One of the safest communities in the bay. 23 square miles, 12.5 square miles of which is water. 78k+ population - Although they are continuing to build aggressively on the ex-naval base. The best part of the island is that there is only XXXX amount of land so it can hopefully NOT get over crowded. Atmosphere - Beaches - Alameda Beach, Crab Cove, Crown, Encinal, etc. Water sports - Kayak, kite surfing, swimming, jet skiing, boating, etc. Harbor Bay, parks, lagoons, trails, volleyball, tennis, skate parks, dog parks, marinas, cycling, etc. Ex-navy base (1997) - Spirit Alley - Distilleries, breweries, wineries, etc. Too many to name! Annual events - Farmer's markets, fairs, festivals, parades, Blue Angels, etc. Museums, art & culture, etc. Beautiful Victorian homes. Amazing views of SF. 3 bridges and tunnels to get on and off of the island. Near Oakland, SF, Coast Guard Island, etc. Service - Ferries - To SF, Oakland, etc. One of the best ways to travel. Alameda is so cool. Everyone I've ever met who lives here always says it's a great place to live,…read moreand everyone I've ever met who used to live here say they miss something or other about life on the island. And what an island it is. Except that it's technically three islands, or portions thereof: Alameda Island, Coast Guard Island, and Bay Farm Island. And I was lying again, because as far as I can tell, Bay Farm Island is not an island. It may have been an island at one time, but it's now more of a peninsula connected to Oakland; it also includes Oakland International Airport or whatever its dumb name is now. And the other fun fact is that the very southwestern tip of Alameda Island is technically part of San Francisco. That's right; when they were drawing up San Francisco's crazy borders, which unlike other Bay Area cities' borders often include all kinds of water nowhere near the land portion of San Francisco, they drew this diagonal line that happened to clip the corner of Alameda Island. That's why San Francisco voting returns always include zero votes for East Bay candidates--it's technically possible that someone could live on that corner and be eligible to vote in San Francisco, but it has never happened. The City of Alameda is so strange and weird and magical and wonderful and fake and real and beautiful and safe and salty and many other adjectives. There's the museum aircraft carrier USS Hornet and all these weird industrial experiments going on on the western end of the island, where the naval air station used to be. And there are all these new homes being developed close by. Then there are the lovely old homes on the island, and the coolest part might be the eastern end of the island south of the High Street Bridge, because these just feel like regular only 1950s and '60s neighborhoods, and then you happen upon Eastshore Drive, and the backyards of very normal-looking suburban houses happen to abut the bay! You already know about the tunnels and the Pacific Pinball Museum--a must visit--from my other reviews. Or you should. go read and click on them. Plus there are some great restaurants out here. And Coast Guard Island is funny; it's part of the City of Alameda, but its only connection to land is to Oakland itself. In order to get to the rest of Alameda, you either have to drive through Oakland to one of the tubes or to Bay Farm Island, or you have to get across narrow Brooklyn Basin somehow. Preferably by boat, I would say, but swimming and helicoptering would work just fine too. Oh, and those weird lagoons are perfectly strange. I didn't know what they were for, and I was annoyed that only the people who owned property near them could use them recreationally, but then I learned that they are partially used for storm drainage retention and water treatment, so those people playing in them probably shouldn't be! How perfect.

It's a landmark for the locals where we'll always use this as an indicator for giving out directions to our friends and family, "Once you exit the freeway, you'll see the forestation, and then you turn left/right..." It's good to have a quiet FireStation in your neighborhood. It's presence makes us feel protected and I've never heard a siren from them so far.

Yes there are definitely nice houses in this area. Known as a rich affluent area. Predominantly white population. You see people jogging around the park. Train runs through here and there's a station near the library. Food trucks meet up on Wednesday's. Obama likes coming to Atherton when he's in the area. I would bet definitely safer here than let's say Oakland. Businesses definitely close early around here. Recreation park center by the library is quite extensive with a skate park, plenty of grassy fields, tennis, swimming, basketball courts, and more. Ducks in the pond. Careful of cops pulling people over especially on Spring Break or holidays on Willow Rd and Middlefield. OVERALL: rich looking city with no sidewalks on most streets making it hard to walk everywhere. It's A OK in my book. Not the most exciting city. A small rich town feel and plenty of trees.

Nothing but lavish estates, hidden far from the view behind high fences with secure gates and mile-long driveways, nestled along tree-lined, shaded roads... The six square miles of town are covered in native live oaks, white oaks, cedars, redwoods, pines, bays, and other trees. Strictly residential and one of the wealthiest cities in the United States. Barbara Hershey's character in Beaches (with Bette Midler), a privileged rich debutante and heiress from SF, grew up at the family estate - where else? you think? in Atherton, of course! As wealthy San Franciscans traveled south and established summer homes, what is now known as Atherton was born. The town incorporated on September 12 of 1923. Atherton is as exclusive as it is conservative, its residents don't want you to wonder around without the need. Google the median house price for Atherton and check out the list of America's most expensive ZIP Codes, and you'll instantly know what I mean. 94027 was No. 1 in 2013, '14, and '15 (the list comes out in the fall). In comparison, Beverly Hills is "only" No. 14.

Restaurants abound all over from the simple to the chic. Whether your cruising down El Camino or Santa Cruz Avenue, the choices are plentiful. Pizza, Chinese, French, sandwiches - you name it. Menlo Park has a large variety of foods from around the world and I never tire of trying new restaurants. And if you don't have time for a sit down meal, there's a huge Draeger's Supermarket in Stanford Mall, one of the largest and newest Safeway's on El Camino, Nak's Oriental Market for fresh fish, and Chavez Supermarket for a Spanish flare. If you like little shops with local goods, Santa Cruz Avenue is the place to stroll. Runners High, Cheeky Monkey Toys and Bubble are just a few of the local stops along this much travelled road. There are a multitude of parks for the family or adventurer. My favorite is the Bayfront Park which offers a scenic walk for the nature lover or spectacular run for the hard core athlete. If you make it to Menlo Park, be sure to drive through the Menlo Hills and look at some of the lovely homes on the west side. They will impress even the pickiest home admirer. My only complaint about this charming little town is their Art & Wine Festival ranks as the worst on the Peninsula with a paltry offering of one type of generic wine, but otherwise the city has so much to offer. So make your way to Menlo Park for lunch, dinner or a weekend shopping trip.

I believe the Yelp listing has its address in Redwood City because the area is managed by the County of san Mateo. I have been to this area many times, and I always thought I was in Daly City. The town limits are irregular, so its hard to know when you're coming in or leaving Broadmoor. There does seem to be a difference when you're in the town. The streets seem less maintained, and some areas have no sidewalks. But unlike other unincorporated towns, Broadmoor has a police dept. That's what got me interested in learning about this place. Last night I was parked across the street from the police station. I saw the sign, and thought....."why doesn't that say Daly City Police Dept?" Well, some call Broadmoor Village a neighborhood of Daly City. 4100-4500 people call Broadmoor home.
