Would you believe only after 2 years my "Heavy Duty" Singer Sewing Machine would not thread any more?! I thought it would be an easy fix...wrong! Brought it here after watching hours of videos on what could be wrong. The owner Jeanette, checked it out before telling me what I had feared. The cost to fix it was going to be more than a new machine - $90 to check it out and possibly $120 to fix it! Very pricey but unfortunately, this is what the going rate is. I called other sewing companies that I found here on Yelp all quoting me the same price. What a bummer. The timing was off with the bobbin hook and the needle which is why it was not threading. I decided to take my machine with me and contemplate my options. YouTube has several "fix it" videos for this issue and when I have 2 hours to focus on it, that is exactly what I plan on doing. Good thing I am handy! I appreciated her time in showing me some machines that were comparable but will take my chances. The store is very clean inside and very organized. Besides fixing machines, they have sewing classes and sell everything you will need to sew. Drove considerable time and distance to take my 1yo machine to the authorized service provider with a specific issue. When picked up a week later was told that all it needed was a 'service' (clean, lube and I'm assuming timing check). Upon using it the same day I got it back- same problem. I will give the owner credit, she did respond immediately to my email but deflected by blaming needle, thread, incorrect tension, fatigue etc. before finally saying to bring it back in (a round trip of 3:00 and 100miles). Mind you, they charged a hefty $190 and as much as it pained me to just let that go- I have no faith in their services. Long story longer, my usual trusted shop (who is not an authorized servicer for my brand machine) found the issue immediately and had it out the door in one day. Yes, I paid twice but I had my machine back, finally fixed and I'm sewing again. Two other minor notes- Sewing Machine Warehouse not only told me my machine was out of warranty (it was not) but also said that it was not designed for free motion quilting (it is the top selling point in the sales literature and on their website). Was this an attempt to get me into a new machine? We will never know as they've gotten all of the money they will ever get from me. read more

I have purchased two Brother sewing machines from Sewing Machine Warehouse. Both machines are higher end machines. I am thrilled with the sewing machines I purchased and also with the customer service at Sewing Machine Warehouse Three years ago I purchased the Brother Innovis NQ1300PRW. A female sales associate helped me pick it out. She was super patient with me and answered my zillion questions. I needed a machine that could handle a lot of layers (I make quilted fabric makeup bags) and boy this machine can! It is a workhorse, has amazing features and handles my makeup bags with ease. Two weeks ago I helped a friend purchase the same machine (now the Brother BQ1350) for his Mom. This time I worked with the owner, Scott. He was super responsive, helpful, and accommodating (we live a few hours from the store). We purchased the machine and got a great price. He then sent it UPS and my friend received it the next day! I am super happy with the pricing and the customer service at Sewing Machine Warehouse. I plan on buying a serger in the next year and I would not buy it anywhere else! read more

Took my serger to get it repaired the first time and they took almost a month to get it back to me. In the end I had to call singer my self and do their job for them. The younger staff have been friendly the last two times I went there. However, Jennifer is the rudest person ever. Such bad customer service. She talks to you like you're an idiot and has no clue what customer service is. Someone needs to pull that stick out of her a*s because she is ruining the experience. I was in the market to buy a new Juki machine and considered this place but because of Jennifer's nasty attitude I decided to take my $3k elsewhere and purchased online from Amazon. Horrible customer service! Ordered and paid for items that were not indicated online as being on backorder. One item arrived 3 weeks after I was informed of the delay and told the remaining items would ship in 4-6 weeks. Here I am at 8 weeks and still no remaining items on the order. Calling the number and asking to speak with someone in purchasing, as directed by their online FAQs, results in directions to an email address, which kept changing, and an explanation "the upfront store (answering the phone) has nothing to do with the warehouse in back." Now after having requested a refund on the remaining items, both via phone and email, I have received no response. I guess I will seek recourse through my credit card company. This place is amazing! They fixed one embroidery machine for me and sold me a 6 needle along with a bunch of accessories. Jeanette was super nice and knowledgeable as well as Jennifer and Richard (who delivered my stuff) was a complete delight. I most definitely recommend coming here for what you need however if you are just looking for a cheap machine this is not the place for you they sell higher end quality products but their price point is right in line with all the other resellers and they offer lessons on getting to know your purchase. This is a great team that's well known in the quilting scene. You see them at all the conventions, even as far away as Houston. Their visibility and reputation made it an easy choice for my wife and me to purchase multiple machines as she moved from a beginner to an expert. Of course, they handled all the tuneups and even bought back old machines as we upgraded to new and more advanced models. They have spectacular attention to detail and are used to working with quilters who are extremely concerned that the stitch quality is up to competition level--yes that's a thing lol. I was so glad to find this place because everyone I have dealt with has been extremely helpful and set me up with a fantastic new sewing machine. I bought my first sewing machine in the early Nineties to repair camping equipment, windsurfing gear, and to make a cover for the back of my station wagon -- the car that I used to tote around all of my outdoor sports gear. I soon discovered that I could also alter pants and suits -- not too hard. The one thing I hated about this machine is that it struggled with heavy fabric. I also fought with it on stretchy fabrics. I stopped using this machine after having problems with it. A house mate bought a cheap Brother sewing machine last year, and I started altering clothes that I had in my closet that I had never bothered to take to a tailor. She ended up giving me the Brother for a birthday gift because I used it a lot. Last month, I came across on Amazon a computerized machine from Singer that does 250 different kinds of stitches. A $600 machine for $285? What a deal! I got it and was able to fix tears in blue jeans and fix some heavier stuff. That is, until the belt started slipping internally in the machine after only an hour of use. I pushed the pedal and got only a whine and no needle movement. I sent it back and got a replacement machine from Amazon. That second machine lasted two hours before the same problem developed! Frustrating!! I decided to take the second machine to Sewing Machine Warehouse to be fixed. I figured there must have been an assembly problem with the batch of machines that Amazon was selling, and an authorized Singer repair person could fix it. The person I spoke with at the store explained that the model of Singer I got is loaded with features but has cheap parts internally. It is made in China and the factory has poor quality control on assembly. She said that their repair person could fix it, and the machine might possibly run well for a long while. She also explained that this machine was not meant for more than maybe three layers of denim, and was not good on heavy fabrics. She also said it was not unusual for people to come in for repairs on brand new machines that broke down. The machines sold over the Internet for great prices are usually not very good in quality. As I was about to leave, I asked what their best home machine was and what it did that the Singer wouldn't do. She showed me the Brother 4138. She folded over a piece of denim into ten layers. The machine didn't even slow down as it sewed right on through this huge stack of fabric. She also put a thin piece of fabric against the half-inch thick stack of denim and the foot walked on down and continued going on the thin fabric without missing a hitch. Very impressive. This machine can sew sideways -- something useful for hard-to-reach seams. It also does a basting stitch to tack things down temporarily. (I hate using straight pins on projects.) I thought about it for a day and decided to send back the Singer. I told them not to bother to fix it. I never dreamed I would spend $1,200 on a sewing machine, but this Brother sewing machine is unbelievable. A couple days ago, I fixed up four pairs of really torn up jeans in just an hour or so. This thing is a horse and worth every dime! I have a ton of projects that come to mind now -- a cover for an outdoor grill, a trunk cover for a car, and a bunch of shirts and pants that need to be altered. I can do it all now! And, in a fraction of the time a cheap machine would take, if it can handle it at all. The Brother came with ten different feet, and the manual doesn't explain well what all these are for. Fortunately, a person at the Sewing Machine Warehouse said I can come in anytime and have someone show me (at no cost) all that this machine can do. I am planning on taking them up on this. The guys at this store are enthusiastic about what they do, and you can tell when you walk in. I recommend this place heavily for anyone who sews. read more

I have an older Bernina which SMW serviced last year. The owner and staff seem friendly and knowledgeable, but their prices on both parts and service always seemed on the high side to me. This week I brought my Bernina in again for annual service, and mentioned that it had just started having an issue as I started to sew: when the needle lowered into the bobbin chamber, I was hearing a click. They called me the next day and said that the bobbin case was loose, and had damaged the hook, and that both parts needed to be replaced. And that this would cost over $600. I was shocked and upset and not about to invest in such a costly repair to a 30 year old machine. I retrieved my Bernina and took it over to another service shop in the valley. They could find nothing wrong with it. For $138, they serviced the machine, adjusted the timing, and now it's back home and working fine. I really don't understand such unethical business practices. read more

I called Sewing Machine Warehouse based on a Joanns employee recommendation because they did not carry what I was looking for. I needed a "Walking Foot" for my Necchi sewing machine. I called and had to wait a little bit for the person who could tell me if they had the part. I do have to say I was pleased that the lady that put me on hold did periodically come back several times to tell me he was still on another line! The man told me he was pretty sure they had a walking foot that would fit my machine & to bring my machine so he could be sure. He gave me a price range & said the 1 I needed was probably in the middle. When we got there he took 1 look at my machine & immediately got the correct foot & it was right in the middle of the price range. "Spot On"! He also helped my husband find correct vacuum cleaner bags based on a verbal description of an OLD vacuum when my husband wasn't even sure of the brand! All based on description! I only rated 4 stars because our needs were simple but I will definitely try them when 1 of my machines needs service! read more

Today I went to look over a few sergers and walked out with the Juki MO 1000 machine. I received good service and a good quality machine with a competitive price that was as good as it gets. EZ parking access and EZ exit. If an old machine is wore out and will cost more than it is worth to service I am pleased that they told me. Once a machine like anything else is worn out it is time to replace it. In the long run it will save you time and make your project pleasant and with less problems and aggravation. SEW FOR FUN. **BEWARE** SCAMMERS, FRAUD, RIP OFF, LIARS! Mom took her sewing machine in. She wanted to know what was wrong with it and what it needed in repairs, if anything. They called her and told her $300 for timing belt, gears and one other item. They told her the machine was no good and they wanted her to sell it to them for $40. She picked it up to get a second opinion and to think about it. Got home and she noticed the top of the machine was not closed properly or locked in place. We couldn't close it. Needs a tiny key to lock I guess. We called to find out why it wasn't closed. Spoke to a Spanish speaking man. We were told no one knew how to close it, but we could return with it and they would charge us to close it for us. WHAT?! Why? They couldn't close it when they were done with it? Unbelievable! Called again, spoke to a lady. The guy was with her, telling her what to say. She repeated the above info. Bring in. They would charge us to close and lock it. Idiots! Called back and spoke with Jenn. I wanted an estimate so we could search for the parts needed. Told her we picked up the machine and didn't get a quote or estimate, so how can I get one. She is the WORST person to talk to customers! She replied with, "23". 23 what? "That's the one part. I can tell you how much". I told her that's not why I was calling. I asked again if they could provide me with an estimate or quote with parts. She replied, "23 and.. well, the total is $299". Again, I told her why I was calling, and even asked her if she knew what a piece of paper was, what a quote was, an estimate? I had to ask her that same short question about 12 times. Each time, she would interrupt me and tell me the total cost of repair or some random numbers with no description. This went on for several minutes, till she finally said "we don't give estimates". Hallelujah! Finally, an answer to my question. I told her thank you for finally answering the one and only simple question I had, and hung up. DO NOT GO HERE! Search for another place, even if you have to drive, IT'S WORTH TO NOT HAVE TO COME HERE! ** UPDATE: I went to Al's Vacuum & Sewing in Lancaster. Dropped off the machine for the same issue. Few days later I got a call saying the timing was off (belt and gears were fine). Machine was serviced & oiled, but couldn't be fixed. Parts aren't made anymore. HONESTY from Al's. Again.
