After my studio was down due to the pandemic for over a year, I received the news that my art shows would be starting up again this summer. Because I hadn't been able to work for over a year my wife and I had tightened our belts. Now with the good news my wife of 57 years asked if I'd take in her sewing machine to have it cleaned up. I was told by the owner that it would cost nearly the same to clean up my machine as it would to but a new one. Since we were finally back in business, I decided to surprise her and bought new more expensive machine. Sadly two days later I was informed my shows had been canceled again and therefore I would be out of work for at least another 6 months. Having not opened the box I decided to return it in hopes of buying it again next year. I was told that there was a No Return Policy. Interesting that I was NOT told of this policy before I purchased it. It was during this stressful return process that I was told it was stated on my receipt. So they have a No Return policy on the receipt that you receive AFTER you've purchased the machine. Then it was pointed out that it was on a sign behind the register. A sign the size of a post card, 10 feet in the air on a top shelf. In the end they were magnanimous and decided they would allow me to return the machine for a 15% restocking charge. It cost me $89 to return an unopened machine, two days after I purchased it, during a PANDEMIC where people are trying to help each other out. It's not so much the money I lost, but about compassion and the understanding that unlike some businesses ( he told me he was having a great year) some people and businesses have been going through a very rough time. So, thanks for the humanity! Thank goodness he doesn't sell water during a drinking water shortage. read more

The women working here have been very helpful. However, the guy (might have been the owner, Scott everyone is referring to) has been a condescending prick. I was having a problem with my Brother sewing machine (which I have previously been helped with by the girls who work here), but when I took it to *this* guy, he was not helpful at all. After I described what the problem was, he didn't even attempt to fix it, but instead, said that the sewing machine was irreparable and that it was essentially "a toy". What? I mean, the model I have might not be the most advanced kind, but that doesn't warrant this guy belittling it by calling it "a toy" and assuming it's irreparable without having even touched it !! Besides, I was able to complete some serious projects using with this machine. This guy went on to tell about all the other sewing machines that I could buy (BUT absolutely cannot afford) to replace the one I have. I LEFT THE STORE CRYING; I was under a lot of stress trying to finish up a project due in a few days and the last thing I wanted to hear is that my sewing machine is a toy that is beyond repair. The guy obviously had an agenda to make me spend money in his store. I will not be coming back to this place, especially after I heard some excellent recommendations for other places that repair and sell sewing machines. read more

My daughter's birthday was coming up quickly and I decided to purchase a sewing machine for her since she is interested in creating costumes for our annual trip to Comic Con. After doing a quick search online I realized that sewing machines were in short supply due to the Coronavirus. Apparently baking and sewing are keeping people busy while they are staying home to avoid getting sick. On a whim I called Sewing Machine Warehouse and had an eye opening conversation with Scott about what was going on with the sewing machine market and why there was so little available. He was very patient with me, answered all my questions and gave me some options with regard to what he had available in my price range. I was left feeling my purchase of $1045 was not only not appreciated, but also put down,,, We purchased a Juki 735 serger / coverstitch machine at this store - the salesperson didn't know about this model because they didn't have it in the store. I showed it to her on Amazon and then she found it in their online store, it was a little more expensive, but since she said "we offer free unlimited lessons" we decided to purchase it from them. It took two weeks to receive it, we were excited, ready for the lessons, however, the lady was struggling with the threading of the machine, so she kept pointing out that "it's because we are 'spoiled' using the self threading machines now ($700 more and no coverstitch feature) - so the owner Scott showed up to help, and he began putting down our machine and talking about '60 second self-threading machine' - it's ok to try to sell a more expensive machine, but don't put down the one I just purchased and I'm excited about! I asked the lady how long the training would take, she looked at me with surprise and asked what I meant... so I started showing all the things she had not shown to us yet - including the important feature to us, coverstitch (she had just struggled with the threading - about an hour) - then she started struggling with that part... so she leaves for a few minutes and when she comes back she says "I was just yelled at, because I am spending all this time training you", what!!??? I said what do you mean? she says "you know, we only offer lessons when you purchase a machine from us" - uh, excuse me, who did I buy the machine from??? I guess when they order it online, it doesn't count as buying it from them... oh and there were no customers in the store, I didn't think it was necessary for her to tell me that. After another 30 minutes of struggling to figure out how to thread for coverstitch, I was frustrated and asked her to stop and pack the machine for me. As we were leaving, Scott asked me if I would like him to show me a self-threading machine!!! I understand trying to up-sell, but they way he said it, his tone, and especially after I had said that I don't have the budget for the more expensive one, it just irritated me. I will never do business with them again. read more

I give them 3 stars because they have a great technician and if you purchased your machine there and under warranty they go great work. The problem is if you didn't purchase from them or if your warranty runs out, they really rip you off. They claim to have free estimate but if you decline the estimate, they will charge you for it. I don't know how they stay in business running their business this way. My recommendation is to go to their competitor in Reseda. read more

Where there is a lack of competition, therein lies the abuse of power. I could care less about the wonderful features the Sewing Machine Warehouse has to offer, because I received none of those such features. Had my Singer sent in from San Diego per Singer's instructions and had to pay to ship my machine to them both ways. Rude customer service on phone. They did not explain if whether they had fixed my problem at all or anything - just a "We need your credit card number so you can pay for this to be shipped to you!" I'm glad I asked them how they intended on shipping it to me, because they wanted the most expensive - UPS. I had them ship it to me the way I shipped it to them - Priority, insured for $13.35. Had to call Singer again to get them to help me solve the problem after it was "repaired" by Sewing Machine Warehouse. Singer then tells me that they should not have charged me both ways for shipping and that this business has a reputation of charging people for things like this out of the blue. I have a feeling that Scott's store policies are on a T.B.A. ("to be announced") basis. That means, they feel the need to invoke their policies upon consumers AFTER all has been said....and perhaps not even done. You will be paying for things they should have explained to you in the beginning - for sure. Why not make your policies clear to customers, or explain them before a service agreement? It is their way to pocket any cash they can get! Bad rating for bad practices and bad service.The owner, Scott, is cute...yes. But not so cute when you question their "invisible" policies. He will pull a Speedy Gonzalez on you and talk over you to make sure that what you say cannot be heard. He will invoke policies as a kind of force field of protection. Now, go ahead and contradict that, Scott - since that is the best you can do for unsatisfied customers. You know a slanted business owner, who cannot even utter a single "I am sorry that you have not had a good experience with us.....blah, blah blah" Waste of time if you are not feeding them more $$$. read more

BEWARE! My Grandmother dropped off her Oreck vacuum because it needed a new belt. The lady advised her that a new belt would be $7.99 plus $15.00 to put the belt on. My grandma stated that there is a brand new spare belt located inside a compartment of this vacuum as most Orecks do. Working at a vacuum repair shop, one should know this. While granny was there the lady tried to 'up sell' her into a new $400 vacuum cleaner. My grandma kindly declined. She called the shop 4 days after dropping off the lady said "it's not done yet but it will be $35". My grandma said "I'm not paying that -I'm coming to pick up". So my grandma shows up and the lady says "it's in pieces I can't give it to you, wait for 45 minutes." My grandma was on her way to a doctor appointment so she couldn't wait. The next day my grandma had her daughter pick up the vacuum because my grandma is 83 and was feeling like she was getting ripped off. Mind you she recently had a stroke and can be easily triggered. My aunt picked up the machine and dropped it off to my grandmas. The next day my mom ended up repairing her vacuum for her, it turns out it was never even opened or taken apart. The belt had simply slipped off the roller and didn't even need to be replaced. My mom noticed this before taking it apart. How disappointing!! A local shop you think you can count on to repair your house hold appliance, not rip you off. How awful to rudely take advantage of someone. Breaks my heart! read more

Sewing Machine Warehouse has the most disgusting return policy- ALL SALES ARE FINAL. No refunds, no exchanges with unopened items. This was not made clear to me. The associate I dealt with pressured me into making a purchase, claiming that he had the lowest price around. He told me to compare prices online to check. I took his word for it (silly me), and when I got home, I found them on Amazon, for $18 less. I was lied to and grossly overcharged. When I made a phone call to check on the return policy today, I was informed of their atrocious policy. I was also overcharged for a sewing machine repair months before. Don't give this place your business- they are irresponsible crooks. read more

Like talking to the people at Upland Vacuum and Sewing. Unfortunately, they are a bit too far to me. Would have to agree with the others about Rosalie. I really wish that I could give a better rating because a couple of the employees are really great, but because of a few it is a place I dread going. The repair division is awful and they have yet to fix the issue with my sewing machine even though I have paid them over $700. The last incident is the reason I will not be going back. It has been in the shop three times now because the reverse button does not work. When I went to pick up the machine I was told that it was fixed and that there was a parts charge for pieces that were replaced less than a year ago, none of the replaced parts had anything to do with the issue that the machine was brought in for. The first set of these parts lasted well over 20 years and every time I have brought the machine in over the last 5 years they replace the same parts, so I was a little suspicious. The parts that were removed from the machine were not returned and when I asked for the damaged parts they called their tech who went to the back room and appeared with parts that were well worn, however, the wear was far more than it should have been on any parts from my machine as it is a back up machine and rarely used. I just had to pull the machine out again as my big machine had to go to the shop and to my surprise the reverse issue has not been fixed. While it was there they did not even take the time to clean the lint from the upper portion of the machine, the tension was incorrect on both the top and bobbin and it was the bobbin race and bobbin case that they said they replaced. I would assume that if you put in new parts, the absolute least you would do is make sure it was at it's optimum working ability before it left your shop. When I have brought it back, there is always a promise of them fixing the issue, it just seems like it is an impossible task for them and since their repair tech can't figure it out he just throws parts at the machine so they can charge me for something. It's unfortunate, but they lost the sale on a very expensive upgrade in my sewing room because of their poor service and pushy sales staff. read more

I have done quite a bit of "small" business with SMW over the past several months and they have always been helpful and courteous, especially Jennifer, Scotty, June and Evan. They are always eager to help me accomplish what I went there for and give good advice when I wasn't sure how to do something with my sewing machine. Bought a Topaz 20, paid $499 for a 3yr extended warranty including parts and labor. So nice when they want to make a sale, we brought it in to get a new bobbin holder. Wife has accidentally dropped it when she was cleaning it. Scott said it wasn't covered because of abuse. Abuse? $35 part? So we bought it at Joann's. They call us saying they'd like to renew another 3yrs. So Scott fought us tooth and nail over $35 so he lost out on $499. They seem very rigid and "tight" on their discounts and it tends to be a trying experience talking with them because they always remind you it's because of your mistakes, not theirs. Ok to buy thread there. Misc parts tend to be marked up pretty high compared to Joann's in Palmdale. If you want brand new Husqvarna buy at Joanne's. They have more reasonable warranty there. Palmdale Joanne's has Husqvarna department and the lady there is more pleasant to speak with. But buying thread is ok there. They sell Madeira thread. read more

I have had terrible experiences at "sewing machine repair" places before and am so glad to find a wonderful place with wonderful people who are not only nice but intelligent, knowledgeable, and helpful. I have now bought a sewing machine, and overlock machine, software and countless feet and accessories from this shop. I plan on continuing to throw my money at them with a smile on my face. Jennifer is blunt and hilarious. When I brought a crappy overlock in for repair she let me know what I knew deep down, my machine was crap. She explained why and let me know where I might want to upgrade when I was ready. Not pushy about the sale, just helpful. Within a week I was the proud new owner of a new Overlock! Recently, I expressed interest in learning how to digitize embroidery files so I spoke with a lot of the people here about which program would be best for me. After I bought it and played with it at home, I had a LOT of questions! I was able to come in for a quick lesson where Jennifer sat down with me and walked me through digitizing a design. This place is sewing heaven! I went in for a pretty basic machine, but they also sell these crazy high tech machines that do things I didn't even know were possible. The staff is super knowledgeable and don't try to upsell you, which is nice, considering how many expensive products they have. I oversee a large tailorshop within a mens clothing store locally. Unfortunately we changed vendors for tailoring supplies and lost the ability to order industrial strength pinking shears and started to recieve a more arts and crafts style shear instead. Took several pairs of scissors to be sharpened. Jennifer helped me and made sure they were done correctly and while I waited! I tested them when I got home and am floored with the difference the sharpening made. I will be making quarterly trips to them to have all my shears sharpened and probably look into other services and products they offer! read more

They where charging me $160 dollars to repair my sewing machine. When brand new at the store is $100.00 simply ridiculous.

This place is awesome. Scott knows sewing machines inside and out. Before you buy one make sure you stop by and talk to them to learn what's out there and what is right for you. They have an incredible display of all kinds of machines from simple to mind boggling. I'm a guy and I love going there to see all the high tech machines that are out there and what you can do. It's amazing how much more you can do easier, with less problems and make your projects fin when you have the right machine and the right knowledge. I bought a used Bernina 830 sewing machine here in October. Now that I have tested out all the functions, I can say that buying it from Sewing Machine Warehouse was one of the best decisions I could have made. Aside from the deal I got, I loved the quality and functions this sewing machine has. The store had in their showroom all the brands I was interested in trying and evaluating. The owner and staff were very patient and informative in showing me all the different machines with the bells and whistles I was looking for. I only wish they had a business like this near the San Gabriel Valley area where I live so I wouldn't have to come to the North Hills to have my sewing machine serviced. read more

I came to Sewing Machine Warehouse on the recommendation of a friend. I'm so happy I did. I originally took my 30 year old Viking in for service. As I suspected, the machine could not be fixed (not a huge problem because I have 4 other machines at home). I went to pick it up and started talking to one of the ladies and ended up leaving my old machine and buying a new embroidery only machine. 4 Days later I received an email stating they were having a sale. They were nice enough to issue me a refund for the machine based on the sale price. I also purchased another item from there while I was there about the refund. Everyone one in the store was so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I have a sewing machine place closer to were I live, but will now be a SMW customer for life. read more
