We ordered the nachos and have to say the presentation was impressive. Haven Bistro definitely took some pride in the food prep. And of course being in the Philippines, the nachos had diced mango. :) The calamari was pretty good and while Kare Kare is not my particular favorite, again, they out did themselves on the presentation. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and again ...gotta love the Filipino twist with diced mango. The portions were bigger than expected so pleasantly surprised. What I also really liked was the drink options. Most places have the traditional banana, pineapple, mango or coconut flavored shakes but Haven Bistro adds a twist with either cilantro, mint or basil. The pineapple basil shake and mango cilantro shake were pretty good. Of course they were fresh with real ingredients. The service was very good. Our order took a little time but no worries when you know it's being freshly made and being in the cool restaurant was a nice break from the heat and humidity outside. A noticeable difference was when they served us water, it actually had ice - a significant difference from just about anywhere else. The service was very polite & courteous - but have to say that is the normal in the Philippines. Also, the restaurant was exceptionally clean...sometimes hard to maintain with the sand from the beach.

The tacos were to die for. The location was perfect, only because my room was right above the restaurant. You get alot for what you pay for. Since my room was upstairs and the restaurant was part of the Club Haven (Boracay Haven Resort/Suits), I got free breakfast delivered every morning. I ordered a cheese french toast one morning and it was, again, to die for. Their pancakes were delicious too. The employees were great. Very helpful and always with a smile. At night, the place turns into a buffet. Never got to try it, but the food they were cooking looked equally delicious. The private beachfront right in front of the store is cleared and chairs and tables are set up. Live music is playing and they also provide hookah.

Mom had to stop by for the latter, one of her favourite Filipino sweets traditionally sold during the Christmas season. I, myself, was a little surprised that such Filipino cakes were being offered at an Italian restaurant, but, hey, we were in a tourist area of the Philippines, so why not, I figured. After an all-day land tour of Boracay, we had some time to kill before meeting up with a friend for dinner. This is when I accompanied Mom to Don Vito Ristorante Italiano to pick up her coveted Puto Bumbong. We arrived shortly before 7:15 PM on Friday, November 15, 2024, and were seated in the front patio while we awaited the to-go order. No tables were occupied in the outdoor dining area, but I could see that there were a few customers dining inside. Overall, the venue appeared to be clean and well kept. The waitress who took our order knew that we were not staying to dine in. Still, she was kind enough to serve to us a complimentary plate of toasted bread and dipping sauce to nibble on while we awaited our one-item order. I believe that the ramekin of dipping sauce was some kind of balsamic vinegar-based dressing. I tried one bite of the bread with sauce. I was not a fan. After about a ten-minute wait, the server brought to us the order of Puto Bumbong (Php 150, 2 pcs), already boxed up for take-out. Immediately, Mom was dismayed by the shredded cheese that topped the cylindrical rice cakes. She expected them to be slathered with butter and sprinkled with sugar and coconut, just as the sign described. She was turned off by the condensed milk and grated cheese which she tried to scrape off. It was too late, though. The cakes were ruined and so was Mom's experience. The kind waitress offered to have them remade, but Mom declined because she thought that we were pressed for time. Not sure why they would add unexpected ingredients to a dish and neglect to offer the option of adding them instead of assuming that they would be agreeable to customers. Hope that the restaurant learned a lesson here. Needless to say, Don Vito's disappointed Mom big time.

Obviously one doesn't expect high quality hand made Italian pasta in a random island in the Philippines, but this place is amazing and has exact that. It seems to be a Genoan expat and his partner / entire family runs the place and they are a sweet and genuine (I think Star is the wife). True off the beaten path family shop. Absolutely awesome. I'll definitely come back here the next time I'm in Boracay! We ordered a number of items based off her recommendation. I would advise all folks do the same- don't come here with a specific dish in mind, just come with an open mind and a stomach for awesome pasta!!!
