This review is done by a South Indian taste buds on 9/25/22 Your experience may differ. I have been enjoying halal food for years, predominantly in Queens and Brooklyn. There are two types of halal in my opinion. One that is more Asian Indian style and one that is middle eastern style. This cart is the latter. The difference is the rice they use and flavor of the food. Indian styles rice is usually more yellowish and flavorful. The meat is more spiced and cooked with more onions and sometimes you can request food to be cooked more spicier in which case they may add more ingredients like green chileas and spices. I visited this cart because it was close to my house and had many good reviews. When I arrived I saw four halal carts. This cart was getting all the business. Yes, I made the right choice I thought to myself! I looked at the cart personal. Not Asian based. I asked for the food to be made more spicy, lady shrugged her shoulder and said she will put more hot sauce. The food came out within two minutes of me asking for three combos of chicken and lamb over rice, a red flag popped in head. I had the lamb over rice. The lamb was cut into big chunks and tasted like it was steamed with no flavor. Had they cut it smaller and suauted it longer it might have had more flavor. The white sauce was too tart and no parsley, dill, or other ingredients incorporated in it. The hot sauce was hot, with really no flavor. The rice was an off white color and bland. The salad is just mainly lettuce, no tomatoes and no big slices of onion. My family did not enjoy the food. My wife can cook better lamb frozen from Costco cooked with Sazon seasoning, she uses basmatti rice and some spices to make the rice yellow and her white sauce is even better. read more

It's been a couple of years since I ate at a halal cart, mainly because a lot of them, while delicious, didn't have the flavor I remember having when I ate from there the very first time. Until now. I ordered my go to: chicken over rice with bbq sauce and white sauce, which was $8. It tasted just as I remembered it, the sauces were delicious, the bbq sauce was sweet and tangy and the white sauce was creamy and soft(?). The chicken was tender and still pretty juicy and the rice was fluffy. The lettuce added a nice crunch with each bite and tasted really good with the sauces. I wasn't able to finish the whole thing and ate the leftovers for lunch the next day and it was still just as delicious. Normally I love going to The Halal Guys cart in Manhattan but I live on the Queens/Long Island border and driving to the city wasn't in the plans. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. I got the chicken and lamb combo over rice and purchased a plain kofta just to try it. When I say a burst of authentic middle eastern flavors and spices shined through, I mean the food was seasoned to perfection! A platter is under $10 and it even comes with a free canned drink. Welcome to New York! Just in case you haven't Halal-ed, chicken and rice is just what you need. There are two Hamza and Madina halal food carts here in the Floral park area, one at 253-11 Hillside avenue and a second one here at 256-21 Union turnpike between chase bank and the bagel shop, I usually buy my halal food here along union turnpike. My usual order is lamb over rice with salad, and my choice of sauce is the white sauce with 3 lines of hot sauce, I also get one choice of either bottled water or soda. The lamb that are usually cooked here is slightly crispy but not well done, not cut into large chunks and not too small just to add enough good texture to the food when you eat it, I don't like some halal food carts where they cut the lamb to small pieces as if it was minced. They are consistent cooking their rice with turmeric, they don't cook it soggy, the combination of rice lamb and spices are good, each ingredient not over-powering the taste of the other. The seller and the buyer here already have a common lingo on how many "lines"of hot sauce or barbecue sauce should be put on top of it, the more lines the spicier it is. For anyone who have not yet tried halal food or anyone who likes halal food, try this spot and you will love it comparable to other halal vendors in the area. Prices are great but I feel like the portions are small as other places give larger portions for sure with a slight difference in price. I never actually checked this place out even though I walk past it like everyday. My brother insisted we go there as he's a frequent customer of theirs. Personally to me the falafel platter should have more than just falafel, rice and lettuce. It's great to have blend of vegetables but sadly it felt like the plate was covered with white sauce mostly. Lines are usually long and waiting can be anywhere from 5-20 mins. For me this place is a no go as I have had better falafel platters for sure. After moving to Miami, I was pretty disappointed to see that Halal trucks are not a staple there. So I made it a point to have Halal on this trip to New York. The chicken and lamb combo is only $6, and considering the amount of food it comes with, it is well-worth! If anything, the vendor is too generous! I always ask for extra white sauce, because it just makes the flavor that much better. The plate came with large fresh chunks of chicken and lamb, served over a bed of rice, shredded lettuce, and covered in white sauce. There were also pieces of cut up peta as well. We have had many a meal from this street car of wonderfulness, but this is my first review. I have no idea why it has taken me so long to sing their praises but I sing loud and they are so good that you will drive past other carts in other neighborhoods to get the food here. I once asked the guys what made their food so good, the response was classic and heartfelt...they cook with love. They love the food they cook and they love the customers. Sometimes you will pass by and the line will be 10+ deep. People will be double parked and walking from down the street to get the food here. You ask for extra anything and they give it to you with a smile. Where else can you get such an amazingly huge meal for $6.00 with a drink? Even sometimes with the long lines, no one complains about the wait...it's so good it is worth waiting a few minutes for your turn. The white sauce here is the best I have ever tasted. The freshness is never questioned, they cook with love and quite frankly I don't know how they keep up with the demand. These guys must be exhausted at the end of the day. Obviously there are hundreds of chicken and rice carts/trucks throughout the 5 boroughs, and I usually only eat from them after a night on the town but with Covid closing everything in life after 10pm I've had to take advantage of this opportunity to eat from the street. This truck actually taste good (even when you're sober). The chicken is seasoned and cooked very nicely. The rice also has a hint of spices that boost the flavor value up. You have to go for the sauces though regardless of how seasoned the food is because it's just not ether same without the white and hot sauce drenched on top. So everyone knows NYC is littered with halal food carts. Even out-of-towners fly in and ask "hey, can we grab 'chicken and rice?!?'". Seasoned eaters know some of the best carts can be found in Manhattan, with (arguably) the most famous being The Halal Guys on 6th Ave. & 53rd Street. Whether you're a fan of cheap eats, eats to go, or ethnic/halal food, such carts usually fit the bill. The only problem is that you don't always have the time or energy to trek into the city, especially when you live on the eastern edge of Queens. For such occasions, you can just venture over to the intersection of Hillside Ave. and Little Neck Pkwy. Here, you have multiple carts from which to choose. Within about two blocks, there are three separate carts. My current favorite is this HAMZA & MADINA cart which is parked on Hillside Avenue, just in front of CVS Pharmacy. I've also tried the Madina Halal Cart located by the Pizza hut across the street and also the Sahara Halal Cart by the New Al-Habib Halal Meat Market but I find that HAMZA & MADINA has a slight edge. Unlike the halal carts in the city which usually serve up their offerings in round aluminum trays, HAMZA & MADINA serves it up in rectangular styrofoam boxes. I mention that because some people like the extra insulation that the styro offers and which makes it easier to handle when you are not able to eat off a table. They also don't throw in pita bread as many carts in the city do (but that's no biggie at all to me). My standard choice is usually the combo over rice (chopped chicken & lamb over rice with a little salad on the side) topped with a generous - if not copious- amount of white sauce and a dash of hot sauce. Be warned that the hot sauce does pack ample heat so don't be a hero and ask for a ton extra lest you set your tongue on fire. I wish I could give you a more thorough review and include other items they offer but this is my go-to selection and by which I judge the various carts I've tried. I find that HAMZA & MADINA's cart offers slightly fresher tasting items and the server is more friendly than found at other local carts. I'm guessing if you're a regular at any of them that you may disagree with this but I'm talking about when you don't have a longstanding or frequent enough relationship with a particular cart. The combo over rice plus a drink comes out to $6.00 and that's pretty hard to beat for fresh, generously-portioned food that you can grab and go with a few minutes...unless there is a line of people waiting that is. I won't hesitate to try out the other carts again but when in doubt or I'm not feeling like experimenting, I'll come back to HAMZA & MADINA unless given a reason not to. read more

Been coming here when convenient for 3 years, but no more. The other day I picked up a plate around 3 am, lamb over rice, got home, opened it, it was half a plate. Today at 3am, i came back, i told him the last plate was the weakest I got from the cart in 3 years, ordered another one, and again, weakest plate, but this time he chopped it up small and drowned it in sauce, my bag is soaked with sauce now, too much to even hold into the box. Lost a customer tonight. Buyer beware, lamb over rice is now cut down 30% of the portion size. Maybe someone should tell this guy that you double the lamb portion when it's not a mix plate. We have been coming to this Halal cart for quite some time. When you arrive the smell alone will water your appetite. We usually get the chicken over rice with white sauce. It's awesome! I don't have any to compare it to but some of the other reviews and word of mouth says this one is the best. I have also had the lamb gyro, also very good and the prices are reasonable. This one is located outside CVS on the corner of Hillside and Little Neck Parkway. Give it a try you will be pleased, but go early, later the lines start to grow. I purchased a $4 lamb gyro. The lamb pieces are med-large chunks :-/ and it has a subtle regular degular pizza place gyro taste. An amazing little halal cart at the corner of Little neck. I've seen a lot of people writing "C&R", don't be confused because it's chicken over rice not chicken and rice. I have a history where I learned the difference between the two, when I was first introduced to chicken over rice. If you want to satisfy your C&R craving, then this is where you want to go. Order a little white tray of yummy goodness that would either put you to sleep or have you running for the restroom, depending on how well you handle hot sauce. I come here once every two weeks to grab chicken over rice for everyone in my office. My coworkers just can't wait for the week to get up to C&R day. Each person has their own taste and Hamza & Madina (can we go with H&M?) is able to satisfy each person's flavor preference. The rice here is always moist, complimenting the chicken or lamb without becoming too noticeable.The chicken is seasoned to perfection, sometimes you feel that sauce isn't even needed but you always get it because the sauce completes the dish. White sauce, hot sauce or BBQ sauce? Take your pick, make your dish pop some flavor into your mouth. Be a little careful with the hot sauce, it can always sneak up on you in more than one way. The lamb is amazingly soft and still fully cooked while staying moist. Put it all together and you get a delicious meal! The pricing is pretty decent, a regular tray of food is priced at $6. That $6 includes a drink, there's not a huge selection but enough to choose from to pick your favorite of: Coke, Diet Coke, Brisk, Ginger Ale, orange Sunkist and Poland Spring water. The amount of food they give you is a large serving but if you want double meat, it will cost you an extra $2. There seems to be a huge confusion between everyone, about which vendy cart this is. No, not all three halal carts on the corners of Little Neck and Hillside are the same. There's one by the subways, one by the Pizza Hut and one by CVS. H&M aka Hamza & Madina is the one by the CVS. If you go on their facebook, they list the two locations they have. One being by the CVS and another being the first halal cart on Long Island in Hicksville. Some of the reviews waxed lyrical to the degree that I was half-expecting the taste to rival Sammy's Halal in the heart of Jackson Heights. Unfortunately, it did not. Hamza-Madina doesn't really register on my "fave Halal Carts" toplist, which is populated by Sammy's, then Biryani Cart, then Rafiqi's, then King of Falafel & Shawarma in Astoria, and then Halal Guys and Adels and Tony Dragonas and so on. H & M would be outside the top ten, but that's not to say it's not good. In fact, it's cheap (under $7), filling, and tasty. And it's way out in the nether regions of Queens, near where Long Island proper begins. So for that reason, it's great to have a late night Halal Cart in this area. It's open extremely late too. In a neighborhood where you wouldn't expect a Halal Cart to be open so late. Excellent. However, because it just didn't taste as good as all my fave Carts, I'll keep it at a 4. Still great value, but not my favourite. Still tastes great and is filling, but you can do significantly better if you're seeking out the best Halal Cart stuff.
