I never write negative reviews but I had such a horrible, albeit brief, email exchange with whomever responded to my email inquiry on the website that I have to share it. I emailed Sew Many Things to ask about getting my two chairs reupholstered. This is a copy of the exact email exchange: Me: Hi, I have two chairs that need to be reupholstered. I'm looking to spend less than it would cost to buy new chairs.Thanks, Marisa Sew Many Things: Marisa,That's not something I can respond to in an intelligent way...First,I don't have any idea what the chairs even look like? Second,I don't know where you shop for new furniture? Bob's...Chariho...Jordan's??? Ok, so maybe I wasn't clear on what I was looking to spend but wouldn't you think that a business owner what say something like "can you tell me a little bit more about the chairs, what is your price range, here's what our services typically cost" or something a little more customer friendly??? I couldn't believe the response. As a business owner myself, I would never respond to an email inquiry with such a bad attitude. So future customers of Sew Many Things, be forewarned. I have been thrilled by the work that Kris at Sew Many Things has done for me. I would work with her again with no reservations, so I was sad to read of another reviewer's less-than-satisfactory email exchange. Perhaps my approach via email helped get the results I wanted. A trusted interior designer recommended Sew Many Things to me, so when I sent email to ask about reupholstering a vintage mid-Century sofa and two vintage mid-Century chairs, I attached photos of each piece, along with the measurements (height, width, depth). The email I got back quoted a ballpark price for the labor on each piece, an estimate of the amount of yardage that would be required to reupholster the pieces (depending on fabric selection), and a caveat that if significant repair work were needed on the frame, the repairs would be available at additional charge if I chose to go forward with the project. Kris noted that fabric costs vary greatly and invited me to take a look through her many many sample books to get ideas. She was very helpful in guiding me to fabric that was within my budget. The challenge for me was that Sew Many Things has such a steady stream of clients that it could be a wait before my pieces got into the project queue. I was concerned that I'd be without the furniture for a long while but, as it turned out, Sew Many Things does not pick up the furniture to take to the workshop until one's project is at the top of the queue and the fabric has arrived. PS - I recently went to Cardi's to look for a media center and took note of the cost of new sofas. I was shocked by the prices -- much more than what I paid to have Sew Many Things reupholster the sofa, which is so well made that it has many more years of life remaining in it. PPS: I wound up buying a media center at Ikea. Better price, same particleboard construction as what Cardi's had, and I didn't feel stalked by salespeople. We were in Cardi's no more than 30 minutes but were approached by SEVEN salespeople. read more

I purchased an end table an wanted to changed it into an ottoman. Someone had told me to contact Sew Many Things. I did and she was so wonderfully helpful in getting me to my dream. She showed me several different fabrics and explained how I could do this. I picked a fabric that she had and she upholstered my end table. I had to cut the legs down but now I have this one of a kind amazing ottoman. I saw some of the other things that she was working on and she is the best. After working with Kris and Betsy at Sew many Things I feel compelled to write a positive, truthful review. They are professional, talented experts. Their selection of fabrics vary to meet anyone's budget and taste. Their skills are amazing! My furniture was purchased at Roitman in Providence 34 years ago, it is Baker contemporary design and is as good if not better than it was on day one since Kris and Betsy brought it back to life! Finely crafted furniture is an investment and re-upholstery protects that investment. Kris and Betsy have now re-upholstered six dining chairs, two barrel chairs, a love-seat and sofa. I anxiously await two stressless style chairs with gorgeous fabric. In reference to the negative review whether to buy new or reupholster, their answer is exactly why I chose them!
