We joined another family after traveling to the State College area with our high school aged daughters. After living elsewhere for several years, I was really excited to see a brewery scene popping up in the area and the food trucks sounded like a cool idea. We arrived at 6:30 and put our food order in by 6:45. By a little after 8, our food had still not arrived and the food truck had told our husbands that they weren't equipped for the food demand, but a staff member came and told our girls that they would need to leave at 8:30 when their 21+ policy kicked in. I can understand not wanting small children running around in the evening, but our girls were sitting and quietly talking. I explained that we had been traveling all day and that the food truck was behind, and they seemed understanding, but everyone still felt rushed to eat quickly and leave. I think the adults were getting more cranky about being hungry than the teens, but takeaways from this visit is that the food service may be understaffed to deliver even a simple order and they will start enforcing their 21+ policy at 8:30 even if you're still waiting on an order. Probably a very cool spot for 21+, but I would not bring my teens here again, even before 8:30 for the food trucks. read more

First time visiting a brewery in State College, and this one immediately caught my eye. Despite limited parking, I had no trouble finding a place to sit, and the setup is unlike any brewery compound I've ever visited--absolutely amazing. I took a moment to review the beer list and decided on a flight that included the Table Beer (a Belgian Ale at 3.3% ABV), a Kölsch, a Hazy IPA (East Coast style), and a West Coast IPA. Each one was fantastic, but the Table Beer really stood out. Light in ABV yet full of character--it was crisp, refreshing, and straight to the point. I wish I had grabbed a 4-pack to go. Hands down, the best brewery I've been to in the State College area. Can't wait to come back. read more

Beer and atmosphere was really good. Had been there before and enjoyed cigars at the fire pit. Did not know I was breaking a rule today when we had a cigar at the fire pit. No signs on the property but barried in their website was a no smoking rule. So lady employee came out to tell us, implied I was untruthful when I said I had had cigars there before. Also stated they would be fined for it. Then another employee, seemed like owner, came out to tell us the rules again 15 min. later....He then corrected the first employees comments about a fine. Then stated I had gotten away with it before..... Like I was trying to intentionally break their rules. I am all about respect when patronizing a business. We had already estinguished our cigars after the first employee came out but we're holding them as there was no good place to set them down. The second conversation really just pushed the mistake we unintentionally/unknowingly made to far. Just put up a sign.... Ruined the afternoon. Just disappointed in the lack of a sign and the way they handled it. Basically telling your customers they were liars and deceitful.... Not a good look. read more

Really too-notch spot in Boalsburg, PA--close to State College and Penn State. Boal City is taproom only, but they bring in a variety of food trucks in lieu of a kitchen I enjoyed several different beers and Boal City offers a variety of styles that will suit most any taste. In my case, the kolsch and West Coast IPA were standouts. The facility is charming and has a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the State College area. read more

We have been loyal patrons of BCB for years and have introduced many friends and colleagues to the business. We typically visit two or three times a week for drinks and dinner, and until today we had never experienced an issue. After graduation, I invited a large group to celebrate with drinks and food at BCB. Everything was going great, as usual, until an uncomfortable interaction with David completely changed the atmosphere. For the past several weeks, my husband has ordered the Rice Lager, which was not on tap but had been available as a single can purchase. Today, however, David refused to serve it and accused my husband of "trying to scam the system." That is an extremely inappropriate thing for a general manager to say to a long-time customer. My husband was understandably confused and asked what he meant. We are not customers who question prices or ask for receipts, and we consistently tip at least 20%. After returning to the table, my husband noticed other patrons with beer cans and spoke to David again, but David then accused him of being confrontational. After all of this he said they do offer can pour service!!!! Why did he not suggest this instead of accusing him that he was scamming the system. What made the situation even more confusing is that David has regularly cleared our table over the past few weeks and would have clearly seen the empty beer cans previously served to my husband. Our entire table discussed the interaction afterward, and everyone was shocked by how rude and unprofessional it was. To make matters worse, one member of our group mentioned that she had experienced rude and unprofessional behavior from David on two separate occasions and is unlikely to return. Unfortunately, several others in our party felt the same way. It's disappointing because the rest of the staff has always been wonderful, professional, and welcoming. We truly enjoyed supporting BCB over the years, which makes this experience even more upsetting. read more

I LOVE Boal City Brewery! E went there for the first time yesterday and I wish I knew about this place sooner! The staff is friendly and upbeat even when the place is busy! They have rotating food trucks, which are amazing so it's a fun variety of food options. Live music, fire pits outside to hang out, dogs are welcome and a really fun place! We had a graduation celebration here and everyone had a great time! I cannot say enough about how great this was and what a fun time we had! read more

Great laid back atmosphere with a really good beer selection. Prices are very fair and reasonable. The staff is very accommodating and will generally do whatever they can to make your visit a positive experience. I have been to a variety of events here; craft nights, live music, trivia, or just hanging out, and the staff consistently deliver. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Hard to find in yelp. don't know why. There are no horses here. (horse walks into a bar....with these prices I'm not surprised). Beer was ok, one server was great, another server took an unfinished beer. I think it is very possible to ask if people are finished. What would be the harm in throwing an "empty" glass of beer on someone? if you would not like that amount, then don't take the glass without asking. Food truck was Clem's, which is great! Building is lovely and has lots of outdoor seating. free water, serve yourself, which is nice too. Beer was expensive and non inspired. The brewer is not into cask or hazy, pours are 14 oz pints, and they like tippy stemmed glassware (clean at least). If you like lager it might be a place for you. Drinkers noted that while we like bitter, these beers had an extra sharp bitterness as an endnote. Prices are high, not a session place then. Might be rather nice in the summer. Crowded oddly enough. If you do not want kids to run around outside then on your website say that kids are not welcomed. Today I witnessed four different incidents of a worker telling kids and their parents that the children were not allowed to run and have fun. What else are they supposed to do? Kids should be able to run and have fun and allow their parents to enjoy a drink and converse with other adults knowing their children are safe and having a fun time being children. If you have young children do not go here. This brewery is not welcoming for you and your family. I will no longer be supporting this establishment. If you do not have children it is a welcoming environment, but if you do beware that your children will be ridiculed for playing outside. read more

Recently opened and doing an awesome job! Beautiful new building with tasty beers and very comfortable spaces inside and out. They only have a few snacks thus far but there was a taco truck on-site tonight. The brown ale and Belgian were both tasty. My wife really enjoyed the Endless Summer cocktail and Good Intent Cider and Ottos root beer were also on draft. Very highly recommended! We will be back soon read more

Nice place. Nice variety of beers. Liked the ambience- several different seating options, inside and out. Dogs allowed in main bar while you grab your beer, but they prefer that you sit outside with them, if weather permits. Very thoughtful kindness from the barback who greeted my dog and made sure to get her a nice dish of water, which we both really appreciated. Lovely place for a civilized beer. read more

Went here on a Friday afternoon. It's a really nice place with lots of outdoor seating and pet friendly. If you're coming in the summer don't forget your sunscreen. The drinks were nice and the facility overall is very well done. It did have a weird oyster smell inside that was really unappetizing but I didn't inquire as to what it was so it could be temporary. Atmosphere was very pretty and relaxing. Food truck they had, had amazing food. Service was quick and super friendly. Just had a comment made about our children being a little loud and giggling, they didn't want them tackling one another in the yard. Which wasn't going to take place, but maybe not the most kid friendly place, but has a great outdoor space for kids to hangout with you while you eat and relax. Honestly, who builds a brewery where the primary backdrop is a cemetery made famous for honoring those who lost their lives in battle? Regardless of how the beer tastes, the location is tacky and classless. At the absolute very least, this establishment could plant a row of arborvitae or something that would allow for separation from the cemetery and allow families to visit their deceased relatives with some sense of privacy, dignity, and peace. read more

Pretty good beers but seem to be 12 oz. instead of 16 oz. pint and price is higher than other local breweries. Lots of kids and pets about so it has much less of a "bar feel". Very popular and crowded. It's a new place, summer, and you can sit on the grass if you wish. Tailgate atmosphere if that's your bag. The odor may well come from the brewery. read more
