Since moving here, rodents were heard in the walls. After complaining several times the rats were still there. After the first complaint the building manager mentioned the problem was resolved, which was obviously not the case. Shadowbrook has now "inadvertently" disconnected my cable internet connection twice. The first time, I thought it was a Comcast issue, but when the Comcast guy came out and inspected the wiring for my unit, he informed me that the complex was rewiring the cable incorrectly. I told the leasing office about it, and thought that was the end of it. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Today, they have once again disconnected my cable, and the cable of at least one of my neighbors. Naturally, the leasing office is closed. I mean, it's not like they would be open when they schedule work that would break things; that would be just too convenient. So instead, I called the after-hours number. The man who answered told me that they were doing work on the cable this weekend. I told him that they broke my Internet connection, then he told me that they didn't have permission to change the cable wiring. He said that Comcast would have to come out to fix it. If you're going to give me a line of BS, at the very least you can be consistent with it. Is Shadowbrook messing with the cable, or isn't it? Well now I'm without an Internet connection, with little clue as to who is supposed to fix it, all the while, the "secure" cabling closet is unlocked an opened to the world. read more

We lived here for almost two years now and we really love it here. What makes it awesome are the people that work here. Ariel, Deborah, and Marcos in the leasing office are phenomenal and the maintenance crew (shout out to Juan who is really great) are always ready to help (and also phenomenal) and do a great job of it. If you put in a work order, it gets done within the week. They have these events at the clubhouse that they host that gathers the community to get together to hangout and always turnout great. Last night, they hosted a Super Bowl party and provided the food and everything. The amenities are nice and seriously the people who work here are really good at what they do and are just really, really nice people. It is close to Steven's Creek trail to run or bike, there are plenty of parks near by, it is in between Downtown Mountain View and Sunnvayle where the Farmers' Market happens on Saturday (Sunnyvale) and Sunday (Mountain View), and close to public transportation (VTA and Caltrain). Oh and freeways are close by as well! People looking for a place in Sunnyvale should really consider living here and I highly recommend it! read more

I lived in Shadowbrook Apartment for an entire year and then signed another half-year lease afterward while looking for buying a house. I thought it would take me a few months before moving to my new house, it turned out I bought my house in only 1 month, so I had to early terminate my second lease. Based on my negotiation with the leasing office, I was told if I could find someone who would like to take over my lease and sign a new one, I wouldn't be charged the early termination fee except for the rent difference if the monthly rent is lower than mine due to market price change. However, the gap between I moved out and new tenant move-in is still charged on me. And it took shadowbrook two weeks to inspect and clean up the apartment. I am then asked to pay the prorated rent for the gap which was never told by leasing office. I tried to negotiate but they sent my case to a collection company. Extremely poor attitude when you are no longer a tenant for them!!! PS: the early termination penalty is two-month rent if you can not find someone to take over your lease. I used to live in shadowbrook from 11/5/2019 - 3/5/2021 with my husband. We bought a unit and the close date was 2/8/2021. So we already planed to move out until our lease ends. Three people knocked on our door someday morning in January. They asked us if we wanted to continue our lease. We said no, we would move out before our lease ended. Due to the convid-19, everyone wore a mask. We believed they were from shadowbrook office due to they were asking about our lease. We had experienced that shadowbrook staff knocked on our door directly and walkin in our apartment to check our roof before. We think it should be a notification which we will move out before our lease ends. I returned our keys until 3/2/2021,then I got a couple calls from shadowbrooks staff, I explained the whole thing, and she said will send us a notification about the statement which wont charge us , she would check what she can do. Then it changed us silently without any notification . Today we just noticed our bank, shadowbrook changed us accelerated rent charge rent (almost $3000)which is not reasonable. Staff knocked on our apartment to check on January, we did tell them we would move out . They considered the notification date is the day I returned the key. So the bill changed additional $3000 which is the penalty for the late notification. It is like a trap to charge more from me. The properties are so old, I can hear anything from my upstairs, I even caught them they brought a dog without notification to office due to I can hear the dog run!!! There were a lot of ants during summer in kitchen and batchroom , some are in bedroom.Even thought the community looks good outside. I wont recommend it. Stay away from Shadowbrook!!! read more

I Currently live at Shadowbrook and after having seen all the properties in the area, I must say I am satisfied with the property. The community is extremely pet friendly, and the management staff is very helpful. It is a older community but well maintained for its age. I absolutely love the landscaping, it feels pretty peaceful walking my dog. NO Smoking! Overall an average stay so far, I'd recommend spending $150-$200 more per month for a newer facility (double-pane windows, new carpets, modern building) When you visit you'll notice the nice office, gym, pool, and clubhouse - but the units are quite old. Not sure why there's such a difference between the facilities and the actual units. I got a classic unit so not renovated, my bathroom windows had dirt in the cracks and the quality is disappointing. As in all shared spaces, noise can be an issue. I got lucky with my neighbors but I'd recommend a top floor unit. Pros: - great customer service, always responsive (Sergio, Deborah, etc.) - good size units and balconies - great facilities (gym, pool) - nice calm environment Cons: - probably not the best neighborhood in Sunnyvale - very basic finishing and quality, especially the bathroom - older units: weak bedroom heater, no A/C, single-pane windows that let in wind/cold air - at least $100/month is added on to my rent for trash fee, water, etc. (this is not electric or gas): for tv/wifi, electric/gas, and these fees, you're easily at $250-$300 on top of your rent The area is pricey so if you're ok paying $2500+ for location, size, etc. then why not. Pay a bit more for a renovated unit and hopefully the double-panes will become standard. I visited lots of places and Shadowbrook was the best among them, but there are newer places too. read more

We really enjoyed our time at Shadowbrook so it was sad that it ended on a negative note. We actually broke our lease early which was a very difficult decision. The reason we left was due to the apartment being fumigated for termites, which apparently was a routine procedure. We were given sufficient notice of this and the preparation that was required. Unfortunately it was very close to the due date of our son. We were assured that the chemicals used were safe but we did still not feel comfortable bringing a newborn into a freshly fumigated home. The staff did try and accommodate our needs and were open to negotiation but in the end we weren't happy with the choices offered and we reluctantly had to find a new home. In hindsight, I really wish that they had told us that the building was being fumigated before we moved in as I was already pregnant at the time. This was obviously part of a long term plan and they knew it was coming up. If we had known this at the beginning we would have found another place to live. We ended up having to move with a 3 week old baby, after spending months setting up a calm, stable environment for him. Instead of this calm start where I had the chance to recover properly after the labour, I ended up being incredibly stressed, surrounded by boxes and a screaming newborn. read more

Shadowbrook aparments is an ok place to live in if you're in Sunnyvale. Another review states some problems with hot water - I did not notice any problems with this. Appliances work well too. We have a washer/dryer in the apartment. Pros and cons follow Pros: -Quick access to 237, 101,85 freeways -Nice landscaping - you have to walk a bit into the complex to actually see it though. -Close to grocery store and parks. -Allows pets upto 35lbs. for a montly charge + deposit. - Maintenance will follow up with work orders promptly. Cons: -SPIDERS! Lots of spiders... The name of the spider as we identified it is Zoropsis spinimana, A Mediterranean Spider In California. These spiders aren't harmful to humans, but its not something you want to see on your ceiling when you're in bed. I have an upgraded two bedroom apartment and it is beautiful. Everybody that comes over is always in awe of the place - well, it's nicely interior designed as well - but the complex layout is really nice. The apartment has granite counters, stainless steel appliances, a huge fridge, and a washer/dryer in the apt. There are two man-made waterfalls in the community and it's a great place for little dogs. You don't need to go to the dog park since the property is pretty spacious. I love walking my dog down the path, it really feels like you are in a small forest. The staff here is awesome as well, very attentive and they try their best to fix any problems. My sink flooded on Xmas and the plumbers came out pretty fast. There are lots of families here and they are great, everybody is friendly. The pool is the perfect size and the hot tub is kept clean at all times. Great place to live! read more

We moved into these apartments about a year ago because they looked great online and we could completely lease online. We are from out of state. The day we moved into our apartment was the first time we saw them. They weren't like the pictures were were emailed. The kitchen did not have upgraded black and chrome appliances like the pictures. Ours were plan and boring white. We also did not have the cathedral ceilings we were told about either. Apparently those are on the second floor only. The picures of the apartment we thought we were getting showed the catherdral ceilings. The neighborhood is just downright awful. I would never walk alone there at night. There are kids the run screaming through the complex that don't even live there. They ride their bikes through at top speed and don't look out for other people. The walls are so thin I can practically hear what my neighbors are thinking. The parking is a mess. Most of the time people park in my husbands assigned parking spot and the complex wont do anything about it. We came home one night to find a large group of teenagers smoking pot by the dumpsters where our assigned parking spots are. They were actually standing in our parking spot. Your PG&E bill will be out of this world! They apartments are so poorly constructed that you pay out the --- to keep them heated in the winter. The management here is the biggest joke. They constantly put letters in your door reminding you that they can kick you out if they don't like something about your apartments looks. We have gotten two letters because a latern fell down when it was raining and broke, and a second one because they could see our curtains from the outside and thats appparently agaisnt the rules!!! Outrageous. Diane is also the biggest ----- to walk the earth. She thinks these apartments are so wonderful. Good luck dealing with her for anything. Once your in, she doesn't give a ---- about you. The setting is pretty, but...: It's difficult to get a hot bath or shower here, the staff has a very vague sense of customer service, and there isn't a real push to keep the tenent here for a long period of time. Rents, by the way, aren't cheap here for what you get, and you'll be lucky if they can keep track of your records in a complete and precise manner. I love how a bad yelp review results in a "please tell us your problems" but when you actually do so, they ignore them. We've signed a month to month lease at a *huge* premium and are looking to get out of here as fast as we can buy a house. I can't wait... it was 57 degrees in our kitchen this morning, the cobwebs are still on our ceiling, and when we had someone park in our spot for *four straight days* management never even bothered to return our call telling them it was a problem. (They also never replied to a bunch of lease questions, and I'm waiting for someone to be in the office to tell us if we can use the community room, I've called 4-5 times at different times of the day and have yet to have someone answer the phone... hopefully they'll call me back). Really think hard before you rent from Prometheus. The rent increase after your lease ends is very high and the management does not really care as much about keeping its current tenants. When you rent from a company that owns multiple properties, the turn over rate is high. They do several checks on the apartment within the year, meaning they want access to your apartment. I've been renting since I was 18 and Shadowbrook management has entered my house more times than I can count from any other places I've rent from combined. The place looks nice because they constantly do renovations on the place. It is noisy during the day and people are inconsiderate at night even when there are quiet hours. When you call security, you have to weigh if its worth it to call them because it takes an hour for them to respond in most cases and by then your neighbor has already quiet down and gone to bed. Pros: -The apartments especially by the pool side typically do not get very hot. So it helps since none of their apartments have Air conditioning -Has facilities that are clean -Responsive maintenance team (Every time I called for a fix, they responded in a timely manner) Cons: -Management needs access to your apartment several times a year to run their own "checks" -Rent increase after your current lease ends is not reasonable, but what is perceived as "market value" is. -Noisy all the time due to renovations and inconsiderate neighbors. (This is luck of the draw as well because you may not experience this due to the location of your apartment) read more

We moved to this place about a year ago and waited on this review since i believe in experiencing place of living for several months before making an assessment. Initially, your previous management team did an OK job to put nicely. Despite our efforts to keep our patio area to the policy terms, these were totally hyper critical of everything that was visible to the point that did not even want to sit out there. Ever since your management changed, Deborah, Marco, Ariel & the Maintenance staff have turned around the service and response to service requests and inquiries either right away or same day. They are all very proactive and extremely helpful with any concerns. In short, they care for their residents Only cons that I can think of are the pool area guests limit, clubhouse/lounge rent prices crazy high and the rent price is high for a Non-renovated unit. I still live in Shadowbrook and I am supposed to move out next month. I don't want to move but they want to renovate the apartment. The location is pretty great for me. It is close to everything you'll need. I've lived in different parts of the country and I usually prefer condos to apartments because the build quality is usually better and the neighbors being owners make a big difference. Shadowbrook was a pleasant surprise in terms of how good the neighbors are. Everyone wishes you when they bump into you and I have had cases when I was traveling, my neighbor would pick up my packages and leave it at the front office. Lots of neighbors are family with kids so they are all nice. In 2015, having good neighbors is a rarity.The build quality of shadowbrook in itself is ok. There is plenty of closet space and the bedroom is really big. Those are nice. I have two big patios which is helpful in summer. The front office is pretty great. Ariel and Marco are super friendly and help me out every time I go there with a problem. Usually, it's the carpet or the garbage disposer. I am willing to tolerate older buildings as long as it is regularly renovated. My appliances were pretty old. The carpet was a disaster. It smelt bad since my first day. Though the service people cleaned it for me after I moved in, it did not help much. I paid 100$ out of my pocket and steam cleaned it myself. No luck either. I like to cook so the kitchen is a big let down. Mine did not have a microwave and the countertop space wouldn't let me have a decent sized microwave with other kitchen appliances. Also, the kitchen drawers will not open or close well. I get so pissed when that happens. This is something very basic. The sink is a single one. So I have to dish wash every day which is a big annoyance.The laundry room is unlocked during day time and I have seen some weird people (non-residents) use them. There is the occasional annoying teenager who takes one of your socks and puts it in someone else's dryer and then you have to trash your socks. I don't recommend using the room heaters. I got a bill for 184$ when usually I get 40$. The club room is the 'newest' aspect of shadowbrook. Otherwise all the other buildings are old. Overall, shadowbrook gives you a decent living experience. Not too many complaints. I hear they have some renovated apartments now. Those might be better but they do come at higher pricing for less square footage. Bay area is not renter friendly these days. The market is to be blamed than prometheus for the rent. It would have been 4 stars for me but for the kitchen and the carpet. It would have been a 2 star for me if not for Ariel and Marco. read more

I recently moved into this apartment complex about 2 months ago. I don't know why this place is rated so low since I really like it here. Though, the recent reviews are more true to the quality you will be getting if you decide to live here. I was making a long distance move from Sacramento and I didn't have the opportunity to shop around for many apartments. I spent a day looking at over 15 apartments and the moment I saw Shadowbrook, I knew it was the place I wanted to live. Before I even viewed the place, Marco made the process painless and quick. He was courteous, patient, listened to all my concerns and answered all my questions. He he explained the application process and the security deposit in detail and gave us expectations on what we needed to do next. Initially, I felt really reluctant to rent from a huge real estate and property management company since I had a really bad experience before with one in Sacramento. Marco assuaged my fears and I found it service with Prometheus to be more quick and efficient with their service and support. This place is a really quiet, peaceful place to live. People that live here are very friendly, but keep to themselves since they are working individuals who work and come home to relax (at least the ones I've met). The only grip I have is that it costs a lot to live here compared to living in Sacramento or Los Angeles, but its the price you pay for having standards. The facilities look exactly as they are in the pictures: pristine and clean. Management has been responsive to any requests I've sent since I've moved in and I often receive correspondence less than one hour. The only caution I have is you only get free parking space per apartment unit, so if you need more, you have to pay extra on your monthly rent or its street parking. We moved into Shadowbrook at the end of July, and we've had zero major problems thus far. If you're used to apartment living, you really shouldn't have any complaints. Pros - Everyone from the leasing office has been really friendly. Even when we accidentally parked our UHaul in another resident's space (sorry!), they were very cool about the whole thing and made sure to clarify what parking spaces were fair game. They've been good about communicating, as well -- there are reminders for when rent is due as well as detailed notices about construction projects, which is great. - Maintenance personnel have been super clean, professional, and actually effective -- I had horrible maintenance people at my last apartment complex, so I cannot stress the importance of this enough. - The path that winds through the whole complex is really pretty and well maintained; there are two ponds with waterfalls that are frequented by baby ducks and their moms. That may or may not be a pro for you, but personally I like have a little wildlife around in the middle of suburbia. It's a nice place to take a short walk around at night, and every apartment seems to have a balcony or patio that faces this path. - The surrounding area is nice and has a lot of restaurants, groceries, etc., so long as you have a car (it's also very close to Castro street and Murphy). There are restaurants and parks in walking distance, but getting to groceries or the train on foot wouldn't be fun. - Rent can be paid online and laundry is paid through a re-loadable card, so no more turning in checks or searching for quarters. - The units are clean and well taken care of. We ended up in one of the few units that has not been remodeled in the last few years (so ours does not look like the photos online), but the appliances are in good shape and aren't particularly old. The carpeting and windows could definitely use an update, but other than that, no complaints. Cons - The flipside of the well-maintained plants is that there are ants and other little bugs floating around. No cockroaches or anything particularly gross, but you will encounter small spiders, etc. - The walls seem to be pretty thin. Thankfully it's a quiet community, but if someone is being loud next door, you will hear it. But that's what happens when you share a wall, so oh well. - The complex's numbering is a little weird, so delivery people tend to have a hard time finding the correct apartment. I have been living in Shadowbrook Apartments for about 2 years and I love the experience. Its a very convenient location - lots of restaurants, grocery stores, and a CVS nearby. The apartments are well equipped and the landscaping is one of the best in the area. The management is responsive - even during after hours. I've been living at Shadowbrook for a few months and love it so far! The property is so beautiful and shady and all the common areas are newly remodeled and in great shape. I love spending time at the pool and the fitness room is a great size. The assistant manager Marco originally walked us through the property and was great at answering all our questions and concerns. Since I've been here, he's been super responsive and helpful with any questions and requests. The rent is high but anywhere around the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area is as well. The complex is tucked away from the main area of El Camino but everything is still really close - a grocery store, Target, Macy's, tons of food places (fast food and restaurants), downtown Sunnyvale and downtown Mountain View are all really close. read more

Period Stayed: Oct 2011 to Oct 2012 2*2 unit. Pros 1. Spacious units 2. Fireplaces 3. The ladies in the leasing office seem to be nice and responsive. One of the girls who was replaced wasn't that good though. The new team is more polite and except for one person, usually efficient. Cons 1. Our unit would get quite cold and didn't get much natural light. Poor insulation. High heating bills. 2. Dumpster area is congested and stinks! 3. Bathrooms are small with weak or no ventilation, bathtub would take an hour or more to drain if it was full. Tried to get it fixed, but not much help. . 4. Gym was very inconveniently located and equipment was bare minimum. It was also in a small basement. 5. Common facilities are bare minimum and inconveniently located. Unheated pools. Never saw anyone using barbecues. Tried once, prepared everything, only to go and discover, "get your own fuel". 6. Thin walls and window panes. Don't block much noise from outside or neighbors. Annoying construction noises throughout the day. 7. Hardly any community events. 2 or 3 in the last 6 months. One was an ice-cream thing and the other breakfast. In short, poor quality of construction and facilities. Policy and Managament: 8. High Deposit: $600+1 month rent. It was supposed to be refunded in 6 months for timely payment of rent, but never happened despite follow-ups. 9. Management Interaction: Mostly OK. Difficult to explain that "knocking on the door and wait to open" means enter when I open the door. I learnt to lock the bedroom door when taking bath after I had put in a maintenance request. After our lease expired, we stayed for couple of months more. Our lease renewal/converting to month-to-month and then move out process was extremely cumbersome, inefficient, confusing and expensive. In addition, our apartment was in a very good condition when we moved out. However, we were still given a $400 moving expenses bill. I also feel that the leasing office guy at Shadow Brooks didn't bother. He didn't bother to be more involved, be less apathetic and know the policies better and understand the difference between what was flexible and what wasn't. I moved into a completely renovated Studio Apartment a month ago and am more than pleased with the whole package Shadowbrook has to offer. My overall very positive Shadowbrook experience started off with a very professional tour by the Assistant Manager Marco who was not only attentive but very much on top of all things (and I did ask many questions). After the tour I applied straight away which proved to be a very good decision. In general, the management team is extremely friendly & helpful no matter what kind of issue I have. I am particularly impressed by the high level of responsiveness whenever I have questions or requests. Regular get-together events are also organized by the management team which for me highlights their dedication to good service & a certain community spirit. Besides the great service, Shadowbrook offers a nice community area including a small gym - all nicely integrated into the pool area in a modern & tasteful manner. The Studio Apartment which I can speak for is ideal for one person, but also spacious enough to host dinner for friends (the high quality kitchen is great for people who like to cook). The complex has good facilities like swimming pool, spa and health center. Apartment is pretty spacious with a lot of cabinets. Parking is convenient, everyone gets a free slot and you can lease an additional slot. Parking for guests is a bit difficult as they have to park on the street. But when we complained the leasing office team and especially Deborah went above and beyond to get us happy. We have been living here for almost 2 years. They have renovated the apartment before we moved in. They basically painted another layer over the cabinet and placed laminate floor over the hallway, bathroom and kitchen area. After a year, nails raised up from the kitchen and bathroom floors! We have to ask them to redo the flooring. OMG! It is surprised to see with the economy downturn and rent coming down over over town, they are going to increase the store room and water usage fee! Keith in the leasing office was absolutely awesome. I told him that I was expecting to move in the next 2-3 months and he showed me what they had and told me a bit about the property. Saltwater pool looked very nice, as did the renovated 2nd floor two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. I loved the vaulted ceilings and the counterspace in the kitchen. I'm not sure how I felt about some of the downstairs patios not being enclosed, as well as the lack of a storage closet on the patio but whatever. When it comes time to move my boyfriend and I will seriously be considering this place. read more

I have been here for a week. Everything is nice, both the environment and the amenities. For me , I just moved to CA, actually I just moved to the USA. It's been a hard time for me to look for a nice place to live. Marco is very kind to help me with all the rental procedures. Ariel is also very friendly to help me when I am in need. My husband and I just moved into Shadowbrook this week-- the experience has been excellent. During our apartment search Marco, the assistant manager, really impressed us with his attentiveness and eagerness to make us feel comfortable. This was the first thing that made Shadowbrook stand out from the rest. Additionally, the grounds themselves are beautiful. The apartments we saw (2 bed 2 bath) were spacious and clean. They also have wonderful porches, which was important because we have a small dog. So far, every question we have asked has been promptly and politely answered by Marco and the team at Shadowbrook-- they've gone above and beyond for us, so naturally we feel very taken care of. I haven't been the easiest renter so far-- I am really allergic to cats and could not rent an apartment that had a cat living in it prior without doing a major cleaning overhaul on the unit. Marco was a rockstar--he told me all they could do to deep clean the apartment, as well as found a unit for me that had never had a cat on its lease. We went with the cat-free unit and we're very happy and allergy free. I am so appreciative for this extra attention and kindness. Lovely place, great staff. Highly recommend. read more

I moved to shadowbrook just a couple months ago, the rent is okay, but what is not okay is the management lying to tenants! When we moved in they told us ; there's gonna be a seismic constructions on the house, but that is it, the rest of constructions will not include your apartment and will not disturb you....What a LIE! They are planing to do constructions for another 2 years and it is including the whole property here! The will change roofs, and everything around.. Not mentioning the asbestos ceilings in some apartments which can cause cancer!!! They won't lower your rent! And If you survive the enormous noise every day, about 20 workers on your roof and balcony, asbestos, there will come another construction again and again... They will give you a paper notice on your door, probably a day before it, so you couldn't prepare or break your lease or do anything about it. Yes you may complain, but management of shadowbrook will not pay attention to you. Make yourself a good and DON'T move here! and what worse, this is not the first time prometheus risk health of their tenants! it happened before in 2007 in other prometheus property. For us it looked like ideal place to live, but they took away our privacy.... I highly recommend to not move here. read more

Management office was friendly, but unresponsive and unhelpful. Lightbulbs in common areas were out for weeks - I should haven't to submit a request to have them replaced. We were charged a fee - 4 dollars! - just to receive our bill each month. Utility costs (sewer, garbage) seem way too high. We've moved and they say it will take 3 weeks just to get our deposit back. We were required to have our carpet professionally cleaned when moving out, even though we've only been there for 6 months. Painted counters - who paints countertops!?? - in the bathrooms and kitchen. Like others said, high heating bills b/c the insulation is poor - even when they had the opportunity to upgrade with the recent construction. I think what drives me crazy the most - the plethora of notices on our door about various things, with so many typos and grammatical errors, I just want to get out a red pen. read more

I just moved into Shadowbrook last weekend, so I can't say too much about my quality of life living here so far, but I can honestly rave about the service I received from Marco, the assistant manager, in the leasing office. My husband and I were relocating from AZ to the Bay Area, and we came up a few weekends ago to find a place. Marco was so friendly, informative, and got us in and out with all of our options with minimal pressure tactics. The unit, the price, and the entire complex is beautiful, so we were hooked. Since then, Marco has been completely instrumental in getting us ready to move in with the least amount of stress. I recommend the Shadowbrook complex and Marco's superior customer service to anyone! read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE, NO MATTER WHAT! THIS IS A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION SITE THAT SHOULD BE DECLARED LEGALLY UNINHABITABLE!! We've already put up with FOUR MONTHS of unbearable noise and vibration, water, power, cable, phone, and internet shutoffs, unfixed hole in our balcony (my foot went through rotten boards we had been complaining about for over a year). Late this afternoon (maybe as late as 6:00) we got our first notice that three days from now they will begin 3 to 4 weeks of replacing our building's roof and gutters, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F, with the "potential" of also "a Saturday schedule or two." That announcement says: "There will be workers on ladders, roof surfaces, and possibly on a balcony during this project as early as 8am.... For your privacy, please closer your blinds for this short inconvenience." Short inconvenience?! THREE TO FOUR WEEKS?! Our apartment, like most, lacks air conditioning. It gets hot here. We will have to keep our windows closed! "You should remove or secure any pictures, mirrors, or other personal items from the walls, cabinets or shelves that could possibly fall and get damaged. Also, if you have china cabinets, television sets, or any other furniture against the walls, you should pull them away from the wall about six inches if possible.... Though the workers will do their best to keep areas free from falling debris there is always the potential for debris to fall from the roof.... With this potential for debris to accidentally fall off the roof to the ground during the work process, we ask that everyone be aware of their surroundings avoid being around overhangs and near equipment that could pose a problem." THE ONLY WAY WE CAN AVOID OVERHANGS IS TO NEVER LEAVE OUR APARTMENT! We are looking at the re-roofing at the building next to us, where there is no protective netting to prevent the proliferation of large, heavy items from falling off the roof. When we renewed our lease, management said only that there will be "major construction" but that it would not affect our building! That was an outright lie. They did not explain what "major construction" was--none of the activities nor consequences that they knew full well were already long-planned. Management has failed to return most of our phone calls, and rarely is in the office during their posted business hours when we have tried to talk to them in person. They refuse to lower our rent. In fact they insist on raising our rent nearly $200/month even if we renew for 12 months from our about-to-expire 6 months. They insist on an increase of nearly $700/month if we renew at month-to-month. With three days notice about this new, even more horrible, construction, we will have to pay $700 extra next month while we find a new place and continue to "live" in this uninhabitable major construction site. What they should have done is give us accurate notification at least a month in advance, and given us the choice of moving out without penalty, or staying with a 50% reduction in our rent. We have spoken to seven neighbors so far, who are just as upset as we are. We suspect Shadowbrook might not even have all the legal permits required for this work. Tomorrow we will try to get the city of Sunnyvale to shut down construction for at least a month due to illegal safety, noise, and other living conditions, to give us all time to move out. This is not just a Shadowbrook issue. This is the intentional policy of Prometheus management. Do not rent from Prometheus. read more

My husband and I lived in Shadowbrook for 4 months. It was a short term lease because the unit was scheduled to be renovated. But our stay was enough to make us love this apartment complex! Firstly, the management team was very efficient. We seldom had issues with the unit but when we did, Ariel or Marco would try to have them fixed the very same day. One morning I went to the office to report a leak in our sink and that same afternoon, Chuck, the maintenance guy was in the unit to repair it. Secondly, the amenities are top notch. We enjoyed hanging out in the common areas which were beautifully designed and are always kept clean. We just wished that they kept it open longer. The common ares are closed as early as 6PM and the gym was closed at 10PM. Rent is a bit pricey but we got what we paid for. read more
