This place is a little gem across from Cobblehaus. They had so many homemade flavors that were unique and delicious that it was difficult to choose. I ended up going with one scoop of dirt and one scoop of waffle wonder. The dirt flavor was super chocolatey with some oreo like chocolate pieces and the waffle wonder was a vanilla base with what appeared to be mini cocoa puffs and waffle pieces. The staff are very friendly and will let you sample flavors. They were busy before we went in and they were busy when we left. The space is small, but it's homey, for sure. I paid around $5 for two good sized scoops. I'll be back! read more

Wow! Based off the pictures posted we thought this would be a great stop for the kiddos. WRONG! They hardly had any ice cream flavors, most were empty buckets, even though we walked in 5 minutes after opening. Beyond the lack of ice cream at an ice cream shop, they also didnt even have cones! On the menu behind the counter bubble tea is also listed but did they have it? Nope! Don't waste your time or money! Janie's homemade ice cream is a recent addition to the Coraopolis area. Named for a beloved family member Maryjane AKA Janie who is deceased, Janie's memory is honored with a beautiful picture as you enter on the side. The place is small and the staff very friendly and helpful. They serve Betsy's ice cream which is based in Mt. Lebanon. Betsy's ice cream is premium farm sourced and made at their store on Washington Road, Mt Lebanon. Betsy's ice cream is always one of my favorites so I was glad to have the opportunity to try it in a new location. They carry about 20 of Betsy's flavors including one vegan one. Prices are very reasonable and you can not only taste but also mix and match flavors should you choose more than one scoop. They also carry pints for takeout and are open year round. As a novelty for children they carry plastic baseball helmets instead of cups. I inquired about the banana whip and learned that they grind a fresh banana into a mix to give it a fresh soft served flavor. I was indeed pleased to see that they carried Betsy's signature flavor known as "Pittsburgh Pride." Designed to resemble the black and gold of the city, the yellow ice cream is mixed with chocolate chips and cookies. That flavor was definitely a "must" for me to pair with a scoop of blueberry cheesecake. The vegan flavor they were carrying was toasted coconut latte. They also have for purchase bottled water and soda pop for $1.00. In addition to ice cream you can purchase smoothies, milk shakes, sundaes, floats, as well as your traditional banana splits. Raised seating as well as children's tables are available if you choose to eat inside. The place has no restrooms. Free WiFi is available. At this point they don't have regular tap water but they welcomed my suggestion of having some available for customers. Janie's homemade hard ice cream sits in the middle of the Coraopolis business district headed westbound. Inexpensive metered street parking is available. Janie's is indeed a welcome addition to the west suburbs of Pittsburgh. read more

I was hoping for good ice cream but this exceeded our expectations! The staff was friendly and generous with tasting amounts. The apple pie flavor is the most delicious ice cream EVER, perfect for fall! Pittsburgh pride is also yummy! It's a family business and they really care about your experience there. Finally was able to visit Janie's! We really enjoyed our ice cream and plan on coming back again throughout the summer! The storefront was very clean and decorated nicely. The service was excellent and the ice cream was so good! My boyfriend had ice cream that tasted just like thin mint cookies. I had a scoop of cookie dough and a scoop of their birthday ice cream. Some of the staff seem nice. It's a small place on a one way street. They have a table inside though. Or you might find a bench outside somewhere. The ice cream is pretty good and I will probably come back again. One of the staff members told my husband and I that they order their ice cream from Perry's ice cream. I was confused because I thought it was homemade ice cream by them but it's not. They have milkshakes and some other options as well and a cooler with beverages too. read more

I can only comment on the chocolate milk shakes (made with chocolate ice cream, not vanilla) They're really good!!I only wish they offered a dark chocolate flavor once in awhile. Prices are reasonable. Janie's and Kip's in Moon are my go-to places for hard ice cream. Kip's prices are a little cheaper, but their shakes are terrible. read more
