    Kayaking on the Deschutes!
    Ashley F.

We had the absolute BEST Kayaking & white water rafting experiences ever here!!! Came here with my parents & we're all elated with Otlyn, Brian, & Cam! On Monday, we went on an incredible kayaking excursion with Otlyn, the "Otter" & Brian. They were amazing! It was just us 3 adults with 2 guys & we got the total VIP service! Both guides are super personable, informative, funny, & helpful. Otlyn even got my mom paddle boarding for the 1st time! She was beaming! Then on Tuesday, experienced whitewater rafting. They offer a discount for rafting on Tuesdays. Otlyn even remembered our names from yesterday. These guides go above & beyond to make you feel welcomed here! We had Cam as our guide for whitewater rafting & he was excellent as well! He really gave clear cues for paddling, & as a school teacher, I really appreciated the guided instruction. So much fun on all of the rapids. We had such a blast both days! I think the guides really stand out here. They are what truly drive the level of fun we all had on our he water both days! Many thanks to Otlyn, Brian, & Cam! Make sure to request Otlyn, Brian, & Cam when you go!!!!

I took my family ice skating and it was a great experience! The staff was friendly, and the activity was affordable and a ton of fun. Lots of places to sit and take a break to watch, easy to hang out on the side and hold on when you're a new ice skater, and the walker things help so much! The tree in the middle and all of the lights are beautiful. And we enjoyed the oldies music playing. Will definitely be back in the future!

Our family had a fabulous time rafting the Deschutes with Will as our guide. The office staff were also great. We highly recommend them.

The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in choosing the right paddleboard for us. We rented stand-up paddleboards for one hour for $30, with the option to extend to two hours for $40, which is a great value. The river is beautiful, peaceful, and full of interesting scenery. There is always something to see along the way, making the experience fun and relaxing at the same time. And don't be shy about jumping into the water if the conditions allow--it can be part of the fun! Just be sure to follow the safety instructions provided before your adventure begins. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe to anyone visiting Bend.

Luckily, we managed to do a walk-up appointment and get our tubes for floating. They do offer online reservations, more than 24 hours in advance, but they had plenty of inner tubes so a reservation was not needed that particular day. From start to finish, they made the entire process extremely easy and seamless. From being able to park your car and get a ride with your inner tube to the drop off point and then being picked back up by the shuttle and returned to the parking lot, and everything in between. They provided us with a good safety briefing as well as the opportunity to leave our car keys since I had not thought about bringing a waterproof pouch. For just about $30 per person, it was well worth the experience and took us about two hours, but we did stop after the rapids and spend some time just swimming before continuing on. If you are a local or just visiting the Bend area, I cannot recommend floating the river enough.

They start on time, so don't mess around and miss the bus (though not sure they'd leave anyone, it's a friendly place). Mikie communicated expectations well from the jump and got us to and from safely. Trevor was a great raft guide, clearly loves what he does, and as far as I could tell, does it well. Would row for him again for sure. Rode a raft with a family my partner and I didn't know, it was a good time all around. Will probably hit up another tour next summer for fun, was worth it. Tips? Kinda? You could easily hit this and another outing in one day. Set your timing right and you could ride and then raft, this is certainly a good time but it doesn't take long door to door. If you care about pics sit in the front. If you're worried about rowing, don't sit on the right for big eddy (the guide will likely seat folks for safety and row power anyhow). Not sure I need to say this but I will, there isn't a dry seat on the raft. The road to the spot is bumpy, sit toward the front if that bothers you. If your kids not taller than an oar, they likely won't get one. There are two spots you'll be offered to jump in.

Well organized prep and pickup in Sunriver, in the main village behind the Sunriver Country Store. Our guide, Lanny was lovely and kept us safe while also ensuring our group ranging from ages 7-50 had a great time. Only real feedback has to do with the to/from transportation and driver sales pitch. School bus to the put in added a lot of extra time to the overall trip which made the short time on the river feel even shorter. And while Roberto our driver was lovely, the sales pitch for other trips that Sun Country offers prior to heading back to the main office felt very sales-y and drawn out. These guys can't help how the river and rapids are set up but they could be more efficient with time overall. My kids definitely had a blast and have been bitten by the whitewater rafting bug. Thanks to Lanny for a great time on the water!

The sleds were loaded into a five-place enclosed trailer and ready to go when we arrived at the shop. Michael the owner gave us a thorough run down of the trail systems (I've ridden in Minnesota a lot, but first time in Oregon), a walk through of the sleds, and other general tips. They also had a complete lineup of decent rental equipment, although renting isn't ever has good as having your own gear that you're used to. All of the sleds were quality Ski-Doo long tracks. We had two 850's that rocked the trails and the powder, two 600's for the less experienced riders, and one 900 two-up. Unloading and loading was easy, and it was a short 25 minute drive to the snow park. Great rental experience - would definitely rent again from Central Oregon Rentals. Thoughts about the Deschutes trail system around Mt. Bachelor: 1. We rode on what had to have been one of the busiest days of the year - bad planning on our part. By the time we got to the Wanoga sno-park the parking lot was full, but it really wasn't full: they could have fit at least 1/3 more rigs if folks would learn how to park. There was literally 10' between some rigs. We ended up parking along one of the roadways inside the snow park which worked. If you could beat the mountain traffic and make it higher up it would be better. See #2 below. 2. The trails leading up to the Mt. Bachelor - especially Trail 5 - were AWFUL. So many riders chewing it up, even though they were groomed the night before. They were even worse coming back down. If you like going 10 mph max on washboards you'll love them. Once we got past the mountain, Trail 5 was better, but not great. 3. The 250 miles of the Mt. Bachelor trail system is beautiful, but TBH after riding Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the UP, the trail system around Mt. Bachelor isn't the place to go for hard core riding. We rode all day and maybe got 40 miles - in the upper Midwest we'd get at least 100 miles on a low day. This is partly due to the number of people and the trail conditions, but there just aren't the same miles of trails if you really like to ride. 4. The stop at the Elk Lake resort was great. Definitely worth they trip out there. Would we ride the Deschutes Trail System again? -Yes, and we would definitely rent from Central Oregon Rentals. -Yes, but on a weekday or during the shoulder season. Definitely NOT on a holiday weekend. -Yes, but explore starting at a different location.
