We were able to get to Sette as we were visiting in Morristown. As we searched found this highly ranked Yelp reviews. We set up a 9 pm reservation. We arrive and the place is tiny. Actually a 2 person show. Either MGR./owner greeted us and offered where to sit. The venue is small and quaint. It is BYOB and the waitress came back to open wine and offer sparkling or tap. We started off with the gentlemen recommendation of bruschetta. It arrived and it came out warm. My wife was ok with it. Me I liked it. Next up we split a bolongese tagliatelle pasta dish. A perfect mixture of Veal, beef pork was hands down one of the best bolognese pasta dishes I have ever had. I am first generation Italian and have been blessed in my home. Their bolognese was special. My wife had the chicken dish spinach and potatoes. She liked it thought it was a tad sweet but did like it. I had the pork medallions with potatoes and spinach. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. My pork was a tad sweet but mixed with the potatoes and spinach was terrific We ended up with a lemon dessert that came out warm and was delicious. In addition had another raspberry dessert from establishment and that was delicious. The place is small well lit pretty windows to view. The other patrons were all enjoying their time. No drama and couldn't ask for better patrons. The waitress was excellent and my wife and I truly loved this place. We will be back keep in mind reservations are needed. We were fortunate to score on a Friday. Their are nine tables why reservations are needed. They also offer a prix fix just in case and is reasonable. My husband and I were invited to Sette by another couple who are big fans of the restaurant. We were very excited and thankful for the invite as a place like this can be a little out of our range. The food is pricey for sure, but the food and the experience is certainly worth it. We had reservations for 4 for an early Saturday dinner. We were greeted as we entered and seated right away. The dining area is small so obviously reservations are highly recommended. Our waiter was super lovely. He introduced himself to each of us at the table and asked us some questions. We brought wine and drinks with us and he was very helpful opening everything and keeping our glasses full. For an appetizer we ordered the Burrata and Bruschetta. Both were excellent and a great way to start our meal. Before we ordered our dinner, we were greeted by the manager (owner?) who introduced himself to each of us again and told us the specials. I decided to have the Tagliatelle al Ragu and my husband has the Cosciotto di Pollo. My Tagliatelle was amazing! I loved the pasta and the sauce was so delicious! It wasn't too much pasta where I felt disgustingly full afterwards. It was the perfect amount and the sauce was surprisingly light. My husband loved the chicken thighs he ordered and highly recommends it. Everything was so fresh! After our dinner we ordered a few cappuccinos and desserts. My husband and I shared the Creme Brulee and Panna Cotta. Both again, absolutely delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert when dining at Sette, you won't regret it! My boyfriend and I have now been to Sette twice in the past 6 months. Both times we have left with rave reviews. Ambiance is intimate. Very few tables and they book up quickly on OpenTable so be sure to make a reservation a few days in advance if you're trying to dine here. Also note that they are BYOB. We have tried multiple dishes as we opted for the prix fixe menu both nights we dined here. Here are some of the highlights: Insalata Stagionale, Pennette Alla Norma (probably the standout dish to me), Cosciotto Di Pollo, Maialino Brasato, Crème Brûlée, Panna Cotta. Everything we have tried has been amazing. I truly don't think you can go wrong here. They were very accommodating of my allergies to nuts on both nights. The only thing I couldn't experience was the bruschetta that they bring to the table as the bread has sesame seeds, but I heard that the bruschetta was amazing so I was sad to pass this up. All in all, I felt very safe with my allergies. 10/10 food. Probably the best in the area. This personally ranked higher than Ristorante MV in terms of food, but ambiance isn't as comparable since MV down the street is more crowded/happening than Sette. Wow. Haven't been here in years. Came in with a friend for dinner and all my expectations were exceeded. I am a tough cookie, very particular and did not know what to expect. Service - impeccable. Extreme attention to detail. This is a small (as in 7-8 tables) dining establishment so with this small of a service you know they must meet the mark every time. We started with an order of bruschetta. Not the typical. Small warm bread with a nice thick slice of a ripe tomato / parm, mild garlic and olive oil. Delicious bites! Appetizer: Cavolo Bianco e Gamberetti ( Wild Gulf Shrimp, Braised Savoy Cabbage, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Parsley Velouté). This was so different from any shrimp app you would order in another Italian restaurant. The cabbage was so buttery and the shrimp were good size and perfect taste and texture. You look at those ingredients and think how does this work? But it was a masterpiece. Main: Tagliatelle Al Ragù (Veal, Beef & Pork Tritato, Organic Vegetable Soffritto, Parmigiano Reggiano). Think refined bolognese. Incredible bursts of flavor in what is such a simple dish. Dessert: Millefoglie Calda (Warm Pastry, Lemon Pasticcera, Wildflower Honey, Almond Gratinato). Perfect end to this meal. The pastry was a warm crunchy crust with this little bit of heaven in a lemon filling. Each dish was a perfect picture, and great detail was given to the menu and ingredients. It's been a while since I have left a restaurant and immediately made plans for my next visit. This is a bring your own. It is also not a pizzeria / trattoria or your neighborhood Italian restaurant. This is truly fine dining and you will not be disappointed. read more

The food here is truly amazing. Through our daughter a baby shower here and the experience was amazing. My guests raved about the food. My sister even made her own party reservation after the shower. My wife and I absolutely adore this quaint, romantic, small, family run Italian restaurant. Intimate lighting, delicious food, impeccable service and an overall wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately we haven't booked a reservation for Sette in awhile because although the menu is fantastic, it's very small and the limited offerings have remained stagnant for the past couple years. The menu has literally not changed at all. A restaurant of this small size, and caliber should implement a rotating seasonal menu. Please consider bringing back the chef's tasting option; we really want to return and try some brand new delicious offerings. Sette is a BYOB, fine if you know your Italian wines, as I do [I'm a wine importer and wine journalist]. The regular menu has many tasty Italian dishes, and the host is attentive and knowledgeable. Sette means "seven" in Italian, and you couldn't go wrong by ordering a 7 course meal here. The portions aren't overwhelming, and you would have a memorable dining experience if you did. Allan is the ebullient owner, and the family is Sicilian. The owner's father owns a separate restaurant in Somerville, but we haven't dined there yet. If you want to enjoy a wine with dinner but don't know which one to bring, go to Gary's in Bernardsville. They have one of the best wine selections in the state, and also sell wine accessories and gourmet food. The cheeses at Gary's are fantastic! [I wrote a book on cheese] We dined at Sette several months ago, with friends that share our passion for Italian wines and food. Such a great dinner spot! Came here with a two coworkers and were blown away by the service. Our waiter gave detailed recommendations that turned out to be delicious!! I got the ragú as my main meal and loved it, and the cabbage/shrimp appetizer was what especially surprised us with its flavor. First time at Sette and certainly will not be the last. My boyfriend and I were greeted by the staff at the door and brought over to our table. The restaurant had a very lovely ambiance with very tasteful decore. Once we were seated we received our menus and got recommended the prix fixe meal. We started off with some delicious bruschetta made with a freshly baked baguette. Our prix fixe meals consisted of an appetizer, a pasta dish, an entre and a dessert plus some really tasty cappuccinos we ordered on the side. Not only was the food immaculate but the presentation...chefs kiss! The service was all around prompt, efficient, and friendly. As our date night was coming to an end we were greeted by the lovely owner Allan who thanked us for coming and asked about our experience. F-I-N-A-L-L-Y went to Sette tonight only to find out that they've been open for 10 years which made me feel even more guilty for taking so long to get there! My guilt turned to complete elation because of many reasons. It began as soon as we walked through the door of this incredibly inviting and intimate dining room with a quaint 8 tables in two separate rooms. We sat at lovely two top at the front window. We received the house bruschetta which was divine in its simplicity and the quality of the ingredients, especially the olive oil, was clearly evident and we were excited for the dishes to come. Then we met Allen Russo, the Proprietor of Sette who proudly welcomed us to his restaurant. He stayed and chatted for a bit and made us feel like we were in his home. Our appetizers soon arrived and they were beautifully executed and incredibly delicious. We had the Sformato Di Cipolle - Lazio Warm Pastry Soufflé, Caramelized Vidalia, Parmigiano Reggiano Whip and the Cavolo Bianco E Gamberetti - Toscana Wild Shrimp, Braised Savoy Cabbage, Nutmeg Aromatics, Parsley, Extra Virgin Olive Oil We shared the Tagliatelle Al Ragù - Lazio Veal, Beef & Pork Tritato, Vegetable Soffritto, Parmigiano Reggiano It was perfectly balanced and the pasta was joyfully al dente with just the right amount of chew. Our entrees were equally enjoyable. We had the Brasato Di Maiale - Lazio Pork Tenderloin Medallion, Parma Prosciutto, Juniper Berries, Rosemary Aromatics and the Spigola Alla Piastra Di Ghisa - Sicilia Mediterranean Sea Bass, Cast Iron Seared, Sicilian Grape Tomato Ratatouille. The food offerings at Sette are everything I look for in an excellent restaurant....few ingredients, minimally handled with a great respect to each ingredient. Just had an absolutely fantastic meal at Sette. This is a small, upscale Italian restaurant with not many tables, but you can tell that this enables the restaurant to really get the details right. I would definitely recommend the off-menu bruschetta, which was on some fantastic house made bread, which reminded me of the amazing sesame seed crusted Italian bread we would get back in the day in Brooklyn. All of the food was excellent, but I was especially impressed with the depth of flavors on the pasta dishes. My wife said her pasta with sausage and rapini was one of the best shes ever had. This food is average at best. My boyfriend and I decided to dine here for Bernardsville Restaurant Week as we have been wanting to try out the restaurant. If we didn't do the Restaurant Week menu we would have easily spent $50 more on what we got so the pricing wasn't terrible. However, the Burrata was not Burrata but was merely fresh mozzarella with no creamy filling. The tagliatelle pasta was decent but at a regular price of $34 I would not be ordering this again. The pasta was not freshly made pasta and the sauce was lacking. I've been to establishments where the pasta is handmade and the sauce is the most delish meat sauce I've ever tasted for half this price. read more

We went to Sette in Bernardsville for my birthday today. We got the prix fixe meals. The meal was awesome but the service was not so great. Had to ask for water and our byob wine. When it came to dessert, we asked if the coffee was included. The waiter said yes but it was not included. We asked for coffee but my husband got espresso twice after requesting regular coffee. The coffee there is so strong, we couldn't even dilute it with cream. Needless to say we couldn't drink it. When we got the check they charged us $10 for 2 coffees. We feel they should have taken this off the check like we asked them to do. The Prix Fixe meals were $85 each. I was really trying to like this place and recommending it to everyone. read more

Sette. Where to start? This is a tough review because, depending on your tastes, this restaurant could be a "9" all day long, or it could be a place that you never return to. The issue is the menu, or rather, the brevity of the menu. There is not a lot of depth of selection, and surprisingly enough, there are no specials (at least there weren't on the Friday night we ate there with friends). In our group of six, we had two more picky eaters, and both kind of struggled with finding something they would like. In both cases I think the ultimate choice was determined more by process of elimination rather that a genuine interest in their particular entree choice. I, on the other hand, do enjoy most foods, although I still was not really thrilled with my options. There were a couple of pastas that were mostly unappealing to me, fish that was equally not exciting, a roasted chicken thigh, and a grilled lamb. I ended up going with the lamb - not my usual choice. So how was the food? The bruschetta that we ordered for the table was really excellent, and not your usual glop of chopped tomatoes and onions on Italian bread. This was a savory bread, seasoned to perfection with thinly sliced tomatoes. Really very good. I had a Stagionale salad as an appetizer, and it was also really excellent - fresh greens, apples, raisins, almonds nicely dressed with a vinaigrette dressing. I enjoyed it a lot. Each person was also served a small roll, and they were excellent as well. I am not truly a huge fan of lamb, but my lamb chops were very tasty, almost filet mignon -like, with just the right amount of char and seasoning. The meat was excellent, tender, and expertly prepared with thinly sliced garlic on top. It came with sautéed spinach and a handful of small potatoes. My significant other had the Risotto Amalgamato, which featured mushrooms and was infused with black truffle oil. It's was good enough to be served as dessert - decadent, moderately heavy but not too heavy, and filling. She took home about 1/3 of her portion (and it was great the next day as well). Around our table we had more lamb (everything seemed pleased with that) and the pasta with eggplant. We all opted to skip dessert, mostly due to a lack of interest in the dessert menu. So here lies the paradox of Sette for me and this review. Was the food that ordered all delicious and fresh? Absolutely, 100%. But will I go back? Hard to say. Probably not. Restaurants like Sette usually have "living menus" that thrive on daily specials and options. That isn't the case here, and from other reviews it seems that this was never the case. I'd love to see a broader selection of fish especially - perhaps a snapper livornese? The caliber of the cooking here is top notch - it would just be great to see more of it. The quality of food alone cannot be the only factor when doing a review, which is how I came to a 3/5. On the subject of the restaurant itself, it is exceedingly small - but not what you would call intimate. It's cramped, very NY style. With only eight or so tables, make a reservation early. It is a popular place in Bernardsville. One more small point - the wait staff is not up to the level of the restaurant. The waiter gave wrong information about one of the dishes, and they got in the way while servicing a few times. So should you go there? Well, take a look at the menu. If anything jumps out at you, then I would say go for it. Chances are it will be wonderful. It's BYOB, as well, which of course helps control the bill if you are a wine drinker. If on the other hand you find the menu to be as cramped as the table, then you may want to check out Bistro 73 down the street. You might also try Foccacaria in Liberty Corner, which is on par with Sette. read more
