We picked some strawberries and sugar snap peas, both smaller than what you would be used to at the grocery stores, but packed with so much delicious flavor! The girls had an absolute blast going through the fields, even trying to squeeze in a taste (we had to hawk-eye watch them). I loved feeling like we were supporting a local business, but also what farms should be and what I grew up with (We didn't have to make a reservation, we didn't have to pay for each person, we just paid for what we picked) It's not a huge operation, but it did the job for us. Such a treat. I love coming to Larriland each year to grab fresh fruit. I still decided to go and buy some from the farm stand and to see if they at least still had some of my favorite products. They did I was happy to grab some up. They have Taharka Bros ice cream and some flavors I had never tried before so I grabbed a couple, don't judge. Not stating if they made it home or not but why would anyone let perfectly good ice cream go to waste on a hot ride home. Come on now, make it make sense lol. While I spent time commuting to D.C. for business by car and train during the day, upon my return, I was able to enjoy field-view sunsets and quiet nights. The price was reasonable for what was offered and the location enables easy shopping at a few top grocery stores and major hardware stores. The only caveat here is that the public roads approaching the farm have some distinct blind spots, so be careful driving and honk your horn on tight turns. The driveway needs some deep worn areas filled in with stone to make it more level, but otherwise it is very accessible. Also, with so many peaceful and adorable chickens walking about, I couldn't help but smile high. Be sure to get your fill of peace and beauty here!

We had an amazing time at Hollabaugh Bros' 70th Anniversary Blueberry Festival! This place had it…read moreall: wagon rides, blueberry ice cream and milkshakes, free samples of blueberry goodies (the blueberry cheddar cheese was surprisingly my favorite!), and a whole tent dedicated to blueberry sundaes and pie à la mode. Outside, there were food trucks, vendors, and rows of potted plants; inside, a massive farm market bursting with fresh produce, baked goods (hello, giant sugar cake cookies), frozen treats, refrigerated items, home décor, and gifts. The highlight for me? U-Pick Blueberries. We picked nearly 5 lbs, and because it was their anniversary, it was only $1.70/lb -- an absolute steal. Staff were friendly, parking was plentiful, and the huge branded Hollabaugh Bros Adirondack chair made the perfect selfie spot to commemorate the day. They host seasonal festivals for spring blossoms, strawberries, peaches, and apples, so we're already plotting our return. Whether you've got kids in tow or you're just a couple looking for a fun weekend daytrip, this is a sweet (and tasty) way to spend a few hours.

A typical week includes two types of fruit, some sort of leafy green (salad greens in spring, kale and such later on), some sort of potatoes, an additional veggie (like peppers, onions, and/or eggplant), a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. My girlfriend and I take one share, designed for a family of four, and we eat well all summer and fall and are able to save a significant amount for winter. They're usually open every Saturday with extra foods and meats for sale. Lastly, even though this is a family operation, they are always quick to credit their "workshares" - members who work picking and/or packing produce in exchange for reduced rates on their CSA. A local business worth supporting.
