There were no do-overs available for my engagement photos on October 19th, 2017. I deployed to Afghanistan the next day. I just talked to my future father in law the day before. So if there ever was a time when a person needed a photographer that was on time, prepared and ready, it would be then...and Shala knocked it out of the park. I wanted to get engaged in front of the Capitol, as my future wife worked for a Senator. Who knew this required a pass? Shala did. She took care of all the little details before my proposal and was extremely responsive to questions during the time leading up to the big moment. When I arrived to meet Shala, she was already set up and ready. And when I got down on one knee, she got the perfect shot. Afterwards, she sent photos promptly. I couldn't have asked for a better photographer, and I have a reminder of how great a photographer Shala Graham is at my desk everyday. I know Shala to be an amazing entrepreneur. Prior to my shoot, I saw some of her incredible photography on Facebook, so I expected great shots. Although I must admit I was a little apprehensive/intimidated because does anyone really want to be in front of the camera solo? I am NOT a great model, I'm terrible at being "natural" versus "posed", and I've gained a significant amount of weight. Shala took great care to explain different poses and make me feel comfortable in front of the camera. She made sure every detail was taken care of, from perfect backdrops, to lighting, to making sure I looked my best. I didn't feel rushed at all, even though we made it through four outfit changes in one hour. She made the shoot fun, keeping me laughing the entire time, and the studio was well-appointed for capturing different looks. At the end of the shoot, I felt great. I felt much more positive about myself and the photography experience. I shared with my husband on the way home in the car that I thought Shala had captured some really great shots. Shala made the entire experience seamless. I was so surprised that the images were ready the next day..and a sneak peek came the same day! That's almost unheard of. As a perfectionist, and my own worst critic, I was so surprised by how much I loved the images! And not just one or two of them, but ALL of them! The attention to detail that Shala took during the shoot was apparent in the images. There was such a wide variety of poses, backdrops, and different looks. Shala did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of who I am, as well as my "brand." From the candid, to the casual, to the sophisticated, I was provided with multiple options for every possible medium. This one session will give myself and my nonprofit organization, Rukundo International, material for every possible need. I decided it was finally time to get a real headshot to replace the selfies I'd been using for various profiles and conferences. Besides them not looking pro-fresh, I had changed my look pretty dramatically in the previous year and wanted a great picture to capture the "real me." Both my husband and I went in to get headshots done by Shala, and we were both really happy with the results. Photos are not favorite thing. I'm the one taking pictures of others. Things happen in life and suddenly I needed a quality photo(no easy task) Shala was accommodating , supportive ,warm and welcoming . I don't love using Yelp, yet I'll leave a review for Shala! She photographed my father's military burial with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Although that's not her usual type of work, she took on the job and exuded patience and kindness throughout the process. She willingly squished into our car--from which she captured amazing images--for a short drive to a certain point and then jumped out where the honor guard had assembled. She proceeded to take photos of everything I wanted. At times, it seemed she had ESP. I gave her what info I had on the order of the procession and service, yet I just did not have much info. Despite that, she did a wonderful job and offered a comforting and warm presence on top of the photography. I'd love to work with her again one day. read more

Highly recommended! As I was starting my own marketing consulting business in 2019, I knew I'd need some professional headshots to go onto my website.
