Stumbled upon Jasper Kitchen where I ordered the Mexican style beans. Chef's Mexican style beans with chorizo, capsicum and spring onion served on toasted sourdough with fried egg topped with avocado crumbled cheese. Sounded so interesting and definitely exceeded my expectations. If you're a fan of spicy you'll love this. If not then probably not so much. What a kick start to the morning!

Are they just taking on the general price rise that Melbourne is seeing or trying to compete with Padre and Market Lane (recent openings in the past few years)? I don't even want to post this review because it's a hidden gem in my opinion and I don't want to share it with anyone!!! (I'm an only child, have I mentioned that?) The place is small, but cozy and the staff are so attentive. They also sell three of my favourite things: Darryl's Peanut Butter, Panna Choloctae and freshly baked sourdough bread. Check out their little nook of goodies when you head to the register to pay. The menu changes monthly depending on the fruit and veg that are in season (I'm a sucker for places that do this!). It a great place for vegetarians and vegans because the dishes are so creative and healthy, you never feel like you're missing out. It's also great for all you omnivores and meat eaters. Their dishes also hero juicy bacon, chorizo and sausages as well. Every time a dish is placed in front of me I'm pleasantly surprised with the beautiful presentation and quality of the produce. Much of the food is cooked in a pizza oven giving it that extra nice crunch. Coffee is a blend from Syndicate and there is also Moccamaster filter available and a small bar with a selection of beer and spirits. If you're nearby, definitely check it out.

We scraped the sauce up using the lotus root and lettuce until nothing was left. The steak was tender and flavorful with a mushroom gravy that wasn't too heavy but perfect for dipping the fries and eggs into. It's all I think about now, day in and day out until I can go back and eat it again. It haunts my every waking minute. I don't know what I'll do when I have to fly home and can't get it back in the states. If you find yourself anywhere near Melbourne...or Australia...make the trek to Humble Rays in Carlton. It's worth it. Everything on the menu looked amazing. The banana matcha cloud and Orange espresso are both unique and unexpected plays on the traditional drinks that will change your mind about all sorts of flavors. The service and ambience also win!
