Normally, we love the Rackhouse. My girlfriend and I go there all the time. The servers and food are good, but we have had some recent issues as a result of the new general manager, who is very sloppy and unqualified at his job, which is why we left upset and took our business elsewhere the other day. We went in on a Sunday afternoon so it was not too busy at the time. My girlfriend and I like to be seated at a "low top" because she has back issues with climbing up into higher seating. We don't mind waiting for that as inside "low tops" are limited. The hostess was very nice, as they always are. She took us to the middle of the venue to seat us and then walked away while we were waiting on our server. I stood up to walk around the table so that I could sit next to her instead of across from her. She stood up to move over and pulled out the chair next to her so she could sit back down. At that moment the new general manager walked up, and without offering any explaination, took the chair out of my girlfriend's hand and said, "We need this table for another party." He walked away and left us standing there without offering us another solution, and apology or calling the hostess over to seat us elsewhere. We were left standing there dumbfounded and looking around unsure of what to do. We started walking back toward the front of the venue as we spotted another open "low top" near there. At that same time the female hostess saw what had happened to us, and she started to walk toward us. Meanwhile, another male server - acting as host - seated some people at the new table we were about to get to with the hostess. We got mad and said, "it feels like someone is playing a game on us!" The hostess apologized as she could see we were aggitated. It was not her fault, and we do not blame her. We blame the rudeness of the general manager. We left to go eat somewhere else. This is not the first incident with this general manager, though. A few days prior, we were eating in there and had a good vantage point of one of the side kitchen entries off to the left of the bar toward the ffront half of the venue. A bus boy sloshed water all over the floor while moving wet dishes in a container back into the kitchen. He didn't have a chance to clean it up because he was buy walking back and forth doing other things. No big deal. The general manager walks up and proceeds to yell at another female server about the water who had absolutely nothing to do with the spill After she walks away, he did not take any real care to clean the spot up himself. He comes back after a minute to clean it up but not with a mop or anything. He takes two towels off the bar and mushes it around on the floor with his foot. He , then, proceeds to kick the wet towels under the bar before walking away. Talk about a safety and hygene issue. This kind of left a bad taste in our mouth. He does not treat his venue or his staff very nicely. We wantedd to get up and tell the other female server that we were sorry for her. This venue would be great if they would fire this rude and sloppy general manager. It's a shame because this used to be one of our favorite venues to go to all the time. This place is so cool! Never been before and having a drink upstairs while watching the sunset can't be beat. The view is amazing! Live music, big bar, and an overall feel that seems somewhere far from Dallas, which is a good thing. Like a vacation spot! We were at a private event so the food was from the catering side. When walking up, I was excited about this place. It has a cool vibe. Whisky barrels lined up as you walk to the entrance. There's vintage couches tucked in corners, and wood seating. The wait staff were nice and very attentive. And while I am sure in the daytime it's a good experience, on Saturday evenings it's nothing more than a bar. A very loud bar. With live entertainment. It wasn't the right fit for our party of eight who were trying to visit with each other. No one could hear anything beyond the live music. The good was a mixed review too. Their fries are delicious, as well as the friend cheese. But my grilled chicken strips were over cooked and dry. I oh wasn't the only who wasn't excited about my meal - but I'm not here to review other people's thoughts on this place. read more

I came for a quick weeknight dinner with the hubs and sat on the patio. The patio is great with a beautiful view and we were seated quickly. Our table was dirty and I probably should asked for them to clean it, so not a big deal. We got happy hour cocktails, those were great ($6 sangria was my fave) and we shared the dip trio, the queso was not our fave (personal preference) but the guac and salsa were good. The smash burger with sweet potato fries & the ahi tuna salad with shallot vinaigrette were both very good as well, that vinaigrette was seriously so good. Went here for my husband's birthday lunch. We had reservations, but honestly didn't need them, it wasn't crowded (Saturday around 3 PM). The hostess was hunched over her phone when we arrived, popped up to seat us, then went right back to scrolling for the rest of the hour we were there. Love that for her, I guess. We were handed the brunch menu even though it was nearly 3 PM. Seemed pretty limited, but we made it work. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob (2/5). The breading was nice and crispy, but the chicken had zero seasoning. There was some kind of queso-ish sauce on top that gave it the only flavor it had. The mashed potatoes tasted like someone boiled a potato, smashed it once for good measure, and called it a day. Corn was just... there. No butter, no love. Husband had the smashburger (4/5). Solid burger, nothing life-changing, but way better than my chicken. Drinks were the highlight. The Blackberry Chambord mimosa was perfect (5/5), though I don't think it's possible to mess that one up. The Whiskey Daisy was also good (4/5), nice boozy kick with a pretty egg-white froth. Our waitress was super sweet and comped a dessert for my husband's birthday, which ended up being the best thing we had. The "Sloppy Sundae" = 5/5. All in all, not impressed. The Yelp reviews had me thinking this place was a hidden gem... turns out it's just hidden. The saving grace: that balcony view. Absolutely gorgeous. read more

Generally love this place, but have noticed they are really struggling lately with.. something. Just got told there was a 30 min wait inside or out, then noticed that over half the tables in the place are empty on a Saturday evening. So, while waiting I counted staff members. They have 8 servers, 2 hostesses, 3 bartenders and at least four other people with Rackhouse shirts on, but I think they were just running food and drinks... and standing around. Maybe bussers? Anyway, not sure where the miss management is, but it's pretty obvious. Also counted 12 couples say Nevermind and walk out when they were told about the wait. We always enjoy coming here when we're in town. The service has always been really good and the views can't be beat. They do have happy hour, typically from 4 to 7 most days. Because we were having dinner during this time. I took advantage of a buffalo trace old-fashioned ($10). For my entrée, I opted for the Monte Cristo with a side Caesar salad. Ever go to a place because of the Yelp stars and leave shaking your head saying, "How the he_ _?" Maybe it's the alcohol making people overly generous, but I didn't have a drink so I am not particularly feeling generous or gratuitous. Walking up to the restaurant the first thing I noticed was their take on the wall of whiskey barrels from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It's impressive and makes you feel like the stage is set for something special. Walking in, the first thing that hits you is the decibel level of the music. The live music was on the patio so we requested indoor seating, but it was literally louder than the patio because they were piping the music in through the speakers. The problem, the volume was beyond their speakers capacity, these creating a distortion level to the music that was unpleasant. Really unpleasant. There were nine of us in our party and we ranged in ages from mind 30s to 91 years old. When the hostess led us to our table it was a high table that had pretty high stools for seats. We should not have been put in the position of having to have to explain to her "why" those stools were not going to work for our elderly family members. Now let's talk about the food...I, and a few other people at our table ordered the Smash Burger. All of our burgers were just burgers, they absolutely were not Smash Burgers. If there was ever an attempt for them to actually be smash burgers, the attempt was poorly executed at best. There was absolutely no carmelization on the burger at all. Our server was pretty good, in fact she was probably the highlight of the night, however I would not go as far as describing her service as exceptional. Got to stop by here for a late night weekday day date night and it was perfect. I wish I got the name of our waitress, but she was so great! She had awesome recommendations, was so easy to talk to, and just overall a great human being to interact with. We shared the fried jalapeños and pickles (YUM), the meatloaf, and the bread pudding. The appetizer was much larger than we anticipated, so even for two people sharing be mindful that it's a lot of food. The meatloaf comes with two generous sides, and for my first time trying meatloaf it didn't disappoint. The star of the show was truly the bread pudding. 6 stars, and by far the best bread pudding I've ever had! What a great gem for lunch with a lake view! Beautiful ambiance, light, bright, and did I mention the peaceful lake view? The lunch menu had something for everyone and even gluten-free options. The portion sizes were generous and a great value. They also had an unexpected bonus - complimentary Blue Moon special tasting today to round out our meal. Our server was super-attentive with ice tea and water refills, and checked in regularly with us and patiently helped recommend the most popular appetizers for us to choose from. We had the fried pickles and jalapenos with three dipping sauces and could not finish it all between the two of us. The shrimp salad had lots of shrimp and beautifully presented. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of it. The chicken fried chicken was juicy and the jalapeno cream sauce was delicious. The side of mashed potatoes was also yummy and a nice lighter, flavorful change from traditional lumpy gravy usually served at other restaurants. The Nashville rub hot wings were large-sized and tender. The side of fresh celery and ranch went well with it. Thank you, JT, for the tour of the upstairs private room with attached bar and private patio which is an ideal space to rent for parties and meetings with the crystal chandeliers, big screen from 4 large screens mounted together, and a wall of glass fold up doors for an indoor-outdoor feel to admire the lake. First time here and came to celebrate a birthday. Had a nice time on the patio, even though it was 90 degrees when we showed up. Patio was lovely right at sunset and the temperature improved as the night went on and the fans helped on the patio. The chicken fried steak was very good and the people who ordered it really enjoyed it. However, 2 of them ordered it with the gravy on the side, and neither of them got it that way. We know the waiter heard us and seemed to make a note on both, but it came out wrong. One needed to be sent back and replaced, while the other just did their best to scrape it off. It was good gravy! They just didn't like the peppers with it and wanted to control their own amounts. Meatloaf looked very good and was all eaten. The spicy chipotle chicken breast entree was delicious. I would definitely order that again. Irish Gaelic chicken was practically licked clean. The spicy garlic Parmesan wings were a bit of a disappointment as far as the flavor was concerned. The one eating them said "this is just buffalo sauce with a few pieces of Parmesan on top". Not what he wanted, and there was no garlic to be seen or tasted. Good wings, just not the correct sauce or they need to improve on the flavor a bit. The carrot cake was nice and a good size. Free for birthdays which was a great plus. However ours was given to a table next to us and it took a while for that to be known, so we had to wait an additional 15+ minutes more to get ours before we could leave. Our time here was very pleasant, but only received 4 stars vs. the 5 for a few staffing issues. 2 of the meals came out wrong with the gravy on the chicken fried steaks. Our water glasses were constantly empty and we had to ask for more without being anticipated or noticed when they were empty. The empty plates of food were left on our table as we sat there (for 2+ hours) without being cleaned off. So when the carrot cake arrived after sunset, we had to maneuver plates around to share with everyone. Has to get a togo box for the carrot cake from the hostess counter because our waiter didn't come back and we needed to go. We had already paid, so not sure if they would've come back or not. Our waiter was very kind and courteous of our time and didn't rush anything, but some of those things listed above weren't up to par in our opinion. We also ordered a frozen espresso martini and when I ordered it, I told the waiter I wanted it to be on a separate check, not for the table to have to pay for. He nodded and seemed to understand, but I never received that check. So either we got a free drink or the person paying had to pay for it, which is the opposite of what I wanted to happen. I wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known that would've happened in the end. And one last note, whenever someone puts on a reservation a birthday, anniversary, etc. as to the reason they're coming, the waiter really needs to be promoted to that. Having to have someone ask if they do something for birthdays when it's already stated on the reservation seems a bit sad (this isn't the only place I've noticed this at). If you ask to know, but don't honor that and keep up with it, what's the point? We heard the waitress behind us ask her table if they were celebrating anything and even though they weren't, it was nice she took the time to ask and see. I would come back here, but would just hope to have a better staffing experience. The reviews raved about some of the staff members, so I know we just were a bit unlucky with some of the items. Nothing to keep someone away from this place, just some customer service issues that could be improved on. (I also hope the owner sees this because they respond to everyone but seem to have skipped me...and it's been 15 days haha) read more

I recently visited with my family on a Sunday for dinner. There was no wait to be seated. They had a couple large parties so it was pretty loud in there. They have a wonderful patio but we couldn't sit out there because it's planned to rain. We had a great server. She was new but still very helpful & had good knowledge of the menu. My meal could've come with pasta or potatoes & she made the perfect recommendation. I was glad I went with the pasta. We got nachos for an appetizer. They were good but not enough for a table of 6. Everyone loved their food. I tried the French fries too & would probably go back just for them. We didn't order drinks but the drink menu looked really good! My only menu suggestion would be an update on the desserts. They weren't overly interesting. I don't live close so I probably won't go often but I do look forward to going back in the future, especially on a good day to sit on the patio. We checked out The Rackhouse a second time after a disappointing first visit. To our surprise, we were delighted with the food options, live music, service, and management. We went on a Saturday when they had a guitarist/singer perform. He was amazing. Sadly, there weren't many people on the patio supporting him. Check The Rackhouse out on a Friday or Saturday evening for live music and a great view of the lake. There are space heaters propped along the tables to keep you warm this winter. We tried Berry Me Please, Fried Pickles and Jalapeños, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Ribeye, and Sloppy Sundae. Hands down, the Fried Pickles and Jalapeños were the best item of the night. Second would be the Sloppy Sundae. The Ribeye didn't have enough marbling so it was a bit tough. My husband really enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Make sure you get it with the sauce so it's not too dry. The staff is great and the general manager and store manager are awesome. We'll be back! read more

I was recently looking for a restaurant with private seating for a small (13 person) family Christmas gathering, including dinner and a White Elephant gift exchange. I submitted the request form on The Rackhouse's website and immediately received a canned response that they were working on another event, also providing some more things to consider - things like menu selection and things like that. I actually appreciated this email and its contents, even if it was an auto reply! The private room upstairs sounded great but was really too big for our small group - we wouldn't order enough to reach the minimum spend but now I want to find a larger part and use that space! Amy quickly reached out to me to discuss my request. After a couple emails she called me to answer any questions and nail down any details. There is a room just off of the main dining room that they use for a semi-private space. There are a couple ways that the room can be arranged based on wants and needs. Amy was very accommodating, even thinking to include an extra table for the gifts so we don't have to fit everything on the dinner tables. My husband and I decided to have dinner there to see if the food would be something the others ("picky eaters") would like before pulling the trigger and booking the space. We had dinner the next night and afterwards I immediately booked the space! Turns out there will be a couple of parties in that space at the same time but Amy assured me that will not be an issue. We are so excited to introduce our families to something new! We met JT, the manager on duty, and discussed room setup with him for a bit as well. When we asked about the menu he said that the Buffalo Chicken Dip appetizer was his favorite appetizer - maybe of all time - so we began with that. It was very flavorful without being too spicy to enjoy. We both loved it!! We chose the naan bread to go with the dip. Chips are the other option. I also ordered one of their Summer Cocktails, the "Berry Me Please." It consisted of Bacardi, Simple Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice, Black Raspberry Liquor, Blackberries and Mint. Since it was in the Summer menu I'm not sure if it is still available but if it is - get it!! Yum!! A restaurant owner/chef we know told us once that his test of a new restaurant is the cheeseburger. He said that if they mess up a cheeseburger that they are less likely to do other things well. Rich has taken this to heart and he ordered the Rackhouse Smash Burger. He thought it was great - it is definitely on my list of things to try! The fries were very tasty as well. I ordered the Baked Stuffed Shrimp. There were 5 good sized shrimp with quite a bit of stuffing. Both the shrimp and the stuffing were outstanding! The shrimp wasn't overcooked at all and stood up to the delicious stuffing. This will be included as I build my rotation of meals I like for sure. The dish comes with yellow rice pilaf and sautéed veggies. I substituted mac & cheese for the rice and kept the veggies. If I have any less positive feedback at all, it is that in my opinion, the veggies were a little overcooked. I prefer a bit of crunch - or at least a "bite" to them that was lacking. Instead, they were a bit mushy. I might try them once more to see if this was a one time experience or if it is just how they cook them, in which case I'll simply substitute something else going forward. No dessert for us this trip - we both had hearty sized to go boxes and couldn't handle another bite! As we ate, we could hear JT visiting the other tables, asking how things were and conversing about how the diners had heard about The Rackhouse. That is always good to see and hear - it shows me the restaurant family cares about the opinions and feedback from the guests. Finally, I have to say that Amy was wonderful to work with!! The Rackhouse is locally owned and she and her husband are a couple of the owners. Amy gave me a little history of the building's past (dive bar) and also said to try and time our visits to see the sunset. One entire side of the restaurant is garage doors and the sunset is supposed to be really amazing. Unfortunately for us, we went on a cloudy day so there was no sunset to be seen (but be sure to check out the sunset photos others have posted on Yelp!) but we did move the time of our party up a bit in the hope that the skies will be clear that day. We are both looking forward to enjoying the food and experience either the family. Fingers crossed for clear skies but even if we don't have them I think the food and overall environment are good enough to stand on their own! read more

I went here with some friends for HH one Friday. It was a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. I was glad to see they put up some covers for the patio since back when this place was Stan's they had nothing on the patio and it was a real struggle getting beat down by the sun with nothing over top. They had a Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned for $10.00 on HH, drank these until HH ended. Got to try their HH Mozzarella Cheese Bites $9.00, these were good, crisp breading and I like to dip them in ranch. I tried their HH Rackhouse Burger with Fries $11.00. The burger was just okay, I liked the fires though, reminded me of Wingstop as I am pretty sure they put sugar in the seasoning. Drank Jameson $9.00 each after HH. Our server Grace did a great job all around with pre bussing and refills/recommendations. I will note that during HH we could see they had speakers outside but no music on which was a little weird. They did have a live musician play later that night though, which was nice. I would go gladly go back anytime. read more

My Girlfriend and I made two visits since they opened. The first visit they were busy and the outside was full so we sat inside. The second visit we requested and got the outside as it was not as busy when we went during the week. We also got live music when we were seated outside and it was a little loud to hear each other talk. However, if you were going to hear the live music then it isn't an issue. The server was very attentive and helpful on the first visit BUT the food came out very slow and the stuffed shrimp was cold so not great. The second visit the service was not as attentive for ordering and refills on drinks but the food did come out promptly after ordering. My girlfriend loves a good gin and tonic and she ordered the house gin. We didn't ask what the house gin is and assumed a more generic brand. The Rackhouse is fancy and the house gin is Aviation. She is not a fan of Aviation as it is very heavy on the elderberry and very fruity shall we say. So if you are more a fan of say Tanqueray you should be sure to ask specifically and not get the house that is Aviation. For the first visit i had the Ribeye. The steak was really good as well as the mashed potatoes. The only complaint was it was a very small serving of the mashed potatoes as a side and the steak as well for the price. Potatoes are cheap so could have been a second scoop. The side salad was very good and i really like the croutons. The Stuffed shrimp was stated to be really good all the way around except for coming out cold. The bread pudding was good and the sauce on it was very good. And was a solid dessert all the way around. On the second trip I had the Country Fried Steak with the Jalapeño Gravy and did the Mac and cheese with bacon. The gravy was very interesting with a little spice to it but not hot. The country fried steak was solid but not the best or worst i have ever had so it is a good choice if you like Country Fried steak. The Mac and Cheese was the same but you can never go wrong with bacon on anything. The outside patio is great so if looking for a good outdoor venue they should be on the top of the list.
