They teach random things like book binding techniques and how to silkscreen. Every tuesday night they have an open studio from 6:30-9:30 where half of the time is usually spent working on some artist's project like a limited run artbook or a zine or some such thing. The rest of the time you work on your own projects and the regulars teach you how to do everything and let you use Booklyn's supplies like paper, binding materials, and huge fuck-off guillotines from 1962 that are for cutting large amounts of paper but have no discernable safety features. Everyone brings snacks and beer and hangs out like the commie hippies they are(good thing). and it's generally the coolest thing I've found in this crazy city. Did I mention there's a Banksy on the dumpster outside? Come check it out on a tuesday night and when you're done come with me to the bar next door where ski-ball is 25 cents a game and they have guiness by the pitcher. Damn Greenpoint, you keep this shit up and I might quit my job and start squatting in a nearby warehouse...

I knew he was capable of achieving higher grades but he was never challenged. The decision to transfer him to The Beekman School is one of the best investments I could ever have made for his future. Headmaster Higgins and his professional staff welcomed my son and provided the kind of attention only available in small class size settings. The educational staff helped my son realize his true potential and his grades soared. My son actually looked forward to waking up early and going to school because he thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff make you feel like family, and although my son graduates this year (with the highest grades of his academic career) I hope to continue the relationship as my daughter hopes to attend as a freshman this September.

The Assistant Principal Nancy is wonderful she returns calls promptly and has an open door policy to parents who are interested and involved. My sons teachers Miss Joanna is the nicest calmest person I have ever seen she is a true living angel. His therapist are patient knowledgeable and made miracle progress with him. The only problem for me is that most of the parents in the school are Spanish speaking and i am not so I couldn't set any play dates with my sons school buddies due to language barrier. This entailed leveling (sorting books by genre and grade level), moving computers, painting and organizing the library. City Councilman Robert Jackson was kind enough to pay us a visit. He mentioned that the average income for a family of 4 here is $34,000 annually. This I believed, for on our way to the school, while we were running, a brotha purposely nudges into me so he drops his 40oz and blames it on me. His elderly cohorts instigate hinting that their friend should jump me or get reimbursed or something. We were already late to the school so we continued running. He chased us down one block until we said come run with us to the school. We have no time for this right now. I have a friend in Merrick and she didn't have to bring in half of what I did and their schools are better. I called the district office to see why, they said we live so close to the queens border, they have a lot of parents trying to come over. So your idea is to invade our privacy. Apparently the tactic isn't working because the school is still over-crowded. That is not my major concern. If this school was located in the city in a low income area, then I would praise this school, but it's not. It's in a town where the residents are paying an average of $6,000. in taxes whether we can afford it or not. The school does just enough to try and satisfy the parents. Keep your game night and all the other crap and teach them chess, piano etc...I take my children to the museum, we talk about favorite books. No not all parents do it, but it's not because they don't want to, they don't have the time. They are working hard trying to pay off the home's TAXES. So my child should be coming home telling about all the new and exciting things they have done. Instead i see the same old stuff i see in every underprivileged school. Just so you know, they seem to spread out all the problem kids, so your child will be in a class with a child that's known to punch, slap or hit other children. What does the principal say ??? LET ME KNOW IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN AND WE WILL REFER THAT CHILD FOR COUNSELING. Ok, that child has been like that since kindergarten, exactly when will he be referred. Just don't go there and believe it compares to the best in Long Island, it's grazing the bottom and will stay there until and overhaul is done.

I find the staff in the administration to be extremely caring, responsible and attentive to the children and parents that attend our school. The administration is extremely generous with providing all of the materials that the children need so that they are able to progress and achieve their goals. The classrooms are Colorfully decorated and have all the materials that one would typically find in a preschool classroom. The children, receive their special therapy services, according to their mandates.
