I recently had a terrible experience, in which I was burglarized three times over the course of about seven weeks. The thieves took the locks off my windows, they made copies of my keys, and they actually managed to poison me.. and now that I'm getting better I'm discovering more and more egregious things the thieves did, and so I've been on the phone with them a lot, a lot a lot, every time I discover one more thing that's been damaged or taken and they have been so nice, so kind and so helpful. I really can't thank them enough. A great station with very good people. Mayor Breed, get off your duff and hire the personnel they need! They are all doing the job of 2 or 3 officers. The good reviews are all fake because the SFPD officers from Richmond station are definitely not there to do police work for the community. My car was stolen and I provided the information regarding who has stolen the car that I paid for and had DMV registration and title proving ownership. The SFPD officers never retrieved my vehicle. The SFPD officers need to be investigated into corruption because they are definitely involved with the crime that is occurring in San Francisco. Not one San Francisco resident especially in Richmond district would have good reviews because SFPD officers don't provide any assistance to local citizens. read more

I had the misfortune of a kind act turn me into the perfect victim. I had to call the Richmond Station for their assistance in removing a worker I allowed to live in my garage who refused to leave as I was trying to sell my house. Even though they informed me of the law that protects squatters and not home owners, after two hours of negotiating with my squatter he voluntarily left. They really saved the day and I can get on with showing my house for sale. They were polite and endured my ranting. They did a great job and I'm so relieved. On Tuesday 4/11/23 I reported to Sgt Hallisy that my valuable mandolin had been dropped from my scooter basket on Turk St between 3:30-4:00 PM. He spent over an hour searching his data base for any lost articles fitting that description. I said that I wanted to donate $50 for the work he had done given to the station where it might be used to best effect in future cases like mine. He said that it had to be cleared administrately by an office downtown that dealt with requests for donations to a a particular substation. In any event, he treated me with the utmost courtesy, and made suggestions as to where I might look for further assistance. In my opinion he was what a good officer should be, and he did his investigation even while the police force had recently had its budget slashed. Thieves attempted to break into my garage and I went to the Richmond District police station to file a report. Officer McKenzie was on duty. He was courteous, extremely helpful, patient and very pleasant. I showed him video of the incident and he helped me with details that I didn't notice. Officer McKenzie made a negative event less stressful. I appreciate the professionalism that Officer McKenzie demonstrated and he embodies what is good about the SFPD. read more

We hear a blood-curdling scream from our neighbor, then: "You're hurting me!". We freak and call 911. Based on the dispatcher's tone, I honestly don't expect anyone to show up, and we sit around listening to the neighbor's shower, entertaining paranoid visions of someone cleaning up a crime scene. Out, damned spot! Twenty minutes later, the phone rings: it's the dispatcher, asking if I can come down to speak to the police, who are waiting outside. Boy, are they ever: four cruisers are haphazardly pulled up at our tiny intersection and about seven cops are milling around, thumbs in belts, when I come out of the building. I walk up to the sergeant and introduce myself -- he's about six foot three, distinguished and Irish looking in a classic cop way. The others sort of gravitate in around me, which is mildly creepy. The sergeant starts asking about why I made the call. My girlfriend and I lived in a walkup in NY, and for a time we had a young woman living below us who had an ongoing - and supremely dysfunctional - relationship with her boyfriend. One particular incident ended with the cops showing up after a report of a fight. Boyfriend had a steak knife sticking out of his back. He refused to press charges. We'd call the cops when it started sounding bad after that. I told the sergeant that this was why we called up. He listens. Then one of the cops says, politely: "You did the right thing calling us. But we just thought you should know . . . that there isn't a problem." I ask, "Are you sure?" He says, "Yes. We spoke to the couple." At this point, all of the cops faces go -- well, the only way I can describe it is that their faces go flat. The sergeant looks at me intently with this totally flat expression and -- I shit you not -- says, as if he's said it a million times : "It was 'intimate play'." Um. Okay, this is San Francisco. I live a stone's throw from the city's most sexually overcharged neighborhood. I like to think of myself as, ahem, a 'man of the world'. But to hear this fifty -something peace officer slide that phrase off his tongue so casually makes me and my girlfriend (who has by this point joined us) feel like we've just stumbled off the bus from Hooterville. It is also hysterically funny. And the cops clearly think so too because they're trying to make their faces unreadable. We find ourselves doing the same thing. We ask some further questions to assure ourselves that the, ahem, 'intimate play', is just that. The cops give us just enough dirt to convince us, and then we politely shuffle back into our building. Props to our local blue knights for a quick response, for knowing difference between deviant and dangerous (I hope), and for being professional and diplomatic . . . at least until they drive away . . . read more

Lazy, sooooo lazy. How dare I bother them to file a police report? Should I have let them sit there all night in the office? I walked in to file police report for identity theft. I was instructed by the DMV and also by the Credit Bureau to file a report with my local law enforcement. This officer (12/11/16, night shift) kept trying to find a reason not to complete a report. Immediately starts off by saying that it's a long and tedious process and completing an investigation with results was very low. I reassure him that I just need a simple report so that I can provide a copy to the federal agencies. He stated I need every single copy of credit card statement under my name to file a full report. I told him it's fraud it wouldn't come to my address. The 25 pages of credit card letters and my Transunion Credit Report wasnt sufficient???? End of story: I told him that I would go to another Station to file a report and that I was very disappointed that my local police department (that I grew up visiting as a kid) wouldn't spend 15 minutes trying to help me. These guys really don't get enough credit. The other day, when a squad car pulled me over on my bike for cruising through a red light in the TL, I felt safe in the presence of the city's finest, while people with bayonets tied to shotguns were staging coups over on 24th. As I watched a hooker getting stabbed in the heart, and a car actually dragging a person, I thanked my lucky stars that Officer Serpico was taking the time to inform me how "reckless" and "stupid" I was acting. He was careful with his words, calling me "hotshot" and an "ass". I was kind of surprised when he didn't drop the n-bomb in there, but I understand that a firm hand is oftentimes the best medicine. Riding away on my bike, past Jon Benet Ramsey's parents who were burning an American flag, I smiled, knowing that Lieutenant Frank Drebin was off pulling over cyclists and writing open container tickets to the SF youth--the real bad guys. Thank you Donnie Brasco, for making sure those jaywalkers get their just deserts. Your response time is unerring, like that of a mailman, or a sandwich delivery person. Driving home from work and pull into my driveway. I take the exact same route everyday. As I step out of my car in my drive way SFPD decides to pull into driveway and shine their lights on me. I'm confused but want to see what the officer wants. "Why were you driving so fast back there?" "Where sir?" "You were the one speeding up the hill and almost lost control of your car?!" (Referring to the hill from the Great Highway up the Cliff House and onto Point Lobos/Geary.) "No sir. I came from the other direction from downtown." "Yeah you were the guy who tried to make a quick turn at the light and lose me." "No sir I'm sorry. It wasn't me." "Give me your drivers license." "Sure..." I hand my license over. I've have no moving violations, ever. No unpaid tickets. No wants or warrants. Whatever. "Well if it was you you're getting away with it." "Sir I'll tell you strait to your face it wasn't me." "Yeah drive slower." First of all I drive a Prius. Having it race uphill along the Cliff House is ridiculous. Secondly if you let a Prius completely dust you, uphill, while you are in a V8 Crown Victoria you need to retake your EVOC. According to this cops story I would have had to make a gain of over 6 city blocks, all uphill while accounting for stopping and signalling at an intersection. I've either got a rocket in my little hybrid or this cop can't drive. Thirdly you had nothing. You knew it. The only way you were getting anything was if I threw myself on the ground and confessed to speeding. Saying you saw the exact same car with the exact same rims won't hold up anywhere IF ITS THE MOST POPULAR SELLING CAR IN THE MOST POPULAR SELLING COLOR WITH STOCK RIMS. Useless is how I would describe them. I used to work for the police so I always give them the benefit of the doubt, but in this case they were horrible. Our apartment was broken into at the beginning of the month. The officers who arrived were nice, but that's where any type of concern or caring ended. A few days later I brought in some supplemental paperwork with serial numbers, etc. and when I arrived at the station the officer on duty was a tool. I walked up to the window and said "hi, I've got some paperwork I need to hand in" and his response was "yeah", glared at me and then slowly made his way to the window as though it was causing him great pain. He then complained that I had the old form, which has the wrong mailing address and that I should have mailed it in. I explained that the officers that responded told me I could mail it in or bring it to the station and that I used the form that the person who answered the phone, at their station, directed me too. I was also told by the responding officers that the investigative team would contact us over the next couple of days, but no one did and it's been a month. Last week one of my stolen iPad popped up online with the address of where it was. I've left 2 voicemails with the investigative unit (they never answer the phone) and no one called me back. Awesome investigating! Overall I would say that they are useless and I hope I never have to deal with them again. I wasn't going to post here but after reading the other reviews I wanted to add this in. I don't think the Richmond cops do anything about traffic violations unless they are doing a sting. One day we were trying to take a left off Geary. We stopped in the turn lane and there were 2 people in the median waiting to cross. We stopped, the car next to us stopped. We waited. The people were just looking into the street but not stepping off. After 30 seconds I said what are we waiting for, they're not going. My husband agreed and took the turn in front of them, A second later a cop has appeared out of nowhere SCREAMING out his window to pull over NOW stop the car RIGHT NOW! My husband pulled over and the cop comes to the window and asks if he saw those pedestrians. My husband says "Yes, but" and the cop says "I don't want to hear it, license & registration" and wouldn't let either of us say a word. He gave him a ticket with no price. A few days later he got a letter in the mail saying it was $235!! We're on a fixed income, we did nothing wrong, those people had not even stepped off the curb, so he went to court to fight it. Got there and the pedestrians were there to testify against him, it was a sting! The judge was lenient since it was his 1st moving violation in nearly 20 yrs. They fined him $101 and made him go to traffic school (another $100ish) such crap However, I am a pedestrian 99% of the time, I walk the neighborhood with my toddler. And not a SINGLE day goes by when a driver doesn't break a law right in front of me, like almost killing us in the crosswalk because they don't have a stop sign. Try crossing any corner without a stop sign, California & 3rd. Fulton & 5th. You will have 10-20 cars that don't stop for pedestrians. Take a walk down Clement. You will have at least 1 or 2 cars that try to hit you while turning (I have been witness to a hit & run and a hit & stop on Clement before) Where the hell are they when people are truly breaking the law and putting REAL pedestrians at risk??? read more

It's also (shockingly) NOT the address of the Main Post of the SFPD. So... Now then, let's all delete the ones that are posted on the wrong page.... and look at the ONLY 5 star review that isn't by me... It also happens to be the only one that is for this office, in the Inner Richmond. Funny eh? The Richmond police are top notch. They keep me safe, and are respectful. I haven't had this much reverence for the police since I was a kid, or from when I lived in London. I am sure nobody who can actually change anything about the SF police department will actually read this, where Richmond district is concerned at least. I witness a violent fight near a restaurant. One of the people was delusional and tripping on something, walking in front of moving cars and buses, swinging fists. He's lucky the bus stopped literally couple feet from him. He runs back and forth on the block. I call and try to explain what happened to the dispatcher. She talks rudely and dismissively. Asks questions like "where is he now?" I told her at least twice that he is walking back and forth across the intersection. I've described everything to her specifically. She acts dumb and says "well if you see the fight happen again, call and tell us." That's just insane. I know how police works and she should never dismiss a call like that. I mean, I call them and literally do them a favor by describing what is happening, what the people look like and she acts like Interrupted her dinner and doesn't say that any car will check it out. In the past SF police responded more or less as expected. Said they'll check something out. This time the response is just insane. read more

I have never had a lot of faith that police would come when I needed them. In other cities, when I really needed them, they either were not there, or they seemed like something I should avoid. These guys are awesome. I've been lucky so far, and have not really needed their help. However, they have been totally responsive over the years to dorky "those kids are out of control!" cries for help. I regularly see them doing things that are actually what they are supposed to do, and doing it with incredible patience and calm. Then today, and frankly, this is what the five star review is really for, I got picked up on by one of SF's finest! Totally not icky, totally not scary, totally just lifted me up out of the doldrums. The SFPD is the worst police department of any place I have lived. Here is why I think this: ~@20% solve rate for murders. You can literally get away with murder in SF pretty easily. - Expensive bike stolen from my garage in the marina when my landlord mistakenly left the door open for a bit. The homes in this area are all multi-million dollar homes, and car break-ins happen regularly. If the rich areas aren't safe, I'd hate to live in a poor area! - Cops wasting time giving out bullshit tickets. I got one last summer because someone had stepped into the crosswalk on the other side of the street, and the guy behind me also went across the road since he also thought it was clear. Cop gave both of us tickets. - I am moving and needed to get the signs put out so that people don't park where the moving truck will be. Cops give me the runaround and don't help at all despite repeated attempts. Summary - they aren't serving and they aren't protecting, so IMO, they aren't doing their jobs. One star. We actually had to call police after a neighbor's ex-roommate's boyfriend tried breaking into our apartment. They came very quickly, parked the car away from the house and ran, with guns drawn (!), to catch the idiot who by then successfully broke into our neighbor's apartment looking for his girlfriend. The officers explained to us the next steps we could take, and asked if we wanted to press charges. They put the guy in jail to sober up and suggested to file a restraining order if he came back in the future. I'm just very glad to know that when called, they responded quickly and took care of a potentially dangerous situation. read more

I love the Rich... I would prefer to live in this district ALL the happy rest of my life... the only exception to this awesome neighborhood are the cops stationed here..... I really feel sorry for the good cops that shuffled over to this station..and of course DOESN'T apply to all Rich cops.. but DAYMN after the Nth time.. makes you really wonder... 1.) My friend car is parked around the corner from my house... apparently the alarm went off (and wouldn't stop)...... The cops were called in...AND TOWED IT. For a NOISE COMPLAINT. I'm sorry, if my alarm went off because some thief was trying to break into my friends car, and we weren't in earshot of my alarm. BUT yea..go ahead and tow my car, impound, have me pay $400 something to get it back... yea.. makes sense.... NOTE: The nice lady cop @ 850 bryant, that was helping us figure what happen/why it was towed... said: "Oh, it was towed by Richmond...yea...they don't what they are doing.." and she continues to shake her head as she pulls up paperwork...... 2.) Pulling me over 1/2 block from my house for rolling a stop sign... that cool.. ill fight it whatever.. NOT a big deal... Telling me that my insurance in outdated, and when I try to tell you that I JUST bought new insurance today, and the print out is in my house (literally 3 yards away).. You tell me to SHUTUP, and "I DONT HAVE TIME TO LISTEN OR TO ARGUE WITh YOU" yea whatever.. i can take a lil verbal abuse... BUT HARASSING my NEIGHBOR for walking up to my car window, and asking if everything was OK? bc of that you, continue to HARASS HIM, saying that his OPEN driver side door was OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC?? That you will give him a ticket??? Asking, MY NEIGHBOR, if he's mad that his "girlfriend got a ticket??" SO what? racial profiling now?? Yes, I'm Asian, so is my neighbor.. SO IS 75% OF RICHMOND, doesn't mean that's my cousin, mom, or boyfriend. NOTE: After said harassment.. they SCREECHED away, did a DOUNUT in an intersection..leaving tire marks... I LIVE IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD... 1/2 block away from a playground! And after my neighbor just said SORRY, to get it over with and not perpetuate the situation, they said to him" SORRRY, OFFICERS". Really?! if that necessary?? 3.) Pulling 5 cars surrounding my house, lights, sirens. EVERYTHIN, YELLING at my window, flashing light into my bedroom window @ 3:30AM on a WEDNESDAY NIGHT. To tell me that a previous resident at my address is being seeked by the police... HE LIVED HERE 4 YEARS AGO! 4.) Giving me tickets for PARKING in my own driveway..not ONCE. but TWICE by 2 different cops DURING THE SAME HOUR. GET A LIFE! I really could go on.... but I'm quite livid from writing this already. And I'm sure you get the picture........ They REALLY need to send these lazy cops to assist the other REAL cops that are actually doing their job. read more

Unbelievable... I was involved in a collision with the police car. It was clearly their fault and they have admitted it. After number of statements and waiting for the traffic cop to finalize the report (2 hours of waiting) they have assured me that everything will be taken care of. Two weeks later they informed me that it was my fault. There was 4 police persons on the scene. Everyone of them gave statements. They took statement from my son who was in the car. I was always true believer of importance of the police work. And believed in their general honesty... It was just erased by that situation. How from now on one can trust any of them? read more

If you get a parking citation that needs to be fixed, this is one of the easiest SFPD stations to get to. There is even 10 minute parking right out front to show the officer your now front licensed car to lower that citation from over $100 to $10. read more

As a native resident of the Richmond district it saddens me to write this review. The station has gone so far down hill and it just continues to get worse. The inefficiencies of the city filter to all departments. My reason for this post is that I have finally been tipped over the edge when I read the police report that was made for a ticket I received when donating to goodwill. The officer lied in the report ( or at least recalled a different interaction that was with someone else). As you can expect, I have no recourse...a cops word is considered gospel. I write this in the hopes that if anyone else finds them-self in a similar situation...please reach out to me, I am happy to share my experience . I was in a traffic incident a few months ago while on my motorcycle. A girl tried to intimidate me with her car for over half a block coming within inches of my back tire repeatedly while flipping me off, calling me names and leaning on her horn. The intimidation didn't work and after the stop sign she gunned it and slammed into me on purpose. Cops on the scene didn't want to hear anything about what happened. They didn't want to see the video of the girl's continued attempts at intimidation after I went down. They exchanged information only. I had to point out more than once that the info the driver gave was incomplete. I thought long and hard about the situation. I had a minor concussion, my left hip isn't the same and I lived without my bike for months while it was in the shop. Everyone in my life said, "Sue her!" Lawyers gave me their cards and offered to take the case pro bono. I didn't want to sue anyone but I did want the girl who used her car as a weapon to understand that what she did is illegal. I don't want her to do it to someone else. So, I called the police. The first officer I talked to was amazing. He genuinely listened and let me know all possible outcomes-from a detective rejecting the case to going to court to jail time for the girl who hit me and everything in between. He asked if I was willing to accept any of those outcomes. I was. What I wasn't expecting or willing to accept was how the other officer in the precinct who took my statement treated me. He rolled his eyes and said "whatever" as I told my story. He sighed and huffed and kept referring to the incident as "my opinion". He glanced over the three-page report that I wrote and smirked. I left confident that a detective would make the call, and not Officer Cox. I called to follow up a few days later and found out that Office Cox determined that it should not go to a detective for consideration. I ignored his sarcasm and attitude and pushed the point. He said he'd contact the other party and call me back in 4-5 days. No call. I called the precinct three weeks later. "Oh yeah, I was on vacation". No apology, no acknowledgement of the "4-5 days" comment. The girl claimed that I punched her car and yelled "Aha, I got you". Therefore, Officer Cox feels as if I am just looking for a payday there's nothing more to be done by the police. My motorcycle is worth more than the car that hit me. This girl doesn't even pay her own insurance. She's on her parents' policy. If I wanted a "payday", I would have had a lawyer long ago. I wanted to trust the system. I wanted a real detective to walk me through why things would or would not proceed. I didn't want to be profiled by a burnt out cop who determined that my property, my safety, even my life doesn't matter. If you need help, if you need to believe in justice and good policework, this is not the place to come. read more

Disclaimer: Although this anecdote is specifically drawn from an incident had with the SOMA station, it just as much applies to the station at Inner Richmond. They are no better! "I'm going to kick your ass and get away with it!" (Hence the picture I posted to my profile.) Need I say more...? Thank you to the Alex Fagan Jr.'s of the Department who keep people's asses in-line with the law by 'any means necessary' (or unnecessary). Theirs is "sometimes" a duplicitous philosophy to law enforcement: "fight crime with crime." Like when many years ago, as I rang in the New Year's in my adolescence with my under-aged drinking buddies. While walking the SOMA district, we were met by a posse of cops that sprang into action from the darkness of a nearby alley. Without warning--or probable cause--we were surrounded and frisked... and although we had partaken in some underage drinking moments before, it was clear from the stank on their breath that they had drunk their fair-share too! After confiscating my very illegal butterfly knife, which they thought was "cool," they (literally) stumbled off to frisk the next group of nearby celebrators. I could go on, and on, and on... Unfortunately this is the second time in two months my car has been broken into, in the Masonic and Anza area. Don't worry SFPD I don't plan to call you, it will just waste my minutes- you don't do anything anyways. I understand the SFPD has more important issues to deal with than a car getting broken into, however, I called just to see how I could file a police report. I wanted to at least try to turn this into a positive situation and report the crime. The cop that I talked too on the phone rushed me off and was rude. I find that frustrating to be rude someone that is trying to do the right thing, that type of attitude is just going to deter people from calling. The first time was my fault I left stuff out on my back seat and it was visible, it deserved to be broken into I should have been more careful. I tried to file the claim online and the form is confusing and the instructions are poor, the SFPD needs to invest in someone to update that website. If people can't call in to get help at least make your website more user friendly. Now this is the second time my car has gotten broken into near the Masonic and Anza area. If you live over here, hide yo car, hide yo things, and don't go out at night. Again I am going to try to file a police report but I feel like it is the right thing to do. SF I think it would be best if we invest less in the street cleaning and more in some neighbor watch. We wouldn't have to clean the streets so much if less cars were getting broken into-i.e. less broken glass on the ground. It would be nice to see some action taken by the Richmond police and do some loops over this way during the night or early evening. Perhaps that would help deter these thieves from breaking in. I see a different car every week broken into on Anza St. I would love to see the police do something about it, at least patrol a little bit more over here. . read more

I needed to get a fix-it parking ticket signed off, and after trying a few places, I ended up here. I was helped very quickly, and the officer who helped out with the citation was incredibly kind and friendly. We chatted briefly about the car, and our dogs. I moved to this neighborhood six years ago, and I think the police are far more effective in the Inner Richmond than they are in the Haight. I LOVE that they conduct regular traffic stings at dangerous intersections and ticket cars that blow through stop signs or don't stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk. Geary is downright dangerous for pedestrians, and I appreciate that this precinct is trying to do something about it. Also, every time that we've called the non-emergency dispatch because someone was acting suspiciously or strangely on our block, they show up pretty quickly and deal with it. When I lived in the Haight, the police officers took forever to respond and often did nothing, didn't even get out of the car. read more

(DEC 2015) My mother in law passed way and all I wanted to ask was if I can bring her old prescription medications for proper disposal. So, I called them and ask them how to do this. (1-415-666-8000) First person on the phone was very rude and he keep asking me what kind of medicine it is. I told him that "I just told you that this medicine was for my mothers in law and bunch of medications. So, I don't know what kind of medicine it is". At the end, all he wanted to know was if that's are pill or liquid. Because they don't accept any liquid or bottles...... Why can't you just say "We only accept pills and make sure to put in the plastic bag - please". Why can't they talk normal or have some level of professionalism? I really hate to pay tax for this kind of dumb public service personal which they cannot do the job and gives lots of bad attitudes. No wonder everyone hates police officers. This is message for Chief of police in San Francisco. Please monitor phone conversation with public, listen how they are providing public service. Just monitor 5 calls and I think most of person should be not appropriate for their jobs. This is unacceptable level of public service and I just cannot believe they are the police officers. (UPDATE) I brought prescription medicine to Richmond Police dept. Female police office took it nicely. read more

Last night there was a fire across the street from me. Scary!!! The whole block was blocked off. And there were two cops I encountered. One was level headed and spoke to me in a reasonable tone, the other had a stick up her ass. She was a decent looking lady cop, but her attitude was not something I had ever experienced before by a SFPD. 8 years living in this beautiful city and NO run ins with bad cops, until this beeyotch. Yes, I might have aggravated her further by giving her attitude, but she deserved it. So I finally get back into my apartment and just watch her from my window and observe how she acts with other drivers for about, say, 30 minutes. I was fuming mad so I was watching her like a hawk. She wasn't a C*nt just to me, but to EVERYBODY she came across. She started to direct traffic on Balboa St. and anyone who wasn't prompt at stepping on the gas pedal got her nasty ass attitude by being sarcastic and condescending with her body language. Ugh, I just want to scream at her to get that stick out of her ass. She was on a little power trip. Giving attitude to EVERYONE!!! Very condescending and just a plain beeyotch. I don't usually call anyone the four letter C word, but this 'cop' deserves it. And I gave the second star ONLY because about an hour later, I spoke to a nice cop. Seriously though, aren't they public servants? Shouldn't they at least be somewhat kind to the citizens that they oh so care about and protect. read more
