Love Peter's Bakery on Alum Rock... their Burnt Almond Cake was to die for. Traffic wasn't so bad then as it is now. Went back recently and revisited our old home and I could hardly remember how it looked with all the changes especially on Capitol Expressway where improvements were being done between the SR 87/Capitol Expressway interchange and Narvaez Avenue. It was a mess. In the past one could see Reid-Hillview Airport, Eastridge Mall and even Lake Cunningham Park now there's a Mercedes Benz dealership on the corner and a strip mall plaza on the opposite side of Tully Road. In the past we've revisited and returned for a tour at the Winchester Mystery House (2018) and watched Shen Yun (2020) at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. And just for fun we recently stopped by some of the tech companies situated in the heart of Silicon Valley from Cisco to Adobe, eBay, Roku (streaming service), PayPal, Zscaler, McAfee were some of them... It is starting to be over the top. 20 minutes to get from one side of town to the other, let alone these annoying driverless cars merging into traffic and weaving in and out..that is scary, hello! CITY OF MT VIEW YOU ARE BUILDING WAY TO MUCH. I am capitilizing this in case you cannot read or see. We do not have the infastructure..way too many people, not enough land. You need to follow the suit of towns like Los Altos and Menlo Park and S Bay like Los Gatos. You are making this over the top. You really need to listen up. Are you building so much to pay the exorbitant city salaries of your employees? There is not enough infastructure here to support what you are trying to do, wake up call.

There's a wide variety of eateries (just know that some of them close for a lunch break) and boba places and sweets places which is nice, as well as a local mom and pop owned market, a book store, gift shops, and the pop up for local independent artists. It's pretty lively on weekends with lots of people walking around, students busking, families hanging out, there's a ping pong table, and it's nice that they close down part of the middle roadway so pedestrians can walk easier and much more willy nilly, as well as opportunities for al fresca dining. Food options that I saw were Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese (from many regions), Indian, Mexican, American, Mediterranean, and much more. They got a sizeable Ume Tea here as well and if it weren't so busy, I'd stop by either of the 2 patisseries they had. Also, random, but I liked how they used that one storefront just to highlight what looks like a child's research project on penguins. Super cute!

Saratoga is a historic town in the South bay …read more It is known for its winery ,restaurants and historic landmarks like Villa Montalvo , Mountain winery , and Hakone gardens . It had a population of 31,051 at the 2020 census. We visited on a Sunday afternoon like 5 pm . Had an early dinner there and then walked around the main street . The parking lot was almost full but we managed to find a spot. It was peaceful and quiet surrounded by many good restaurants. I enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and nice decor everywhere. Many flowers were blooming and the plants and trees were planted around the restaurants . A enjoyable leisure walk .

At first, I bristled at this seemingly unfair taxation, but over the years, I've come to truly appreciate what Robb Ratto and the Park Street Business Association do for local merchants on a daily basis (especially when I compare what the equivalent association doesn't do for local merchants in Montclair Village!!) Robb is a great advocate for merchants with local government, finds ways to bring marketing and facade improvements to us, and puts on several successful street fairs (Art and Wine, Car Show, etc) every year, that bring in thousands of folks from off the Island. He's the first guy I call when I have an administrative question, and he always knows what's going on in town. Minus one star because their website hasn't been updated in what seems like a decade.

I worked three blocks away over the years and never realized this building with so much history was…read moreright under my nose. The James R. Browning U.S. Courthouse is a National Historic Landmark was opened in 1905 and is considered one of America's most beautiful public buildings with its Beaux-Arts Classical architecture. It served as the main post office and courthouse and even survived the 1906 earthquake with only fire damage to the Redwood Room, hence it reopened two days later. However, the 1989 earthquake caused serious damage and Congress authorized $91mil for the retrofitting and rehabilitation of the building. It reopened in 1997 with modern HVAC, electrical and plumbing, rendering it to the standards of a new building, which now houses the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. A 70 minutes free docent led tour is offered twice a month on Tuesdays at 1pm during the Spring and Summer, otherwise once a month. Upon entering, you see the grandeur of the bronze doors, white Carrara marble on floors and walls, verde marble insets, vaulted ceilings, with marble tiles crafted by craftsmen from Italy. The postal customer service windows have been left in place. A new library building was built in the postal sorting area, which is accessed on the first floor. The four courtrooms are on the second and third floors and each have their own distinctive designs and sizes of Art Deco, marble, artwork, mosaics, woodwork and skylights. The docent will lead a tour into each courtroom unless court is in session. The Redwood Room was rebuilt after 1906 earthquake fire is completely clad in ornately clad redwood and was used as a library. Open a door and you will see books in shelves. We also saw the office used by visiting Supreme Court Justices and the chambers of Chief Justice Sidney Thomas. Remember to stop by the Information Room by the entrance for info on Justice James Browning and the Court. Highly recommend visiting this historical courthouse and be transported to the past to see architecture, design, materials and craftsmanship that you won't see in your modern buildings.
