We are new to the area and having to be driving by at dinner time. Husband was getting hungry and wanted to eat right away. This place had so many great reviews and now I see why. I just had a simple cheeseburger with a side of their broccoli salad. The burger was huge and juicy. The broccoli salad was exactly how I like it, sweet and with raisins. My husband had what they call a hamburger steak, which was pretty much just a huge spread out hamburger. He loved it also. I love the mom and Pop feel of it. I will be back! read more

Very disappointed their menu is so different than what it used to be. We went there specifically for the corned beef hash they used to serve, it was delicious! The seating has expanded and the door entrance is different. However, our biggest complaint is the weird track lighting in the new seating area and how the lights shine right in your face. It's blinding and annoying. The waitress was friendly. 2 stars for how the menu has changed and the dumb new lighting. We left after drinking our coffees. Won't be back. read more

Updated 1/7/2023. They have changed their hours (again) . Now open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Prices went way up. 2 egg breakfast with meat a side and bread is $10.50 compared to Smiths $6.99 including coffee. Tip... call before you go as it's a crap shoot if they're open as their posted hours. Just normal breakfast. Home fries are frozen. Had to ask for butter and jelly and a spoon to stir coffee. read more

This is the 2nd time eating here. Its a shame they close so early. They have really good food. My husband decided on breakfast and I wanted lunch. He said someone knew how to cook the eggs they were done perfect. The home fries were very good as well. My hamburger was huge! I wanted rare, it was done perfect It was really good! No pre frozen hamburger it was hand made and a great size if your hungry!! The waiter was good as well. We will go again sometime we are out early enough not to miss before they close. This is my GO TO PLACE...when I want the best burger in NORTH CAROLINA...this IS the place and I usually get a double...and listen to this each patty is two thirds of a pound...so that's one and a half pounds of pure melt in your mouth burger...cooked the way YOU WANT IT...I always ask for MIKE OR LINDA THE OWNERS to cook it...they get it right every time DELICIOUS. And now the talk of the town is CAROLINA CAFE IS NOW DOING STEAKS...get this a 18oz. RIBEYE for around $16...is that crazy...I haven't had one yet but my next stop is that BAD BOY...and I also heard he's open later on Friday and Saturday nights...because the line is so long to get in... but WELL WORTH THE WAIT.SO 5 STARS UP ON CAROLINA CAFE...it's a dining experience. read more

My boyfriend (male,20) and I (female,18) are an interracial couple, we were wanting to come eat breakfast this morning we came in and sat down, the owner was staring at us for most of that. The waitress gets us our drinks takes our order and comes back a few minutes later and tells us that the boss said we need to pay before we get our food at a very escalated tone to where multiple people start looking at us. not to mention everyone else who was there did not have to pay before they received their food. Appalled and will never step foot in this establishment! Could not believe how Mike I guess the owner talked to his employee whether he thought it could be overheard or not. Once you see someone's true self the food or ambiance or price or anything else is inconsequential. We went back and ordered 2 ribeye steaks again. These were delicious! Very tasty and tender and cooked just like we asked. The salads were very fresh, the sides were very good (I had the corn nuggets...dangerous!) The waitress was very nice and all in all it was a very good dinner, which was great as we were celebrating a special day for us. We will definitely return. Carolina Cafe offers a hometown menu for locals and tourists. They offer a large selection of items on the menu. The salads are okay. The food quality could be a little better as orders seem to be slapped together. Placing a carryout order can be frustrating as the waitstaff is disorganized. read more

I was greeted right away, given the total and paid a very very reasonable bill. the omelettes were exceptional!!! when I got home the food was still hot, home fries still crispy and the toast still crunchy. Worst service ever in a restaurant. Crowded when we arrived; they gave us a buzzer. After waiting 30 minutes and having multiple parties that arrived later seated before us we asked. Rudely they pointed to a table and then ignored us as they sat two other groups that arrived even later. They started serving those two groups before even giving us menus. We will never return. Today, after reading some reviews, we decided to eat at Carolina Cafe. It was noon on a Friday and there were a good many cars outside. Inside was really busy. Lots of locals, friendly staff and quick service. Lots of takeout..people coming and going all very happy. The special of crispy chicken with black pepper gravy, sweet potato casserole and pear salad were delicious! Lots of homemade love! It's small and clean with a 99% score. We'll be back! read more

My husband and I decided to have a steak for dinner on a Friday night. So we went to a local restaurant to try it out. We both ordered a ribeye steak, and we are sure glad we did. Not only were they reasonably priced, but they tasted delicious. They were tender and very large. We both had mashed potatoes and gravy. Today was my first time there. I ordered the c chicken Philly cheesesteak and it was great. My daughter ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. She was looking for chicken strips but they didn't have that. She said it was ok. The waiter was quiet but very nice and polite. Owner and cashier was very friendly. The place looked clean. Used to be a regular here before the 2017 holiday season. Service and food were great then. Everything has changed since my last visit. This place used to always be packed full with patrons, today, February 6, 2018 it was almost empty. The menu has changed. They no longer serve French Toast or pancakes after 10:30, breakfast is the only thing I came here for. The menu has changed also. Our server came dragging her feet and chewing gum like a calf chewing its cud... not very appealing. Left with only a coffee, won't be back. read more
