We were later told "whoops we forgot to mention it" and "it's their minimum fee." If there's a $300 minimum charge for a stupid simple job customers should be told upfront. He arrived promptly to give me the estimate, and I told him we would like to go ahead get the work done. First, he told me he would be here on Thursday and it would be a 1 day job. On Thursday, late in the morning, I called him and asked him where he was. He told me we had an appointment for Wednesday (the day before), but his other job ran late. I didn't ask him why, if that was true, he didn't call me on Wednesday and tell me he wasn't coming. Anyhow, at that point he told me he would be there on Friday (the next day). On Friday he called me and told me he couldn't make it because he "had to take his wife shopping and forgot about the plans they already made together". He told me he would come on the next Tuesday. So, on Tuesday he didn't show up. In late morning I called him and asked him where he was. He told me the forecast was calling for rain later in the day, so he could either come and do the inside stuff today (Tuesday), and finish the job on Friday, OR he could come on Friday get the job done or finish it on Saturday. I told him to come today and get started because he already postponed on us a few times and he has our deposit. He arrives later in the day and removes the old chimney liner. He dragged our wood stove onto our hardwood floor with a piece of plywood under it, by HIMSELF. So you can imagine the scratches on my nice wood floor. He leaves all the crap from my chimney in my garage and leaves a total mess! And says he will be back on Friday. On Friday I sit and wait for him. At 11:00 he is a no show so I call him and leave him a message. At 12:30 I call him again and finally get through to him. I ask him where he is and he tells me he needed to order a part and it should be here in 5 days or so. I compose myself and ask him politely and professionally why he didn't let me know that, because I had to take a day off of work to wait for him. His answer is "I don't know what to tell you, maybe you should just find someone else to do the work". So here I am, with a mess in my living room, a mess in my garage, a 600 lbs wood stove in the middle of my hardwood floor, and he still has my deposit. Not to mention he wasted 3+ weeks of my time so there is probably no possible way for me to get this thing repaired the right way this winter. My suggestion is to stay as far away from this company as possible. ***** UPDATE 9/25/17 ***** I see the owner of the company finally replied to my review 2 years after I wrote it. It is quite an amusing story but almost nothing he is talking about is true. I honestly think he has confused me with another customer that he has screwed over. He doesn't even have my name correct. Not even close. First of all, there was NO refund. That is a blatant lie. I never asked for a refund after he walked off the job. He certainly didn't send any sort of a refund. I will admit that my stove pipe and lining was in rough shape. But that is why I called him. Not too sure why this is such a surprise to him. I was the one who hired him so I don't understand where he thinks I was upset with my wife for her ordering the service. Again, he is obviously confusing me with another customer that is not happy with him. I was very professional and pleasant with him. But I did tell him I was not happy that he quoted us for a 1 day job and it was incomplete after 2 weeks before he walked off. I can understand reasonable delays but this guy would continue to schedule us and then not show up. I have a full time job, and so does my wife. If I take a day off (or several) to be home because he has scheduled us, and then he doesn't show up or call, that is an issue to me and I don't mind telling him that in a professional manor. HE was the one who was unprofessional and unreliable. He left a mess in my house, dirty pipes and crap in my garage (that he was supposed to dispose of), and major scratches in my hardwood floor. Anyone in Yelp land can read all the reviews and make up their own mind. I have no reason to lie. I got nothing out of this deal but a waste of time, money and a mess to clean up. In the end I had to hire another contractor to finish the job and he did an outstanding job.

(I've decided that there are some things worth getting done,in this case a well maintained chimney that prevents fire,maybe the loss of my house or life.) Anyway we we were NOT happy with the other Company/people who swept our chimney the last few years so we decided to go with Chimney Chap even because of their reviews I used them because my neighbor bragged about how good they were.They were competitively priced for a sweep. Jim (the owner) and Rick came out today between the window of 11-1 they showed up at 11:20, both were polite, thorough, clean, and very nice people. They did a thorough job of cleaning, explained everything to us and we were comfortable having them in our house. I made sure I sent pictures ahead of time and also confirmed twice ahead of time that they had the ability to clean the ceilings. They showed up with a small ladder a bit bigger than a step stool. The ceilings were not cleaned and still have lots of cobwebs. We paid $550 for a deep clean- the bedrooms were left with all beds unmade- windows and floors were not done. My poor mother in law trusted me to pick a good company and we were left to clean after paying a high price for cleaners. Others in the area quoted around $330!! I give two stars because they did a great job in the downstairs bathroom. That being said- that's the room they started in so I think the mojo was lost after that. Again- we asked for a deep clean and got a light dusting. Very disappointed -atleast they were very nice whenever we had interactions !
