Teehee, you know, like Chaka Khan?
Jo P.

Because I love a good word play, the name was enough to draw me here. We sampled a couple of their unique flavors and found the Hawaiian Mud Pie to be our favorite, but DD had to have her strawberry ice cream, so we went with a double scoop. This ended up going into a big cup, topped with a small sugar cone like a hat. I don't generally like Mud Pies but it seems like the Hawaiian one replaces marshmallows with Kona coffee or more chocolate, either one trumping hardened marshmallows IMO. Another surprise was the strawberry ice cream, which was more like strawberry ice with minimal cream and chunks of frozen strawberries. It wasn't bad, just different. But I'm from TX and it's hard to beat Blue Bell basics, such as strawberry.

Great flavors and delicious ice cream! Patio seating with a nice ocean view. I was surprised about the variety of flavors they have, they have many tropical flavors and fresh fruits.

Shaka cones is located on the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort. It is right in between the lagoon and the dolphin quest area. This is the only dessert place on the resort other than the typical desserts that you find at the restaurants. The ice cream is kind of pricey. We got 4 waffle cones with a single scoop paying about $30. However, it is a resort and everything is always overpriced. The ice cream itself is delicious and large portions. It is Dave's ice cream for those of you who are local to Hawaii. Dave's ice cream has unique and creamy flavors. A couple of them that we tried was ube and kulolo. Definitely flavors that you can only find in Hawaii. The kids got strawberry and mint chocolate chip. They have many other flavors to choose from. They also have sugar cones that you can get at the base price. However, if you add on a waffle cone you need to pay extra. The ice cream melts very quickly, so it is something that should be eaten right there. There are a bunch of tables right outside to sit on. It overlooks the lagoon, which is nice. The line itself can get very long since there is only one person working and one ordering window. Great place if you want to get a sweet treat and are staying on the resort.

Very good mango sorbet. The small size is actually pretty big and that was a surprise. I got mine in a cup. Menu is attached. Minus 1 star because I had to commit to a flavor without testing.

Pass by after dinner I ordered vanilla ice cream with chocolate waffle big size and taste very soft! Not bad

Ice cream shack smack dab in the middle of the Hilton Waikoloa resort. When you're lounging by the water and people watching, what better than to have a nice cold ice cream. Careful however when this place is crowded, it takes a while for them to get stuff out as they move in a singular linear fashion.

2 scoops ube

It's pricey, but super yummy! I ordered the two scoops of ube in a cup ($9) and I definitely got more than I expected. Other flavors we love are the mudpie, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, chocolate, and Kona coffee! This place is always busy so the price doesn't deter people and it's definitely a great treat during a long day of swimming.

The Hawaiian mud pie is really good. I love it. Yeah the prices are high but so is the hotel we're staying at.

Came here for an early dinner, and ordered the $24 11-inch Hawaiian Pizza, and the $16 chicken wrap. The Hawaiian pizza came with provolone cheese with toppings of bacon bits, ham and pineapple. The crust was too doughy, and bland. Not enough crispness, and almost no tomato sauce. They also shortchanged you on the meat and pineapple. Tropics Ale closest restaurant outside the village offers a $14 12-inch pepperoni pizza during happy hour 2-5pm. The chicken wrap was outstanding, with a tasteful blend of diced chicken, mayo, celery, and cranberry to give it some sweetness. So good that i ordered it again on a return visit. Second visit ordered the $18 18 oz mandarin chicken salad, and $18 18 oz cobb salad. Both came with salad dressing packets, and decent amount of salad additions to the cut up iceberg lettuce. You can get the same 18 oz salads at Island Gourmet in Queens Market for $12. 38 minute walk to Island Gourmet. The salads here do come in compostable packaging. Thinking of eating the salad before your plane takes off at the Kona airport? Laniakea restaurant at the airport sells 18 oz salads for $16. Cheapest food in Hilton Waikoloa Village is like saying cheapest food at Disneyland. They have a captive audience and price things accordingly. You know things are overpriced when they are more expensive than the airport restaurant.

They have everything here, including hot foods, deli sandwiches, musubis, baked goods, malasadas, fresh sashimi and poke bowls. They also have supermarket items like fresh fruit and vegetables, drinks, dairy, chips, bagels, etc. There's also a wine and beer section, t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, and other knick knacks. And everything is good to very good quality. The food is really good, and there's some outdoor seating right outside the market. We came here for breakfast and dinner, and it's nice because everyone can choose what they like since there's such a variety of items. Some of the items we've tried: + Kalua pork breakfast burrito (5/5) - meat was smokey and juicy. Burrito grilled nicely. + Spam Musubi (4/5) - very good; rice could have used a little more flavor but I'm being picky. + Poke bowl (4/5) - the poke itself was very good and fresh. Toppings were limited. + Cut fruits (4/5) - watermelon was especially good; the melons were ok. + BLT Breakfast sandwich (5/5) - was very good and came with fried potatoes. + Banana bread (3/5) - good but overall taste was sweet and not enough banana flavor. This was our go-to market during our trip. We loved coming here and the staff is so friendly.

We got lucky and were seated on the beach, just ten yards or so from the water's edge. The place is very nicely lit with torches and table lamps, great for photos and a celebratory feel. Our server, whose name I didn't catch, was friendly and helpful but not super present. He checked on our table a little infrequently. Granted, it was pretty busy. The food was mid. The loaded tots were visually appealing but average tasting. I got the LLBC burger and it was tough, and some of the toppings tasted like refrigerator. The sweet potato fries were okay but lukewarm when they came out, like they had been sitting. The chocolate banana cake also kind of tasted like fridge, but did have a good banana flavor. We would probably go back just for the great ambience, but I do wish the food tasted a little fresher.

We made our reservation several weeks in advance...and I would recommend doing that online and in advance since the place was packed! We arrived in formal attire: I was in my wedding dress and my husband in a suit. Everyone was super friendly to us and really made us feel so special. Our table was right in front to the live musician, so that was great. I had the coconut shrimp, whereas my husband ordered a veggie burger. We did some garlic bread as an appetizer, and the appetizer waa great! My husband was super happy with his burger, and he spent the next week trying a burger at every restaurant to top it. To my knowledge, I think there was only one place that topped it. My shrimp was soo good! I love coconut shrimp and am somewhat of a tough critic. Lava Lava nailed it. However, the coconut rice wasn't amazing. It was a rather disappointing side to such a great main. We shared a slice of coffee cheesecake as a gift from the server, which we were extremely grateful for. Honestly, our server was amazing the entire time, and the cheesecake was spot-on and a perfectly sweet end to our meal. We had a great time here, and we would recommend the restaurant to anyone!

The natural ocean water lagoon is a nice change from a pool, but don't expect it to be teeming with sea life. Occasional fish and turtle will wander in. Dolphin experience is both cool and sad. Dolphins are well taken care of, but kept in very small pens and forced to interact with tourists. If you're at all animal activist-minded, not the property for you. The bad: The customer service is mediocre at best. Which is jarring coming from previous trips to Maui and Kauai, where service is paramount. Left standing at front desk in Hilton Diamond line for 20mins while guests walked up to main line and were helped. Property is aged. Rooms are fine. If you're a fitness person and you plan to use the gym, this is where the hotel website blatantly lies. The fitness center is two old, windowless room with horrible, dingy prison lighting. The equipment is broken, heavily rusted and at least 25-30 years old. Huge disappointment. (See pictures) The indifferent: There's no natural beach. Not uncommon for Kona. But sad that there's no access to tire-pools or ocean unless you swim/trek out beyond the lagoon. The Monorail is PAINFULLY slow. Be ready for a lot of walking (property is huge), the wait for the monorail (that doesn't travel in a loop, so if you want to go one way but the monorail is travelling the other, you have to wait for it to come back) because the wait-time is even more painful. Will update with more details as they come. Final Day / Checkout Thoughts: - Disappointing service at the breakfast buffet. Yesterday, we were sent away because we walked in 5mins after final seating (but made to stand and wait at host desk for 10mins). Ignored, so I asked a server, who refused to seat is. Okay, rules are rules...but then there's nowhere else available until 11am. Today, we show up at 9:45am and they tell us it's a 15-20min wait (and we counted 15 empty tables). They either need to hire more staff to accommodate the guests (as it's the only place to eat), or offer something else as an option. The buffet wasn't entirely bad experience. Sara, at the omelette bar, is everything bright and friendly you'd expect from aloha spirit and hotel team member. If she makes a pretty amazing omelette with a smile. As we walked out of the dungeon gym today, we stumbled on to another small workout room upstairs. All windows, couple pieces of equipment, kettlebells. Shame on the desk attendants for not saying anything (we just followed the signs). Disappointing.
