Ate here one night there was 3 of us. The employees would walk right past you and since this was our first time we didn't know if we were to sit or wait. Once seated our waitress took our order. All 3 of us got the fried chicken. They brought out hamburger buns that were toasted nothing on them I guess for our bread with our meal. The chicken was supposed to be a 1/2 a chicken but when it came out the chicken must have died of starvation, the pieces were small ,dry and almost tasted like the frozen chicken. You buy in the store that comes boxed, just not what we have had other places. None of us enjoyed it, they were busy so we just wanted to eat and leave. This is a local place, and no decor very plain inside. Been here many times but not since I've been a Yelper! About time, huh? It's a nice intimate " hole in the wall" that fits about 50 people. Kinda like an old fashioned diner you see on old movies.The burgers here are fantastic and a HUGE bang for the buck! Fresh hand patty and a great grill taste. Hmmmm, man, now I want one. But we're here for breakfast. Getting a veggie omelette , 2 eggs, onion, tomato, and cheese$4.30(wife) with side of bacon$$1.30 and I'm getting the Western Omelette 3 eggs, onion.tomato, ham, bacon , sausage and cheese $6.15. Both come with grits or gravy , toast or biscuit. Hash browns + .25 . As busy as it was, only took 15 minutes for our food. Me and a friend were hungry and looking for someplace to eat ...noticed up ahead the SIGN FOR SHAKE SHOP...there were a few cars in the parking lot...so we drove in...got inside and I immediately thought that this place had been here since the TITANIC...just kind of out dated...so we waited to be seated and the 2 waitresses were in the corner talking...so we're waiting and waiting for about 5 minutes and I finally yelled out EXCUSE ME...WE WOULD LIKE TO EAT LUNCH BEFORE DINNER...over 1 came...sat us on these wooden benches...my buddy said right away...it's o.k...so I ordered the fried chicken and my buddy ordered the burger...rare...so out it all comes...the fried chicken tasted like banquets frozen fried chicken...the green beans were mushy and cold...mashed potatoes tasted instant...now go over to my buddy's Hamburg...rare...he took it out and bounced it on the table...called the waitress over and I will not mention her name just because we all have an OFF DAY...I told her I didn't like what she served she said I only brought it out...well honey you should have looked at it before you served it...and of course here comes the attitude...WELL WHAT ELSE CAN I GET YOU... Very average tier place, in every way imaginable. Not a bad thing per say but service is average, food is average and the atmosphere of the place is average. My biggest complaint would be the food being pretty bland, at least the last 3 times I've been. The perfect little "greasy spoon" as I like to call it. They had an amazing peanut butter chocolate shake with a dream-worthy double cheese burger. The burger was huge and cheesy and delicious. The prices were super cheap and I was pretty surprised. The servers were nice, the wait wasn't very long at all. They have the old wooden bench style seating. As for covid procedures, none of the employees were wearing masks, the benches were pushed apart, but I don't believe the tables were 6 feet apart. You can tell the burgers are made fresh and not overcomplicated. Probably just a bit of salt and pepper and made by hand. Crinkle french fries OK; might be frozen, nothings special. I've eaten at numerous small town diners over my 45 years and this place is just average. Hamburgers are not cooked to order (looked similar to bubba burgers) and the buns were not grilled giving them that buttery crispy edges (which is a common practice at most hole in the wall places). Sodas are coke products and you only get one refill ($1.90) and you are charged for water too ($.30). The fries are the crinkle style and there was nothing special about them (you can buy these at Walmart in the frozen section). We ordered a shake because you are obligated to do this when you eat at a shake shop! Shakes are $3.10 and are smaller than the soda cups. See pic. My son got the chocolate shake and liked it, I tasted it and did not like the flavor at all... They were busy and full of people, and their prices are comparable to Burger King. Stopped in on a road trip and they made us a shake one of the best ones I've ever had. My wife want a banana one, they didn't have it on the menu but we had a banana in the truck and they put it in the vanilla shake and made her one banana shake. It's one of the quintessential hometown eating spots in Rutherford County, along with places like Smith's Cut Rate and Davis Donuts down the road in Forest City. The burgers are fresh, handpattied and a great size. Not small and not way too thick. (YES, that's possible. A bland and thick slab of meat is NOT good.) You can also get homestyle lunch and dinner plates. Service was great for us on our visits. We went back again for a breakfast. I ate a delicious livermush and egg biscuit, and a side of buttery grits. My wife had a biscuit and gravy, which was different gravy than we are used to. It was a darker gravy, not the white cream gravy we know. It was okay but not a favorite. She also had a side of salty country ham. Yum! Plenty of parking here. Cards accepted, but you get a small discount if you use cash. Two of us ate for about $15 including a tip, both at breakfast and lunch. read more

Food is always great! Love going here. Went to a similar place out of town last night and was wishing I had stayed in town and came to shake shop. The food never disappoints! Service is good too. All the employees are nice. I have had a shake before and it was good but the name shake shop comes from the railroad that used to run behind the building and the train would "shake" the building. Also the oldest restaurant in Rutherford county still serving today. I have been eating here almost 32 years and hope I can that many more! Went inside to grab food. We were wearing our masks as we do everywhere we go and only take them off to eat. Not a single employee was wearing a mask, not even in the kitchen. Been here a few times and the only thing worth eating is the hamburger steak. And half the time its hit or miss.
