in which a company with this complete lack of responsibility or morals preys on the best intentions of homeowners. I have received the WORST customer service I have ever encountered in so many ways. They employ non-culturally competent call center representatives, whose interactions are completely scripted to the point that I would almost rather speak with a machine (not really, but it's that bad). They disconnect calls, as others have noted, almost as a matter of practice. They do not allow ANYONE to speak with a supervisor for any reason. They do not return calls to deal with issues you have raised. They cancel service, do not let you know when you have scheduled your day around said service, then lie or are otherwise incompetent when confronted with this glaring issue. They charge their service fee then lie about why they won't cover an issue that is clearly within the scope of the contract under "Improper installations, repairs, or modifications" saying that Chicago Code trumps this. Even when the electrician's work order/invoice and verbal confirmation is that improper installation was exactly what had gone wrong. This week, I have spent at least eight hours on the phone, none of it was helpful in any way other than raising my blood pressure, stress level, and generally removing any sense of well-being I have with the world. On top of that, I had a technician out today for a second opinion, which American Home Shield mandated, and even though he submitted his report in the morning, have received no follow up about my broken AC in the middle of the summer. The next day, I called AHS to inquire about the status of the second opinion, and their response now is that there is no record of a technician even visiting my home yesterday! Are you kidding me? When I ask either party (the technician who was giving a second opinion, or the home warranty company) for more information or one bit of transparency, what do I get? Either crickets or, "it's against our policy." This leaves the consumer with absolutely no power or recourse other than to post reviews on this and similar sites. I so dearly wish I could resolve my issues without resulting to these avenues. Here's to wishful thinking: never based in reality, so it seems. I just called the contractor (again) and the person I spoke to said reported to AHS that a second opinion was required, that they cannot figure out what is wrong with my unit. The contractor was called for a second opinion! This is not even an opinion, it is just passing the buck. It is also contradictory to the technician's clear verbal diagnosis which he shared with me in person. Now I call AHS, who calls said contractor, and now give me a contradictory report, namely that the contractor claims no one never visited my apartment! What?!!! I scheduled the visit myself and was here during the entirety of it, after which the technician says he will submit his report immediately, saying there are leaks that cannot be repaired and the unit needs to be replaced. Apparently he did not. Or his manager did not send it. Or they falsified it. Or American Home Shield did. How do I have any basis in what is real in this context? Now I am on the phone again and the AHS rep says Super Appliance Man says there was a part needed. Now she tells me AHS put that in erroneously. This is, by design, a mind----. If you want the ANTITHESIS of what a warranty is supposed to provide: peace of mind, a safety net, ability to relax about having reliable appliances and home systems, choose American Home Shield, the ANTI-WARRANTY! UPDATED: To their credit, Servicemaster issued me a reimbursement check for the installation of my dishwasher. I still worry about staying with a company with a broken process such as this. Formerly American Home Shield. I have been an AHS customer for over 15 years, for my own home as well as several rental properties. AHS has been a very fine company up until recently. Over 6 weeks ago my dishwasher needed help. Tech said it needed to be replaced. That's when the circus began. It apparently takes a village to replace a dishwasher. First the tech call, then the delivery appt. They left the new unit in my garage, and AHS said I needed to arrange an electrician to hook up the wires and a plumber to hook up the water lines, using their contractors. Did that, but as I questioned said contractors more I found that none of them would pull out the old dishwasher and set in the new unit. 5 calls to AHS, each taking over an hour of wait time, and each time getting a different story as to how to get my dishwasher actually installed. Finally I realized today that AHS was not going to be able to put this together. I canceled the contractor appointments and hired my own person to replace my dishwasher. Something is seriously wrong with AHS to allow this to happen. I suspect the buy out by Servicemaster has much to do with it. It's a shame to see the oldest and highest rated warranty company go downhill like this. Their customer service phone system is woefully inadequate, anytime night or day. They apparently have no ability to coordinate a simple dishwasher install. Their own reps have no understanding of the complexities involved and each time I called I got a different story. They are not knowledgable nor helpful. One person told me to contact the company that fulfilled the dishwasher order, Express Home Service, to arrange for the R & R, but Express Home Services told me they only install Bosch. Sheesh! Can you imagine how hard it is to arrange to be off work for 5 different appointments, and to spend 6-7 hours on the phone? This has been an utterly ludicrous experience! They were notified of an A/C issue in May 2017. It is January 2018 and the unit still is not working. I have had to call to multiple times. I know they outsource the work to a local contractor, but they have dropped the ball on this one. American Home Shield (AHS) or most people called them American Horror Story has done nothing for me or to assist. This A/C is for a 81 year on male who had to endure the summer weather while all of this has been going on. The wait times, the rudeness, the apathy of AHS is awful. Every Customer Service rep says that they will get it resolved, but we are still waiting. I dropped them on my rental properties several years back because they would not pay. If I could give 0 stars I would! They have not always been this way. I have been a customer for years. They now have no care for the customer. The system they have in place makes them money but leaves the customer in the lurch. They do not honor their end of the bargain. I have been on hold for 4 hours in the past 2 weeks to get nowhere in getting the appliances in my home fixed. My washer has been broken since July 3 and no one ever came to even diagnose it. My air conditioning went out during a southern heat wave. I have a child in my home with a heart condition. I was told that the request would be expedited. It was not. They tell their customer service reps to tell you whatever will get you off of the phone. The company I work for manages several single family homes. Whenever we need to deal with American Home Shield it is a nightmare. I went online today to open a work order for a broken AC unit. However, because someone had gone out there 4 days ago we could not open a new work order and was directed to call customer service. When I called I was placed on hold for over 45 minutes. This whole secretive deal scares me to death! I took out a Home Warranty with American Home Shield. Had no clue what name the company was under; put in AHS on Yelp and you get nothing. After my cancellation check came in - it was ServiceMaster, 150 Peabody Place, Memphis, TN 38103-3720; NO PHONE LISTED ON ANYTHING; just vendor; date and contract number. I called AHS to ask how I can review them on yelp; the caller said is that all you are calling about and told me I have to find that out on my own and hung up. All the non-information should make everyone reading this very leery of doing business with this group. WARNING as to what happened to me. Had PVC pipe over my living room window dripping and had never seen that before. Liquid was dripping onto my windowsill and bricks causing discoloration and dampness. I called my home warranty company, AHS, and asked that someone come out and tell me what that drip was from and was that a problem? They sent out an A/C man Just One Call no uniform; no name on the truck but said his name and he had been sent out. I showed him the pipe that concerned me. He did or said nothing but let me see your A/C? I had no clue at that time what or why but did as he asked. Up in the attic the rep said taking off the face plate this is going to cost you $480 and I said, "No it isn't." I said send me a picture of what you are looking at and gave him my cell phone which he did and you see an older A/C unit. My A/C worked fine before the call and fine after the call and nothing was addressed as to the dripping PVC pipe. Finally he put the face plate back on, came downstairs and wrote up a bill for $300. He stood around quite some time and I am trying to call AHS and can't reach anyone and the guy that comes out wants to collect my $100 deductible AGAIN which I had already paid. I felt coerced into paying this bill which he later crossed out $300 and put $240; I gave him my credit card and stated paid under protest. I told him I needed to contact the warranty company first but my impression was he wasn't leaving without some sort of payment. I immediately called my local police department who sent an officer out; I explained what had taken place and the officer advised me to not pay the bill; call my credit card people so they could withdraw the funds. I did this and spoke with the repair co the next day and the Home Warranty who informed me the way this works is to get the ok from the warranty company before any work is done. Again, to get the ok from the warranty company before anything is done which did not happen. The repair person shared with me in the attic that he had done time in jail or prison and how the system works is he gets 50% of the bill and the company gets 50% which told me right away why the first amount was $480 before looking at anything. I got a text from the repair person asking for a good review so I told him I filed a police report. I get a return text of you slimy piece of shit, etc. and stating my security cameras won't help or words to that. I went the next day and filed another police report. I asked AHS for all my money back subjecting me to someone such as the person the company contracts with to send to my home. I received a $45.09 refund from AHS cancellation plus my deductible refunded and I can tell you the stress and this on going battle with the $240 bill that now I am advised by the bank that I must pay. I said it was worth the wasted $$$ to write what had taken place with my call. Senior Abuse also came out; after I am billed by the credit card people I will write any and all agencies I can think of to describe what I was made to encounter. I deserve a full refund for the "no service" or "scary service" from American Home Shield; total premium. Do Not Do Business With This Company; Secretive Name; No phone Number on the Check; AHS does not show up on Yelp; I had to go to a lot of trouble to look this group up and was stunned at what I found out. Servicemaster owns American Home Shield. I had a very bad experience with AHS. My region experienced a heat wave over several days in late June. Temps ranged around 111 degrees during this period. Though I had my AC unit serviced 10 days earlier, it failed on 06-22-16, during the night. I promptly submitted a service request online. The screen showed a status of "Unavailable." I went to bed and checked online in the morning. The request status was still "Unavailable." I called in, waited 40 minutes, and couldn't wait any longer. Hours later, after another 40 minute wait, I reached a human. Response: AHS would need four days to deliver service. However, due to record high temps, I qualified for emergency status. If I could get a repair firm on my own, AHS would pay. The agent then transferred me to another line so I could get a more detailed explanation. I waited 20 minutes for someone to pick up and then hung up. I had other urgent responsibilities. Eventually, an AHS rep called and left a voice mail confirming that I could opt to get my own service firm, as long as it was bonded and licensed. I simply needed to call back and confirm that was my choice. I found a licensed and bonded firm that would come promptly. It made the repair - replacing the 10 370 capacitor and 1/2 HP 1075 OFM (fan) within a few hours. I tried calling AHS again, but couldn't get through. I then tried the AHS chat window so I could report that I had gotten my own repair firm. That took 30 minutes. The chat rep then explained that I had to follow a procedure that I would receive by email momentarily.It requires that the independent firm call AHS and get its approval for the repair and estimate, then put the AHS authorization # on its invoice. 1) The repair was already made. 2) Independent firms don't have time to wait on line for 40 minutes or more to obtain an approval. 3) The independent AC repair firms I called wouldn't come out if I admitted to having a home warranty. It didn't matter that I would pay them, myself. I had to lie to get service promptly. The service provider that made the repair has a BBB rating of A+. AHS only gets a B rating from the BBB. In fact, the BBB reports that it contacted AHS about the high level of complaints regarding its poor service on 7/22/2015 and received assurances that corrections were being made. The corrections, if made, weren't sufficient to help me. I simply can't understand why AHS chooses not to deliver good service. It is clearly a choice. Created a service request for our oven as it was malfunctioning and beeping intermittently. Vendor called to arrange visit yet insisted malfunction was to occur during visit. As this was intermittent, that never happened and he never even came to our house. They closed the service request and did not do anything for our oven. Now our oven is non-operable. I have been an American Home Shield customer for 20 years but NO MORE. AHS was decent until a couple years ago when it was bought out by ServiceMaster and the customer experience is now unacceptably bad. There is no integrity, no follow up, and no sense of customer service. Service calls take WEEKS. Their call center has average holds of 45+ minutes. The call center staff is poorly trained, rude and refuses to put a supervisor on the line. Supervisors do not return calls. The contractors used to be good and reliable. Now it's a really mixed bag and some were 1-2 star rated. I've had issues with every service call for the last 2 years and did not get them resolved without escalating to executive relations. My hot water heater had 3 repairs in 1 year and each time I was without hot water for at least a week. Because now thanks to ServiceMaster, AHS will only approve band-aid repairs instead of adequately resolving the issues. Replacing something is a joke. They used to replace with the same quality appliance but now their options are all cheap, low budget choices. Expect to pay at least $1000-3000 out of pocket for "installation fees and modifications" for any major appliance. ServiceMaster took what was a decent company and turned it into a nightmare. No wonder BBB has 96% negative reviews and Facebook has groups called "I HATE AHS". It's a shame to cancel a 20 year old policy but it is happening. read more

American Home Shield has perhaps the worst Customer Service I have ever experienced. Mr. Haynes, CEO, has transformed the "service" to digital primarily thus no Personal service! BEWARE! I submitted a request for service on my central air conditioning on Sunday morning, June 19, via the American Home Shield (a subsidiary of ServiceMaster) website. I received an email confirmation with the contractor name immediately. I could not find anywhere in my contract how soon the contractor would call to set up an appointment so I called them midday the next day, Monday, June 20. After telling me "I shouldn't have called; I should have waited for them to call me," the contractor set an appointment to send out a technician on Tuesday, June 21. The technician showed up within the promised window of time and was pleasant and seemed skilled. He diagnosed the problem as a broken fan, fan cage, and possible motor and said he would report it that day and HE advised me to call American Home Shield (AHS) to get a status update in 24 hours. I called AHS yesterday, June 22, and after a 30 minute wait on hold was told that the contractor had 48 hours to submit a report and had not yet done so. It is now 48 hours and after seeing the status as "Unavailable" on the AHS site, I called back and after a 20 minute wait on hold, hung up and attempted to use the online live chat where I chatted with a Jan R. who told me no report was filed, and asked if I knew what the diagnosis was. I told her and she said they would typically not have to call AHS for approval for a minor repair. She promised to call the contractor and have them call me, but could not connect me with a supervisor or tell me when I could expect to hear back, nor explain why the rep I spoke with yesterday did not give me the same information nor reach out to the contractor. I must admit great frustration that in the middle of June in Chicago where temperatures have been and are approaching 90+ degrees again, there appears to be no urgency in getting this fixed. I have paid hundreds of dollars in monthly premiums since I signed up for this service and now $100 in a service call and I am facing the prospect of another long weekend or longer without air conditioning. This is unacceptable. I am a young widow who signed up for this service as a measure of security in keeping my older home functional and safe. I have been defrauded by their ads and harmed by their lack of service. This was my first experience making a call for service with AHS and I am terribly dissatisfied and planning on cancelling my contract and looking elsewhere for faster, more affordable help. I want them to make this claim right first. I am disappointed and disheartened that a company I chose to trust is not helping me "worry less and live more" as their ads and on hold music say. It is inconceivable that a company that has such a strong advertising campaign, and is part of a huge conglomerate like ServiceMaster, Terminix, Merry Maids, and more cannot service their clients more quickly or efficiently -- or seemingly at all. read more

I've had American Home Shield for years. When our water heater went out and flooded our house, I called American Home Shield who sent of their "preferred plumbers" out to look at my water heater. The guy shows up looking like he just got out of jail, reeked of smoke, and spent fifteen whole minutes looking at the water heater. All he says is, "Yup, it needs replaced. I'll turn it in to American Home Shield and be back to replace it for you." Two weeks later, he hasn't been back. He doesn't answer his phone. The whole time, we're without hot water and taking cold showers. I called American Home Shield back and asked just what they planned to do about our water heater only to find out that he hasn't even turned in any diagnostics! They sent a second plumber who was top rate. He swapped out the water heater and corrected a couple of incorrect install issues that I had on my water softener. American Home Shield approved everything except for a few parts, which was fine with me. Well, guess what? Now, we have to pay all of the bill because American Home Shield stiffed the plumber that THEY sent out for work they APPROVED! When I called them, they stated that upon closer review, my claim should not have been approved for any labor, installation, or disposal fees. They claimed that they were only responsible for the tank itself and nothing more. "Had we used one of their network providers," the woman on the phone claimed, "they would have covered more, but since we did not, we're on our own." They sent the guys. What a joke. I should have known because, unlike AHS's "preferred provider," these guys were clean, professional, and didn't have the gagging smell of month old ashtrays and marijuana wafting off of their clothes. Still, they sent them and approved their invoice before they even began work! They claim to protect us against expensive repairs then stab us square in the back when we file our first claim in almost a decade. They've definitely lost a customer here because I could have easily saved money by having the tank replaced myself with money left over considering that I've paid well over $5,000 for useless coverage that doesn't cover anything at all. read more

There is no "service". I pay $600 a year, plus $100 every time "service" personnel comes out to allegedly help, and according to the website, make sure I am "relaxed". Typically the service person comes to tell you why you they will not fix your appliance because you have somehow "not maintained it properly". This is what you pay $600 a year for! We maintain all our items, and they will usually tell us our maintenance people "broke the appliance or did something to make it unserviceable". Which is there way of saying "thank you for the $600 a year plus $100 for visit". Stay away at all costs. read more

Servicemaster American home warranties. I had a warranty with them. When you try to call him on the phone you will be waiting at least 30 min before you get to talk to someone. I tried to make several claims most of them were denied. When I called about my hot water heater they sent out a company called Greenway home services. First person they sent out was a complete idiot. It took three service calls and me going to the corporate office to get them to change a $15 part on my hot water heater. In my opinion their home warranty company is absolutely horrible company. Don't waste your money buying a warranty from them. read more

Is there ANY possible way known to man to get American Home Shield out of your life? I get close to daily email solicitations for AHS and have selected to "unsubscribe" more times than I can remember. It is supposed to take no more than 10 business days to be removed from their mailing list, but that is evidently not the case; AHS emails are the gift that just keeps on giving come hell or high water, If every appliance that I own broke down on a daily basis, I wouldn't consider using AHS simply because of the irritation that they've brought to my life. And my attitude doesn't even reflect the actual service dis-satisfaction noted by the vast majority of victims that actually subscribed to the "service" plans. read more
