We should have left when the server who took our drink order couldn't remember we both ordered water. It went down hill from there. Twice we heard them try to deliver the wrong drinks to the table behind us. And even after telling them again we just ordered water they tried to serve us someone else's tea. When our food was delivered, my plate had the wrong sandwich on it. They took the sandwich away and left me the onion rings. 15 minutes later, after my onion rings were cold , they delivered my new sandwich and it still was not correct. Went on Sunday morning, basically because we couldn't find much else open at the time we were looking for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised and glad we went! Cute little place that was close to the hotel we stayed at. Everything looked new and clean. I had the beef fajita omelet which was tasty and very large. One child had the half omelet with two eggs, the other had a half biscuit and gravy and both ate them so thats a good sign with kids! Sgt. P's is very close to my work and makes for an excellent lunch. The atmosphere is that of a diner but not over the top with decorations. The environment has always been clean when I've gone. Food is almost always cooked just right and my order has never been wrong. I usually stick with their Breakfast Shoe or Buffalo Chicken Pony Shoe. The horseshoe portions are enormous so I usually stick with a Pony Shoe and still come out feeling like I ate too much. The cheese sauce is great both the spicy and regular. Sgt. P's can get pretty crowded over lunch or in the early morning during breakfast. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for normal diner food with a clean atmosphere. read more

Breakfast is their strong suit here--perfect bacon, fluffy, well-cooked eggs and delicious pancakes! Our waitress was also great--friendly and efficient without hovering. We will be back soon for more breakfast at lunch time, which has always been one of our favorites. I was in Springfield with some friends one weekend and was heading home from Springfield and saw Sgt Peppers Cafe served breakfast. I figured it would be a good choice instead of McDonald or the typical fast food. We all ordered the typical breakfast (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes, etc) and split an extra large cinnamon roll, which was awesome! I kinda wanted to try the breakfast horseshoe and was kinda disappointed that I didnt however I just recenlty learned that 2 more Sgt Pepper Cafes have opened in Edwardsville, IL and Alton, IL and plan on going back since thats much closer to home. read more

Fast efficient service. Clean. Had my first horseshoe here passing through on my regular trip between KC and Chicago. Good but not great. had the ham with spicy white cheese sauce. This place as close to the worst service I've ever experienced. We were skipped over for seating and when we said something they just laughed and said oh well. I understand that it was Sunday morning but a 40 minute wait for seating when I could see multiple open tables is unacceptable. It also took forever to get our food and not once did we have our drinks refilled. After all of that to get the mediocre food and my fries were cold but boy are they proud of their food with those prices geez. Service was poor. It was more than just slow. The server kept walking by our table without bringing us the water that we ordered. We were charged too much for a side chili and the horseshoe we ordered didn't include all of the ingredients. The bowl of chili was small but excellent. We were warmly greeted at The door, sat in a booth, and our server came right over with a smile and a cheerful demeanor. We ordered our drinks while looking at the menu. I have been going to Sgt. Peppers every weekend with my friends for a year due to the Beatles theme, but in that time I have seen the manager fly off the handle several times at different people. Last week we found our typical waitress stopped working there. When they told us we asked if she was let go (as most people might). When I was leaving my friends went to the car and I went down the hall to the restroom, it was then the owner came out talking tuff about how its none of our buisness and we probably tipped our new waitress bad and we should shut up. He didn't realize I was around the corner, but it shows the typically cowardly behavior he will give you. I personally like the people and the other stores may be good, but don't trust the Springfield store because they don't care about customers. read more

So I used doordash for the first time and ordered Sgt Pepper's Cafe. When the driver got here she apologized and said that when she got to Sgt Pepper's the order wasn't even done and she had to wait. No big deal, I get it, restaurants get busy. Anyway she leaves and I open my ponyshoe and it doesn't have any cheese on it. There's no cheese in a side container in the bar either. I go up to Sgt Pepper's totally defeating the convenience of using doordash to get my order made the right way and the owner wants to just put cheese sauce on my old cold food. I tell him I'd like it to be remade and he gets an attitude with me but he remakes it anyway. They said that the order said no cheese so I show them my order receipt and they admit that they entered the order incorrectly. While I was waiting for my food I was talking to one of the waitresses and she was telling people as they were coming in that there would be about an hour wait, not because the dining room was full, but because the kitchen was backed up. She then told me that there was a couple in the dining room that has been waiting for their food for 2 hours. She explained that the cook(owner) only worries about getting the drive thru food out because he hands them their food and has to deal with them but that he isn't concerned with getting food out to people in the dining room because he doesn't have to deal with them which explains why my order wasn't ready when the doordash lady arrived to pick it up. When they get my food made and hand it to me I ask if they can give me a free shoe in the future due to their mistake and they say I should take it up with doordash. I reminded them that they just admitted fault and that it doesn't have anything to do with doordash and they respond, "we don't really comp food here". So the convenience of doordash went to shit because Sgt Pepper's isn't worth a damn. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or money with these people. read more

I have recently discovered St. Peppers Cafe. It is a great alternative to the drive through at McDonalds. I get 2 eggs-2 pancakes-2 sausage for $4. Kids split it. Tonight I asked for chocolate chips in the pancakes. After I paid for it via debit card, I didn't get a receipt, I asked how much it was. $3.18 was added to 2 orders, (not including tax) just for the chocolate chips. Are you serious? That is a bit ridiculous for @ 30 chocolate chips, total Common' , I like this joint but seriously feel like I have been robbed. Just say no to chocolate chips. My daughter had the breakfast horseshoe, my husband had the traditional horseshoe and I had the veggie skillet minus the mushrooms. I asked for a side of the white spicy cheese to drizzle over the top. Oh my! So tasty. Everyone was pleased. The portions were all pretty big. Just had some of my leftovers 30 minutes ago and then went for a walk. Nice place for breakfast and lunch. Ambiance is clean with wood flooring, brick accents and Beatles memorabilia. Overall, it was a pleasant meal, not great but not terrible. The service was friendly and fast. I ordered the chili, which tasted good, even though it was only lukewarm. My husband's was the same. We also ordered the buffalo chicken horseshoe with yellow cheese (never heard of it before today). The cheese sauce and fries were edible, but the buffalo chicken did not have a good flavor. I can't really describe it but from someone who regularly eats buffalo chicken it tasted oddly tangy and not in a good way. After a few bites we gave up. Other dishes tried were the children's pancakes, which were delicious, and the turkey club which looked good (I did it have any). My husband ordered a double hamburger with onion rings. Not much flavor but it terrible, either. The portions were large and everything on the menu seemed to have the same price: $9.99. For 5 people we spent over $65 for lunch so I'd say this is more of a $$ place. Oh, and hey, it's Sgt. Peppers....but they were playing Phil Collins and other 80's bands the whole time. As a fan of both the Beatles and diner food, I try to get to Sgt. Pepper's as often as I can. Their horseshoe is one of the very best in town and can be ordered with spicy white or mellow yellow cheese (or both). Their nachos are divine. Their pork tenderloin sandwich is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- just the way I like it. They make a killer waffle with strawberries and the perfect BLT with a hefty pile of bacon. The waitstaff has been quirky at times, but usually efficient, friendly young folks. I do miss seeing the owner in the kitchen (he was there for decades, but absent recently?), but I still enjoy visiting quite frequently. read more
