During my visit, the display cases contained ice cream flavors such as black raspberry, peanut butter, coconut, strawberry cheesecake, chocolate chip, coffee, mint chip, cookie dough, butter pecan, banana cream pie, moose tracks, etcetera. The employee promptly and politely scooped ice cream for my husband and me, and she accurately charged us. I had ordered a cup of caramel praline turtle ice cream, and my husband had ordered a hot fudge sundae. We rate these treats as 4 stars each. The servings were a good size, and we enjoyed the flavors. A small seating area was available with a table and chairs. Best Ice cream and service around! Came here for a last minute hot five sundae, and honestly this was the best sundae I've ever had! I don't know what type of ice cream this is but it's amazing and fresh! A huge variety of flavors, I got a scoop of Cookie Monster drenched in decadent hot fudge! They also have gelato that looked amazing! On a side note, they have a freezer with beef and meats from a local farm, which is a huge plus if you want locally sourced proteins for dinner! This ice cream shop is a step back in time. I never miss an opportunity to grab ice cream and this place did not disappoint. When you first walk in, you're greeted with a gum ball machine and acouple old school carnival games. Fun! There is a small seating area inside and outside that you can enjoy if the weather is nice. They have several creative and fun hand scooped ice cream options, along with a separate gelato case. I opted for a tornado, which is their equivalent to a blizzard. They don't offer as many mix-ins, but my cookie dough ice cream with butterfinger and peanut butter sauce did the trick. Everyone in our group was pleased with the selections. I stopped over here after lunch since I wanted to try their ice cream. I spoke to a very nice man behind the counter named Chris. They use Perry's premium ice cream for their various flavors. In addition, they sell Leona's ice cream sandwiches from Wilkinsburg and Italian gelato. I was free to sample whatever I wanted. The gelatos are made by the same people who make the ones for Mercurio's in Shadyside. Gelatos are a little more expensive than the regular ice cream but well worth it. Being a fan of dark chocolate I ordered one scoop of death by chocolate gelato which had chocolate chips in it. Chris gave me a cup with ice so I could fill it with water from their fountain to drink. This gelato was so good it was literally to die for! I asked about dairy free options and he told me that today they only had one ice cream and one gelato that were considered as such. They have only one table for seating since most people probably purchase it to go. In addition to the usual ice cream fare there is a case that sells dairy and cheese products as well as Sam Pelligrino, brown eggs, and bottled water. Free WiFi is available. Passcode given upon request. Chris told me that the Amish butter rounds come from a store west of this area and the glass milk gallons are by Bruten dairy. I have seen this brand when I visit certain grocery stores. Having purchased it one time prior I must say it is very good. Sewickley confectionery sits back a little bit from Beaver Ave and is next to a gas station which is next to Orr's fine jewelry. Metered street parking is available throughout the business district and it is an easy walk if you park in or around Broad St. This is a great place if you want a cool treat now that the weather is getting warmer and you happen to be in the Sewickley neighborhood. read more

We get the Gelato when I come here, they also have ice cream too. We usually wait in line and it's usually out the door. The place is small with tables inside and outside. One time there was only one person working, maybe someone called off you never know. They don't have a restroom here. It's street parking and there's a parking lot area across the street. If they had a window for gelato only and a separate line for ice cream that would be helpful! I would come back for Gelato though and I might try the ice cream sometime! read more

Everyone loved this place but me so perhaps I picked the wrong choice, dark chocolate lightning or something like that. The color was so deep that I was expecting something more decadent. Their ice cream is consistently excellent and you rarely (if ever) find one that has that slightly "off" taste ice cream gets when it sits in the freezer too long. The owner obviously takes pride in his business and strives to provide a quality product. The interior is small and I wish they provided more outdoor seating, but most customers end up wandering through the village of Sewickley while they eat so it really isn't much of a problem. During the school year they sell small fountain drinks for only 25 cents, but the prices go up as soon as school lets out for the year. read more

I recently stopped in at the Confectionery-- a last minute decision instead of the usual fro-yo "buffet" at the trendy spot across the street. As I entered, I was greeted by smiling faces and was made to feel right at home. There was a large selection of hard scooped ice cream, but my focus quickly changed when I spotted the case of gelato. They had about 15 or so homemade gelatos so choose from, which made picking one nearly impossible. The friendly gentleman behind the counter offered several suggestions, followed by samples, all of which were absolutely delicious! I chose a Samoa gelato, which tasted JUST like the Girl Scout cookie! I was very pleased with my experience there.. The service was great.. The ice cream was wonderful and the prices weren't outrageous considering it IS Sewickley. I can't wait to go back!! I have gone to the confectionary many times before and usually had ok service. The owner is a great guy. My reason for the single star is that I recently went in with my boyfriend one evening, maybe 9pm on a Sunday. As we walked in the door one of the girls working the counter screamed out at me scaring me to death;it was to warn me that the floors were wet, which though I appreciated, a simple yellow warning sign would have sufficed. The worst part of any transaction is when you feel like your presence is an annoyance. Seeing as how all the gelato was removed from its display, the floors clean, and all the toppings were removed it seemed as though they were ready to close with an hour still to go. We went to order and it seemed like everything we asked for they were "out of", I would much rather some one tell me that they already put the cherries in a cooler, or that they cleaned out the toppings containers already that's why we don't have nuts (which I have to say these guys when they have them, have the best). So we couldn't order sundaes because there wasn't any hot fudge, nuts, or cherries which was the main reason we wanted ice cream so badly. This is more a review on the service we received than it is on the ice cream because it is normally very good. So we then decided to get milkshakes. We were then told we couldn't get larges because they were out of large cups. Once we got our small milkshakes they were lousy. It was almost all milk, no ice cream the cups were covered in a sticky mess from the mixer cup they dump the milkshakes from, which was everywhere, squeezing out the top which wouldn't seat right. As we waited the two girls were in such a hurry to get us out of there each time a customer would come in behind us they would look at each other and roll their eyes. Anyways I would like to say regardless of our experience you should still give them a try if you get a tall, middle-aged man who is the owner you will walk out of there very happy. If it's a couple of high school girls an hour before closing time you might not get so lucky. read more
