Fried foods are the worst, as their golden crispy crunch can quickly become oily and soggy. Roasted foods aren't much better, as they begin to dry out as they sit. The only things that preserve well are soups and other liquid-based foods, as they are kept the proper temperature while still maintaining their original quality. As such, my experience with the buffet at Borinquen was decidedly mixed. Things like the lentils, beans, and this fish and potato stew were nice and interesting, and I was even able to catch some fried fish as it was coming out of the oven that was enjoyable, too. The fried plantains, on the other hand... not so much. I'm left with an impression of a restaurant that certainly has what it takes to offer some good Puerto Rican food, but the talent is being squandered by the lunch buffet.
