I was craving a falafel sandwich today and thought I'd go for something on the healthier side. I decided to try Shah's Halal. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly woman who took my order, which was a nice start. The service was quick--I only waited a couple of minutes before receiving my food. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. What I received was not what I expected. A proper falafel sandwich is typically served inside a pita, but this one came wrapped like a burrito. For $9.25, I got just four falafel patties--not balls--and they were large, mushy, lacked crispness, and had very little flavor. The quantity was underwhelming and didn't justify the price. Not only was the sandwich disappointing, but I also haven't felt well since eating it. While the rest of the menu seems popular, judging by how busy the place was, the mystery meats in the trays didn't look appealing to me either. Food is always warm and delicious. Tender lamb and chicken always hits. Shahs also offers other protein options (fish, kofta, etc..) Love the sauces. If you like something herbaceous try the green sauce with the white. It's a delight and let me also mention service is prompt! This is a great place for a quick late night nite. There are open pretty late and the place was hopping after 9:30 pm. We went with the lamb over rice and the chicken over rice. The salad that came with the meal did not have much to it. A piece or 2 of tomatoes, lettuce and nothing else. At least they were generous with the sauces. Loved the white sauce. The green and red added the needed kick. There were falafels, gyros, wings, and other items on the menu if you did not want the chicken or lamb over rice. They had a large selection of drinks in bottles. Snapple had its own case. This was not as good as the nyc street vendors but okay. Seating available at the place but limited. Exactly what I said in my prior review a year ago it's the complete opposite now. I don't know why they aren't giving extra white sauce like they were before & it's getting annoying now, because the food tastes better with the white sauce. They use to put two in the bag, then it became one & now it's none. The last time I ordered they also didn't put enough white sauce on my food & I had two orders. They are consistently not giving sauce now even though I'm selecting "extra white sauce". I don't order this frequently, however the next time I order, I will try a different location. Their food has always been consistent for the most part, the service is friendly & quick and I find it to be quite addicting. Either way, I think Halal food is delicious whether it's lamb, chicken or falafel, it's the white sauce that makes it stand out. The male manager is very kind, nice and everyone is at this location is hardworking...the ambiance is not much to rave about. The Shah's White Sauce alone is worth the trip. It's a versatile sauce you can add to chicken, salads, lamb and falafel and drizzled on pita. I really didn't care for the lamb, I prefer strips of lamb vs. small cut cubes...slightly salty. Would have preferred chicken marinaded the same way as the lamb, but avoided the chicken because it was coated it some type of red marinade, so I knew it would be too spicy. I have hear many great things about this specific location over the others and I was very impressed with how good the food tasted. I came here with my business partner after 10pm on a Monday night, I got the Lamb over Rice with Pita. They have a few veggies to choose from as well, I just stuck to my usual with rice, meat, lettuce, and pita. The hot sauce was not really spicy, their white sauce is exactly how I would imagine it to be at some of the other usual chicken and rice spots for me. I did try a little bit of their green sauce, although I was not getting much taste from it since the plate was flooded with more white sauce then anything. The staff is very friendly and pleasant, the place is clean. I plan on coming here one more time before I leave NY, if you have not come here and you enjoy Madina's on Little Neck and Hillside, then this place is a must try. read more

I saw that Shah's was accepting orders on UberEats so I decided to order the lamb combo platter with peppers, onion, chickpeas, hummus and black beans. I also ordered a side of baklava. Best Halal in our area! We get takeout every couple of weeks - perfect for a quick, reasonably priced dinner. The service is always friendly and efficient, and the food is on point. Catered from here earlier in the month for a large fundraiser. Asked for individual platters but instead received large trays. But it gets worse. Despite the fact that they did not give us what we requested they failed to provide us with any serving spoons, plates, napkins, etc and overall did a horrible job. However, not giving the full 5 stars because the employee serving my food was not wearing her mask correctly. In the 2 times in the past 3 days, she wore her mask below her nose and it makes me feel uneasy given that she is the one serving my food. So the strangest thing happened. I received a message on Yelp from one of the owners of Shah's Halal Food. He offered me a comp meal for 2 so that I may come back to try their restaurant again; in hopes of changing my experience there. I did contact the owner via Yelp message and calling his cell #; never to be heard from again! What the heck is all that about? Why bother to contact me if you weren't going to follow through with your offer? Of course, this leaves me with a bad impression of the business. Well, I decided to give them another chance anyway. I went back on a weekend evening. The place was empty. The food was exactly the same. My 3 star rating stays. My biggest grip is (again) that the meats are pre-cooked and kept in a steamer. Two reasons why this is a big deal: (1) the cubed, steamed meats lack that delicious grilled flavor and texture that you get from the street carts, and (2) the temperature of the meats are only warm, not hot. As before, their salads/dressings are fresh and delicious. Maybe I should just stick to their salads and falafels next time (and the falafels better NOT be steamed!! ugghhh). read more

My mom and my boyfriend wanted to drop by after shopping in Long Island and this location was on the way home. We were greeted by their amazing staff, his name was Fazal. He was very helpful and informative about this chain. Loved his professionalism. Food: the food was very good, not a lot of oil and the spice was mild but flavorful. We ordered the chicken over rice, lamb platter and a mixed platter and some fried fish to stay And we got a burger, and Philly cheesesteak and baklava to go. The fried fish get its own mention b/c it was simply delicious - especially the crunchiness of the skin. The sauces are very fresh and flavorful- that my mom requested for extra. My friends ordered takeout from Shah's and I got the kofta kebob with rice and pita. The platter in general can serve up to two people or two servings. It's quite a lot of food. The flavour is good. I thought kofta kebob would be beef but they only had chicken kofta kebob. The rice had a lot of good flavour and the white sauce is great as well. The hot sauce is not as spicy as the one from the halal guys cart but it's spicy for sure. If you want to be healthy, I suggest skipping the rice and pita bread and just having salad with the meat/falafel. The falafel plate my friend ordered was really good.
