Ate here at the behest of my old friend. I was agreeable enough to his predictable suggestion (I knew it was either gonna be Thai or Italian), as this location is approx. halfway between where he lives in Mendham and where I live in Basking Ridge, it is familiar territory to both of us, and I wasn't feeling like I wanted Italian. Still, there was a part of me that thought, "Y'know, there's an Afghan place near me that would be interesting to try," and "I've read about a Turkish place in Warren that would be different," but my old friend is conservative to the core (in politics, in dining choices, and in all else) and I wasn't in the mood to try and "coax" him into expanding his horizons a bit and trying something a little novel, a tad exotic. My oldest friend? He would have gone for it in a second with enthusiasm ("Afghan? Never had it; let's give it a go. Or we could try...say, are there any Georgian or Romanian places near here?"), but he was in Florida for the holidays with his girlfriend. Me? My old girlfriend is long, long gone (as I think I mentioned in another review, our 1st date was at a Thai restaurant, and way back then, Thai seemed enchantingly "exotic" to me, and I thought picking Thai for our first meal together would make me seem more like a "man of the world" in her eyes), and I'm stuck in NJ in the company of my old friend (nice guy with a good heart, but...as I've said...predictable), whose idea of "exotic" or "thinking outside of the box" when it comes to cuisine is trying a new Thai or Italian place, as opposed to eating at the same old Thai or Italian place we usually wind up at. Although we haven't eaten here together before, my friend is familiar with Ricky's and seems to know everybody working in the place very well. Perhaps not surprisingly, staff was very friendly and attentive. (Although, let me hasten to add, staff was just as friendly and attentive to the other patrons dining here.) There weren't many people in the restaurant, but then we were eating fairly early (another symptom of old age? Probably). As I might have stated in other reviews (I've reviewed a few of the Thai places we've patronized together over the years), I tend to order the same thing in whatever Thai place I happen to find myself in. Not because I'm limited (at least in terms of openness to new dishes) or because I'm lacking a sense of adventure, but because my stomach has become increasingly unstable over the past few years, and consuming fiery hot food can end in disaster for me. And Thai cuisine is noted for often being fiery hot. Clearly, I wasn't thinking when I ordered the Tom Kha Gai soup with chicken. It was clearly marked as being "fiery hot" (with a red pepper symbol alongside its listing on the menu as an added emphasis) but I've always found it to be delicious and satisfying in the past and I think I desperately wanted to recapture old pleasures and forget about the shaky state of my internal physiology. However, the "heat" of the soup, slurped down with enthusiasm, soon brought me back to harsh reality. I remarked, "Wow! I had forgotten how hot this is!" My friend said, "You can ask them to tone down the heat for you." Yeah. Too late now. (Let me be clear that I in no way blame the restaurant for the state of my unstable stomach; it was excellent soup, but I knew I was going to pay for it later. And I did.) I then ordered, as I usually do (who doesn't think "outside the box" again?) the Mussamun curry with chicken, served with jasmine rice. Very tasty. My friend ordered duck noodles, and he let me try some of it. Wasn't familiar with the dish, but the forkful I had was delicious and overall, the plate looked like it contained a plentiful portion of food. Next time, I think I'll give the soup and the curry...as much as i really like them...a rest and order the duck noodles instead. Neither of us could resist the coconut sticky rice with mango for dessert. The mango was fresh, sweet, and refreshing. Not too heavy, which alleviated my guilt somewhat at deviating...only momentarily, but still deviating...from my sometimes draconian diet. Prices were fair, service was above average, and food was of a superior quality. Definitely recommended. read more

I had the chef special noodle soup several times with a variety of different noodles and I highly recommend it! It's creamy and savory while still having that spice and flavor. It has eggplant which fits so well with the other veggies and broth. The orange chicken had real charred oranges that were cooked into the sauce which gives it a real orange flavor, super high quality with an abundant amount of rice! Please check this place out on Uber Eats there has been a good sale! It's an elevated take out spot that isn't over the top nor the standard. Service was kind and had a family vibe. read more

I would never order from here again! I ordered drunken noodles, which were incredibly greasy and not well seasoned. Furthermore, I got egg rolls, and as you can see there was a bug in my dipping sauce. Absolutely disgusting. read more

Don't be fooled by my 4 star review...Ricky's Thai was excellent, but I reserve 5 stars for truly exceptional dining experiences. We had never been to any of the Ricky's Thai locations but have heard great things so we went to the Newly opened Bernardsville location last night. The staff warmly welcomed us and everyone was very friendly. The decor was bright and comforting and not overly ornate which we really liked. We had 4 dishes and each one was very good. 2 of the dishes are Chef Ricky's Signature dishes. The appetizer called Honey Puffs (signature dish) were tender and buttery Puff Pastry filled with Crab and Mushrooms and beautifully pleated served over a delicious Lobster based Curry sauce. We also tried the Nom Tok Beef Salad that really hit the mark. An item of note on this dish is one of the key ingredients is Toasted Rice. I'm used to the toasted rice being more of a powder but here it was a bit more coarse and my girlfriend opted out of trying it when she heard me crunching down on it to protect some recent dental work she had done. I must say I very much prefer the powder form. Next we had 2 entrees: A very well balanced Pad See Ew with Tender beef. The noodles were intact and not broken into little pieces. The second signature dish we had was the Tamarind Duck. Perfectly symmetrical thick slices of boneless Duck breast coated in (I'm assuming) Rice flour and individually fried to a wonderful crisp. They were served on a bed of Crispy Rice noodles (same noodles used in a Mee Krob) with a sweet and tangy Tamarind sauce. This was a delicious, well thought out dish! We are so happy that there are 2 locations within 15-20 minutes in either direction from where we live in Warren and we will be back to try more dishes! read more

Loved the food at Ricky's Thai. The Drunken noodles ( pad kee mao) was great, w chicken and shrimp and a bit spicy. I love flat wide rice noodles and these were cooked perfectly. We also had Tamarind (crispy boneless) duck with rice. Both dishes were delicious and we even had leftovers since big portions. I think this is my fave Thai in the area. We've been fans of Ricky's Thai for years and tried this location for takeout today. The online ordering system was easy to use. They offered us a free item upon checkout which was a nice touch even with reasonable prices. We got to the restaurant early and our food was ready. And what a delight to see Pam running the show! Pam has been a front of the house staff member of Ricky's and Thai Kitchen for many years and always takes good care of us. I couldn't recommend a better person to see to a fulfilling dining experience. Oh yeah, the food was amazing as usual. We had beef & chicken satay, and two different kinds of curries (quarts of curry!) and our cousins got noodle dishes and everyone age two and up enjoyed their food! read more

We use this restaurant a lot for takeout. Online ordering very easy and with lot of customization including spicy level. The quality is always consistent. Portions are generous and prices very reasonable. Definitely a restaurant that deserves more traffic. read more

Food had no heat or fresh chillies. Pad kra pow was just a stir fry, not ground meat, no egg. Portion was also very tiny. Mostly onions in huge pieces. Super disappointing. Owner was grumpy at pick up. read more

Not sure what went wrong with another neighborhood Thai place, we had ordered last year and it was ok and comparable to Thai places but yesterday was a disaster. Had ordered fried calamari, ground chicken cakes/cutlets or Todd min gai kinda thing for kids and red curry, green curry with shrimp pineapple fried rice. Nothing tasted good, flavor was missing big time, the Thai basil barely tasted fresh. I did a takeout order so the order was ready in 20 mins, they have a buy one get one free deal but then I was told only with Uber eats, at the store I saw if you order online you could get a discount, no one cares to say that. Most of the the items are 1-2 $ more that "theThai" place in bridgewater area, which has much better tasting food. Kids took a bit of the chicken cakes and did not want it anymore, fried calamari was palatable. My curries will need some mending my me, and thanks to the big pile of sticky rice, I'll make my own fried rice. Another Americanized Thai place without any unique flavor. Bernard's twp and surrounding areas are unfortunately such a food desert with not many good places I could go, and need to drive to bridgewater and Somerville for anything other than Italian food. Very inconsistent. The first time we delivered here we thought it was great but the last two times we were very disappointed. We just ordered two soups (hot & sour and tom kha gai). They were both extremely watery with no taste. The vegetables in them were completely raw and uncooked. One of the soups also didn't have chicken as ordered. Very disappointed. read more

They are very reasonably priced and portions are generous, you definitely get your money's worth. The staff welcomes you when you enter and they don't hesitate to explain a dish if your not familiar with it. You can tell they appreciate your business for sure. Tried take out for the first time, and will do again. We especially appreciate the ability to order the spice level on each dish. So for the first time at a new-to-us Thai restaurant we always order our favorites, green papaya salad and chicken Pad Thai. Both were excellent. Our spice level is pretty much a 1, enough to give a bit of zing without aggravating out aging digestive tracts. Will try some curries next. We live in Morristown, our favorite Thai restaurant owner retired (Sirin Thai) and will be driving "all the way to Bernardsville" for Ricky's. read more

Lovely, authentic food! So much better than the awful place that was there before. Threw their food out.... I live the fact that the people I spoke to are THAI! The woman who took my order was delightful and even brought the large order for six to my car! The subtle taste of the food, the smell, all evoking my trips to Thailand. So far, I can order food without heat/chilies and the rest of my clan can choose the opposite -- Have yet to find good Indian that has those options. First time here and as a Thai food lover, I have high expectations. This place exceeded those expectations with delicious curry special with the right amount of heat (and four different condiments if you want it spicier), the best peanut dressing (on the Thai salad) that I've had in recent memory, pad see ew that was super flavorful and steamed shrimp dumplings that were the perfect taste and texture.
