They could improve everything. Came in with coworkers during happy hour, hostess said she could seat us as long as we were done by 7:30. First our waiter kept getting distracted by waitresses and took forever to come back to us even just for simple drink orders. Forget about ordering food. Since we were in happy hour we ordered a ton of apps, so disappointing. The food was nowhere near the caliber ridiculous cost. The crab tasted old and like drinking ocean water, the ribs were dry and the shrimp app came with 9 small/ med shrimp for $20. My martini was okay the first round and then the bartender kept adding soda water for the next two. $20 smoked martini was smoked for literally 5 seconds. Then we get our check, which is completely wrong and over charged so if you don't heed the warning, check your ticket. And then to top of the extremely slow service and mediocre overpriced food, the night ended at 7:10 when the evening hostess came over and loudly announced we were only able to be seated because we promised to leave by 7. Okay this place exceeded our expectations. Seven Doors is located in The Colony, neighbors with sporting goods store Scheels. Parking on a Saturday evening was a bit of a drag but I don't blame the biz for that. Ambiance: New American vibes. Clean restrooms and overall area, and the restaurant is huge. We were visiting for a birthday dinner and there were about 12 adults at our table. We were seated at the bar area and the bartender (kicking myself for not getting their name) was our server. Cocktails: The bartender made some delicious cocktails and I thoroughly enjoyed my lemon drop martini. The smoked old fashioned and espresso martinis looked good. The food: Okay I'm so thankful our server recommended we start with the Korean bbq beef tacos but instead of tortillas, get them on top of the truffle fries!! Omg we were not ready for this good of a time! Delicious! Tempura calamari was also fantastic for a starter. We could've stopped there but who am I kidding? I loved my chicken penne alla vodka. Seven Doors was a very good dinner decision during my Plano trip! There were a lot of options to choose from that I didn't expect but I loved that they offered from the usual salads, burgers, steaks, to sushi, prime rib, etc. So it's a very diverse menu and should have something for everyone! We never felt like we were waiting long for anything or went a while without of waiter checking on us which is always a plus. He helped recommend a few good appetizers which we did get: burrata and a sushi roll! My espresso martini really hit the spot! Not too strong, but still that great taste I look for. I went with the short rib for dinner which was pretty good! I usually go for a safer option but thought I'd try something different and was overall pleased. The dessert was the real winner for me! We were originally headed to another restaurant where we had a reservation, but after struggling to find parking we ended up walking a bit farther and passed by Seven Doors. Their sign advertising a $20 steak and cocktail on Thursdays caught our attention and quickly changed our plans. We walked in around 6 PM and were seated immediately, which was a great start. We later learned that the Thursday steak actually rotates weekly. This was something mentioned in smaller print in the advertisement that we didn't initially notice. This week's version ended up being steak skewers rather than a traditional steak. To her credit, our waitress gave us a heads-up before ordering and mentioned that feedback had been mixed since some guests were expecting a larger cut of steak. While it wasn't exactly what we had envisioned, the dish was still tasty, solid, and reasonably priced. The old fashioned drink that came with it was also very good. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I really appreciated the transparency from our waitress. It definitely helped manage expectations and avoid surprises when the food arrived. We LOVE this place. We used to live nearby and stop in three or four times a month! We have since moved from that area. Monday was our Anniversary, and we were going to be in the area, so we added it to our HH evening. I asked the server what happened, it's always "tall" (or erect - lol) and better cooked. He gave me a terrible look... so I said, "Well, I won't eat that, can it be cooked a bit more (thinking there's no way they'll re-cook)? I have ordered this many, many times, and it NEVER looks like this". He took it and didn't say anything ... While all this was going on... the Bartender NEVER checked on us. She was clearly busy preparing for the evening--running around doing things. She had previously brought us two appetizer saucers and one Napkin/silverware--just dropped it--didn't say anything. My husband asked, "Did you already get silverware?" I said, "No, I will ask when she comes by.". Meanwhile, ... the food comes... we wait ... no bartender... no one! So, she (bartender) drifts by with a few rolls of silverware in her hand. I say, "Excuse me, may I have one of those?" She rudely says, "I was going to bring you one..." So - somewhere in there, she never returned, but there was now a man covering the bar. He got us another beverage, and we sat there... just us at the bar--no one checked to see if the food was ok. Every time we needed something (which wasn't often), we waited... and tried to catch someone's attention. We were so disappointed that we had to flag down someone for service EVERY TIME! We personally know this is not normal! No Manager in sight; or we would've shared. So - Here's the final feedback; If the bar is open, please make sure you are adequately staffed... even ONE Customer counts and should not be neglected! Communication... It's important! The service and staff were wonderful: friendly, attentive, and welcoming . The atmosphere was clean and comfortable, but the overall vibe felt pretty standard. The potatoes, however, were the star of the meal: crispy, seasoned just right, and definitely the highlight of the plate. I attended a private party that had a buffet line of pre-selected appetizers (nicely labeled) and then you could order the drinks of your choice. I'm not vegetarian but tried a couple of the items labeled vegetarian- such as the Burrata, which tasted like a fancy mozzarella dish (excellent!) and the crispy broccoli. They had man candy/aka bacon, tempura calamari, chicken tenders, and my very favorite: prime rib sliders!!! The environment has a unique vibe curating seven different types of doors that you can find throughout the restaurant. They have an amazing happy hour options. Their Fried Calamari comes with an in-house green Basil aioli sauce drizzle that is AMAZING!! (typical cocktail sauce is still offered). I suggest asking for an extra side of the basil aioli if you happen to be a fan! The rest of our foods were done well, a very good price point for what you're getting. The Korean BBQ tacos and burrata was a bit more lackluster. But it was our first time trying it. Parking is not an issue since its located within the mall plaza area. In my most recent visit, the brussels sprouts were soaked in oil and the truffle fries exuded a strong artificial truffle scent and were flavorless and hard. I did enjoy the chicken penne alla vodka which had tender chicken and prosciutto, although the sauce was quite heavy. The service is attentive but pretty hands-off. The ambiance is eclectic, with a hodgepodge of various shapes of booths and chairs, not to mention the namesake seven doors arranged throughout. First item we ordered was the St. Louis style ribs as an appetizer. For three people this was enough. The dish comes with 4 ribs on a bed of pork rinds. The pork rinds tasted like they were made in house. The ribs were not as crispy as I expected but flavorful. If you want to compare this to anything I would say these are similar to the ribs served at P.F. Chang's. The pork rib was a little dry. My main dish was the steak and wedge salad. The steak was ordered medium well. The salad and steak was placed on 2 separate sides of the plate. A little inconvenient for customers to cut wedge lettuce and combine with steak. However the steak was cooked pretty well. The toppings of the salad included candied bacon, which was a little too sweet for my taste, and tomatoes, blue cheese, red onion and blue cheese dressing. The dressing was delicious but overpowered the salad. The truffle fries were thin and crispy, large enough portion to share with the table. Although there was a little too much Parmesan cheese, the herbs added a nice twist on the fries. The key lime pie was ordered for dessert. The meringue was light, slightly sweet and citrusy. Our visit started off okay, but things quickly went downhill due to some major miscommunication from our server. We specifically asked how the Thursday steak night special worked, especially regarding the cocktails, since 2 people in our party planned to order that deal. The server told us you could get any cocktail on the list for free, and any cocktail from the full menu for just $7. Based on that, I ordered a cocktail from the full menu and my boyfriend (who ordered the steak) chose one from the list. After the drinks were brought to us, the server came back and told us she had made a mistake -- that only the drinks on the specific list were $7, and anything else was full price. She apologized and said she would take care of it, so we trusted it was being handled. Had she told us we'd be charged full price, I absolutely would have said I didn't want the cocktail. I only ordered it because of the deal she described. I didn't want to spend full price on a drink I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. We also ordered the California roll, which was underwhelming. It had real crab, which was a nice touch, but it was just a tiny sliver hidden in a roll that was mostly rice -- not worth the price. The steak was small, overcooked, and just okay. I had the shrimp pasta, which was the best thing we ordered, but even that wasn't great. When the bill came, we saw we were charged full price for the cocktails, so I asked the server about it. Her tone completely changed, and she told us that's how they were supposed to be charged. She then said she'd get the manager -- it really felt like she just wanted to hand us off. The manager came over and told us the deal only applies if the person who orders the steak also orders and drinks the cocktail themselves -- something the server never mentioned. He said because I ordered and drank the $7 cocktail, and not my boyfriend who ordered the steak, we didn't qualify for the discount. Again, had we known that, we wouldn't have ordered the drink in the first place. After some back and forth, the manager reluctantly agreed to honor the $7 price for the drink, which was appreciated but not without some friction. Later, I spoke with another manager to explain the entire situation, and she was incredibly kind and understanding. She ended up refunding our full bill, which was a really generous gesture and helped turn the night around -- especially since we were there for my boyfriend's 24th birthday. Even so, the experience overall wasn't great. The food was mediocre, the service felt inconsistent, and the whole cocktail situation left a bad taste. However most of it came out all together or very shortly after one another. For a family that orders both appetizers and entree's this is inconvenient as most tables aren't big enough to hold all the dishes at once, so we wind up playing Tetris with the dishes and glasses. One plus is that it is in the Grandscape area, which has lots of things to explore before or after eating your meal. The food was good, we got the Tempura Calamari, Cobb Chicken Salad and Chicken Penne Ala Vodka (Part of the Restaurant Week menu). We asked for the appetizers to come out first.... they didn't, it all came out at the same time. My only complaint here is that the waiter waited until we said hello, instead of being greeted first (which is odd), didn't ask if I was done but just grabbed my plate and took it, I asked for salt and pepper shakers and was told: "well how about I just have the chef bring them out to you?"
