Having wrapped construction a month and a half prior to having shades installed, I was beginning to feel we were putting on a show for the neighbors that was getting old (those poor poor people). putting shades in, especially when you have non standard window sizes (we a have a 110" long front facing casement window) is a pain. They gave me the impression that if I have a problem recharging the battery they will come over and help me so they stand by their product. No sleazy sales tactics. It was one of the main reasons we choose Shades West instead of other companies. Joe also adjusted the blind handles when we realized they weren't long enough. We ordered cellular- both top down and traditional, and blackout cellular. Some of our window openings have more then .25" difference (crooked), not a straight wall in the house, and Joe measured quickly and more importantly - accurately. Excellent service! The cord in our bedroom shades snapped and I was having a terrible time finding someone to come out and take a look but then I found Shades West. Joe was extremely responsive (even over the weekend) and scheduled a visit within a few days. I figured that, even after giving him the measurements, they would either need to do measuring of their own and come back with a new cord, or would have to take the whole thing off the wall and take it to the shop, leaving us with cardboard taped to the window for days, if not weeks. I was wrong on both counts. Kevin showed up with a new cord and had it installed in less time than it takes for me to replace a lightbulb. (The shoe removal before entering the apartment was a nice touch). The new cord works perfectly! They accepted Venmo and the whole process couldn't have been easier. Highly Recommended! read more

Joe and his team did a big project for our Williamsburg penthouse and glad that we chose him. In our case we decided on electric somfy shades, some blackout and others with some light coming through. In addition, Joe chose and installed a large curtain set which was designed behind a king bed. Basically a wall of curtains which served a nice design purpose in directing the eye of the viewer outward, towards the park. Joe and his team came back on several occasions to make sure all the little stuff was done exactly right, and he's just an overall friendly dude (which sets the tone for his team). You know a company has a service culture when they don't even ask you about taking off shoes, they just do it instinctively or put booties on their shoes. I thought it shows a lot of respect for the space they are about to enter. And they treated all the aspects of the project with similar thoughtfulness and respect. I cannot agree with many of the reviews posted for ShadesWest. Communication with Joe and his team hasn't always been the most responsive or thorough when it comes to follow up and scheduling. It took them a couple weeks to schedule instal of the blinds after I promptly paid my deposit and fees. While they did subsequently perform the installation, first contact was in early June, and the install didnt take place until Aug 11. Since then my tenant has had recurring issues with the installation of the blinds, and after several visits and supposedly repairing the situation each time, the problems continue to reappear. And at no point has Joe offered to replace or reinstall new blinds. This is the third time he or his team members have come to repair the blinds. If the problem re-appears, Im more likely to turn to another company than continue to rely on this level of service. I cant wholeheartedly recommend this company in spite of the other reviews here, which prompted me to reach out to them in the first place. (as a follow-up, the shades did stop functioning again, ive turned to another company for help.) read more
