Kool Cones is a local, family-owned and -operated ice-cream shop. For several years, I have eaten at Kool Cones off and on. During my most recent visit, the menu listed soft serves, frozen yogurts, sundaes, shakes, floats, slushees, milkshakes, and more. I wanted to treat my dog Daisy to an ice cream. I did not see it listed on the menu, so I asked the employee. She spoke nicely with me, and she explained that a pup cup is vanilla ice cream. It would be nice to see additional flavors such as peanut butter. I bought it for $1.40. It had a milk bone on top. My dog ate about half of the ice cream and all of the milk bone. I think that she would have eaten all of it if she were not tired and hot. Some outdoor seating is available here. read more

I have been going to Kool Cones since I was little, and after moving back to PA recently - conveniently right up the road from North Park - I have started taking my wife when she needs a treat. We love this place! I know what you're thinking...it's just soft serve...but you're wrong. Try a more generic place then try Kool Cones and you'll notice a difference right away. I'm not an ice cream scientist, but I will testify that this stuff is creamier, and just tastes better. They also have their famous raspberry flavor that they make themselves. This is still my Mom's favorite summer sweet, and now my wife is hooked. Try one of their several flavors of Jimmies (yes Ohio, they are called Jimmies) for an extra boost. read more

Came here for a sweet treat on a summer day and got exactly that! We ordered a strawberry slush blended with vanilla soft serve and a raspberry and vanilla soft serve cone. Both were delish but the raspberry/vanilla cone stole the show. Looking forward to trying more of their soft serve flavors. read more

As a frequent North Park visitor, this Kool Cones has been my go-to spot for ice cream for years. Nothing beats taking a break during a bike ride on a hot day before doing another couple laps around the lake. And thanks to their extensive menu you can come often and still try something different each time. Today I tried the waffle bowl hot fudge sundae, which was nice even on a cool October afternoon, but I've also had the frozen yogurt, soft serve, and milkshakes in various flavors and toppings. Not a bad option among them. Another incentive to return are the seasonal flavors, like the pumpkin I tried a few weeks ago. Prices are reasonable and what you'd expect, there is some picnic bench seating, and a bit of noise being right along the road. But it's nothing too bad, I've been at much noisier indoor restaurants, haha. Despite not being open year round, they do open earlier and close later on the season compared to other places which works out perfectly for those unseasonably warm days! read more

Nothing is better then getting out of the pool and coming down to Kool cones for some ice cream. I really enjoy their vanilla raspberry twist that is dipped in that cherry hardening sauce. Is that the most ridiculous order ever, possibly but it is so good that every single time I'm at the pool or even in North Park I have to get it. I will say that I wish they had holders for the cones because the napkins just aren't cutting it. Especially if you do get a dipped cone at just melt so fast that it's running down your hand and it takes away from the entire experience. I took the kids that I was babysitting here and they enjoyed the waffle cone with sprinkles. They seem to think that Kool cones was just as good as I made it out to seem. And coming from 211 year olds that meant a lot to me. I still think it is five stars because it hits a spot after all the sun or exercise that you get in North Park read more

I'm surprised that there arent more reviews for this little ice cream shop. It's right in North Park and judging from the ice cream advertisement signs, seems as if it's been around for awhile. We stopped in last night after racing go-carts at Wildwood. I ordered a regular banana split and bobby ordered a banana fudge royal (hot fudge sundae with sliced bananas) Both desserts were a great size and tasted delicious!! bobby was surprised at the price.. under $9 for 2 big desserts. The menu had everything from sundaes, dipped cones, waffle bowl sundaes, freezees (blizzards), soft serve ice cream & who knows what else. I meant to head up to the lake afterwards but forgot. Our next trip, we'll visit the lake and stop here for ice cream afterwards. Im already looking forward to it. It seems that there is another location on Perry Hwy by the way. read more

If you like ice cream, they've definitely got your flavor. After a day in the park, ice cream was the craving of the night and luckily Kool Cones came to the rescue. A tiny outpost outside of a gas station, it's a simple walk up window stall with so many flavors and options, it took me a good five minutes to make a decision. They've got soft serve (4 base flavors + twists), frozen yogurt (with over a dozen flavor syrups), dips (six kinds), sundaes, smoothies, and so many toppings. I went with a vanilla blackberry ice cream twist with rainbow sprinkles and a cherry dip. Aesthetically, it was beautiful. And the regular size is a healthy portion of ice cream. I knew I'd like the flavor because they gave us sample beforehand. My only complaint was that I don't think they dipped it enough because the shell wasn't super hard and had a few cracks and holes, causing the ice cream to immediately start dripping. Aside from that, service was great, prices are awesome, and it's got local flavor that's missing from a lot of other ice cream vendors out there. Keep it kool! read more

After inadvertently walking the 5-mile lake loop at North Park, I needed something cold and sugary. Kool Cones is a few minutes drive from the entrance of North Park, and I loved the old school vibe of it. Kool Cones is attached next to a gas station with a few parking spots and two large tables. It has a take-out window only. I got a vanilla soft served dipped in blue raspberry on a cone. The dip smelled like blue raspberry but the taste wasn't there. The soft serve was not that sweet and not as creamy as I prefer it to be. They offer a lot of options- toppings, dippings, sundaes, shaved ice, etc. It's a safe bet if you're in the area, but I will probably stake out other options if I'm in North Park again. read more

This Kool Cones location is probably my favorite ice cream shop in the North Hills of Pgh! The soft serve is delicious and there is plenty of options on the menu. The only negative about this place is the service. Most of the employees are young girls who choose to sit on their phones rather than taking care of their customers. Other than the poor service, the extreme popularity of Kool Cones isn't going to fade anytime soon. read more

We stopped at kool cones after an evening at Wildwood Highlands. They are a pretty typical ice cream stand with all the basics you'd expect...a variety of hard ice creams, soft serve, sundaes, milkshakes, etc. The one thing that stood out to me was they had quite a few flavors of dips for cones beyond the typical cherry or chocolate. I got a vanilla soft serve with blue raspberry dip and it was so good! I'll probably come back again just for that! read more

Very good ice cream. Nice selection of desserts. I recommend the slushies they put lots of flavoring in them if you like that. It's just a nice place to sit on a bench and have an ice cream.
