I had a great Friday noon lunch at Obed and Issac's. That flatbread with honey, goat (cheese), and bacon was AMAZING and the bartender was right that it's the best thing on the menu. The staff was on top of everything, just the right amount of attention, and the bar area has amazing space (the plane up in the recesses of the ceiling is a sight to behold) and feels so welcoming. It was a little hot to me for the patio but others did not agree (they were no doubt Northerners who need the sun but this Southerner has had enough this year) and it was nearly full. This brewery shares an outdoor beer garden with the cider shop next door. Rustic picnic tables outside, tables and chairs under the canopy. There's a limited menu at the brewery, order drinks and food at counter and pager sounds to let you know when your order is ready. There's several outdoor games, jumbo Connect Four, beanbags, etc. to keep patrons amused and occupied. My chicken Caesar wrap was fresh and tasty, quesadillas reported as good. After stopping by the Abraham Lincoln House and library, we came across this microbrewery and had to go in! They also have a cidery, but it wasn't open during this season. Thankfully we still were able to get one cider, and they had a selection of other beers. The cider was tart and refreshing, and I really like the berry mocktail, which had ginger beer, and a mix of berries in it. As for food, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich came with a lot of heat which was great. I got the dry rub version, which is spicer than the saucy version. The horseshoe sandwich is a local favorite, which is an open faced sandwich with sliced bread topped with meat (we got the angus beef), fries, and cheese sauce. It was quite heavy and creamy because of all the sauce. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our server was very friendly, although service was on the slower side. read more

We were at the Lincoln Presidential Museum and were getting hungry, so we walked down to Obed and Isaac's. We were seated right away, and the place is a bit quirky but cool. We ordered a local beer and a glass of wine. After reading the menu, we ordered 2 cups of soup. Mr. Bee had the chili and said it was seasoned well and he enjoyed it. I had the beer cheese soup which was also very good. We ordered the Vegetarian Horseshoe Sandwich to share, seems like a local favorite, but we hadn't heard of it. So after we placed our lunch order I googled a Horseshoe Sandwich and learned it is a regional favorite. The sandwich is open-faced. It starts with a thick piece of toasted bread topped with a hamburger patty, or ham or in our case a veggie burger, topped with a rich cheese sauce and French fries. The sandwich evidently originated at the Old Leland Hotel in town in 1928. After learning that I am really glad we decided to give it a try. Boy we were shocked when our sandwich finally came out, the service was a bit slow. The sandwich was huge, it was actually two pieces of bread, two veggie patties, lots of cheese sauce and fries. Just beware if your splitting it, you actually get a full sandwich each. It was really good. The cheese sauce was great with the fries and the patty. While the food was really good, and our server was nice. The service was a bit slow, we had to ask twice for our check. If you are in town at the Lincoln museum or exploring downtown, this is a good spot. read more

This place is off of my list. I used to eat here all the time about 14 years ago. They have continued to raise the prices over and over again and now it is out of my price range. The entrées do not have enough toppings on them and they are sky high in price.. A hamburger should not cost $20. They also add a 3.5% surcharge, so a $20 hamburger very quickly becomes a $30 hamburger when you add tax, tip and surcharge. I am never going back there. read more

The pretzels & cheese sauce were really a nice way to get our meal started. I order the pony shoe, a smaller portion of an open-faced sandwich containing your choice of meat & cheese sauce, over toast. They top it off with very crisp French fries. I liked it & am glad to have tried a Springfield entree. My hubby had salad & chili. He said that both were OK, but the chili was better after he added leftover cheese sauce from our pretzels. Our server was nice, but seemed scattered. It took a while for her to return with our check. We hadn't expected to be there for 1.5 hours. Obed & Isaac's is a gem. The food was amazing and surprisingly affordable. I had the glazed salmon with rice and it was cooked perfectly--flavorful and memorable. One of my companions ordered the Willyshoe, and they couldn't stop talking about it. Such a creative and fun take on the classic horseshoe. The outdoor seating under the string lights created a great atmosphere, and the beer garden is a real highlight. We enjoyed the bocce ball and the relaxed vibe that made it easy to linger. The staff was accommodating to our group and let us sit and enjoy our time without any rush. The food was so good I completely forgot to take photos, which says a lot. The waiter was gracious and brought back the second offering and it still wasn't cooked! Anyone could do a better job in their hotel breakfast bar. Food was just okay. I haven't been for some time and it's really changed. The spinach/artichoke dip that we have always loved seems like mostly cream cheese now. Pita chips excellent. Pulled pork okay, turkey avocado wrap, meh. Handed us dirty ripped menus, big hunks out of sides of menus. They are just printed heavy paper, why wouldn't you replace? Most beers were guest beers. DO NOT COME HERE! Absolute HORRIBLE service. We waited over AN HOUR for our food and was STILL MISSING part of our order. There is a big crowd but most of us are sharing. We had to ask for water refills. We watched 4 other tables get their food, finish their food. Paid and left. I asked for a wine list inside and got attitude and told there wasn't one. So I had to ask what the wine list was and got met with sarcasm. How would I know? When the food came out, no apology. Nothing. Egg rolls were overcooked. Hardly "Philly" style. Also asked for only 1 check to be considerate. Not sure what we did to deserve the service we got. Do not recommend if you're not from here. But maybe that's the point? read more

The server was fine, the beer was great, but we waited 45 minutes for our food. My fish & chips were okay but would have been better if they were hot and not just warm. My wife ordered a Reuben sandwich that was served at room temperature with corned beef and cheese only - no sauerkraut and no dressing. The waiter offered to take it back and have another one made, but having already waited so long for the first one we did not want to wait that long again. The corned beef was very good but that didn't make up for the fact that we ordered a sandwich that has 4 key components and it was served with 2 of them missing. My husband and I stopped at this cute little brewery in downtown Springfield, IL on a trip during the fall. We hit the lunch crowd and I think people watching was a much fun as the lunch. The staff was very friendly and our server was nice and efficient. We ordered two sour beers that were good, and a Ruben sandwich. The cheese sauce might have been homemade -- it was grainy enough to make me believe someone whisked it themselves -- but there was barely any. Also, who hides the cheese under the fries? That's the star of the show! I had to beg for more, and even then it arrived lukewarm, much like my excitement for the meal. My wife ordered the Pork Schnitzel with "spaetzle." Except it wasn't schnitzel; it was a pork cutlet that had clearly seen the inside of a freezer longer than most people's leftovers. And the "spaetzle"? Nope. Straight-up spaghetti noodles. The mushroom sauce tasted like it came straight from a can labeled Cream of Disappointment. Two of the kids got cheese pizza -- or as I like to call it, "Frozen Circle of Regret." My son's "chips" were somehow both soggy and chewy, a texture I didn't even know existed. Frying them until they're crunchy shouldn't be rocket science, but here we are. Everything was bland, flavorless, and missing any sign of seasoning. The best dish of the entire meal? My daughter's burger on her Pony Shoe -- mostly because it resembled real food. And just to add a little flair, nearly every plate was dusted with dried parsley. Because, of course, nothing says fine dining like sprinkling dried parsley on frozen food. This place has serious potential -- it's got the space, the charm, and the perfect downtown vibe. But if your secret ingredient is "frozen," no amount of parsley is going to save you. read more

This was our first visit to Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery, and we know it's a place that gets a lot of great reviews. We stopped in during a off peak time, and the food service was slower than expected. We ordered the turkey wrap, which was on the smaller side and a bit dry; next time we'd probably try a different menu item. The atmosphere is nice, and it's easy to see why this is such a popular spot in Springfield. We're glad we gave it a try and would be open to visiting again to experience it at its best. read more

I love going to Obeds for the vibes and the beer- their strawberry blonde is so good! I usually have nothing bad to say. Service is good, especially when it was hot and they tried to accommodate us outside in a way to avoid the sun. My complaint this time was the food. My Thai peanut chicken wrap was very small, so disappointing for $14 and my side of the cucumber salad was very bland and not worth it. read more

Really great place for out of town guests. The house's historic vibe fits in well in historic Springfield. All the beer is brewed onsite and the one's I've tried live up to their menu descriptions. On my most recent visit with some out of town friends - we all enjoyed our beer and entrees. The peanut butter burger sounded great but had very little peanut butter flavor and lacked seasoning. The chicken and waffles were inedible...the chicken was cooked but had a slimy texture under the breading....I had my husband try it to make sure it wasn't just me...he immediately had to spit it out.... The fries were bland and not fully cooked. Overall, a disappointing meal.... They offered a discount for the chicken but the meal in total was still over $80 for lunch we don't mind paying that if it was worth it ... but this was definitely not! The caprese flatbread was okay there was nothing spectacular about it. The pub burger was good, the meat quality is definitely high and the fries were also good even though we didn't order them originally. We originally ordered the Mac & cheese but it wasn't served hot and there was nothing special about it either, we preferred the fries! The building is beautiful and the eclectic decor was cozy. Service was okay, they remedied the wrong order quick! Overall, it was an okay experience the only food that we were especially WOW'd by was the dip!
