GREAT SERVICE!! I live in this apartment for a while now and unfortunately, due to a fire accident our kitchen got damaged. The team management was very good enough to offer us a new home as an internal transfer for the same price and lease team (though the new home is little more than our current pricing). Manish from the management team really helped us with all the work. He was very patiently enough to go through all the issues with us and really helped us in the transfer. I'm sad that I have to give it a not so good review. Living here isn't so bad. It's quiet and pleasant. The walls and floors are thin and out downstairs neighbor always complained that we were too loud even though we were too toeing and whispering. The biggest problem is when you move out. They took my entire deposit. I only lived there one year and they deducted a cleaning fee after I left the place spotless and hired a professional cleaner. I sent a receipt. They have ignored me. There's a bunch of charges I don't agree with via the video I took of my apartment looking perfect but they just ignore my emails. I'll consider taking down the review once I've been refunded some of those charges. read more

We'll miss you Bristol! Office Staff: Marco, Pablo, and Geti are really friendly and incredibly empathetic. The main office came up with cool virtual events, and food truck spot once a week to cheer up residents and is by far above and beyond service that I've received by any apartment. They always make the time to stop and listen when we dropped on by, and helped us problem solve when things came up. Maintenance: Maintenance here is top notch, and you can tell they work really well together and care to make things right. All staff wore masks when in the house, which I appreciate the planning and consideration that goes into that. Special shout out to Dan Evdokimov: he was always really pleasant and friendly around the complex, respectful of our household (mask and shoe covering and cleans up after!), patient, and took a lot of time to troubleshoot various issues. I stress the patient. Thank you Dan! The grounds: the apt is maintained by gardeners once or twice a week, they come in the AM to blow the many leaves away. It's a bit loud but they do a good job. The staff takes time to also sanitize the tables, grills, and chairs (important during covid!). The pool is nice, and is disability accessible which is impressive out of other apartments I've seen. There is also a hot tub on premise. And nice communal grills. There is a DOG WASH on site as well. (Like at a groomers!) This apartment complex is very dog friendly- and some kitties too! Cons: The only thing about this apartment that I would change is the washers. They're very temperamental (though new)- you can hear them banging around all the apartments as they get off kilter very easily. Not really the apartment's fault it's the appliance itself that is whacky. You have to be very, very mindful of how you load, and how much. read more

Update: Angelina Vasquez got back to me. She was sincere, receptive and genuinely interested in listening to my grievances. She promised me to look into it followed with the prompt action. Part of the reason for repeat stay in Bristol Commons was, I had stayed at the community earlier from 2007 to 2011 and it was a quite pleasant experience. I would give 4.5 stars :) (cut 1/2 star) for not allowing walk through which would have resolved problem then and there and would have saved some headache/heartache for everyone. Original: I agree 100% with the previous reviewer Laura C. I wished I checked the reviews before deciding to stay here. Staying here was pleasant, hassle free and convenient. Community is peaceful and safe. Maintenance is quite prompt. There is a huge problem when moving out. I lived here for 9 months when I sold my house and was in the process of buying a new one. 1. Apartment was given back in spic and span condition and they still charged me 400$ for cleaning. 2. I didn't touch walls at all as I was going to live here temporarily and they still charged me 200$ for wall paint. 3. Cooktop stove was in a good and working condition. They charged me 475.00 $ for replacement ! ....which is a completely made up charge ! They didn't offer me a walk through while leaving the apartment. I was in a hassle of moving to a new house and didn't pay much attention. Right now fighting a battle with them. read more

tl;dr Good budget spot close to Downtown Sunnyvale and El Camino. Front office is generally responsive (Darlene is amazing) and maintenance team is great, s/o Dan! However you will likely have noise problems from upstairs neighbors (thin ceilings). Pros: Insides of the apartments are nice, faux hardwood in entry way and kitchen, faux tile in bathroom and carpet in living room and bedrooms. I prefer the rooms without the fireplace, more space. For whatever reason, you have to run our dryer twice to fully dry clothes. Could have something to do with it initially not being connected to the wall (I hopped behind it to connect it on our first day in the apartment). Since then, no major issues. Grounds are well kept; crew will come through and gather leaves, sweep walkways, trim bushes, handle trash, etc. Good maintenance team; have always had someone fixing a ticket of mine within 24 hours. Cons: Biggest complaint by far is the thinness of the shared ceiling/floor. While the side walls are exceptionally thick (never hear any noise at all), the vertical walls must either be paper thin or giants live above us. You can hear normal heavy walking and any time someone drops something. Most normal noises (tv, yelling, music) are muted but vibrations pass through so easily. With loud upstairs neighbors, this place is a 3 star. With normal neighbors or living on the third floor, I'd bump it to 4.5 read more

The maintenance team that helps with issues is so awesome and would like to give them 5 stars. We recently had an issue with dish washer and Dan Evdokimov helped fix this. Dan explained to me what the issue was, fixed it and tested the dishwasher was running without issues. He also noticed that our kitchen faucet was a little loose and offered to fix this. The apartment itself is great and I would give that 5 stars. The maintenance team that takes care of stuff is great and I would give them 5 stars. I lived here for 2.5 years and liked how central the location is but here are the reasons for my star rating 1. The gym equipment is a farce. Half of the stuff is broken or missing. Its been 2.5 years of me telling these guys to get simple handle bars or other inexpensive pieces of equipment to make the one large machine more effective and they never bothered to spend 1 cent on it. 2. The turnover of staff is so frequent, that I stopped bothering to remember people's names. There is no personal connection you can make with the management staff to make it feel like a home community. Every time you walk in there, you see a new face 3. I was promised a free carpet clean which I renewed my rental and I wanted to use when I moved out only to be told sorry I couldn't. The person over the phone makes up a story saying i can only use it for 90 days. I said go speak to the manager of the property who promised me this - oh the manager has gone - had to pay for the carpet clean 4. beware of the move out statement. They charge me for painting one wall because it was a different color. Apparently, they have nothing on their record saying that it wasn't a different color before I moved in, implying that i painted the wall in my tenure there. Yes, I would waste money painting in a one-bed rental for no reason. They did refund that amount only after I fought 5. Rent increases are crazy so don't get sucked in. I started at 2.5K and in 2.5 years I was at 2.86K. 6. Finally the WORST ONE for me - I paid the one-month termination fee and was told I would be refunded if they found someone to move in. The person moved in within 10 days or so of me moving out. I've called 5 times now (not kidding) even complained to the customer service and NO ONE has called me back even though every time I call them they say the manager will call me back. Two weekends in a row I was told someone would call me and of course no one did. They are just refusing to refund my termination fee and I think I might have to go to BBB to file an official complaint. Its crazy. you miss rent they charge you a large fine but when the tables are flipped - they don't care. read more

5 stars for the maintenance team. One star less for the front office which high turnover makes it difficult for consistent communication. Mail packages can sometimes be a problem as of late. Otherwise, read on: After being a resident here for 7+ years, I'd have to say our overall experience have been great! While the front office seem to have quite a bit of change and turn over, this seems to have minimally impacted our stay. What really defined Bristol Commons is the maintenance team and this is where I give my shout out! They are absolutely the best and I highly admire their dedication. I've been most impressed with Miguel, Jose, and Dan whom I've interacted with most frequently. Extremely fast and responsive, and always has a fix for needed repairs I didn't even know there was a solution. I've never had to worry about the maintenance of my home, from keeping the drain flowing to replacing my dryer, and fixing pipe leaks in the ceiling. The pool at Bristol Commons was a nice feature although a bit on the cold side - there's always a hot tub. We don't have pets but I can appreciate the latest new pet spa community amenity to give our little furry friends a pampering clean. There's a small shared office space for those working remotely and I've used that once or twice. I wished I had a chance to use the BBQ area, it always looked inviting with the Gazebo being a nice touch. During my stay, there's constant property improvement projects which is nice to know it's being cared for. With respect to rent, an easy payment system is offered and found it to be fair market value. Other Residents are friendly and generally respectful of privacy as well. Ultimately, what defined our stay is the trustworthy maintenance team that has remained my constant. It was nice to have their support and one less thing to worry about as a mom focused on enjoying young little ones and work. They offered me a stellar deal which could not be turned down. I am moving from SF to sunnyvale in this lockdown period. Stayed at a ground level 2-bedroom property for one year and paid around $3,800 monthly (management tacks on trash, water, sewer, yada yada, which add up quickly). The place had an old carpet and scratched-up hardwood floor and little access to sun light. One car port for the wife and open parking for my car exposed to scorching ray in sunny Sunnyvale, CA. The management does try to keep the exterior well-maintained and we were pleased with friendly/hardworking service staff. The interior leaves a lot to be desired - it's a mix of old appliances and haphazardly done kitchen remodeling. Feels like you are driving an old Honda civic that has a Lexus logo on it (see a sample of photos we took before we moved in). Anyways, one year passes and the management jacks up the rent by $350 extra, which makes it an easy decision to leave. During our stay we treated the place like we owned it and left it in the same condition as we went in. So we thought. Just received a move-out statement showing charges for carpet cleaning, apartment cleaning, and a paint job which exceeds the deposit we put it. Shameless. My wife and I rented most of our adult life and not once were given a move-out statement with charges. If you are moving from out-of-state and need to sign a lease quickly, then this place may be an option (this was our case). But be prepared to overpay for a mediocre property, a rent hike when the lease renews, and get charged for cleaning when you move out. I guess the management can get away with all this because that's the going rate around here. Glad we moved out of there and found a better (and cheaper) place in Saratoga. I have been living here for over a year now and would like to share my thoughts. I really like the community as it has a calm atmosphere and is pet friendly. The property is well maintained and has plenty of parking space. The staff at the leasing office is friendly and the maintenance team is quick to respond to maintenance requests. I recently needed help with my lease and Darlene from the leasing office graciously agreed to assist me. She explained the lease renewal process and addressed all my queries in a timely manner. DISCLAIMER: This is a review not for the apartment but only on the management. We ended up at Bristol Commons on one fateful day while my wife and I were actively searching for apartments in the Sunnyvale region. My wife had already talked to someone on phone who seemed pleasant and gave a good rough quote of the apartment we were looking for. On going there, she encountered this person named Faith who was not only rude but did the following things. - Opened the desktop for checking the quote and stared blankly at my wife continuously for 2 minutes without saying a word. Then leaned into my wife while she was checking her mobile and asked her what she was doing without respecting her privacy! - On asking what was wrong, she pointed her towards the door without saying a word. My wife took her ID and walked out. I am sorry but this is not the way you behave with anyone. - After bringing this up with another agent on the premises, she got to know that no apartments are available, when they just confirmed one was sometime ago on the phone. I know this borders on a rant and I generally give only positive review on Yelp. But my wife was really creeped out and rang me up immediately telling this was what had happened. I was apartment hunting online and came across this place. I called them for a price quote and the gentleman said he'd call me back in a few minutes since he had to pull up the quotes. Ok, that's cool; I can wait. (Btw, I was on a time crunch as my lease was about to expire at my current place). And I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, a day goes by without a call back, so I decided to follow up. I spoke with a lady this time and told her about the previous dude (no longer a gentleman if he can't return my call). She said, and I quote, "He'll call you when he calls you." and hung up. Okay lady, what kind of answer is that? If this is how they treat prospective, or "future residents" they all like to call it, imagine how they would treat you once you actually sign the damn lease Btw, I never got a call back. But it wouldn't matter because I wouldn't have lease with you guys anyway. read more

Our leasing specialist Darlene is super nice and patient, she's been very helpful since the beginning of our tour. The maintenance team is very great and responsive. The staff is all very courteous, but what they make up for in politeness, they lack in taking action. As a current tenant who recently renewed my lease, my air conditioning has not reliably worked since May 30. 5 HVAC techs have been here all blaming different things, and on 2 occasions my ceiling has been dripping water from the panel. It seems difficult in general to get attention from the parent company, Essex. I've emailed Tenant Relations three times, but apparently they only escalate with email back to the property manager, which completely defeats the point. I even called Essex HQ and left voicemail with the regional manager last week, but no one has called me back. The property manager continues to thank me for my patience, while I work occasional night shifts and cannot sleep during the day due living on the top floor, as heat rises. I've opened the windows and put fans in them, but as my balcony overlooks the courtyard, groups of children gather to play soccer and ride their razor scooters every evening from about 6-9, the shouting echoes off the other buildings, which is louder than earplugs can handle, even with the windows closed. Look elsewhere if you are old and crotchety like me, or work night shifts like me. After weeks of promises, there is still no ETA on an air conditioning replacement for my unit. New junior one bedrooms are listed at $2100/mo. The bathroom is so tiny that the sink is actually in the bedroom. For the amount of rent this property charges (market or not), I expect far better service than 5 weeks of half-assed repairs and no replacement for something as crucial as a/c in a heat wave. My apartment was one of the first remodeled when I moved in, which also raised my expectations. On a side note, presumably they will be continuing with current remodeling of other units that may be disruptive to you. My wife and I lived here for a year and never once had any issues. There was tons of visitor parking, (I got a spot 15 feet from my front door daily). This complex is truly dog friendly, people walk their dogs all the time on the grass and its a very social complex. The gym looks nice but has zero free weights which was a bit of a turn off for me but the cardio equipment is great. The pool is brand new and looks nice even though I never went it it. We have friend couple that was currently living at the Bristol when we decided to lease there. I was reading the reviews and totally ignored the cons for the fact that our friends were pretty happy. It was great! We love the layout of our unit and the location we have a lot of sun! We were pretty happy for about 5 months. Until someone move in above us. That neighbor is insanely loud. Stomp like crazy, move furnitures in the middle of the night, drop things which will just startle you at any time. My husband and I started taking notes and recordings and been complaining officially a week after she moved in. We even consider moving to a higher level with no one above us but there was none available. The place was no longer livable for us and we just had enough, I also got tired of emailing management almost every week. They have changed the flooring of the upper unit but it does not help. I think we got unlucky of a very bad combination. The buildings were not noise insulated enough and you get a neighbor with the heaviest feet. It was our first time to lease an apartment community and think we will never do it again. For Bristol, you got great staff special mention to Joseph and Julio, thank you for helping us with our concern. We moved out and solved our problem but your problem is still there. We don't think anyone can take that level of noise at the rate of the rent. The look of the property is great and updated but the isolation between floors needs to be improved, Badly!!! read more

My wife and I have lived in Bristol for almost a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed the community. We have a great inside facing apartment which overlooks the lawns and two large trees which houses many birds and squirrels. My wife picked up the apartment because of these views. We got a brand new renovated unit which comes with stainless steel appliances, white countertops, wooden floors in the dining &living areas, and new light fixtures. The community is quiet and serene even though it's less than a mile from downtown and in between two tracks. Access to the 7 eleven and shops on Wolfe have been very useful for us. The maintenance teams are great and Faith does a good job of managing the property. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Sunnyvale, close to the Caltrain, Central exp, Lawrence, Costco etc definitely consider this place. read more

My wife and I stayed at Bristol Commons from summer '08 to spring '09. We can't say enough good things about the management - having lived in many different apartment complexes, you come to appreciate it when the management is professional, courteous and willing to help and work through lease and apartment issues. We moved from one unit to another in Bristol Commons when our lease was up and the move-out/move-in process was easy and there were no surpises. When we finally found a home and moved out, our escrow process was delayed, but Bristol Commons gave us some options on the lease to stay a few extra days. Again, there were no surprises - they detailed everything out clearly and fairly, especially the charges for moving out and cleaning. As CP pointed out, the landscaping is really ambitious at this complex - they're always clearing leaves and mowing the lawn that it seems like they're there every other day and they spend a long time doing their work. That would be my only complaint. Our neighbors were quiet and respectful, and we never heard loud music or commotions late at night. We'll miss Bristol Commons and highly recommend it if you're looking for an apartment. read more

Bristol Commons is a home unlike any other. Yes, the rent increases are painful to bear, and the price itself is nothing to laugh at, but you are paying for a quality space. The layouts of the apartments are incredible. You will never feel cramped and there is plenty of storage both inside and on the well-sized patio. The neighbors are always extremely considerate, and the environment is warm and welcoming. Everything about this complex is incredible from the manicured property, the pool, to the management. My husband and I never had any issues with maintenance or online payments. Everything was smooth and easy. I almost wish they'd let us buy the apartment so we could call it our forever home! read more

Update: this place is still a nice community and the staff is wonderful, but unfortunately they will raise your rent 10% each year. This is a term of the lease agreement so I shouldn't have been surprised, but so far both years we have been here they have hiked the rent up. There are actual houses you can rent for what they are trying to charge, just do your research before signing anything. Again, this is a nice community, but the rent is very high and they will increase it as much as they can each year. I loved living here. There is a great community feel, dog-friendly and safe. It has generally been quiet, and always comfortable. Joseph Hidalgo, management staff, is the reason I chose this place over similar complexes in the area. If I ever had a question or concern he was easy to communicate with, and happy to help. It is clear that he is concerned about the quality of life for his tenants. The location is great, within easy walk to downtown Sunnyvale's Farmer's Market, Target, and local restaurants. This complex is the sweet spot for paying a reasonable rent in this area. The only reason we are moving to a new location is that both my husband and I recently changed jobs which are taking us much further north. read more

Upon graduating from college I received a job in California. So, I had to remotely search for an apartment from Texas and the staff at Bristol Commons was extremely helpful! Their commitment to helping me and their honesty has led to me leasing at this complex and I am extremely glad that I have. The apartment has exceeded my expectations and the area is fantastic. The unit itself is updated, clean, and quiet. Faith and Morgan in the leasing office have made my transition from Texas to California extremely easy and stress free.
