I can't believe I found Eliza in a pool of bridal stores and alteration specialists. I had purchased a budget friendly wedding dress. It's a designer a-line gown, but was labeled as a bridesmaid dress, and more affordable, so I was not about to pay $400-500 for alterations. However, with that being said, alterations are REALLY important so I wanted to find someone with experience who had fair pricing. Eliza was very professional and warm. She makes you feel very comfortable and really cares about doing a great job for clients. Her studio is in an apartment and that probably helps her to keep the cost down for her services. My dress was two layers of fabric and so it was a tad more difficult to take in. It did not need to be shortened. She offered advice regarding undergarments. She did an outstanding job. Eliza is awesome and is making my young dreams come true! :D So, when I was in high school, I had a dream...Being heavily into video games and anime, I always loved the character costumes and wished they were real. Then I learned they could be...through cosplay. Back then, it was not a financially feasible thing (sh*t ain't cheap) but then I became an adult with my own income and my dream never died. An absolutely abysmal experience with this company. The best advice I can give you is to steer clear. Usually when I see a 1 star review among many 5 stars I discount it as a one off and hope it's an anomaly. For your sake, if you do choose to use this company I really hope that you are right! But my sincere opinion is to not take the risk. There are many other companies out there that are more reliable. Context: We had an extremely important shirt order (90 pieces) that we offered to 6 NYC companies. Sewwhatandwear had good reviews and were very keen on taking the order - so we proceeded with them. The worst thing possible then happened: the day the order was due for its guaranteed delivery, with no warning, they cancelled the entire thing. Simply put, they made multiple errors on their side that led to them not having enough time to complete our order - and so they had no choice but to cancel. On the morning of the delivery day they had 0/90 shirts printed. Countless hours and effort gone into shirt design, order forms and administration all went down the drain by trusting the wrong company. Do not make the same mistake! read more

I called this business yesterday and explained that I needed two simple shirts printed. The gentleman that answered the phone stated the shirts could be ready in 4 four days. I go in person the very next day to see the shirts the images would be printed on and the gentleman says there's no way the shirts will be ready in 4 days. Inconsistent and unprofessional *a response to the comment left by the owner* You asked me to change my review and rating. I explained that I would not be changing my review or rating. When I called on Sunday I said I would go to your location the very next day to which you did not contest. I am a polite and amicable individual and as such, our meeting went well. However, I feel the service I received was inconsistent. I was very inconvenienced when you mentioned that the shirts would not be ready by Friday when on the phone you said the shirts would be ready by THURSDAY. Although I did not provide an image when I arrived to your location on Monday you made it very clear the shirts would not be ready regardless. Why would I bother to send an image after our meeting? I made an appointment with Eliza for my wedding dress alterations based on the reviews I read here, and I'm so glad that I did. I just picked up my dress today, and it fits like a glove. I have never felt so secure in a dress before - even with straps, and this one is strapless - and the length hit perfectly. Eliza is clearly extremely experienced with not just fit but also design, and when I was on the fence on certain alterations, she offered her opinion, which was very helpful. Eliza does one-on-one appointments, so you don't feel like you're being rushed out to get more people in, and you don't feel like your concerns are being dismissed or that there are decisions not being explained to you, which I find can happen sometimes at other places. You definitely feel taken care of. On top of the skill and the service, her prices were excellent, her hours are great, and her turnaround time is very fast. I paid $180 for several changes - not just a hem - and although I didn't get other quotes, I don't think I really needed to. (I expected it to be much more than that from what I've heard from friends about bridal alterations.) In the future, I plan to come to Eliza for all my alterations. read more

Eliza is fantastic. I found an Oscar de la Renta sample gown and fell in love, but I knew it would need some love. The tulle was torn, the side stitching was coming undone and and the invisible neckline needed to be adjusted. Eliza went above and beyond. Not only did she fix the tears, adjust the entire top and hem the hand-embroidered skirt, but she redisigned the tulle belt and added a bow to make it look more finished. Found this place on Yelp and booked an appointment with Eliza because she kept late hours (which was great since my work schedule is so erratic). I had to get my wedding dress altered. It's actually more of an evening gown and needed pretty standard alterations, in my opinion -- needed to be hemmed quite a bit and take in at the bust and shoulder just a smidgen. Simple alterations but it's still nerve-wracking taking your wedding dress to a tailor you've never used before. BUT Eliza was wonderful. She altered my dress PERFECTLY and it now looks like it was custom made just for me. Her seams are undetectable and flowed with the dress so they don't look wonky or out of place. She was also very mindful of how to adjust the bust so it wasn't TOO tight and so I didn't get the dreaded under-arm bulge!!!!! Also, since the dress has a short train, she sewed in a tiny clasp along the inside seam that picks the train up to make it easier to walk. Completely her idea -- I didn't even know this existed! She had the dress done in two weeks, well in advance for my wedding. She also gave me the extra fabric she trimmed off so I can use it in the future -- a really thoughtful touch. Eliza is SOOOO sweet and she took me last minute for an alteration. I needed the bust taken in on my dress ( I found her Wednesday and needed it done by Friday for a friends surprise party). I was not aware that I had to make an appointment but she squeezed me in after work Wednesday and had my dress done by Thursday and she did such an AMAZING job.
