It's a shame to have to leave this practice after being a patient for 10+ years but my family is at its last straw with the new ownership/management. It's changed for the worse since Dr. Forney was around. The new lead dentist, while nice seems to be pushing a capitalist treatment plan for all patients whether they need the service or not. The old hygienists were very patient and kind about my family's oral health, now they are using scare tactics to convince us to use all these treatments when they're not necessarily needed. I used to come here because the hygienists were my oral coaches and we would create plans together. Now it just seems they want to push all these extra treatments to get more money from each family member each time. I used to pay nothing/very little and now I'm paying for all these extra costs here and there that they're coding in their system. I used to be able to go for a cleaning every 6 months and my appointment wouldn't be longer than 30ish minutes. Now they're 5-10 minutes behind and go well over an hour to clean and they're not doing anything different. Seems like there are constantly new office people, they can't keep or hire another hygienist to save their life and all the original hygienists who I loved jumped ship (probably for the same reasons above). I'm looking forward to finding a new dentist to align with my and my family's values and would never recommend this place to any friends or family. read more

I had been a patient for well over 20 years. Dr. Forney was wonderful. I recommended Shalimar to everyone. Since his retirement things have increasingly gone downhill. The culmination was my daughter having pain and when we arrived for the appointment it was for a routine cleaning. the hygenist was not kind at all, snapping at us. When we expressed concern over her pain, the dentist whom we have never met, pulled up x-rays from last year and said it was most likely her wisdom teeth. He also said that there was no need to update her x-rays. Well, we went and got a second opinion and she needed a root canal! So disappointing! read more

Dr Shakally was extremely helpful with a fractured/ infected molar. Took care of me same day so I didn't have the excruciating discomfort over the weekend. Healed up without any infection , now going back for my cleaning. Great gem since I'm new to AZ and didn't want to be charged for unnecessary procedures. read more

I too was a 20 year plus patient of Dr. Forney and I stayed as a patient for a while after Dr. Forney left and was no longer practicing. The reason I left was the Office Manager that replaced Dr. Forney's long time OM was not professional. My wife is also a long time patient and stayed with the practice during and after the transition. After several years of going to another practice my wife let me know the OM from Shalimar Dentistry left and my wife talked me into going back to Shalimar Dentistry. After going back and several periodic cleanings. The most recent and last cleaning I had a loose crown that needed to be looked at. After the cleaning Dr. Jenkins did a quick consultation on any issues from the hygienist and a cursory exam and I told him about the loose crown. After he looked at my history and seeing they installed the crown he decided to remove it. Since he did not consult with me on the what ifs; what if the crown can't easily be reinstalled, what if it breaks..., when he pulled it off he let out a gasp, at that point I knew something went wrong. It turned out that the crown could not be reinstalled and a temporary had to be made. Dr. Jenkins response to me was that it was over 5 years old and the insurance would cover it. And you would have to have it replaced any way. Insurance only covered about $450 of the $1720. After I came back and after an initial periodic cleaning I did speak with Dr. Brower, he actually seemed to be compassionate and hear what I was saying about my dental visit and history. Dr. Jenkins seemed to be nonchalant, wasn't concerned and that there was nothing to worry about with this crown as the insurance would take care of it. Dr. Jenkins will get the full amount in the end and not concerned with who pays what amounts. No compassion or concern as a professional. It's like taking your car in for service and being told it would be covered but when you go to pay the service is only partially covered. I would expect Dr. Jenkins to explain what he was going to do before he did it and the pros and cons. I did not get that and will not be going back. I won't get into the issue with the dental assistant on her first day that did not know what she was doing and the experienced assistant was trying to talk her through what to do. read more

PLS!!!! Don't waste your time and money. I showed up at the appointment time for a regular cleaning (had a previous visit 2 years ago in a different place and I had all teeth x-rays from them), But they decided to take a new x-rays for me as a new patient. At the website adult special is: 150$ for new exam, full set of x-rays, oral cancer exam and routine cleaning - I've been CHARGED for 6 x-rays and Oral exam without any cleaning work 206$ ( with my benefit dental plan). Front desk lady couldn't find me an appointment time for the next 3 months, she said: " The nearest available day is May 29th " When I was on a phone with customer care, I've been promised that office will be able to do my cleaning in the same day for 95$. So at the end I spent 206$ for 6 x-rays and a nice bag with floss and dental brush and paste. THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING TO THIS PLACE read more

This practice has horrible customer service. SHERRI, their office manager is extremely difficult to deal with. I went in ONE TIME and ONE TIME only because she is cold, not friendly, and does not run that business well. The dental staff was good but unfortunately, the face of their business is not doing them any favors. I received a bill and ignored it because I knew it was incorrect. I then received a final notice and called in. I spoke with Sherri, she assured me this would be taken care of and I would not receive any further bills. I should've asked for something in writing because a month and a half later I get a debt collections notice for this idiot's negligence. I call in, speak with the lovely Sherri. She tells me "oh, I fixed that back on April xx when you called in, that's not a collections letter" I read her exactly what it says and the date of the notice. She doesnt like that I pointed out her mistake and cuts me off. I ask to speak with the owner and she says he doesnt deal with these issues and basically hung up on me. We were hit with a surprise bill. The technician reviewed the treatment plan with me on my first visit. Turns out I needed a crown. The treatment plan showed the insurance paying a very large portion of the crown leaving me with a copay of only $35. This came as a pleasant surprise. Thinking it too good to be true, I specifically commented on this very favorable copay and questioned its validity. The technician also found the reimbursement generous, but she stood by the estimate she had worked up. At the conclusion of the treatment plan, I paid the $35 they requested. I gave it no more thought until I received a bill from Shalimar in the mail. Turns out the insurance was not paying what was almost the full cost of the crown. Instead, the claim covered about 50% of the crown. I owe the remainder. The practice was NOT helpful in assisting with a resolution. She offered a 3-payment plan, adding with something of a sneer, that she was being generous since she normally only allows for 2-payment plans. As far as I am concerned, this transaction with Shalimar will be my last. I was not happy with the dentistry (the crown does not even fit well!) but the cold, uncaring, even rude handling by the person in charge of billing is entirely unacceptable. Long timers know that this place is not what it used to be when Dr. Forney was around. Most recent reviews tell it all. Just too many red flags to mention. The Docs here need to learn to value their patients time and at least have the courtesy to know why your patient is visiting today (from just a week ago) or at least be aware of why is he here today. This place has become like an ER. Time to find a new dentist after 20 years. It's never too late! Update: Found out from new dentist that the Doc at this place left a broken file (instrument) during root canal. Doc knew this and played all along. I really like my hygienist Maria and I liked their newest dentist, Dr. Brower. I've been going here for years, but unfortunately, the office manager, Sherry, seems to be an anti-masker. If that's cool with you, great, but I am am immunosuppressed, and I am not cool with it. In early June, she was not wearing a mask at all. I just stayed away from her and didn't say anything. Now, as COVID-19 spikes again, I was scheduled for my six month cleaning. Sure enough, I walk in and Sherry is wearing a mask around her chin. I stand by the door, waiting for her to pull it up, which she eventually does - below her nose. I told her to cancel my appointment and left. I guess I will be looking for a new dentist. When there are doctors and nurses working overtime to care for people sick with COVID and grocery store workers are forced to wear masks all day for minimum wage, I cannot support a business (a MEDICAL facility even!) where every one doesn't treat the pandemic with basic caution. I want to start with the positive: The hygienists!!!! I'm bad with names, so I can't recall, but they were all SO fabulous. I had to get a super deep cleaning where half of my mouth had to get numbed up and I couldn't feel a single prick of a needle. Now the bad: after my cobra dental insurance hadn't come through yet, I wanted to cancel my appointment, but was pressured into still keeping it or receiving a fee for cancelation. While Karen is great at laying out costs, personally, she is too pushy and thinks it's all funny. So I kept it and figured I'd just have them run my insurance when it came through. 10 (!!!!!) calls later and I think they finally submitted it correctly. From simply not doing it to the whole admin staff changing to telling me my insurance had still not been activated but my insurance never having received a claim... yeah... Then I just learned that Dr. Cordner misdiagnosed a troublesome molar that I went to see him for. A prior dentist had suspicions of it needing a root canal. Pain subsided and was back when I came to see Dr. Cordner. He did some testing and said that it was just an overly exposed root... yet was surprised at how sensitive I was to everything. I should have pressed more and advocated for myself... but of course was excited when he said I didn't need a root canal after all. Moral of the story: make sure you don't go here unless your insurance situation is 100% in order and advocate for yourself if you're in pain... Now, I am on worse insurance and get to pay this out of pocket when I could have gotten it done last summer when I went to see them for this plus am in significantly more pain... read more

My family has been going to Shalimar Dentists for years and been so pleased! In the middle of a pandemic, why is it ok in a medical office for the receptionist NOT To Wear A MASK? When I asked if masks need to be worn here, the receptionist on the right, blonde hair--(sorry I don't know her name)--said, "I haven't pulled mine up yet." (It was below her chin) She said, "I have to take your temperature," which was fine--but DIDN'T on the next patient who came in as I was sitting in the waiting room!! I've been to the dentist lots of times, so I know the drill.. but Shalimar dentistry is not your average dentist! They have a wonderful, clean facility, with helpful staff, and of course knowledgeable doctors. I recently had an amazing experience with Dr. Cordner! I have had a glued in permanent retainer for about 5 years that continually would get loose or fall out. Within 5 years I had it glued back down 4 times by 3 different dentists. It broke off recently for the 5th time while I was eating an apple, luckily Shalimar Dentistry was able to squeeze me in for a next day appointment to get it taken care of before I left for vacation. When I went in to see Dr. Cordner for my appointment I explained the recurring problem I had with my retainer. He was the first dentist to ever reccomend removing my perminant retainer and replacing it with a retainer that I would wear at night!! I am so grateful for his expertise, because I no longer have to floss under my retainer, it won't come unglued all the time, and I will still be able to keep my straight teeth! Within a week my new retainer was made, and I was able to pick it up from a friendly assistant named Lorena. I am so happy with the experiene Dr. Cordner and his office staff provided me with. I will be coming back to Shalimar, and I reccomend anyone looking for fantastic dentistry to do the same! read more

I went to this dentist and they did not call my insurance to confirm my dental benefits. I paid almost 1700 for dental work and now am being billed for another 1000, that my insurance does not cover. On top of it, the crown they did is bad. When I bite down and floss a stinky smell comes from the crown. Never in my life have I had such a nightmare of a dental experience. I am now being hounding for the additional money....that I cannot afford to pay and on top of it I have a crown that probably will need to be redone. I am disappointed with this office. Worst experience ever! These people took advantage of me. I went in for routine cavities, and left with a 2k bill. During the filling of the cavities they came in and told me one of them will need a cap. I told them before the work was started that I hadnt been to the dentist in atleast 7 years, and they never said a word. The billing lady told me that I couldnt leave my tooth like that and it needed a cap. They billed me prior to doing the work, which I found out from the ins. company is not the way they should be operating. They also wanted payment in full or split in two payments! On top of all that my retainer wouldnt fit because of the new cap. So because of how unhappy I was, about getting slammed with a 2k dollar bill the doctor told me he would give it to me for free. Cool... Well when I went in yesterday it didnt fit. So instead of making them waste money to make another one i just said forget it. The billing lady tried to make me pay for it!!!! A word of advise, do not let Dr Kyle Cordner come near you, let alone perform any procedure on you. He is inexperience and very unprofessional. Took him over 6 hrs for wisdom tooth extraction, panicked during procedure and kept saying " I can't do it, I can't do it". Left the procedure half done with root still in place. Had to drive myself to his boss in Mesa while still sedated to finish the procedure. Found out from third dentist and X-Rays that roots still intact and not removed at all. Now I have to go through the whole thing again to correct his mistakes. Filed grievance with Arizona Dental Association. He should not be allowed to practice. read more

I was referred to Shalimar by a co-worker who I cannot thank enough. I arrived 30 minutes early in fear of new patient paperwork being extensive but that was not the case. Since they were not too busy I was seen early! The care I received from both the assistant and the Dentist were phenomenal. They both spent a well appreciated amount of time accessing my current dental status, addressing my concerns, and constructing a care plan. Upon checkout, Karen went over estimates and future appointments with me leaving no question unanswered. Nice office staff, easy to make an appointment, yet be aware of unexpected dental cost. My insurance was given prior to my services and I was told the amount I had to pay out of pocket for regular dental cleaning. A month in a half later, I'm sent a bill for a cleaning. I check my coverage and I was told the billing was submitted incorrectly hence why the service was denied. Dental cleaning is basic and it's a covered cost. I contacted the billing office and explained my situation. I was told they would take off some fees but I still owe cleaning. A tad dishonest if you ask me because I paid what was advice and time service was rendered. read more

Horrible! Just awful! I went in about a year ago w/ Dr. Jenkins, he did such a poor job I have tissue damage on my gum now. He left cement in one of my crowns that ended up causing bad breath. When I complained he just shrugged it off and didn't really seem concerned. After several visits w/ me complaining about my work and the horrible job that was done he just sort of gave up and recommended a new dentist. He left awful scaring on my gum it was really hard to work over such damage and pain that lasted for several months after my visit's. read more

I had an emergency and came to Shalimar by accident. My crown came off, exposing sensitive roots underneath. But my regular dentist couldn't work me in for another week. I decided to try Shalimar and I was in dentist's chair within 2 hours. What astounds me about this practice is two things: Knowledge, precision care, and professionalism exhibited by everyone on the staff. The second thing that impresses me is the genuine kindness in this office. It's not artificial; it's real. When Dr. Jenkins saw me about my missing crown, he knew just what to do, as did Dr. Cordner when I saw him later. I've also seen Dr. Forney for two consults. He's a very "forensic" dentist -- always trying to understand the underlying causes for the various effects he's seeing. Whether it's my original hygienist Karen who scoped out my teeth, jaw, gums, and everything else in a 10cm radius, or Lacee who has cleaned my teeth with the precision of a brain surgeon the last two times (can you believe it, she LOVES cleaning teeth!), or Lillie the business manager who got me a script for mouth sores after hours, or Cassie and Karen at the front desk who smile so preciously, even it's 5 pm, and make you comfortable as they quietly do battle with dozens of insurance companies on our behalf -- the staff is just great and I cannot say enough good about them. Shalimar's pricing is fair, too, which is important to my wife and I as retired schoolteachers. I've been meaning to write this review for some time, and I apologize to readers for it being long. But I wanted to put in sufficient detail so that potential new clients would know what this practice is really like. My 8 year old son and I have been going here for a couple years and I really like this place. They are exactly what I want in a Dr/Dentist office: Friendly, fair and professional. The dentists make my son very comfortable and the front staff (esp. Cassie) have been overly courteous in spite of my having to reschedule several times. IN MY HUMBLE EXPERIENCE , this office began as courteous, even overly friendly which i loved. Helpful was what i would call the atmosphere...however soon as i got past regular fillings, and got my second crown that changed. i told Dr nelson..Dr jenkins..etc. .that the crown did not feel right. They assured me nothing was wrong despite having sounds coming from it...feeling movement....and it feeling bigger than the other side. (first day). After being persistent Dr Jenkins agreed to fix it verbally. I was told to wait and they would contact me for when to get it redone. I called after about a week to discover i recieved a letter citing me going on vacation and stated that replacing a crown would be bad for my health, i would not have enough time. I disputed them reasons and even offered to cancel my vacation. Crowns like people are not perfect and i was the sufferee, not them! I simply wanted it replaced, as promised. ..They took pictures from the back, not in between the crown (the inner part) where the damage was. It is now about 70 percent worse, and i am out 1500 dollars. The integrity of the crown is compromised, it has made my life difficult for the past 6 months easily. They offered no resolution..They said get a second opinion, which i asked will i be able to get some money back or something if they find it is defective, the dentist did not answer me straight on anything. I felt so uncomfortable and really just robbed. I did not have money for a second opinon at the time, especially not knowing if they will believe it or resolve anything. It is bad enough i have to have a crown replaced within 6 months, but they used my insurance slot also naturally ...so i am set back 1500 dollars when i replaced it soon. This dentistry might be good generally ..but when push comes to shove, they specialize in broken promises and not taking responsibility for what goods they provided. Imagine if you have a procedure done and you are telling them it doesn't feel right over and over...but they tell you it is. Even though xrays cannot show everything that is happenng with a tooth, They said maybe i need a root canal when the pain was coming from the tooth not fully having pressure on all regions, because of the integrity being compromised. This is something that bacteria can get inside eventually, and can affect health They even asked me to leave for talking about it in public, when the staff asked me how the visit went. my insurance claims dept finds this a very serious issue, I would honestly stay away unless your getting a filling or something small. There are plenty of good dentists around, that will not make you feeluncomfortable because you ask questions and have a concern for your mouth, you have a right to know every and anything as long as your not being ridiculous. Dont be brushed off, and brush these irresponsible people off in our lives. Also watch out for kim the office manager too, one of the rudest people you will ever meet ! She is not friendly at all..even makes staff feel uncomfortable , from observation. 7 months of suffering later, i have a claim filed and no new crown...just looking out for people. People can be trusting but when pressures on, and stakes is high,..some people fold. You do not want this situation, especially involving YOUR MOUTH. Thank you! read more
