Since we were in…read morethe middle of two of those start times, they said we could go against the book & start whenever we were available which was at 2:30. They had no other bookings & with the late start, she was very clear we could just return it at 7:30 which was their closing time. We let her know how much we appreciated that. The manager & all of the staff were very nice & showed my family & out of state friends true midwest hospitality. Overall, everything was going well until the game warden pulled us over because the boat didn't have registration displayed or readily available. He let us off with a warning but said he would be contacting the marina. Next, while out fishing around 6:30 the store owner came out & was extremely aggressive & irate towards all 11 of us because he was unaware of the manager giving us the extra time for free. I attempted to let him know the conversation me & multiple friends had with the manager, & he asked me if I could do math. He stated he didn't care what the manager said, only what the register said. At this point he started cursing around young children on our boat, not allowing us to speak & made us come in in a rush. We returned to the marina to him red faced angry & some extremely uncomfortable looking employees that were previously vibrant & happy when he wasn't there. They acted as if they have dealt with this behavior before. After trying to deescalate the situation while calmly explaining our conversation with the manager to him, it was very clear he wasn't going to budge or hear us. He then told us he "don't come back". It's a shame the Owner ruined the entire trip for my toddler, out of town friends, & family had their experience ruined by the store owner. Not a family safe environment especially for smaller children.

I visited my close friends last weekend at Pomona Lake and we decided that fishing would be a fun…read moreactivity. So, we rented a pontoon at Pomona Lake Marina. Things started out great. The staff was extremely friendly, and quite honestly very hospitable. We were laughing and having a great time with all of the staff in the shop, and we even bought some of the merch to commemorate the trip! Things went downhill when we were pulled over by the DNR because our pontoon didn't have registration posted on the vehicle, in accordance with local law. Luckily, he gave us a pass because it wasn't our boat--But it certainly put a damper on the evening. That was nothing compared to what happened next. After a miscommunication with one of the staff there (again, she was incredibly sweet, and I don't blame her for this), we got pulled up on by the owner of the marina. Long story short, we were past our rental time--but that wasn't our understanding. Regardless, this man lacked any professionalism, berating my friends and swearing in front of his children. We recognized there must have been a communication and agreed to return immediately, but rather than being satisfied that he had completed the task--he continued to scream and yell at us, in a frankly childlike manner. When we returned, there he was, this Hulk-Hogan-looking angry man, excited at his opportunity to continue screaming at us for an honest mistake (that I still believe was NOT our fault.) The children were scared, the night was ruined, and we were left bewildered at the lack of professionalism. I'm NOT a local--but the intimidation and fear tactics used by the owner of this place were ridiculous. Even the other workers looked extremely uncomfortable. If you're a traveler like myself looking for a fun day on the lake, look elsewhere.
