They take in animals regardless of any chronic and debilitating conditions they might have and invest a lot of time and money into getting them healthy and ready for a forever home. I adopted my cat from CARE and it touched me to see the genuine compassion and care that they have for the animals that they rescue. I highly recommend adopting from them because they do such great work for the rescued animals in the community and you're bound to adopt a lifelong friend from them. To address some of the negative comments: they are all VOLUNTEERS with full-time jobs, which means that they sacrifice a lot of time to care for the animals and place them into loving homes. They have staff coming in 2-3 times a day to ensure that the cats are fed, medicated (if necessary) and that their litter boxes and cages are clean. For the people who complain about the shelter being dirty, it is sterilized and cleaned multiple times a day. I can assure you that no free-roaming shelter will ever look as clean as a hospital operating room, so get your head out of the clouds. For the people who are unhappy about a pet that wasn't a good fit for your family, you probably weren't forthcoming enough about your life and what you're looking for during the application process. The volunteers know these animals inside and out, and they know exactly what kind of home and living situation they animals need. If you aren't willing to change your life to meet the needs of a pet you're adopting, then don't adopt it. Simple. There's no reason why a volunteer would try and force an animal on someone, or withhold critical health and behavioral information, because it's not in the best interest of the pet. Everything they do is in the best interest of these animals. The volunteers invest a lot of time reviewing and following up on applications to ensure that the cats are matched with appropriate homes. If your application is rejected or you didn't hear back from the team at CARE, it's probably because the cat you wanted wasn't a good fit for you and your family; your landlord doesn't allow pets; your references never got back to us, or they straight up told us not to adopt out to you! It's pretty straightforward in my opinion. Anyways to the people who can look past the negative (and poorly written) reviews bad-mouthing CARE, I highly recommend adopting a pet from them. They work so hard to give these animals hope at a new life and they will work with you to find the perfect little fuzzy friend for your family. If it takes some time for you to hear back from them, just check-in! They are stretched very thin and do their best to keep all applicants up-to-date on things.

I was introduced to the Mansfield Animal Shelter back in 2012 when I discovered that they produce a…read moreprogram on the local community cable channel, where they show all the animals available for adoption. A fantastic idea that I wish more shelters took advantage of. After a few weeks of insufferably cute faces and accompanying sad stories, I ventured over. Be sure to check the hours on their website, because they're only open a couple of hours some days, and longer hours others, due to it being staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It turns out that they are affiliated with the town animal control department and many of their rescues have been picked up as strays, or left behind after a move. They also accept dropped off pets, though preferably not the 'basket left on the doorstep' kind, which sadly was part of some of the cats' histories. I found a clean, organized place with cats at one end of the building and dogs at the other. Lots of helpful staff cleaning cages, socializing animals and carrying out the administrative side of the shelter. I was able to walk through the cat room, interacting with the cats in cages (roomy, scratching posts and individual litter-boxes), and with some that are allowed to roam freely while volunteers are there. They also have a couple of communal cat rooms with several cats living happily together. The volunteers answered questions, and I was able to use a visiting room to see a couple of cats 1 on 1. On my second visit I met Jack-O. He was a fixed, 6 year old male tuxedo cat. He was terrified of having gone from owner, to shelter, to quarantine, to the vet and finally to a room full of cats in cages. I could see in his eyes that he had just disconnected and gone to a happy place in his head. He didn't respond to verbal or food-based cues, just stayed curled up with that 'thousand yard stare'. I knew he was the one for me. The adoption process was pretty simple; Application, references checked (previous pets and the vets that cared for them) and a reasonable fee for the process (includes fixing, if necessary). I found everyone that I dealt with pleasant, professional and above all devoted to placing all those animals in good homes. Four years later Merlin (formerly Jack-O) is a happy, healthy, furry, non-rent paying roommate with a passion for chirping at birds and knocking over priceless knick-knacks. He contributes only to my sanity, refusing to deal with ground level threats like ants and spiders. I'm still a sucker for the cable show highlighting their adoptables, and often watch with Merlin directly in front of the television occasionally reaching out to see who these intruders in our living room are.

I guess it depends on what kind of car you pull up in so this woman can tell whether or not you have the money to take care of these animals. So we went to the Salem animal shelter they had bunk houses for animals there dogs cats these cats were the most beautiful things we have ever seen all of them there's about 15 of them up for same day adoption! They don't go into your background they don't go looking for vet records they just want to know that the cats are going to a good home with a loving family! And the $250. They sent us home with a litter box cat carrier treats litter food a bed toys everything you could think of treats to get these babies started for the next few days in a loving home. And that's exactly what they got! So did anybody reading this I would not go there! Salem animal rescue in Salem New Hampshire same day adoption, and they have a plethora of beautiful kittens cats three-legged cat that was most beautiful thing I've ever seen that ran around me like there was no tomorrow! If I could give this place zero Stars I would the only people that were good and decent with a volunteers who were apparently not caught up on which cats were up for adoption in which one's weren't! This woman was taking applications and checking out people vet bills vet checkups like she was giving away children. If I had four hands I put four thumbs down! Now that my dog is older, has had several teeth removed, and has become much pickier with food, I've started shopping here again for her meals and treats. They have a great selection of wet, soft, and dry foods, making it easy to find something that fits her needs. After trying several different foods elsewhere, we finally found one she loves and doesn't seem to get tired of or sick from. I'm really happy with the variety they offer and appreciate having so many options for senior dogs with different dietary needs. It's been nice coming back, and I'll definitely continue shopping here for my dog's food and treats.

As sad of a place as an animal shelter can be, she brightened it up and made our visit enjoyable and informative. I saw a police officer on E. Greenwich Ave. and stop to ask if he had seen a white dog in the area. The police officer was extremely kind and caring. He informed me that she had already been picked up and was at West Warwick animal shelter. I immediately drove over there and when I walked in, I met a young man named Paul. Paul was absolutely AMAZING! I can't thank him enough for the concern and kindness he showed me. The shelter was clean and the few fur babies that were under their care looked comfortable and well taken care of. I gladly give this 5 STARS!!!!!!!!! Thank you for taking such good care of my baby.
